1. I support Buhari because he is an old man, supported by clueless youths 2. I support Buhari because he will probe, and probe, and probe, and forget that Nigeria has other problems 3. I support Buhari because he will reverse the reform program started by past government and nationalise PHCN, and Nitel, and perhaps MTN 4. I support Buhari because he is the only man who knows that 'Abacha never stole' 5. I support Buhari because he will allocate over 80% of national resources to the 'underdeveloped North', and the rest of the country will share the rest 6. I support Buhari because he will be smart enough to relegate his southern vote winning sidekick, and unleash his draconian venom on 'infidel south' 7. I support Buhari because he will suspend the amnesty programme and channel the funds to them Almajiris, and the Boka Haram (as it's their turn to 'chop') 8. I support Buhari because his solution to the power problem is simple - pump in more government money to fix the darn thing (end of privatisation) 9. I support Buhari because he is the most intelligent Nigerian alive; and he is 'THE ONLY MAN' who can solve our problems - he is the MESSIAH 10. I support Buhari because the South is not important in calculations for electoral victory; 11. I support Buhari because he did not campaign in the south; his electoral victory in the south is guaranteed 12. I support Buhari because he has bigger ego issues, hence he can ignore popular BON debate because GEJ ignored the NN24 debate 13. I support Buhari because he unlike GEJ, becoming president once again is his life time goal and desperation. 14. I support Buhari because he is the greatest orator, most eloquent, most articulate, and most charismatic candidate Nigeria can ever boast of 15. I support Buhari because he is loved all over Nigeria - North and South- especially in North Central, South West, South South and South East 16. I support Buhari because after every election, he heads for court, and go into limbo; only to pop up at the next election year. 17. I support Buhari because Sai Buhari is not akin to Boko Haram; 18. I support Buhari because he is going to win the election on Nairaland courtesy of Bakare apologists. 19. I support Buhari because those who don't support him are constantly cursed or called all sort of names - like fools, unpatriotic, etc to intimidate them 20. I support Buhari because his supporters can't find a single thing GEJ has done that merits a credit. There are many reasons I 'support' Buhari. The above are just a few. However, since the reasons I support Buhari are too many, I will vote for GEJ, because I believe in his Power Road Map and his understanding that policy groundworks (aka plans) are necessary for eventually lift-off in any project. Please don't crucify me for my support for Buhari and my VOTE FOR GEJ. (I hope this doesn't get deleted AGAIN) |
playmode:Do you know the Ghanaian President - Prof John Attah Mills? Have you listened to him speak? How about Jacob Zuma, the South African President. The one who slept with an HIV infected lady without protection, and washed 'his manhood' thereafter? So in your mind and that of your Ghanaian and South African 'friends', they have better deal than our own GEJ? You think those two president can stand shoulder to shoulder with GEJ in oratory, yes oratory prowess and intelligence? My guy, you don fall my hand big time. I laugh in Twi and Swahili combined. You have sold yourself and your country very cheaply to your 'friends' and will forever remain inferior to them whenever you meet them. No-one laughed at Nigeria, you probably made them laughed at you. So when GEJ wins the election, what will you say to your friends. Let me guess 'don't mind that id/iot of a president. He is this and that.' Your 'friends' will have another good laugh (but deep down in their mind, they will pity you)" I am not saying you should vote for GEJ, or change your mind and perception about him. I am only advising, you not to stigmatize yourself in public, especially among foreigners, for anybody's sake. Presidents will come and go. What happen to your stigma? Can you get ride of it in one try? Sir, I say it again, stigmatizing yourself for GEJ sake is not worth.t. You will be made to feel inferior anytime you are contact with those friends. You will be seen as the one from a '%^&*#' country even when your foreign friends do not fare better. Better you stand tall, like Riabdu did in exile! Your call. |
KDULAR:My friend stop cursing the country because of your pettiness and frustration, because you curse your own family and friends (hope you can relate with that.) And it's a lot heavier and worse than your quarrel with the 'unpatriotic and hater' commentators. |
