The world economy wasn't built to support 8 billion people and technology has really reduced the number of hands needed to do any job. You are a marine engineer. In the olden days see how many engineers were needed to man a vessel now due to technology we need at most 4 and currently research is going on to build completely unmanned vessels so the number will reduce from 4 to maybe 1. Technology is erasing a lot of jobs. The world isn't meant to be as populated as it is currently. Third world dwellers in Africa go feel am pass oyinbo. Birth rates in western countries have dropped astronomically but the average in Africa is still 5 per woman. Asia has a lot of population but mind you the bulk of the world's manufacturing is done in Asia and such large scale industrialization will always provide jobs at scale nothing like such in Africa and Africans are birthing like fools.
That is true. World economy was not built to withstand 8 billion people....Never!!!

The world isn't meant to be as populated as it is currently - I guess the world needs constant wars to keep the population in check. The relative peace we have heard between 1945 after signing war pact to now.
In 1900, Belgium population and Philippine were 7m each but as at year 2000, Belgium population was 10m while projected to be 11m by 2050. Meanwhile Philippines was 76m as at 2000 and it is expected to reach 127m by 2050
As at independence in 1960, Nigeria had a population of 45m but 77 years down the line, it has times more than 4 to be close to 220m and for a country with a small land mass, the population is way way way more than what the land and resources can sustain.
My manager who is working under me has 3 kids while me the Oga wey dey earn far pass am they fear the 2 wey i get sef.
It is just like the poor and the illiterates are very careless and don't care about kids control and welfare.
If you know what it means to have a family - wife and kids, you will never want to have more than 2 kids.
I also believe that one of the reasons why many people are very poor can be seen through their decision making. Anyone poor and have 2 kids above is a reflection of his decision in other areas of life. These things don't hide.
If you can have such kids with meagre income, it is very easy to know the kind of decision you will make financially, educationally and other aspect of life - A careless man.
I know what am paying monthly for my kids educational insurance incase something bad happens to my enemy, they have been planned to atleast finish their education up to university level. I enrolled my family for NHIS medical insurance, i am still planning what to give them when they graduate (cash or land) so that they won't start from scratch, is it the family outings or vacations to plan? with all these, only a FOOL will have more than 2 kids if your monthly income is not up to $2,000 per month living in Africa.

Your kids have already been born. You cant unborn them. No one knew Nigeria will get to this level as of even 2014. My own is those who see how Nigeria is and are giving birth and having kids even on low income and no secured job. Its satanic and evil.
I understand you bro. This is not only a Nigeria thing. It is a menace spreading world wide at an alarming rate.
Joblessness, unemployment, depression, hopelessness etc are sky rocketing.

I don't really fault those who yearn for kids, maybe 1 kid per parent is what should be adopted. Atleast, no matter what, a man and his wife working should be able to feed a kid. Atleast

DesignMaestro:
Go to any UBA branch and tell the CC you want to open a dom advantage Account. If the CC rep asks of referees, tell him you are opting for savings domiciliary. Most of those CC reps are like robot, they mostly ask for those requirements by default.

When I wanted to open my dom acc, I visited the UBA website and found the Dom Advantage which requires no referees. However, on getting to a UBA branch, the first thing the CC rep asked for were the referees despite telling him the type of dom acc I wanted to open.

As I explained that I saw it on their website, he called another colleague who affirmed and help me to open it with just national Id, Nepa bill and a deposit of $10.

It is the acc I now use to withdraw my fund in dollar from payoneer.
Waooooooo

Good. I think i will opt for this for my wife though the uba special dollar card does not even require a uba account nor referee.

Fund with Naira kee. I doubt you can ever fund this account with naira
This is how it works.
You make a naira transfer into it, then UBA do the approval.
If they approve it, they do the naira exchange rate at cbn rate and fund it.
The approval takes like 24 hours.
To be successful in this, we usually have uba staff who do the follow up. It is not easy.
I think max they fund the card/account is $4000 per annum if i can still remember before cbn placed a cap again on it.
Alternatively, if you can't wait for the uba/cbn approval and their wahalas, just pay in dollars into it. Shikena

