What is the big deal? Black man works, black man gets paid.

Will it be an issue if he was holding the umbrella for another black man?

While you are here feeling sorry, he is happy he's got a job and able to feed his family. Gosh.

By the way, anyone know what those writings are?

You're obviously being obtuse. Your argument will make sense if there was also a call for the ban of the hijab(which covers the hair but not the face)
Actually, Balaclava covers the face like a Burka sometimes. Russian special forces wear this and refer to them as Balaclava, so yeah he's on point.

the netherlands is a democracy. if one part of a democracy is doing something, another part is against it, so this is why a dutch watch dog is warning nigeria.

this story happens all the time, europe uses africa as a toxic and nuclear dumping ground and we praise them for being humane and civilized.
huh huh

The Authorities as used in this context refers to those who are in charge of the country. I am sure they won't show a disunited front.

Surely, if the ship was laced with so called e.waste (Which are going to used tv and other junks I think) why didn't this "democracy of government" you speak of stopped it from leaving their own shores in the first place? You explanation is just not adding up.

I am aware few nations in the past have been used as dumping grounds. From the Koko waste saga of the 80s and the most recent one in a war-torn african nation and places like india etc.

This particular story is just not adding up is all am saying.
PoliticsRe: Fg Orders Security Alert Over Toxic Waste Shipment by ElRazur: 5:07pm On Jul 20, 2010
The story makes no sense.

So a ship known to be a Dutch ship is sailing in water for some time now, right? How is it being fuelled? Most importantly why are the Dutch not been held responsible for this? It is a bit odd that the Dutch will leave their own ship in the waters, and then warn others about its cargo content? huh

Instead of raising security at the port, how about tracking the damn ship before it gets to the ports ALL THE TIME? How about kicking out the Dutch ambassador or something to force a political move quickly?

I call it BS.

FoodRe: Smoked Foods Can Cause Tongue Cancer — Expert by ElRazur: 3:01pm On Jul 20, 2010
Theblessed:
Yes, that's absolutely correct! It can and not only tongue cancer but all sorts of cancers due to the Carbon content in the food.

Smoked foods are toxic and carcinogenic therefore, people should be careful especially, those with history (i.e. hereditary) of ca. in their family. This is because, carbon can easily reactivate or trigger dormant ca cells in their bodies thereby causing this horrible disease.

Hope people understand and, try to keep away from such foods especially when there's a history in your family. We know it's tough/difficult to do when most of our foods are smoked based e.g. smoked dry fish/crayfish, smoked bush meat, smoke yams/plantains, goat meat (burnt skin), cow legs, kpomo, suya etc but for your life, you have to try and keep away from them as there are other satisfying foods one could eat.
I think you need to slow down on your claims. Any food technically can be said to be toxic as your body have to rid of it waste via your kidney. So on that note all food can be labelled as Toxin. Yes, smoked food can be carcinogenic - have potentials to cause cancer - but there are other factors one have to take into consideration. Even a genetic predisposition do not necessarily mean that one will have a full blown cancer.

Carbon? Activate cancer cells? Lol You are one funny dude.  Cancers have several factors, and not all the time do just one of them triggers it. In fact, most cancer are a result of combined factors from environment, immune system, stress, down to toxins in the water we drink that get accumulated over the years. (Abi you go scare people not to drink water again?)

Also it may be worth that a few races are just "almost resistant" to things that cause cancer in others. So while our diet may be composed of smoked foods, we may not be susceptible to it due to generation of forefathers eating same diet. Just a thought.

On balance, you are right, these smoked foods are carcinogenic.
FoodRe: Smoked Foods Can Cause Tongue Cancer — Expert by ElRazur: 2:52pm On Jul 20, 2010
Don't know why this is even news, anyone with knowledge of Cancer Biology will tell you that most smoked-foods are potentially carcinogenic. Having said that, you will need to have a pre-disposition of cancer for it to happen. (And if your food is primarily composed smoked foods I guess)

I think the report may have been misreported, it should have been something along the lines of saying Smoked foods (any) are likely (but not necessarily) to cause cancer due to the chemicals formed in these food when they are smoked.

EDIT
Just realise not everybody is into Cancer Biology, so yeah it should be news I guess.

Even Syria is going to ban full face veil from universities.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-10684359

AllahuAkbar. God is great.

Female students wearing a full face veil will be barred from Syrian university campuses, the country's minister of higher education has said.

Ghiyath Barakat was reported to have said that the practice ran counter to the academic values and traditions of Syrian universities.

His ruling, published on the All4Syria website, was said to be in response to requests from students and parents.

The issue of full face veils has caused controversy in other countries.
So those who are claiming this is about Islam, I wonder if Syria is not Islamic enough for you. smiley

Just thought I should point this out.

This is a a Nun in their "Nun wear".

https://img838.imageshack.us/img838/2489/nun2.jpg

This from the most point of view of people in this part of the world is seen NORMAL. Anyone can approach them and speak to them, as their faces are readily seen.

On the other hand here is a Burka

https://img833.imageshack.us/img833/2224/burka64.jpg

I don't know about you guys, but I think it is fair to say most in this part of the world will see this as ABNORMAL. Also there is the human element of distrust that anyone covering their face breeds.