Ibime:The President GEJ, urged them to honour the debate. So one would have expected them forgo their sulking and childishness and honour the debate at least in their own interest. A former UN Sec. Gen once said "It is only a fool, who cannot change his mind." Their pettiness, foolishness, and arrogance will come back to haunt them for many years to come. As previously stated, the GEJ campaign strategy is much better. He has better strategists, and better score card! https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-630750.0.html |
Goodluck to you all, including Buhari and Ribadu supporters. GEJ Fresh Air 2011 |
ndu1988:Thank you my brother. But they would rather hoodwink us into voting for a man who should be encouraging younger people or better still in prison for treason. Buhari is an 'expired candidate' and cannot compare with GEJ in anyway. Simple as that. |
Eko Ile:If you personally cannot see a single good thing that Goodluck has done in his time as substantive president, tough luck for you. Objective minded people already know the strength and weaknesses of GEJ, and what he has achieved is there for all to see. So you can either continue to rant and rave about my support for GEJ, or convince me to vote for your candidate. If you choose the latter, then tell me in concrete terms why I should reward the man who truncated democracy; why I should vote an ethnic and religious bigot, other that the fact that he has a Bakare as running mate. My GEJ, who according to you has not accomplished anything is doing what no Nigeria sitting democratic has ever done in a long time - organizing a free and fair election. There your candidate will meet his waterloo, as it takes more than strong face, sectional campaign, and promises of probes to win elections. Simplicity is a gift . . . . . . that is why GEJ will win this election. |
I can't even begin to imagine why some of us Nigeria youth are thinking of voting for the ex-military dictator Buhari. Is it because to the discard-able appendage that Bakare is? Well meaning Nigerians should be considering voting in Pat Utomi. However, it's seems he didn't do his home work well this time around. Come 2015, we shall move a massive movement to help him become the President of Nigeria. Nigeria deserves a good leader, not this slightly above average politician (GEJ), or the below average despot (Buhari), and the screaming house green-horn (Ribadu). Anyway, the best option now is to vote for the GEJ, in-trust-for Prof. Pat Utomi (who would hopefully work harder next time). |
dejumotalks:I have answered the question already, and many people have answered it too. It stares you in the face. Here again: If you fail to see how much GEJ has done in the short time period he assume substantive power, even to the point of giving you hope of free and fair election, then you are playing the ignorance card (that is popular among the anti-GEJ goons). Nigeria has moved forward since he assumed leadership, take it or leave it. It changes nothing. Now where is your answer to this: Let's even assume that you are correct enough to say my support for GEJ is primarily due to ethnicity, I ask would you vote for Buhari if he paired with a Northerner? What reason do you think he brought an administrative green-horn - Bakare, as a running mate if not for the southerner, nay Yoruba votes? Is that not ethnicity, or if you would, for regional balancing, as I aptly put it? So if Buhari, and Ribudu who should know better play the ethnic cards, what do you expect of the masses - assume moral high ground? |
Hodaya:Let's even assume that you are correct enough to say my support for GEJ is primary due to ethnicity, I ask would you vote for Buhari if he paired with a Northerner? What reason do you think he brought an administrative green-horn - Bakare, as a running mate if not for the southerner, nay Yoruba votes. Is that not ethnicity, or if you the regional balancing, as I correctly put it? So if Buhari, and Ribudu who should know better play the ethnic cards, what do you expect of the masses - assume moral high ground? My friend, you are truly a hypocrite to assume I am playing the ethnic card, whereas it is people like you who are playing the card, by accusing others of playing it. If you fail to see how much GEJ has done in the short time period he assume substantive power, even to the point of giving you hope of free and fair election, then you are playing the ignorance card (that is popular among the anti-GEJ goons). Nigeria has moved forward since he assumed leadership, take it or leave it. It changes nothing. And while GEJ has done more groundwork by visiting as many states as possible to boost his chances, your mentor Buhari is still busy 'circum-navigating' his zone. But in your warped mind, Buhari is not an ethnic bigot like you? Eat your heart out, GEJ is Nigeria's best chance and best hope. Simplicity is a gift . . . . . . and that is why GEJ will win. |
