I used to agree with the theory of not charging to 100% but I think I'm differing now.

If the aim is not to use up ur cycles of charges fast, recharging and using up some percentage will also lead to using of the same cycles eventually. When you charge to 100, it gets counted as a full cycle.
Less than 100 doesn't get counted as a full cycle, and batteries have limited cycles to go through, before losing their capacities markedly.

It is true that modern phones stop charging when it gets to 100%. But take note that the phone is still working and will discharge to let's say 99%.
