You did not reply to a perfectly valid question so you resort to insults.
Equally, you have been making illogical and "what if" assumptions in order to back up you lame and almost pointless views.

Litmus:
Sorry, but what advantage is there to be gained by taking the picture straight away as opposed to taking it the next day ?

In other words, why is it any less exploitative to take the picture the next day?
You have shown that you lack any type of logic and too stuuuupid to try and absorb anything meaningful.

If that is your sister or daughter there, will you be happy for them to be paraded in public?

Do you have a brain? If you do, please use it before you attempt to answer my question (plus the other one I asked before)

"Perhaps perhaps. . . " stop giving the shameful situation of this picture an excuse.

If one of your child was in that picture, would you have let them be a victim again? [A victim of pawn in an election game]. It's obvious that none of those vultures care about the children state of mind. They had the time to wear nice clothes, had the time to find those ugly banners. . .  but not enough time to wash and clean those children? Haba!
Perhaps you should stop using common sense? lmao. shocked

I don't see this in the context of exploitation, that view is excessively cynical, if you feel it is in bad taste, that's another argument. At best, media and PR in Nigeria is underdeveloped.
Off course, you won't see anything wrong with it. Even let's assume it is a custom (Dont really think it is), it must be a wrong custom then to parade traumatised kids in front of camera after their ordeal. No?

Please look at the picture you posted and see the difference, the victim here is seen to be happy. Please point one kid in the photo to me that looks happy!

So what benefit do you think the women were trying to gain from the photo?

If the incident was sufficiently troubling to the nation then it may be why they felt they needed a photo call so the nation can view the released  children.
Since you have been missing the point, do you mind telling me what they may be trying to gain?

Let me help you here - Seen as the "first lady" (I believe one of them is the wife of a Governor) doing something humanitarian? Trying to gain more political votes or wanting to be perceived as doing something good? Those are just a few possible motivation I can think of.

You really have warped mindset I'm afraid.  The Kids and the Parents comes first. The state have little or no right over their photos (well, at least in places where there is proper law and order)

What happened to actually making an announcement on Tv/Radio instead of seeing the need to parade them infront of the camera while some woman (who probably have little or no career) steal the lime light?

I'd love it too to have safe and sound children back
Good for you. But in places where things work the way they are meant to be, the kids will be whisked to a private and secure location, they will then see a psychologist and their parents informed. Then they will ask who want the photo of their kids taken etc.

But I guess in your world, it makes more sense to subject them to more drama by doing a "quick" photoshoot as that is more important than anything else. Well done.

Next point. undecided

So if the women had jumped into the frame the minute the children were released, and photographers  captured the image you wouldn't be arguing  that the women are opportunist who couldn't even wait for the children to be taken into a building before trying to get photo opportunity
You are talking about IF.

Do you have a point to make? undecided

Let's go by you IF point of view. Assuming that was the case, then clearly it is even more shameful than previously thought! So photoshoot was more important than actually getting the kids to safety? They may be hungry, psychological damaged or scarred, need medical attention as they may have been severely dehydrated or at least in negative fluid balance. . . and you feel that was the right time to stop them and arrange them in a line while the women and the pot-belly guy but those silly things across their shoulder and for the camera man to compose the shot? shocked

Come on now, be logical.

Next IF-point please. undecided

let's see, is the poster arguing that the women in the picture cant get publicity any other way than to pose with recently released children?
huh Say what?

Come on now, stay with me here. This is me breaking it down further. It is an embarrassment to see them wearing outfits and what not while the kids are more or less disinterested in taking photos. D

The adult posed for the photo and in I would go as far as to say they called the press in for the photo-shot. In other words, that little photo in the OP was staged while the one you posted wasn't.

Need further explanation? huh
PoliticsRe: A Truly Shameful Nation by ElRazur: 6:31pm On Oct 02, 2010
Litmus:
Whats bad about the original one ?
It was staged! You know, the women posed for the photo and they seem to be loving it, while the victims appeared unkempt, unwashed and just want to be home. Also, it is mentioned already about their state of mind. No one in the photo is comforting them etc. Get it?

In the one you posted, yes the women (I am assuming they are victims of some mishap) are clearly distress, but Bush is not posing with a matching handbag or man-bag and grinning for the camera.