As to how anyone can call this "modesty" is beyond me. What a joke.

OMO IBO:
While I have no beef whatsoever with people wearing whatever they feel like, I feel Islam is slowly but surely gaining grounds in liberal communities and countries.

I got to understand a few weeks ago that the sharia Law has been adopted in parts of the UK. Ok, fair enough it only has powers to rule on Muslim civil cases. But honestly, it is beginning to look like one rule for some people and something else for others. Surely, this can't be right.

How these women get by in banks, schools and other high-security risk areas is beyond me.

A biker will be denied the chance to fill his tank if his helmet is on. He won't even get a look-in at the banks.

Again, i've got no beef with Burka's and/or whoever decided to wear them but there's got to be one rule for everyone or at least some sort of compromise.
I don't know if you remember a post that I made some months back? Where I mentioned that once Muslim goes into a society, they play by the rules, until they become significant in numbers and then seek to change everything their own way. You see, I sometimes find myself thinking that those white boys who protest against Islam may perhaps have a point.

Travelista:
There's nothing empowering about a miniskirt; don't even get me started on that feminism nonsense. Little has done more harm to women than the post-feminism movement but, as I said, don't get me started. Just because something isn't 'normal' in the West doesn't make it wrong. I see women wearing gele and ero and buba all the time; it's not native to these shores but we aren't advocating that they stop wearing them. I mentioned nuns wearing habits; should they be banned from wearing their veils? You have to remember that in years past, women were expected to show their virtuosity by covering themselves from head to toe; there's nothing foreign about what Muslims and others like them put on. That only changed dramatically in the 60s/70s and has gone downhill from there. If they succeed in banning burqas/hijabs, are they going to move on to Hindus that are in purdah or have to wear veils with their saris or salwaar kameez? When does it all stop? Or, is this really about stopping Islam?
Mini skirt can be seen as celebrating the freedom of a woman. She looks gorgeous, desirable and not afraid to show it. Can you say the same for a Burka?

Look, while society have norms, rules, law and regulation. I think it is fair for those who may be "Alien" or things that may be perhaps foreign respect the rule of the land. As it stand, there is no problem for now, as all it still a storm brewing in a tea cup. On the other hand, if the law changes like it did in France and Belgium, then let the rules and law be respected. Period. If you have a problem with it, please move to Saudi Arabia or somewhere similar.

Speaking of Saudi Arabia, it is the law of the land to ban churches and other religion aren't allowed. The attempts to ban Burka in the UK (even though it is a private member bill been proposed) is the same. So what is the problem?

Anything that covers the face is against the accepted and known norms in the Western world. Western countries, there have the right to outlaw it IF they deem it so. As it stand, Two third of the UK voting public will support a ban, and that is saying something.
PoliticsRe: Jakumu English Nonsense. You Do Not Know How To Write English.(junk English) by ElRazur: 4:11pm On Jul 19, 2010
Jarus:
I beg to differ here. There is a world of difference between Jakumo's and Kosovo's styles.
Kosovo tries to impress with his 'big' vocabularies which are usually out of context and fraught with spelling errors. To make matters worse, he commits grammar acrobatics in simple tenses. And it looks like he's trying to imitate Jakumo. His style is amateurish, to say the least.

Jakumo, on the hand, is obviously also showboating, but with much style and sense. One, he has been consistent with it for over 4 years. Two, he does his assignment right in little things like tenses, concord etc, unlike Kosovo. Three, being the first person to bring such style to Nairaland, and the popularity it has earned him, he is seen as original and pioneer of bombast on NL.

Of course, this is not to say blowing big grammar when simple words will easily pass the message is faultless, but I don't see anything wrong in anybody establishing a peculiar style, provided you are original and consistent with it, not 'copy, copy' style.  I personally find it amusing.
As my people say "Efa da ni nu eje"? (What is the difference between 6 and 7?). Seriously, how can there be much difference when the end result makes the reader confused, and losing track of what the message is about.

Mind you, most reader get confused because of poor execution and command of the actual meaning by the writer. So tell me, what is really the difference? huh

Yes he is showing off, but the difference between him and Kosovo is that Kosovo's approach is meant to make people laugh, whereas Jakumo's approach is to come across like he's good at it. In order words, one of them do it for a laugh, and the other one appears to be faking it. As it stand, Jakumo do not have any moral ground to have a go at Kosovo's approach. (And am not a Kosovo's fan either)

As per mistakes and spelling errors, it do not really bother me in the slightest. Heck, I make them from time to time. However, I frown at those who go out of their way to fake it.

Let me see if I understand this: people consider women wearing the burqa dehumanizing towards women but are alright with young girls wearing skirts so short, you can easily see if the curtains match the drapes? undecided I can't believe people are looking to criminalize modesty; where exactly is the world headed? If Muslim women have to lose the burqa/hijab, strip nuns of their habits. What's good for the goose, is good for the gander, right?
You forgot that, wearing mini skirt is normal in this part of the world. Burka on the other hand is not.

Also arguments can be made for Miniskirt, as an expression of feminism and empowerment, I am not sure such defence can be made for Burka.
