nuzo:Let me start by saying in the far eastern folklore, it is believe that by cutting the head of a dragon, one stops it breathe of fire. The people who have shaped the history of Nigeria in a negative ways are the dragons, their effects is more or less the dragon's breathe of fire. You do the maths. Do I want the likes of OBJ, IBB and other people who falls into that rank punished, or even killed brutally? Yes I do and am sure a few people who have one way or the other suffer as a result of their handiwork will want them dead too. ![]() You see, their is a vicious cycle of corruption, embezzlement, incompetency et al engrained into our psyche. It is so bad that is has more or less become the norm. In order to stop this vicious cycle from consuming us forever, we really do need to make a serious change. We have tried military coup, democracy, strikes, boycott, demonstration, You name it we have tired, and yet we are failing. The only thing left to consider now are Breaking up and civil war. |
Is it me alone, or don't people get tired of all these "proposals"? ![]() |
I could have swear on my life I read that info I posted with regards to selling the engine rights from way back. My car uses the GDI engine and I know what it stands for thank you. I see you quoted wiki at me, hmmm. In absence of me finding what I read from the past, yeah I have to admit, I may have recollected inaccurately from memory about the rights been sold. ![]() |
If only the Biafran war was successful! But it was cut short by the then FG strategy. I really do believe we are at a tipping point, heck we passed the point already. A war will probably be the over all solution. If people like IBB, OBJ and others are killed brutally, it will serve as a point in history for us all to remember. I believe this will change the ways and thinking of the people after the war. [Again not expecting my idea to be popular with some.] |
nuzo:I was trying to say perhaps the way forward will either be for us to split up, that way we are more manageable regionally. Or at last resort, we disintegrate into some kind of civil war [ I do not expect this idea to be popular by the way]. If we do end up in a civil war, new idea will inevitably be born, and newer, better and effective ways of doing things will be the norm. After all, as humans, we don't know what we've got until it is gone. ![]() |
Nuzo, you just validated my point in some ways. ![]() |
^^ Perhaps the revitalisation will only happen after we have crumbled? Just a thought. The current leaders won't go away, even if they eventually do, their replacement will be people from their same school of thought. A non-stopping vicious cycle. May be allowing the nation to crumble will really be the way forward? |
micha3l:Any time, any day! I will. Please tell me what BMW X5 or Mercedes ML can do on a Nigeria roads that a Kia 4x4 cannot cut? You see, manufacturers like BMW and Mercedes are nothing but "premium brands" - a marketing gimmick for those who like to think they are "rich and superior".of course there are original designs - by the top car makers eg lambougini, mercedes who integrate present and future technologies (eg latest trends in aeronautics) into their carsNope there isnt. All designs are copied from an existing concepts. Such concepts are even copies of existing ideas, or modified ones. The people who really do come out with non-existing designs are those who design concept from scratch for the military - that is where the money is at for such things. All car manufacturers copy each other. Pegeout and Citroen are sisters companies and their products use similar platforms. For example, Citreon C1 and Pegeout 106 are made in the same factory in Cezh republic. Not only that, the wheel base is the same and several components are identical. Mazda share platforms with Fords prodicts etc. Even the new Audi's sub-super car share components of Lamboghini! So you see, it is normal to copy and share platforms, so therefore, there isn't much originality. that is not to say i hate kias - i kind of like the 2009 optima - its putting plenty of sweat on the hyundai sonata ( its also my pick for someone venturing into the brand new car market for the first time)As already pointed out, Kia and Hyundai are sisters company. So it is not a big deal to share blue prints or same technology. Speaking of which, did you know that the GDI engine design by Mitsubishi from 10years or so ago, is the same engine that was licensed to VW and present in the latest Golf "FSI engine" now? There has to be a good reason why the cheapest mercedes is prob almost the same price with the most expensive kiaIt is all perception. A 10pounds digital wristwatch tells the time accurately as a 20 000pounds Raymond weil diamond encrusted wrist watch. I know which one I will pick! And it is the one which will leave me with a 19990 pounds bank balance!! |
