Good day Sir, with reference to this your post, will it be advisable to get a new CSCS No and CHN when opening a second stockbroker account Or shld I still maintain my old Numbers(CSCS and CHN) in the new stockbrokers form?
It's advisable to maintain the old CHN but you will definitely have a new CSCS number. For any account you open in a particular firm, you will be given a new CSCS number it's only CHN that can be retained.

However, sometimes CSCS Plc disregard your request to retain a particular CHN. If that happens you can do a CHN merger thereafter and pick a particular CHN that all your account will be tied to irrespective of the stockbroking firm.

Look Well Before You Leap

At this uncertain time let’s beware of schemes that may want to take advantage of the low rate regime of Tbills to swindle us of our hard-earned money.
One major consideration in choosing any investment window at this time should be SAFETY of your capital/fund not the RATE.
It’s usually at a time like this when rates are low in the regular investment windows you begin to see some folks coming with unusual and juicy rates. Beware!

Here are some tips/questions to ask:

Is the investment firm regulated in anyway? ie regulated by SEC or CBN or any government constituted authority even if they are you can take your due diligence further to know preferably from SEC if they are aware of the said product.

What are the underlying assets?

How long has the firm be in business, what are their background and affiliates. It will not be a bad idea to know about their management and board members. A board member of questionable character or integrity may be a wrong signal no matter what they claim.

Is the rate being offer agreeing with economic realities

Is the rate per annum or otherwise? N.B: In all cases regulated rates are per annum even when having shorter tenors anything otherwise request explanation.

The list is not exhaustive you can go further as much as it will help you make informed investment decision and take calculated risk.

Currently at Investment One there are products you can try out apart from VGIF
1. High yield Investment note
2. Medium term investment note
3. Real estate backed note

In each of the products the minimum initial capital is 10m except the medium-term investment note which is 5m.
As usual call/chat me for details 08181057319 you can also PM or give me your email and details will be sent to you.
The above post is about a year old. Just a reminder on some things to consider before an investment choice.

Investor/investment is like marriage.
No two marriages are the same. Each family is unique even though every family wants to achieve same thing- happy home. Just the same way every investor wants good returns.
The method used, principles and time to apply it differs for each home to achieve a happy home. The same applies to investment or investors, strategy may differ but same aim – good returns.
Like marriage, each investor is unique. The aim is to get returns but the method and time to apply the principles differ. Hence, it’s always the case of know yourself. Understand what you want to go into and stick to what works for you.

Man know yourself
Some people bought dollars but make loses perhaps they bought and sold at the wrong time even though buying dollars is not wrong. Some people invested in stocks and make great profit others did same and got their fingers burnt yet stock market is a viable tool of investment and wealth building
Some people bought mutual funds and ended up losing their capital because they just bought but never knew equity mutual funds which never guaranteed capital nor returns existed, while others are enjoying the power of compound interest with their money market mutual funds.
Some invested in a business, and they are getting richer, but others did they are worse off than when they started and yet it’s business that keeps the world busy and lively. All this bore down to: man know yourself

Start Early!
So, man know yourself. Don’t rush. It’s not always a 120km/hr moving car that gets to destination earlier than 80km/hr moving car.
If you are embarking on a journey with a slow-moving vehicle, start your journey early you will still meet up instead of trying to catch up with a fast-moving vehicle the end might be disastrous.
Get and learn strategy that works for you and stick to it on your investment journey.

Happy new week!

A guy who sounded brilliant and smart was active on this thread about 2 to 3 years ago, he was against Treasury Bill and other portfolio Investments. He believed portfolio investors should invest in the real sector, he believed portfolio investors were under performing the expected returns they could get if they had invested in the real sector and other businesses.

The guy was a jack of all trades, master of none, he was into agriculture, health, real estate, MLM , Transportation, Haulage, forex trading, logistics, etc.

Thank God for contentment, wisdom, knowledge and information, members of this thread would have lost hundreds of millions of Naira to his proposed Agricultural ventures in Oyo and Osun states, real estate ventures in Ibeju Lekki axis and Ogun State.

Good day Gurus in the house,
Please I need your professional advice before I venture... Someone introduced Oxford Agrovest... She said their interest is 32% per annual.

Please what is your take sir/ma. I don't want to lose my capital even though I wants my capital to generate income.

Thanks in anticipation.
Some things to consider before investing:

Safety of your funds. No matter how juicy the rate seems if your capital is not safe your returns will be meaningless no matter how big.

Your risk apatite: If you are risk averse don't go into a risky venture you may not be able to cope if things go wrong. In investment you prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

Always note that higher the returns in most cases the higher the risk. Nothing is free. Everything has a price tag.

Do your due diligence and always remember past performers of an investment doesn't guaranteed future returns

Check if the institution is regulated by SEC and the product is registered.

Other considerations could be age, amount to invest, duration etc.

Hi All ,

Is there any here in nIgeria that process Dividend payment automatically.... I didn't recieve interim dividend on my Zenith shares and I was asked to filled a form and send it to the registrar for Dividend process ... This is quite different from what I do experience with my US stock
Automatic dividend payment is still work in progress by regulators and operators at the NGX; before that happens investors are to send a completed transfer form to their stockbrokers and send e- mandate to the registrars or complete the mandate online after two weeks of transfer form submission with that dividend will be paid automatically into your bank account.

sure but that mmf rate is below par.... I know quite a lot vgif, sfs, zimvest, fbn quest to mention a few.... But below par rates....
One major advice I give to intending investors is that the first thing to consider in any investment is the safety of your fund.
It's good to consider rate but have a higher rate and not sure of the safe return of capital is not good enough. In must cases the higher the rate the higher the risk.

MMF is still one of the safest way to keep your capital especially for risk averse investors. The interest and capital are guaranteed in MMF.

Abacus money market fund is good, rate is 7.73% as at yesterday and it's upward looking.

Please @emmasoft, why Abacus and not VGIF? Is it because of the 50k initial deposit for the latter or are there other hidden reasons? Merci beaucoup huh
Actually the two mutual funds are not in the same category. Abacus is a MMF while VGIF is in the fixed income category.

However, the reason I will pick Abacus right now is because the rate for Abacus 7.71% is higher than that of VGIF 4.5%, more so the MPC meeting left all parameters the same, that means the rate of VGIF cannot be changed since sdf is still the same but the rate of Abacus is still upward looking.

Even if you can’t get dollars right now, don’t leave your cash idle without investing it.
Cash left idle loses value faster than invested cash.
You can still invest in Abacus money market fund for risk averse investors and
some good fundamental stocks if you can take risk while waiting to get dollars.

hello, please i would like to ask if any one knows which of the banks gives a good rate for fixed deposit for 3months and 6 months. thanks
Most of the banks gives rate base on the amount and duration.

Fixed deposit is no longer popular. Money market fund is better.

Advantages of Money market fund:

No withholding tax (WHT)
Higher interest rate that can even be higher after investing,
Tenor determined by the investor
Investors are free to withdraw all or part of their money without any penalty after 30days
You can also top up with any amount at any interval.
Anyone can start investing with as low as N1,000.
Rates are not determined by amount and tenor. All funds get same interest irrespective of duration.

The period of redemption is different from that of MMF and it's based on the regulatory standard and the fund's processes. it's not as a result of incompetence or poor service. Thank you.