efisher:Thanks, efisher This is politics. To be frank with you Buhari may be able to spearhead the battle against corruption, but I tell you it is not a battle he can win in four years if he wins the election. He will be forced to compromise to the chagrin of his supporters. By the time he finds out the depth, width, and reach of the problem it will be too late. Remember a certain Bola Ige, co-opted by the PDP out of desperate attempt to solve the power problem by fighting the corruption in power sector, how far did he go? Enter Ribadu Ribadu was a fierce fighter. I doubt if Buhari at the peak of his military might did as much as Ribadu when it comes to fighting corruption. Ribadu fought without fear (although in my opinion, he was lopsided. I see him more as an Obj stooge then, and perhaps now.) Ribadu said, when you fight corruption, it fights back. However between Buhari and Ribadu, I think Ribadu will be better able to fight corruption because of his up-to-date experience. That is my opinion. But is corruption my greatest concern? No, please! Why? The reason is simple, corruption index: http://www.transparency.org/policy_research/surveys_indices/cpi/2010/results . At the beginning of Obj regime, Nigeria was the most corrupt. Today, we have climbed some notches higher to 134 out 171. We are better than many countries - Russia, Kenya inclusive. With transparent election currently in progress, the index will improve. More honest men in national assembly as ministers will improve it further - slow but steady our lot will improve. So what am I interested in - Power, and infrastructural development. Enter GEJ, We can call him mumu, ode, and what have we. We say he has spent 12 year doing nothing, but when something is achieved we conveniently forget he was part of it and credit the dead - Yar Adua, funny? The thing with me is that I believe in him. I am content with his power plans, railways are working, and he is addressing regional imbalance, along side other matter. GEJ is rebuilding Nigeria from the inside, not cosmetics. The Niger Delta is quiet in part because of him, and Nigeria seems to be inching forward. Why should I give up steady progress for quick fix? Sorry I am not that naive, i am not buying. The silent, hard working, camera shy, not-so-smart-looking President is efficient and sufficient enough for me. And the fact that he is able to outfox so called smarter opponents by 'doing nothing', makes him more enigmatic. My mind is made. I am not experimenting with the unknown. I will vote GEJ as I will vote Fashola because Nigeria is my only home. ONE NIGERIA. |
Okay people. Let us for the purpose of argument agree that the debate/media chat is not credible (something NL intellectuals have not agreed). How can we sell this to the viewing (illiterates/semi-illiterate) masses who have been watched the wide reaching BON organised event. My point is that in the end, the masses saw and heard Sambo, as they will see and hear Goodluck tomorrow. So they'll probably remember who they saw and heard. The excuses offered by the oppositions for not attending this BON debate/media chat will be exactly what they are - excuses. Plans, plans, plans, build, building, power stations, electricity, trains, etc will resonate with them (masses) as the promises or plans made by PDP-GEJ/Sambo? What will resonate with them them regarding the oppositions programmes? If they recollect anything at all it will be probes, anti-corruption crusade/jihad, arrest of Mr. this, corruption this, corruption that, jail this, jail that? How does this fiery sounding concepts no matter how lofty relate with the troubled masses? This is not a matter of tribe, Buhari's plans sound like Nigeria will go through another period of uncertainty. I am not ready to waste another four years waiting for someone to clean Nigeria. When I know that all I need to do is set good examples - clean myself, and help others to do the same. Buhari cannot do it for me, for us! He just want to be called President again! Back to the debate issue, whether GEJ disrespected them (tactically) or not is not a very good reason to miss out in the publicity that the BON debate/chat would have afforded. They have missed the opportunity to introduce their own agenda (and perhaps forced the so-called hard questions). But this is my opinion. Their supporters claimed it was a good decision for them to boycott today event. This is their