SapeleGuy:No this debate is about a guy who won an award. Not to pour cold water on his "achievements", but there is nothing new or ground breaking about what he did. As a lot of people correctly pointed out - he invented nothing. First you claim they weren't scientist, but after I pointed out how I never claimed the research was from scientist and you do not have to be one to conduct one either, now you have changed your tune to "should we accept it 'cuz it is British" Jesus flipping wept!, No, accept it because it pointed at the obvious. Cowdung for your information is one of the richest sources and most likely economical viable source for methane. Ever heard how Cow flatulence contributes to the Green house gas effect? Here get some knowledge. http://www.purpleslinky.com/Offbeat/Cow-Farts-and-Global-Warming.117060 http://sxxz..com/2008/01/do-cow-farts-cause-global-warming.html It seems you are willing to lend credence to a non scientific / unvalidated experiment conducted by BBC backroom staff for a motor show program but denigrate a piece of scientific research that has been subjected to peer review at national and continental level but conducted by a Nigerian academic.Haa funny how you are quick to dismiss them as "backroom staff" ironically enough, both of them - Hamster and captain slow - most likely have more achievements than you have mustered in your existence so far. I'm sorry, but like I said before the research done by the Nigerian student is not ground breaking. It is more or less an adaptation [I am trying not to use the word "Copy" here] of existing works. Just because his so called "achievements" are been recognised by an award means nothing. Peer review at national level? Hahaha I would love to see the evidence and know the credentials and experience of those who made the peerage. I asked you before and you never answered. If using human waste is so viable for the long term, how come it is hasn't made development in leaps and bounds? Here is a clue, the answer lies in the very video you are dismissing! To dismiss the obvious because it isn't conducted by men in white coat, is very short-sighted . |
Oga, nothing is an issue if abundant money dey! I know cameras are expensive, if I remember correctly, the red eye camera body cost something around 10k alone, and that ain't even counting the add ons needed for it. Yeah naija movies sucks in my opinion, the directors and the who's who of nollywood really have no visions at all. I wonder sometimes, if they are just in it for the fact that it makes them money. I remember one famous producer boasting he produces about 4films per week on average or something like that. It is quite laughable really lol. The audio mix down grinds my gear too! The art of recording in stereo and doing you final mixdown so all levels are not outside range is still lacking in all the movies I have seen. The only movie I watch that appeared ot have a true stereo recording and a better audio mixdown was "Ti oluwa ni ile" and that was almost 8years ago or so. I am keen on those area like I said before, I just need a few things in place and am good to go. |
I never at any point claim the research was from a scientist. Also being a petrol head do not mean they cannot conduct an experiment. And to dimiss the outcome of such experiment is a bit short sighted. The cost and results are there for all to see. If the use of waste is viable for the long term, then we would have seen it happening every where. |
May I aslo add that religion violences in nigeria is more or less down to lack of enlightment/understanding and a cover for hatred funded by ethnic tension and tribalism. It is not strange to hear that hausa moslems kill a yoruba or igbo muslim simply because they are not considered "one of theirs" What we need is proper re-educationing and reprogramming of various individual on various levels. For example, if you ever go to place like Kaduna, kabo, and similar places in countries like Pakistani etc, it is not uncommon to see an iman lecturing over 900+ of people about the quran. The problem here is that most of these 900people or student have no formal education at all, and they all end up taking the sermon of just one man. The thing is this sermon is an understanding and view of ONE man, and as such it creates loads of room for misinterpretation and no challenge. These students only go home taking his word as the ultimate truth etc. Imagine if the iman says all christains are legitamate target during an uprising, all these student go away believing just that, How do you fight such mindset? Please go back to my idea of reprogamming and mass education! |
Do you believe in freedom? If so, perhaps your ideas/proposals are a bit catch 22? You do not cut you nose to spite your own face. I think you will find that people have the right to practices whatever religion they want. If they govt takes away such right, it would be hard to say that kind of govt. is truly the people's choice. It goes against the fundamentals of democracy, unless off course we are running a total authoritarian type of system. Where does it stop if such things where allowed? Do we stop albinos from pro-creating? Do we move hausa people up north and confined them there? I am sure you can see the chaos your ideas may bring. On the other hand, the govt may perhaps intervene on religion if only absolutely necessary. I very much doubt a govt. intervention is needed in Nigeria right now. For the record, I am an atheist. |