Do you need me to still break it down further?

If I can just say from what I can see, the original shot was a photo -shoot, while this one is nothing but a shot taken due to presence of the press or something. In this example of photo you posted, it is not in anyway bad like the original one.
Foreign AffairsRe: The Big Man Syndrome In Africa by ElRazur: 6:06pm On Oct 02, 2010
It is a problem that I feel it is engraved in us. Only time will tell if we ever see beyond this type of "syndrome".

naijacutee:
True to the power 1 million. It's not just our leaders - the problem is with all of us. Everybody wants to work in oil companies and in banks. Nobody wants to work on the farm - we see it as "backwardness". The truth is that if any of us with these "bigman on smaller levels" is selected to be president, I can guarantee you that we will do the same or even worse than the people there now.
True.

I once told my people back home that I spend Bleep amount on Bicycle to ride, and they thing it is a bad thing because I drive. So switching to bicycle is considered going back. The fact of the matter is that I cannot drive into the city everyday for work, and there is no parking space. Also all the charges one have to pay here and there. It makes sense therefore to ride a bicycle, but my people do not see this.

Gosh half of the stuff posted here are just as good as reading Harry Porter and the willow of stone or something. It is even more fantasy than reading the books of revelation.

Sauron, do you seriously believe some of the story you were told?  undecided  Or do anyone really think some of the stories here are just pure third rated stories?

I was in Naija during the Anini era, and I remember vividly that his shooting sentence was shown on tv, and newspaper ran it as headlines story the next day. As per Shina Rambo, we heard many stories of him and he appears to just fade off after a while.

One thing that have come up here is the lack of record/archive and how it implication can manifest later on. A few post here appears to present their stories as facts etc, when in fact, it is all third and probably fourth-rate information that was passed down. I suppose if there was a news paper archive somewhere and proper journalism is practised, we may know the real truth. (In some western countries, you can find newspapers printed from the 18 century in archive page-by-page in libraries etc)

Do I think Anini disappeared? Nope. Not really, he made an escape instead and the poorly trained police see it as logical to blame voodoo - Something that is enshrined in our culture. That is, do not take blame but find something else to blame.

Having said that, from my recollection, some of the weapons used back then by the criminals (Shina Rambo especially) appeared to be sort of advanced weaponry back then. They had access to Semi Automatic weapons and this strike fear in people who may have witnessed them being used during a robbery operation.

Let us ask ourselves, how come in this day and age that the new bunch of super robbers coming out do not disappear or vanish into thin air like the ones of the 80s and 90s? Coincidence?

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Chelsea Vs Arsenal [2 - 0] On Sunday 3rd October 2010 by ElRazur: 2:38pm On Oct 02, 2010
I tend to avoid thread like this, heck, I avoid the whole Sport section all together, due to most giving opinions like facts.

Here is my two cents worth - Arsenal have been the weaker side according to the stats, and as some would tell you, stats do not lie. It should however be noted that this is football, and in a game of football.     .    .  Well, anything can happen.

Last season Arsenal defence had a few holes in them and what not, but with the recent signings, I think it is fair to say Arsenal have a better defence in my opinion and may have a chance at actually getting one up over Chelsea this time around. The newly signed defenders have showed that they do a good job better than what we had last season and one of them (Squillaci I believe) is rated as a world class defender.

In my opinion, I feel Man City have shown the way on how to counter the threat Chelsea have. This is to stop the Brute force they rely so much on - I am talking about Drogba here - and they just become very much ordinary to handle. Having said that, they can still be dangerous with players like Anelka and Malouda in very good form and almost on fire at this point in time.

Arsenal can afford to attack and any of the players can score, but the problem lies in defence. It will be interesting to see how the back four stand up to what ever it is that Chelsea may throw at them.

Arsene have stated that it will be an attacking style of football and the plan is to retain possession. I think this may well work, but this is football we are talking about, and as with anything football, well, anything can happen! For example, Leeds united were leading by Four goals before half time, and by the time the match ended, they lost 6-4 (or something along those lines)

For the match tomorrow, I look forward to good play and a mind-blowing afternoon.

Predictions
If Arsenal can Shackle Drogba (try man-marking as oppose to Zone marking) then there is a good chance of winning. Anything outside of this and it may tip in the direction of Chelsea in my opinion.

