^^^ Very interesting write-up. . .Pagan9ja, do you regard your god as equal with other gods from traditional beliefs? Do you think that all these other pagan gods exist in harmony with one another? i.e. not in opposition such as Jesus and Allah |
@ stillwater I was in dialogue with a pagan here on Nairaland and your statement reiterates what he said so I will revise my former comment and concede you are indeed right concerning traditional beliefs standing with culture however I still maintain faith is not hereditary . . we may inherit rites and practices but each individuals faith in God is personal. I used both words (faith and religion) interchangeably during much of the course of this topic which is an error on my part. I guess I was evaluating the relationship between religion and culture using my own background as a point of reference. I view Christianity as independent from my culture. . . .but I suppose I can consider certain traditional beliefs (pertaining to my ethnic group) as an attachment to my own culture. Plutarch:I mean I am not yet an accomplished woman, I still have some rungs on the ladder to climb so I'm only at the beginning. . .well I'm not a teenager anymore, I evolved recently ![]() |
as a friend of course ![]() as a husband . . .erm let's just say I'm most likely to narrow down my options when it reaches that stage. |
. . Est-ce que tu es nigerienne? Qu'est-ce que tu as étudié a la fac?Non, Je suis Nigérian. . .et toi? Je étudier l'art. . J'aime Google translate ![]() |
Plutarch:lol no I'm not married - I'm still at the early stage of life. |
I remember a conversation I had a long time ago with a Muslim male. I asked him many questions about Islam. I finally asked him if he was a Muslim because he was born into the religion, he more or less admitted that he was. I then asked him if he thought he would have been a christian if his parents were and he refused to answer. Now if he had arrived to such belief (Islam) independent of his parents I am sure he would have been confident enough to answer my question. |
stillwater:I believe culture is largely different from faith i.e. you can be a native Jew but not adhere to Judaism - culture is hereditary not faith. Culture is linear. Faith is personal. I cannot decide which family I'm born into but I can decide which religion I want to adopt. I can also decided to stop following a particular religion but I can never divorce myself from my inherited culture. The only similarities between these two is that a parent can teach a child their culture but you cannot necessarily instill in them pride the same way you can nurture your child in a religion but cannot ultimately instill in them faith. I used to observe the rites of Christianity i.e reading scriptures, praying + fasting. . .but that did nothing to increase my faith in God. If God granted us free will surely every child born into a religious home should be awarded that God-given right. Bawss1 explained it best when he said religious parents should first be an upstanding example of their faith so that when their child is wise enough to comprehend the magnitude of a particular religion they can thus "choose" of their own accord. |
MsDarkSkin:Lol exactly they can breed their blackness out of existence for all I care and have you noticed the men who are likely to complain about black women dating out are guilty of such themselves lol honestly. |
Yes, I why won't I feel jealous? All black women are my sisters, lol, I can't imagine the sight of a super-hot black woman getting pounded by a white man. It shouldn't happen because I think only black man deserves that, not dem white dudes.
Oh, so only the beautiful black women should be exclusive abi? |
coogar:What was the aim and result of his research if he wasn't trying to relay an outcome?. . .Granted "message" may have been the incorrect term employed (because I really can't claim to know this man's intention even though his findings allows particular groups to be marginalized.) It is certainly not "just a research". Many of these "just a research" have been done time and time again using different variables, demoting black men and/or women in the process. Thus when such analysis once again is brought to the forefront it reopens former sentiments and strengthens stereotypes. Furthermore it is further disappointing when so called educated people are behind such compilation that causes some people to get "hyper about it". you are very correct. some of these men will likely produce daughters that are less attractive provided the genes of the other partner(the black woman) is dominant. at least, according to darwin's theory - this is very possible.Oh so the existence of the wowo populace can now be firmly blamed on the black woman - na wa oh . . . well according to Darwin blacks are less evolved than whites so how much of his words shall we truly sieve through before we reach unbiased territory? Was it not the "less attractive" black women that carried you highly attractive black males in her womb. . . give your counterparts some credit, chai. If black women according to Dr Satoshi Kanazawa's research are indeed the least desired by men from other races why in effect should that matter? what does matter is that black men desire their women, *sigh* or are some black men now willing to join the camp that finds their counterpart "less attractive" than other women because black women are apparently not in vogue. . .would you evaluate us differently if the research carried different results? smallest brain and lowest iq is quite possible!Coogar, you do not have to deliberately oppose the point I was trying to make by effectively supporting racist notions about your own people (smh). If malnourished and impoverished people were the main reasons why Blacks (not only Africans) apparently have the lowest level of intelligence then how comes India (that carries more poor people than the continent of Africa) is not thus ranked aside or even