Nwazo:Hey sorry about that. I just noticed my post make no sense whatsoever. What I was saying is that after watching a few minutes of it - about 10mins or so - I think the angles you used in some of the shot are pretty much interesting. Also, the editing and how some of the shots pans and fades off looks good. However, the film in my opinion can do with a bit of more suspense. It will probably be ideal for those who love cheesy lengthy talk movies like our Nollywood fans, but it may be hard to sell to a western audience who wants a fast paced drama lol. Overall, it is a nice job. I had to go an look up that camera, however that is some expensive gear right there - about 5k pounds. Omo, I no get that kind of money to put for that kind toy jare. I am keen on producing a movie too, and can let my imagination run wild with a movie script - used to write plays for churches back in Naija. But haven't dabble my hands on proper movie script yet. If you are in the UK, who know we can brainstorm together. Also, what software did you use? I have a couple of MiniDvs here and just tend to use movie maker. I also have adobe premiere, however I really do not know how to use it. ![]() |
SapeleGuy:Yeah I see where you are coming from! The experiment was done to get methane from cow dung and human waste. While this is possible and the kit readily available - cost about 12,000pounds - The cow waste was found to be richer in methane gas than that of Human, and it was subsequently used in powering a car that have undergone minor changes. The problem however is the actual cost. You will needed at least several kilos of cow dung to get a decent amount of this gas out of. You then need to factor the following. The cost of running a single cow - which comes to around 500pounds a year - then you need at least several of them to make it viable economically. Then there is the cost of feeding to worry about, there is the man power needed etc. To keep this going off course, will require feeding the herd of cows so as to get the needed dungs needed. Oh lets not for get the cost of running the machine that does the conversion, electricity etc. The point is, it is not exactly economical viable as one will rely on a lot feeds for the cow and a whole lot of overhead cost. The research was done on "Top Gear". I cannot remember the episode, but it is readily available on "Dave channel" if you are in the UK. You are right, it wasn't diesel. More or less "BioGas". ![]() Here is a video of the whole thing, http://www.livevideo.com/video/dudewheresmycar/35C19DA711984DAF8E0B77A674F5E540/top-gear-methane-powered-car.aspx |
udezue:Precisely! From what I can gather, he [original posters] is one of those people on where, who appears to be bitter at their own existence and then take it out on people who are not in the country. He also appears to be a dude account of one of the "forum idiots and clown". Personally, I am not a man who strive for political office, I am happy with what I do in life, and if I come back home, my field will be my port of call if needed. ![]() |
Cruise control. Siena explained most of the reasons already. ![]() |
Fuel injection all the way. Using carburettor is like a 12inch black and white tv with no remote control. Where as Fuel injection is the 52 inch[b] OLED plasma[/b] Full HD with a sexy remote control. ![]() |
Seun:Seun it is NOT okay. A test was conducted here and it is still the same problem - will lead to scarcity of food. |
banom:Mobile phone boom. Democracy [Still in its infancy] Boom in certain industries - Nollywood, et al Nigeria as a state that is more prominent and influential in African affairs. Housing and socio economic rapid developments. Those covers the various classes I can recall from the top of my head right now. I am sure those who know better will come in and add some shortly. Or, those who disagree will have a different view. ![]() |
banom:It is hard to tell. However, if our 40years plus of indpendence is used as a yard stick, then all hope may seem lost. On the other hand, some will argue the development in the last Ten years is an indication that we will "make it". |
Hold on one sec, Are these big time pastors actually worshiping God, modelling their way on Jesus or they are doing their own thing? Jesus wasn't reported to own a horse - which would have been the equivalent of a horse during his time. Yet, here is one Pastor having a Jet. Jesus never wore "fine robes" which would have been equivalent of the "Designers" these Pastors wear every Sunday. Jesus loathed the commercialism of church, yet on comparison Adeboye's church and others seem to be running churches like a "Business center". There is just so much one I can say, but I wonder if the fans of Adeboye and similar Pastors will make an appropriate response to all of these comparison that just do not march up? ![]() |
