Is it me alone who see many things wrong with this headline? 

Good news? To who exactly? The Common man or the Officials that will become rich in the process? How many programs like this have been done in the past with little or no result to show for it? I am very sceptical about this.

Whoever had the idea clearly haven't left the shores of Nigeria. A government official like Jack Straw is manned 24/7 either by body guards, GPS tracking and constant monitoring in one way or the other as he is a potential terrorist target. Hence there will be NO way he will be stuck in one part of the world and needing money.

I suppose the writer of the email was viewing it from a Nigeria's mentality where we can ask people to "borrow" us money in time of need. Things are done differently here. Government officials can not run out of money while abroad - especially high profile one. The author of the email should have done a bit of research.

As for your "charity work" like prison rehabilitation, Oh boo hoo cry me a river. Proper religion outlets do run a charity works - Red cross will be one big example as it is supported by both Islam and Christians.

There was once a program here in the UK tha exposes their dark side as they was investigated by a reporter. In the end, they employed a fair game tactics - i.e trying to dish the dirt on reporter and exposing his past. Funny enough, no one was interested in the journalist past but people where extremely interested in the controversies surrounding Scientology.

It smacks of irony if you condemn one religion when it appears you have little knowledge of yours. I will take what you say with a pinch of salt. Your religion is a "celebrity religion" and it was founded by a former Science fiction writer. I dare you to explain your religion to anyone here. Who gives a damn if you are a majority, minority or even non existence. Seriously, who gives a PHUCK if you are ebira? If you read the other thread that is discussing this topic as well, I have already explained what I feel the British press do here. In a nut shell, they do NOT have obsession like the Nigerian press. Gordon Brown do have one eye and this have not been a topic for the press to dabble in week-in week-out. On the flip side, the comedians however do mock the people in the government as it is a long standing tradition here.

The thing how ever is that given the economic situations, people will lose their jobs. It is what happens in a recession and it is not discriminatory whether you are British, Nigerian or from the moon.

People People, pleaser relax. The trucking business is a front to cover his other illegal avenues. There are plenty of them over here who run such fake companies - well the companies are registered and real - but their main source of income is from their scam.

As for the guy that said how come people still get scammed despite the high publicity surrounding 419. Well I use this logic to answer your question. How come every one do not have internet access in nigeria despite it becoming a "must need"? The fact is there are old people or people who do not know what 419 and are not up to date like you and me on this particular issue. Further more, the scams are getting more sophisticated ever than before.

he was showing signs of being sick on the campaign trail and even missed some dates on his campaign.  It doesn't matter whether he got sick before or after getting voted in but people have a right to inquire about the health of a public official.  privates Cheney has had heart surgeries while being VP but that didn't stop the press from following his health.  Ted kennedy is another example.  Why is he running from the camera.

You guys keep missing the point. You do not have the right to know his health whether he is serving the public or not. He's got the right to privacy which people like you and the media are not allowing him. How hard is that to understand?

Here let me give you another example to highlight this for you. Two people in a room. One smokes and the other do not. If the smoker decides to smoke, and the other persons object to it. Who do you think have more right? The smoker who have the right to smokes what he wants and the non smoker who have the right to breathe clean and unpolluted air? Deal with that and you may see why you and those nosing around have no right to his health affairs or record.

He is running away from the camera so to speak, as individual like you have turned it into an obsession. For how long is the discussion for his health going on for in the Nigerian press now? Too long if you ask me.

Do you have any proof he wasn't physically fit when he contested for office? Or do you have proof that he is now unfit? Until you have read his doctor's report on his state of health I don't think you are in a position to make comments on his health. It is things like this that baffles me about us. It appear many of my people will believe anything as long as it is in the press.

And u seem to be a bad student of history though, otherwise you should know that Boris Yeltsin was drunk when he declared a military invasion on Chechnya and that led to his eventual downfall.

As for Boris, it all depends on where you stand. All the cases of his alcoholism are "alleged". Also there other reports that claims he suffers from a neurological disorder that affects his sense of balance. This we cannot prove or disprove and as such, I will restrain from saying he was drunk when he declared war on chechnya [A war that lasted two years]

His performance as a president haven't stalled in my opinion. He is a leader and as such should be allowed to get on with his job.

No I don't see how I am contradicting myself. You are however trying to use the justification of "service and accountability to the people" to pry into his private life. That is just wrong and amounts to voyeurism on the part of the Nigerian press and who ever see the urge to know about his private life - especially his health.

and he does not restrain the press from detailing everything concerning his private life because he understands and appreciate the essence of accountability.

