Ezemann: I guess those living in Lagos have an advantage over those in other states. Akwa ibom state has been the worst hit with regards to unemployment. In uyo, the only job you can do is to be a private school teacher with as low as 15k monthly. After service in 2018, I worked in a private school on a pay of 16k. It couldn't do anything. So I resigned after a year and six months. I rode keke in town for about 3 years...till I got tired. I put it aside. I want to learn a skill. Akwa is the worst. Life generally is hard. I think Lagos and Ogun state. Ogun state have the highest number of industries/companies in nigeria. Many people who come for NYSC do get jobs here. It is easy to get 40-70k jobs depending on certificate and experience along the industrial areas - Sango/Otta axiz, Mowe/Ibafo axis, Agbara axis, Odo nguysan/Ogijo axis |

While at it, they themselves must change attitude and be accountable citizens. They can't. Humans are not designed that way. As humans, we have diverse interest reason why we can't all align together at the same tie. LagosismyHome: Giving the cold that is about to hit us, I am sure most blacks would rather stay in their country. You don't see Emirates indigene stressing themselves to migrate anywhere
The blackman choose to keep allowing bad leadership to strive. If you think of how Tinubu or Atiku have so enriched themselves, in a normal society both won't even be given the platform to run as president , but now you see sane Nigerians campaigning for either . .... We are really not ready ... At the bolded.....i don't think people will run or leave due to cold. They will adjust. It is better to adjust and earn dollars than to come back home and be idle. Many people will abuse you and call you lazy for running away from opportunities many are dying to have. Also, if people can be migrating enmass to Saudi with also an extreme hot weather just to make money, they will do fine in the cold ones too. About we choosing good leaders.........i want you to know that humans (the masses) are just numbers, in reality they don't have any power for the simple fact that humans are not DESIGNED to work together or have one voice. How is that possible.....i don't know. Yes, humans are very very very dangerous when they come together to speak in one voice but that is as far as it will go.... A MERRY WISH |

Prosperousman: What you said is true sir, but one can still sucessfully run a factory without constant nepa electricity. Even modern day poultry requires 24 hours electricity to power their automatic poultry houses.
I onced managed a farm where we intentionally disconnected from Nepa because of high billing.
We produce minimum of 20 tonnes of feed in 5 working days. We have 4 standby generators and multiple spare parts for the generator and motor boards.
On the long run, it was cheaper for us to maintain our generators and engines. Power interuption, low voltage and incomplete power phase from nepa destroys your engines faster.
My conclusion is once you are financially capable to personally provide your own electricity, you will run a sucessful farm/factory. As for the cost of diesel, everything is expensive in Nigeria. There is no farm feedmill / factory that does not use diesel, a poultry hatchery required 24 hours/day uninterrupted power supply to run their incubators.
Once you balance your operational cost, you will surely break even, thanks Well, you are right but i just want to stay away from businesses that rely heavily on diesel. For farming, it is only when you hire tractor you come in contact with diesel and that is even indirectly. It is the headache of the tractor owner to constantly source for it an maintain is diesel driving engines. I plan using farmworkers next year. So from my clearing of farm, ridging, planting, weeding, harvesting, spraying etc i won't come in contact with diesel and will install small solar to power their lights and charging of phones. The only time i will have a small feel of diesel is when am moving my goods to store in town |

Prosperousman: 1. First of all, farming is not a get rich quick scheme. You are probably going to spend the next 2 to 3 years building structures for your farm and paying salaries.
2. In terms or management, your relative should act as an overseer not a management staff because it will be difficult for you to penalize your relative if they default in their responsibility. Trying to penalize your relative will lead to quarrel
3. Buying a land is better than lease. Fence the land to provide more security.
4. Install wireless 360 degree solar cctv, you can view what is happening in your farm from anywhere in the world.
5. When recruiting a manager, make sure the cv is rich and has reputable gurantors. Most importantly, the amount you pay determine the type of manager you get. Most experienced managers would only work for you if you have a good salary structure, otherwise they have the experience to setup their own farm. Wahala is when you want to underpay a manager, the person will either mismanage your farm or resign.
6. If possible, build a farm accomodation in your farm, this will make it easier to recruit attendants and supervisors
7. Always ask for daily report from your manager everyday. Including photos and videos
8. Try to make sure you pay directly to customers account for bulk purchases. All purchases must be approved unless emergency.
9. Your relative should be in farm at least once a week to make sure that the report given to you tallies with what is on site.
Etc. Nice write up sir. I agree with all you wrote |

If you stay in Canada, the best countries to measure it with are US, UK, Australia and Co. Not a third world country for God sake. When you call Nigeria, then countries like Kenya, Ghana, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines are all in the same ranges. Stop comparing Canada to Nigeria. It is unfair. It like comparing English premier league to Nigeria league. They are not in the same cadre.