I like the angles some of the used and how certain aspect sort pans, fade off. It appears nicely edited. Keep it up. [Cant say much as I only watched a few mins of it, sorry am going out] By the way, what Camera do you use? ![]() |
We are experiencing the prelude to the birth of a nation. The happening in Nigeria fits in with the characteristics of a developing nation. However, it should be noted that these preludes can either make or break the yet unborn nation. |

Can we do this some other time please. We can focus on doing some translation instead. Thanks. |
biina:No shaking. ![]() Nobody ever said that sex equates to pregnancy, but she needs the man's sperm (not necessarily the man himself), and hence his cooperation, to get pregnant. If the man uses an effective contraceptive, there is no way the woman would get pregnant. Both of them are complicit (by commission or omission) in the making of the babyBut your original post will suggest so, unless of course am wrong. Oga, just because it takes do two to make a baby [pregnancy], do not mean she needs to seek the consent of the other party. In most part of the world, a woman is allowed the final say about keeping a pregnancy or not, Not the man or spam donor. Oga as for effective contraception, you do not want to dwell in to this area jare. None of the methods are marketed as 100% effective/safe. Women have been recorded to get pregnant just from using all forms of contraception. From your under-arm injection, female condom, spermicide, injection down to contraceptive pills. Even IUD have resulted in pregnancy. You see nothing is 100%.[b]The society sees both parents as being responsible for the born child, and thus the mother should not be able to jeopardize the interests of the father at simply her discretion. [/b]You cannot require his cooperation for the conception, suspend his rights for the duration of the pregnancy, and then reinstate his responsibility after birth - that is inequitable. If she has a right to withdraw her support for the pregnancy, then same should be extended to the father.Again you have moved the debate. Allow me to point it out to you. This is a debate about "Abortion and whether it should be legalised". Now, an unborn foetus is NOT a child. Hence, your point above have nothing to do with the debate. What you are showing a classical signs of how a lot of people get things wrong by using the wrong term. Oga please tell me you do not work as a UN translation lol. Getting the translation wrong in certain situation can lead to world war three you see. If you re-explain your points above, then I will make my reply. ![]() She is free to exercise are sole right to take precautions against getting pregnant, but the moment she is pregnant and carries the child of another, she can no longer claim autonomy on the matter. It is her body, she can do what she wants. The final "say" lies with her an no one else. Please go back to my post where I illustrated a story of how a woman was raped, what will you have this woman do? |
Erm how do you want your answers? Culturally or scientifically? Oh sod it! I will give you both!! Our people believe that precognition - warnings signs of things to come etc - are somehow ingrained in mostly everyone. Hence why an itching palm is believed to be something to do with "financial gain of some kind in the horizon" On the flip side, your friend's palm is probably reacting to the need to itch, which may have been caused by handling of an skin irritant - soap etc, or your friends needs to wash her hand lol. ![]() |
biina:If you take your time to read the thread, I already addressed this in the opening statement. Finally, why do you keep "thinking this is what I am trying to say as oppose to this is what am saying"! You have done this across two threads now. Where have I banned people from translating? ![]() biina:Like I said, my brain is dead at the point of writing that days of the week out. I am willing to accept your translation. This is part of what this thread is about, however I will wait for a few more confirmations. ![]() |
biina:Here we are again with common misconception. A woman agreeing to sex, do not mean she wants to get pregnant, talk less of having a child. A woman do not need the to have a permission of another human to do what she wants to her body. Or do you come from the school of thought that sees the need for a woman to "seek permission or consent" before doing certain things? What in my post suggest in anyway virgin conception, or asexual reproduction? Please let us stick to the debate at hand shall we? Thanks. ![]() |
sunnykiss:You clearly ain't fair in your comparison. That is like comparing Christina Ronaldo with some striker from Gombe united. How is that a fair comparison? ![]() |