PoliticsThe Unofficial Black History Month Thread (Incorporating Facts) by ElRazur(op): 8:15am On Oct 02, 2010
This is a thread to go along side the Black history month that is usually marked in UK, US and a few other places. The whole idea is to educate and celebrate people and achievements of black people.

This thread is not here to pay tribute to any political party, tribe, or paddy paddy. It is instead about real achievement made by real people who have contributed to the black society and are of black origins.

Here may just be a few examples:

Otis Boykin (1920 -1982) invented electronic control devices for guided missiles, IBM computers, and the control unit for a pacemaker
James West's (1931 - ) research in sound technology led to the development of foil-electret transducers used in 90% of all microphones built today and in most new telephones being manufactured. West holds 47 U.S. and more than 200 foreign patents on microphones and techniques for making polymer foil-electrets. He was inducted into the National Inventor's Hall of Fame in 1999.
Frederick Jones (1892 - 1961) held over 60 patents with most of them pertaining to refrigeration. His portable air conditioner was used in World War II to preserve medicine and blood serum.
Andrew Jackson Beard (1849 - 1921) invented the "Jenny Coupler" which allowed train cars to hook themselves together when they are bumped into one another. The device is still used today.
John Love invented the pencil sharpener in 1897
The sweet thing is that all these people are black. cool

Taken from: http://www.biography.com/blackhistory/history/101-facts-inventions.jsp

So what can you tell us about how black people have changed the life of many in a positive way? (Again no babagidas and Micheal emagwelu or whatever please)

Beaf, you have no solid proof and at best, circumstantial "evidence". undecided

I don't want to be involved in one lengthy debate, so I will just answer your question and keep it simple as much as I can.
Beaf:
Now for the serious questions. Was this really MEND or was it, as Okah claims, rotten hands in the government?
A few things trouble the mind, such as;
[li]How were the miscreants able to smuggle bombs so close to a tightly secure area in which the President was speaking?[/li]
[li]Why was the area not evacuated even though warning was given?[/li]
[li]There have been threats of untold mayhem from politicians, was this a manifestation of such a threat?[/li]
One. Naija is not the best when it comes to security. Come on now, do not frame the question in such a way that suggest that Naija security are good at perimeter security etc. Is it not the same security forces that was unable to protect the president convoy when he got rammed by a taxi driver? Come on now, be reasonable.

Two. While we rumble and make plenty noise about how big we are and the giant of Africa, please note that fire-safety drills and things like emergency evacuation are strange concept to majority of naijans. Prior to the celebration, were there ever a practice run of possible emergency or were there expert who are good at crowd control and management (with emergency experience) called in? Probably no. So trying to lay the blame, given the fact that we are poor are these things is just a bit lame.

Three. In third world nations, it is one of the characteristics that violence tend to mar potential power struggles (Election, death of a leader, coup etc)

Anyway, you get my point and no, I have no problem with Igbo/MEND/whatever (This part is not directed at you, but those who may miss the point and get crazy)

Haha. I know that feeling, I was drooling over something similar I did when I first experienced that effect too. Basically, it is caused by delayed shutter and moving subject and this cause more light to go into the camera and can give interesting effect.

Google "bulb photography" for some cool images like yours. It can also be used in creating cool effects like "drawing with lights".

The annual nairaland backside kissing contest.  So a poster with four posts makes a list "as usual" to find out who the best is?  Needless to say the obvious people (who shall remain nameless) are out backing up their own people and people who are basically on their Yahoo and Facebook friend list.  Smh.

When will people realise that this "rap competition mentality" of who is better than who, or who is king of the forum is as pointless as a comb for a bald man.

I also noted that the usual "awarder" of award around here already chipped in and in the process highlighting why this whole award thing is boyhood mentality.  Smh.  You know who you are but keep on kissing those backside. Jesus wept. [b]

Me too. There was a paper I had to read for my portfolio. I think it is titled Medicalisation of Deviant behaviour (Peter Conrad). It is essentially how Big pharmaceutical companies make drugs and then trying to find market for it. They usually end up with making drugs as prescription for what is nothing but normal behaviour.

While I agree that kids may have certain conditions that parent may not know about, but in some of the cases here, I am yet to see one that could be classified as a medical condition like Hyperactivity disorder.