truthsayer009: 3/ I don't understand why you or Nigerians compare their Abroad earnings to Nigerian earnings, you don't even live in Nigeria? So why are you comparing your pay for ONE DAY to cover feeding for a month in Nigeria, are your bills paid in Naira?
You are asking why we import clothes in Nigeria?! Does Nigeria produce clothes, apart from some industries in Aba where clothes are made, can the clothes produced in Nigeria be enough to cater for the demand of the population of Over 250 Million people?
This is why arguments online are sometimes pointless.
At the end of the day, to each his own. I believe if you can save 1000 pounds and above monthly & still live a good life in the Uk, then you're fine. I am tired of arguments abeg. This your number 3 point is really the catalyst for most Japas you know. When they here the amount you earn in pounds or dollars, they do the calculation and then start dreaming about the kind of life they will live in nigeria. You earn in pounds, you are working and staying in UK so why calculating in nairas? If all people traveling out are to work, stay and live ever after in whichever country they find themselves without coming back, I can safely say 75% of them will only have a small house to show with 1 or 2 cars after 20/25 years of rigorous hustling. The only succor they have is that regular converting to naira as a hope they will meet up. |

Regex: Your first paragraph is relatively not true. I have lived in Newcastle, Sunderland, London and now Living in one of the cities of the Essex County. Minimum wage is the same everywhere. Cities cheaper than London pay more than London because there are scarce workforce. The only difference is London roads are well articulated and transport systems well connected in London. In London there is relatively no difference in transportation during Bank holiday and normal days. The difference is so negligible. But outside London, you could tell.
The op you quoted is very much right in what he's said. In fact he has spoken out experience and not hearsay.
The reason I mentioned where I have lived in the UK is because I was paid the less in London and paid more in Newcastle upon Tyne. The type of job I did in both cities and how they're valued by them may have an effect on it nonetheless. En en. Well, what can i say. |

truthsayer009: Have you ever lived in plateau state, Ibadan, Benin City or any where else different from the major cities like Lagos, Abuja, Kano or PH in Nigeria? Those places are actually functional & great to live but more country side, also cheaper to live in (If not for terrorism or security issues in Nigeria now). When it comes to job opportunities, you get more better in Lagos but living outside Lagos is best for every thing regarding food, quality of life and lifestyle.
Currently I live in the UK, for long periods I have stayed both inside London & far outside London. The difference is very clear & cannot be compared to staying inside London itself, underground tube & train routes to almost every single place in London, overwhelming Job opportunities, fun activities, the business minded people you meet etc, CEOs and entrepreneurs from all over the world. Thank God I have lived there myself, If not I would have believed every tom dick & harry story on the Internet. Ofcourse developed countries all have infrastructure and basic amenities in every city, but you cannot compare it to London please.
I can guarantee you 110% that the major reason people move away from London or other top UK major cities is cost, every other thing is better in those major cities itself.
Aside accommodation, virtually every other expense of daily living is relatively cheaper in a western nation --- This statement is also FALSE. Electricity bills and all sort of Bills have doubled in the past 1 year. Clothing is expensive, Every form of Labour is expensive, Child Care is overly expensive, Surgeries are mad expensive. I can go On & On.
Food is cheap, at least I am sure of that one & kids between the ages of 5 and 16 are entitled to a free place at a state school.
There are good sides & bad sides to every thing, nobody can sugar coat anything for me. I live there man! I also believe the more you move out from London, the leser your income will be thereby evening out what you are running aay from. If you want to avoid paying 500k and above house rent in Lagos because it is expensive, Yes you will get a nice decent 200k apartment in abeokuta but it will be very very hard fro you to get 250k and above job in abeokuta. |

Nigerians are very very wicked people and it is the reason the country is not and will not move forward.
Nigerians abroad are always laughing the Nigerians at home especially when they here devaluation and they make calculations on how much their monthly savings is in naira. They are happy, satisfied they made the right decision of jumping at the right time and not suffering like others at home. Meanwhile, the ones at home are hoping the ones abroad fails and not have tangible savings so that when they eventually come home, they can subtly throw jabs at them that what have they achieved after so many years abroad. Same thing also play out with the working and jobless. The one working in chevron or Mobil will be balling, riding nice cars and rubbing it on the one struggling while the one struggling is waiting and hoping for the day the employed one will fall or get sacked and have a feeling of what it is to be down. Yet this is a country with so many churches and mosques and a strong religious background. Tufiakwaaaa |