Solofresh2:
I saw a thread where a Nairalander CcAblemed talked about about being depressed about how his wrong upbringing by his parents have brought depression on him daily.
I was surprised when I saw that thread because I thought I was alone.Infact I almost cursed the day I was given birth to because I feel less of a human.I can't socialize,I feel shy to express myself to people. My parents are not even financially bouyant. My education stopped at secondary School. I luckily got employed as a cleaner only to get bullied and I have to leave the job.If you have never experienced first class poverty, you don't know what God has done for you. I begin to ask my self a lot of questions I can't answer because am of good character.I lost hope one day and almost committed sucide. My took a turn when I ran away from home. I was getting calls from everyone, but I ignoed I slept under a popular Lagos bridge for the first time in my life.I had no place to go but I don't want to go back home.To cut the story short,A guy helped me secure a job at a nylon factory .I saved up most my salary and that guy accommodated me.I am a computer Engineer. Ask me how. I left the factory Last 2 years and I was able save 1.2m Naira from my salary with some little change.I saved for Good give years!
I eat like a church rat and with my friend's support.I decided to learn computer Engineering from my money but the man seeing my condition help me learn for free.
Now I own my computer Engineering firm and I am an astrologist as well,Am living comfortably on my own now.I got in touch with my mum when I I started learning computer Engineering.I learnt my dad left her after I left.I hate my dad right now but there is nothing I can do about it.He remains my dad either I like it or not.
My point now is you have to leave that shell you have been for years. You have to stand for your self and buckle up with life.Bring your self confidence to existence.Rebuild yourself now or you remain that way for life
Have said it before here on nairaland that over-protective of children by parent and over-pampering spoils kids.
For kids to grow, they need a little bit of poverty and a little bit or exposure. A balance. Too much of either of the 2 will be catastrophic in future.
In my own case, i came from a poor home to but from an over-pampered parent especially my mother.
It affected my youth days. I was timid, shy, couldn't even approach ladies, my pako friends and circle do call me omo mummy or butty among them. I was not rugged or street smart as the environment demanded. Literally, i struggled but what really helped me is my school and nature of work.
Went to a para-military school were i was first trained to be bold and fearless. It really helped me better than the previous self. Then i got a job on a passenger vessel where i will have to address the passengers with micro-phone for safty briefing before we move just like the air hostess do on flight.
Meeennn.....i nearly ran away doing that. A shy and an introvert. I always try as much as possible to avoid that particular time at work.
Facing crowds, the fear, the stammering, loss of words or what to say, sweating etc and i started working as an officer at the age of 23.
So most people under me that i will have to control, delegate jobs/duties, monitor are mostly older people. As old as my dad sef and i struggled managing these guys but all these lessons have really helped me and brushed me up.
Now i talk boldly in the crowd, i face hundreds of congregation boldly in church and talk fluently.
My business also helped me. Sometimes going to the market to meet market women to advertise my products.
Initially i struggled. I always feel disappointed when my products are turned down or ridiculously priced-down. I always cave in but now? omo, if you see the way i flow , you will think i am a born-marketer.
I love the man have become. Every blessed day i keep improving and becoming better and i see myself opened to more and more opportunities.
The one i am improving on presently is physical combats. I have enrolled in boxing class and will enrol in karate soon. I don't like it or want it when my mates chance me. When people know your capability, that if they mess up you will treat their Bleep-up, they respect you and give you space.
I know how many times have been robbed at borders - ghana/togo/benin and how i receive blows while resisting but not again. If anybody try am with me, i will give them a run for their money.

Please I want to open a dollar Domiciliary account but I was requested to present 2 current account referee which I don't have embarassed embarassed, please does anyone have any idea how I can go about it since I don't have any referee. Thank you
Why don't you open UBA dollar card.
I did that. You don't need any referee. As a matter of fact, you don't need to open an account with UBA. They will just open the special dollar account for you with Visa card. You can either fund it by transferring naira into it which would be converted at prevailing parallel exchange rate or you buy dollars outside and fund it.

Going into value addition like @alakara stated is a safer option for one who is not on ground. From personal experience while working in several rural communities while in Nigeria, there are so much harvests left to waste.

One could go into processing and packaging for both the local and export market.
Bro, i will advise against that.
It is better to run a farm on proxy than to run a factory on proxy.
Factory requires day to day attention unlike farming.

Also, nigeria is not a serious country ready for manufacturing/production because we don't have regular power.
I am talking from experience. I am into vegetable oil production and i know what i faced from power to machine/mechanical faults and breakdowns.
Firstly, most towns don't have industrial areas - areas dedicated strictly for factories or companies where nearly 24hrs/3-phase electricity would be provided.
Industries and companies need 3-phase 33mw lines and not 11mw residential area power.
I know how many times i called nepa to come and fix my area light. It is either there is light but the 3 lines are not complete from the transformer (to the people staying in the area, they don't care since they can just remove their meter fuse and change to the line with power) but i cant. I need the complete 3 lines to drive my industrial machines.
I will call nepa to fix transformer issues that can take up to 10 days or 2 weeks before they respond. I have workers to pay on monthly basis whether there is light or not.
For me to break even, they is minimum tons they need to do per day but nepa fcking me up.
Should we talk about generators? - diesel cost, regular gen break-down and frustration from repairers? time delay/incompetency-try and error type of repairers? fake parts?
Should i talk about electric motors burning due to light not complete from transformers?
Or the milling machine itself?

Bro, i prefer farming far more than production.
Production is for the big boys with cash not someone just starting.