opinion, and I am more than happy to respect it. I hope also they boycott tomorrow Presidential debates as well, and perhaps follow it up by boycotting the elections at well (excuses are easy to get, blame it on Goodluck's names). I wish progress for Nigeria, and I don't think Buhari or Ribadu can guarantee that. So while they see disgrace (in the one man show), the PDP sees opportunity to sell their candidate. I will end by noting the arrogance and folly of those who think voting GEJ is unpatriotic. I tell you, it is the acme of patriotism to vote GEJ, the only national leaning candidate of the lot. The results of his hardwork and tenacity is there for all to see. His ability to build bridge across the nation, forming required consensus, and shunning uncanny ones is what Nigeria needs now. The undiscerning may call it weakness - but strong people don't usually show it off. Only pretenders do! Big shots are small shots who keep shooting! Simplicity is a gift! That is why. . . . . . GEJ will win this election. |
MAYOWAAK:Following through with the Power road map, the gas revolution master plan, the railways, coastal roads, PIB, FOI, electoral reforms, equipping the police, boosting the economy, enthroning rule of law, and allowing the judiciary to function with let or hindrance, that is why Nigerians are voting for GEJ. GOODLUCK/SAMBO 2011 |
asamuel:Quit deluding yourself. Buhari cannot win in Plateau, Benue, Kwara, and some other North Central state. Lagos will vote ACN for Governorship but GEJ for President. Ogun state will align itself with GEJ as will many other states in South West. South South and South East will vote massively for GEJ. The real battle will be in the North. In the end GEJ will prevail. A few will hug the transformer, but majority will celebrate freedom from possible dictatorship by expired candidate that is General Buhari. |

stormm:I gave you the hard facts not sentiment. Goodluck is good man, not tainted by the corruption around him. Among the top candidate, he has the best programmes, and road-maps. Funny how you jump on the luck and destiny bait. Now tell me which of his propositions you have issues with, and how the other candidates can do a better job. What have they proposed? Except perhaps probes and policy reversals? Btw, these sudden vibes for Buhari, are they not out of sentiment for Bakare? Be honest for once. When you point a finger at someone, your other fingers point at you. |
Sometime ago, we harried Sony Corporation for a video game commercial that was offensive to Nigerians. So are we saying it is save for a public own entity to condone offensive messages about government of Nigeria, while private entity aren't allowed? Let's eschew double standard and respect the office of the president, especially as we want our candidate to occupy it. Fair play people, fair play! |
honeric01:Politics is a game of number, and strategy. Infuriating your opponent is a very smart strategy. With very good returns https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-630750.0.html |
500 thousand direct job, plus multiplier effect, if it become a reality as I believe it would. Then we are in for great time. Let's vote for Goodluck to avoid it being scuttled by reversals. |
^^^^ Obama did same. |
@topic How did Obama pay for his election campaign? |
stormm:Thank you Stormm, I am a pragmatist, not an idealist. And most Nigerians are pragmatist, that is one good reason GEJ will win the election. Is GEJ and PDP best for for the country? To a certain degree yes. Especially because of GEJ. PDP problem has always been a function problems of the PDP Presidents. Obj was a very bad leader; very vindictive and uncouth bushman who imprisonment, and near death experience hardened. He unleashed his vengeance on Nigerians; He used RIBADU to deflect attention from his thieving self to his pilfering opponent. As his twilight approached, he foisted on Nigeria the most corrupt election we ever knew. Enter Yar Adua, Overwhelmed by the magnitude of corruption that brought him into office, he sought restitution and tried to make amend. He reformed the electoral body, dismissed the attack dog (Ribadu), calmed the Niger Delta, exposed the power sector corruption, and set agenda for continued transformation. Alas, ill health and multitude of policy reversals did not allow some of his good intention to come to light. Why Goodluck - Fortune favours the brave - - Good-luck is for those who are prepared - Goodluck is prepared to lead, he has been leading. Many attribute everything that come his way as Goodluck, and many mis-interpretes his consensus building as weakness. It is not as we know that 'the cautious movement of the cat is not the