I must say the example of using your payslip is probably a wrong example. However, let us not lose the fact that he is running the country well [by Nigeria's standard off course] and as such the disclosure of his state of health should not be up for debate. As accountability goes, his health state in my view is off limits to the Nigerian press.

His banning of photos is within reasons. If his health are becoming a national obsession then it is understandable that he bans the media. It aint like his photos are fetching dollars or been hung in galleries. There are abundance if the Nigerian press really want one. What they are doing is to paint in in ill-health as much as possible. So he is with reasons that he bans them.

As for Gordon brown. I need you to let us compare likes for likes you see and not just take what suits us to back up our points. I need you to remember that UK is different in the sense that they have a long running culture of making Comedy satirical of those in power. However, they do not have a strange obsession with prying into the lives of those running the country, which is what we are doing in Nigeria.

Remember Jeremy Clarkson had to apologise after calling him "a one eyed idiot" the other day. It is because people here frown at such things.

Did you just say the M16 is more reliable than the AK47? I disagree! The AK is by far more durable and reliable than M16s, as the US army found out to their chagrin in Vietnam. AKs buried underground for years have been found to work nicely after exhumation.

I think you will find that m16 have had massive improvements and tweaking over the years. The M16 used in the Vietnam war is not the same available at the moment as there have been various variants [improved version]. On comparison, the AK have stayed the same due to it simple design and what not.

No doubt people have health challenges but you can't compare a simple head ache to more complex liver and kidney related issues ( or whatever yar adua is suffering from).  If we refer to back to history as you mentioned we find most sensible leaders with a health issues that we all know is  causing a big hinderance to their sense of judgment would not and never be contention for a leadership post or simply resign .  That is what i call leadership.

The rules using religion are far more effective and cost efficient than rules set by authority as it enforces self-regulation rather than state-regulation. A combination of both works well.

There is massive division in which this forum is run. It is the same in Nigeria. Just take a look at the religion/culture/tradition section.

A forum run by a Nigerian for Nigerians, I think it is inevitable that we will bring our true colour and allow it to transcend.

Restriction in freedom of speech. Can you say what exactly you want in Nigeria? The locking up of journalist, heavy regulation of the press and undue influence of people's view are just a normal thing in Nigeria. Over here on the online world, there appears to be similarities. I made a thread asking people's view on the fact that Prophet Muhammed had sex with an 8 year old. That thread magically disappears.

Ignorance. Our people are very ignorance of many things - I'm not in anyway insulting anyone - and coming online here, there isn't much difference. There are lack of well informed individuals and a lot of people who will believe anything without asking if there is even an ounce of truth in it.
Then you have the backward and outdated mentality. This is a common occurrence in real life with my people and this I have observed on this place too.

Obsession with titles and accolades. Every fuji musician is either an Alhaji, Dr of Music, or some other outrageous title. Even the so call man of God now swim in this territory too. Now let us take a look around here. People just seem obsessed with becoming somehting simply because of the name it carries, even though they know little or nothing about what it entails.


These are just a few of my observation. And to answer the Original poster, Yes this place is not in many way different from the real Nigeria.

It is a waste of time with this petitions if they have no conclusive proof what so ever. Nigerian press needs to learn the basis of journalism before they keep reporting things in this manner. So far the name of people involved have been dragged through mud, even though there isn't a proof.

You have to look at the bigger picture. We have different phases in the development of a nation. The first 20 years of independent should have been a time we invested a lot in Nigeria and have the structures running. By the third decade of independence [i.e 30th years] we should have start to see the economic benefit trickle through to the people. This appears to be a model used by nations that had independence as the same time as us - Malaysia and Ghana. Both are doing better than us and their in MANY WAYS.

Now going back to the point I'm trying to make. Nigeria have missed her chances and land marks to where this implementations should have taken place as a result, we are now in a phase where it is more a less like "survivor of the fittest" and every man is to himself and no one. Hence why there are sharp rise in violent crime -just look at the delta region.

Even if all these monies are "invested" it will not make any difference now because we have passed that "point of no return". It will require more and more spending which the result will most likely not be visible in the short run, and probably not in the long run.

It is a good thing they are using AK47. It still shows they are backward. AK47 is used mainly for it simplicity and durability in tough conditions. However, the recoil rate sucks and reliability can be questionable at times. It is a favoured weapon in the shoddy under world, but there are better weapons - M16 and a few others. Let's just hope these criminals do not go beyond using rudimentary RPG, "technicals" and AKs

A major manufacturer have moved production to Brazil full time and if I remember correctly, one can by an APVs [Amour protected vehicles] from 20k depending on level of protection.