VMuna: Thanks a lot for your breakdown of monthly living expenses. It's shed light on what one should expect to a reasonable extent.
I've come to the conclusion that a majority of this resounding narrative on how the UK has suddenly become difficult to live in, is being pushed by those who didn't run a thorough investigation before embarking on their japa journey, while those who are doing quite well, do not bother to respond to those complaints.
A Band 5 NHS nurse can earn roughly £1,550 - £1,650 monthly after tax while working just 3 days a week. If she decides to take up agency roles on her free days, she can comfortably double that pay. Now factor in joint income from both spouses and you'll get a basic idea of how much they stand to earn.
I think it just boils down to running a proper investigation, asking the right questions from the right people, before making that japa decision.
The UK tends to favour certain professions, come rain or shine, so one has to think well, choose wisely, set financial targets and live within one's means.
My viewpoint may change as time progresses and I get older, but I think it's best to live in the UK to build life savings and eventually move to another country with a lower cost of living but still has access to good healthcare.
Thanks once again for your post. Like someone said above. It is better to earn in pounds or dollars and stay in a low cost country. Earning dollars and staying in nigeria won’t be a bad decision after all but to be honest, there are some basic amenities that are not in nigeria which we are not enjoying. The government schools should have been standard and superb like too private schools likewise the hospitals. I guess we don’t take these things serious but they are basic amenities necessary for the citizens. Life is not all about money, sometimes a good environment is very important and such environment here are very very expensive for the common man. The general hospital my mum died at was very very terrible. Hospital like hostel with each patient having beds close to each other. Fans not working, general toilet. Even going there alone, you will be infected with another disease entirely different from the one you brought. Must everyone use private hospital? Can even all the citizens afford private hospitals? The private hospital we even used before moving her to general is a topic for another day sef. I don’t blame people going because many things are wrong here. We staying back have our personal reasons and the most important thing is that at the end of the day, whether abroad or nigeria, we all should be able to feed ourselves without disturbing the other person or be a burden to them. Yorùbá Proverbs are used by elders to describe a scenario in a subtle way whereby those not knowledgeable enough will lose out or unable to grab the meaning while those knowledgeable enough will understand it.
Pardon me for not writing with the Amin ohun (the Yoruba signs/marks to describe the real meaning of words)
Viewers can also add theirs be it Yoruba proverbs, Nigeria or African proverbs in general.
1. Babalawo to da ifa afuye gege fun era, owun na lo da ona fuwa fun ekuro / Babalawo to da ifa afuye gege fun ayan, owun na lo da airinako fun adiye.
These two are one and the direct translation is that - The herbalist who did the charm for hen to regularly be meeting a cockroach to eat, is still the same man who did the charm for cockroach to be very heavy to pick and swallow by a predator.
Good examples -
It is no surprise that most thieves who do a strong charm from an herbalist always try to kill them o as not to be able to uncover their source of power in future by an ambitious police.
OR
The colonialists who support a government within their colony with weapons will still be the ones funding and arming the rebels at the back.

tensazangetsu20: The world economy wasn't built to support 8 billion people and technology has really reduced the number of hands needed to do any job. You are a marine engineer. In the olden days see how many engineers were needed to man a vessel now due to technology we need at most 4 and currently research is going on to build completely unmanned vessels so the number will reduce from 4 to maybe 1. Technology is erasing a lot of jobs. The world isn't meant to be as populated as it is currently. Third world dwellers in Africa go feel am pass oyinbo. Birth rates in western countries have dropped astronomically but the average in Africa is still 5 per woman. Asia has a lot of population but mind you the bulk of the world's manufacturing is done in Asia and such large scale industrialization will always provide jobs at scale nothing like such in Africa and Africans are birthing like fools. That is true. World economy was not built to withstand 8 billion people....Never!!! The world isn't meant to be as populated as it is currently - I guess the world needs constant wars to keep the population in check. The relative peace we have heard between 1945 after signing war pact to now. In 1900, Belgium population and Philippine were 7m each but as at year 2000, Belgium population was 10m while projected to be 11m by 2050. Meanwhile Philippines was 76m as at 2000 and it is expected to reach 127m by 2050 As at independence in 1960, Nigeria had a population of 45m but 77 years down the line, it has times more than 4 to be close to 220m and for a country with a small land mass, the population is way way way more than what the land and resources can sustain. My manager who is working under me has 3 kids while me the Oga wey dey earn far pass am they fear the 2 wey i get sef. It is just like the poor and the illiterates are very careless and don't care about kids control and welfare. If you know what it means to have a family - wife and kids, you will never want to have more than 2 kids. I also believe that one of the reasons why many people are very poor can be seen through their decision making. Anyone poor and have 2 kids above is a reflection of his decision in other areas of life. These things don't hide. If you can have such kids with meagre income, it is very easy to know the kind of decision you will make financially, educationally and other aspect of life - A careless man. I know what am paying monthly for my kids educational insurance incase something bad happens to my enemy, they have been planned to atleast finish their education up to university level. I enrolled my family for NHIS medical insurance, i am still planning what to give them when they graduate (cash or land) so that they won't start from scratch, is it the family outings or vacations to plan? with all these, only a FOOL will have more than 2 kids if your monthly income is not up to $2,000 per month living in Africa. |

It is a menace spreading world wide at an alarming rate. Joblessness, unemployment, depression, hopelessness etc are sky rocketing. I don't really fault those who yearn for kids, maybe 1 kid per parent is what should be adopted. Atleast, no matter what, a man and his wife working should be able to feed a kid. Atleast |