sign of cowardice' Slow but surely, Goodluck went to work. POWER AND INFRASTRUCTURAL PROBLEM Realizing that throwing money at power problem (same as proposed by Buhari in name of improving their capacity) is not the way forward, Goodluck team opted for privatisation. This is a big blow to the power sector cabal - who will eventually be out of business when the private sector finally takes over. No candidate can give a definite time table for the solution of power problem. Only the private sectors can. The trains are running again, coastal roads are been built, Enugu Airport being upgraded to international standard, etc. We need stability in the polity for these work. Of the four front-runners, only Goodluck and perhaps Ribadu can deliver stability. Buhari looks a shade too rigid. RATE- GEJ 70%, RIBADU 60%, BB 40% SPEED OF ANTI-CORRUPTION CRUSADE/JIHAD Corruption is a worm, that has eaten deep into our society. Many have said aplenty that Buhari can deal with it. But many seem to forget that Ribadu has a track record (even if clouded with selective justice and partiality) of fighting corruption. However, his current romance with Tinubu whose corruption is of 'international dimension' is a big minus on his credibility. Buhari, yes may be able to deal with corruption, but he might also stop the engine of Nigeria running with policy reversals, and bureaucratic bottlenecks, and economic turmoil, that was a common denominator of the Yar Adua presidency. Goodluck was not involved in the Alamesiaga's loot, nor has any corruption charges been leveled against him. He has at least started the fight against impunity and has respected court's unfavorable rulings. That my friend is what I subscribe to; it's an important component in the strategic (long term) fight against corruption - groundwork. RATING: BB 80%, GEJ 70%, RIBADU 50 ECONOMY There is not point debating this. Power Road Map, Gas Master-plan, PIB, Coastal Road, Akanu Ibiam Int'l Airport etc are potential job creating projects. Nigerian is heading for quantum growth. I fear Buhari will mess all these up with reversals. Nigerians should be afraid of Buhari. Ribadu is simply to eager, too inexperience. He needs to learn. He is better off in GEJ cabinent as a minister or special adviser. RATING: GEJ 80%, RIBADU 60%, BB 40% TIME AND CHANCE I mention time and chance the other time, someone called me silly. Buhari had his chances. Why did we not root for him when he squared up against Obj, and Yar Adua. What has he done since that he didn't do before? He is old, tired, and perhaps expired as Tinubu said. His is one of the old military baggage that Nigeria is better rid of. Bakare simply cannot make him better. Time and Chance are not in his favour - the signs favours Goodluck for equity, justice, and fairness. GEJ may not be as eloquent in oratory. But he knows his onions, and has put in a lot of work so far. Nigerians appreciate his effort, and believe his time, chance. Goodluck has happened to us. That is it Stormm. GEJ is destined to transform Nigeria without upheaval, let's ride on his hard-work and good-luck. |
gernded:Thanks my brother, I am only telling it as I see it. |
Jimmy Boy:Sheath which sword? The Beaf humour? ![]() Please Beaf and Sagamite, dont stop this cartoon. Please continue. Meanwhile, one serious issue here. The poll? Where is 'Indifferent' in the poll? Cos I dont really care if Buhari, Ribadu, or Shekarau are participating in the BON debates or not. They've had their fun at the NN24 debates, and I'm sure they will enjoy facing off with themselves at the 'What about us?' debate. If they cowardly, strategically, tactically, tactfully, angrily, foolishly, intelligently, etc stay away from the BON debate, they have shot themselves in the legs. Goodluck will again ride his good-luck. Like someone said earlier, I don't really mind pre-election 'chat' with a sitting president. It gives Nigerians the chance to listen to his plans, without the distraction of the opportunistic opposition candidates. Nigerians will not notice their absence from the debates! They will see Goodluck looming image, and they will cast the votes for him. End of! |