I am living abroad and have 2 farms in Nigeria.
You will lose money, they will not execute the work to plan but on the long run it is better to start while you are away.

I did not make profit so far but I now have assets that I can call my own. I bought 100 acres of land for my 2nd farm, that money would have long gone if not that I put it into the land. I now have tractors and other implements for farming. I would not have been able to acquire any of these if I have not started while still abroad.

Most importantly, I have learnt a lot. You learn everyday so the earlier you start the earlier you can learn.

In terms of people, using my relatives to manage my farms has turned out better than using the so called consultants.

You end up teaching the consultants what to do while they scheme on how to fleece you or use pictures of your farm to get more clients that they can fleece.

My advice, if you have a business you can do abroad, do that, if you don't have the time to run a business abroad then get a relative to run your farm in Nigeria, but don't hand it over to him, guide and coach him frequently.
So true bro.

Many times my wife has told me to shutdown the farm and focus on other biz we do but the truth is that the best time to learn is NOW
NOW when you are young, working and have the financial opportunity to make several mistakes you want to and learn.
When you are jobless or old or collected your gratuity after retirement, you don't have that luxury to make mistakes again at all.
The cash on you will be going down due to family daily spending and the business you are banking on will keep disappointing you because you haven't passed through the learning curve.
Most times, i see these retirees, sacked-jobless people diving into biz losing virtually all their money or savings and in no short time they were retired or sacked, they retire also into their graves due to cardiac-arrest, depression/suicide, HBP, slumping etc.
I may have made alot of mistakes. I may have lost some fortunes. While my colleagues are busy buying flashy cars, building nice apartments, wearing nice clothes, i am busy learning/experiencing first-hand real-time/real-live how to survive outside a paycheck or salary.
Those who didn't start today are only postponing their own doomsday because sooner or later, you will have to survive without a paycheck from others and if you think there is still time and you are still young, well it will shock you how fast time fly.
And once opportunity lost, can never be regained.
It is an opportunity to earn today, make full use of the opportunity.
BusinessRe: Legal Action Against MMM If I Failed To Recover My Money by emmaodet: 8:14am On Sep 11, 2022
Favibe16:
Of course you can sue them in Nigeria, and in any jurisdiction they do business or have assets. You probably have a 100% chance of getting judgment in your favor. The problem is after you get judgment, what next? They probably don't have attachable assets lying around anywhere in the world. It is not like suing ExxonMobil.
On the same topic, I read on another thread that bank employees are facing termination for steering peeps to MMM. If you can actually prove that a bank employee, at the premises of the bank, advised you to invest in MMM, then you might possibly have a colorable claim against the bank under the vicarious liability doctrine. I know this is a long shot considering the primitive state of tort laws in Nigeria, but then it is in actual litigation of grievances that the law evolves. A class action lawsuit here might actually serve a beneficial purpose of furthering consumer protection.
Hello bro.

How can i get intouch with you?
AgricultureRe: How Do You Manage Farm From Abroad? by emmaodet: 8:12am On Sep 11, 2022
Favibe16:
Well, I am abroad and has farm (Livestock and Plantain) in Nigeria. We have been going for about 18 months now, and I have to be honest and say that the experience has been far from what I thought. But, of course with every business, there is a learning curve, so I do not regret the experience the past 18 months and I am actually motivated to push forward. Frankly, I believe what I have learnt about the business is definitely worth whatever I could have lost due to poor management or dishonest employees. A lot of people will advice that you don't start because people cannot be honest in your absence. However they refuse to look at it from the perspective that when you are abroad, you are mostly likely working and making much more money than you are losing at your farm in Nigeria either due to poor management or dishonest employees. For example, I make at least 3mm naira every month (using 450 naira per dollar), my manager and employees will need to be highway robbers to defraud me of even half of that in any given month. So what is better?
Of course some will advise you to keep your money until you are ready to come back and setup, but everyone knows it is not easy to just keep money like that. And more importantly in staring even while you are still away, you learn some very valuable lessons. You learn that theories hardly translate into practice; you learn what people to trust or not, you learn some production and management; you find out what works and what doesn't; you learn about other aspects of the farming value chain you never even thought about (for example, dabbling into poultry has thought me about the opportunities in both farming and storing grains).
My advice to you is there is no better teacher than experience. The best time to go in is actually when you are still abroad and still able to make the money to help replace the losses due to the inevitable learning curve. You should focus more on constructing and expanding your facilities such as buildings and machinery and less on production. Trust me no matter how fraudulent a poultry manager is, he will most likely not sell your pen houses or your feed mill or your tractors, etc.
So seriously, give it a try if you have a passion for farming.
So s so true.

This is what am passing through and any time i think of quitting, i also think of first-hand learning and experiences am gaining that money can't buy and the more boldness and experience i get by the day.
My farm is just a fraction of what i invest. Even less than 10% of my annual income so it is worth all the experiences.