CAMPAIGN STRATEGY - SCORE CARD CANDITATE: GOODLUCK EBELE JONATHAN NATIONWIDE CAMPAIGN With the benefit of being the first on the field, and plenty of goodwill, Jonathan road his luck; racing through the regions and states to the warm embrace of Nigerians, who love the lucky enigma. Many wished same luck will shower on them. Oppositions meanwhile, squabbled about choices of running mates, and possibility of alliance (which never came.) With bitterness and heavy heart, they went on the campaign trail, a tad too late. Needing time and space to rally their base and win over neutrals; they yearn for debates, any debate at all. STRATEGY SCORE: 85% NN24 DEBATE SAGA: Debates are campaign strategies aimed at winning over neutrals. In Nigeria the neutrals are very few and scattered. Why should a front-runner and incumbent allow himself to be used for cheap publicity stunt by those playing catch-up? That is exactly what the NN24 debates would have afforded the other candidates. By tactically avoiding the NN24 debates, GEJ has exposed those three candidates for what they are - bunch of dis-organised opportunists- Shekarau, an oustider, apparently, the brightest of them! Opposition protestation at his none appearance was successfully countered by his insistence on appearing on the bigger BON platform. Many neutrals agreed with him, his followers are more than happy with the strategy. SCORE: 80% WHAT ABOUT US? DEBATE GEJ team approached this banana skin with tact. What does the youth want? Dbanj musicals or more debates. Certainly the youth, nay Nigerians, will love to hear their president debate, even if it is for the sake of it. GEJ will go on the campaign trail with Dbanj trilling the Youth. Anger will simmer but only for a while. Soon they will hear him speak on BON and overlook his previous disappearing act. STRATEGY SCORE: 65% BON DEBATES GEJ has outfoxed the oppositions by not showing up at previous debates. He watched them debate among themselves, attacked each other; he studied their strength and weakness. Now the three ‘main’ oppositions candidate have threatened not to honour this (BON) debate. For an opposition seeking coverage, and attention, this is a poor strategy. The Nigeria electorate is not so sophiscated, as to appreciate their grouse. In advance democracy they might stand a chance, but in Nigeria, other opposition candidates will take their place. Should they follow-up with their threat, when the ‘common man’ watches the BON debate, it will either be GEJ explaining his plan for Nigerian either by himself, or flank by two or more unknown faces. Nigerians will forget the previous debates which GEJ did not turn up for, and remember the current one (after-all to even consider voting a former dictator, is an indicator of how short our memories are). GEJ wins. STRATEGY SCORE: 80% CAMPAIGN MESSAGE While the opposition plan to do what has been done before (probe, reverse, spend money, dialogue, etc), GEJ has rode in a Train, is building costal road, has a power road maps, Gas Master plan, etc. So while they are talking about what they will do, GEJ is showing what he has already done. STRATEGY SCORE: 80% |
Impressive results. The banking sector is out of the woods. |
^^^^ His attempt was apt, actually. Try to see beyond tribe. |
Oyedepo is one of the trail blazers in our modern Nigeria. Good work. |
We are ONE NIGERIA. Please let thrive wherever we find ourselves. Let stop all the tribalism. It's stunting our growth, seriously. |
JaaizTech:So you admit then that GEJ could have simply suspended the project, institute a probe panel that will spend some billions of Naira to find the project fraudulent? Then he will spend another two - three years to consult with experts before re-awarding the contract for a 22nd century railway system with futuristic design, with a 25 years delivery deadline? Come on pple, lets give kudos to deserving people. It doesn't hurt. GEJ deserves and should take credit for this. |
Kudos to the GEJ team. Revitalising the rail transport is one of the biggest achievement of his just over one year administration as substantial president of Nigeria. Along with his power sector reform, gas master plan, and perhaps on-coming signing of FOI and PIB bills as laws. Nigeria under President GEJ is destined for greater height. Pride is finally coming back to the battered Nigerians. With all his imperfections GEJ is a good administrator, he has done well. He deserve our support! |
ekt_bear:The issue of cost, as it affect supply is a critical one. Like you mentioned, there may still be challenges in supply. But by saying it has been roundly dealt, I am not entirely wrong. Critics of the GEJ government often lie that he is clueless. How is this coming from a clueless man? http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/jonathan-unveils-gas-agenda-for-power-industrialisation-thursday/88206/ GEJ is hardworking man, who is positioning the country for great height. Trying hard to undo all the malaise of the previous regime. The Gas Master Plan is another master stroke from the man of luck. His critics will pretend it never happened. That is often the problem. We cannot afford to grind to halt or go back. GEJ is the man with the plans. He is the way forward. |