lower than blacks? Intelligence is not determined by race, if you had argued that environment was a factor I could have taken your comment much more seriously. if his findings favoured you as a black woman, i doubt you would be this bothered.Oh I will confess. . . if he's "spastic research" favoured me as a black woman I would not have been bothered just in the same way I wasn't bothered when the details of his findings was first presented . . .in fact I would have still picked holes at it. Just because some research out there is likely to favour me doesn't mean I automatically embrace them without inspection and vice versa. Likewise I also wonder if you would have taken such reaserch seriously if black men were at the bottom of the totem pole hmmm, Coogar confess oh. if anyone tells you beauty is ultimately subjective then such person is not beautiful!Coogar, it is people that carry out such "beauty" research that are likely to be unattractive or shall I say "less attractive" - have you seen Kanazawa? ![]() Oh and it's people that adhere to such analysis that might not even consider themselves attractive until some skewed scientist concludes from "spastic research" that they are indeed attractive then such people thus carry those results as the gospel and suddenly believe they're gorgeous because some scientist's research said so. we can have a bit of ambiguity deciding who is more beautiful when judging 2 pretty women - but nobody in this world would choose whoopi goldberg ahead of genevieve nnaji - not even a blind man!*clears throat* Well it's rather appropriate that you mention Whoopi Goldberg because she serves to counter some of the OP's suggestion - that he hardly sees black women and white men together (in the media or otherwise) well . . . .here's a fine example (presented by coogar) to rebut those remarks. . . Whoopi may not be considered more attractive than Genevieve (well at least in yours and my opinion) but she's had her fair share of oyinbo meat ![]() |
coogar:Well I stand corrected then, at least now I feel vindicated in the knowledge that some Asian man's research concluded that black women aren't unattractive but less attractive on the whole. Least attractive of all races equals what exactly?. . .the ugliest (let's not use euphemisms to cushion his account) in the bunch so it doesn't dilute whatever message he was trying to relay. But thank goodness his research ranked Black men the highest in terms of desirability and Asian men the lowest to eliminate all doubt of bias whatsoever and for some black men to tell black women that the list is impartial thus no need to object - the sad irony is that some of these men will likely produce daughters which this man's research considers "less attractive" Coogar, so those who have also "researched" and claimed that Black people have the smallest brain and lowest IQ are not at all trying to say blacks are dumb but that blacks are the dumbest instead - how most certainly noble of them to render such a qualitative statement. the fact that genevieve is less attractive than halle berry does not make genevieve unattractive or ugly. There is no fact when it comes to beauty, maybe most popular/likely choice is how people measure beauty because it is also a "fact" that some find Genevieve to be more beautiful than Halle. facts and opinions are two different concepts. but trust black people to read it upside down and flash the race card."race card"? the man was trying to measure beauty/desirability of each race correlating to genders so when one of the variables in this "spastic research" is "race" I thus wonder how that subject could be made redundant when one decides to dissect the motive behind such pseudo experiment. . . .and lastly I don't need a research to inform me that Black men are indeed the most attractive males of all "races" when my personal thoughts are governed by such notion yet I understand my views doesn't necessarily correlate with that of my neighbours because beauty is ultimately subjective. |
sauer:la philosophie. Tu est une experte de la philosophie de Descartes?non, mais je suis un fan de Descartes |
coogar: ![]() claremont:I don't understand why people will adhere to clearly biased research which claims black woman are unattractive? First of all beauty is subjective so cannot be measured by science and why would some allow themselves to be dictated to by an Asian man of all people whether them or their counterparts are indeed desirable or not? Please let's just be wise because if we were to adhere to all these racial research apparently black people have less IQ or a smaller brain . . . why do many of these research usually reflect negatively on black people? People just want to justify their stereotypes. It's not everything in the name of science that must be swallowed without questioning. |
I have been in UK for quite a few years and any time I see interracial kids of black ancestry, it's their dads that are usually black. When you look at Black football players and celebrities, their wives and girlfriends are usually white. I have seen white men dating black women, but it's a rare occurrence. I have hardly seen a successful white man ( be it in Hollywood, sport or politics) that is engaged to a black woman. What could be the reasons? I personally feel one reason could be because it is only a black man that can effectively handle a black woman or maybe white men find black women unattractive compared to their white women.
Wait a minute. . .is there a competition between black women and black men to see who dates out of their "race" more? If black women do not date white men in high occurrence is that even a cause of concern or does the frequency in which a person dates outside their perimeter prove such a person to be desirable? I don't know maybe demographics plays a part i.e. there could be a higher concentration of white women but ultimately it boils down to choice because you could have also studied the situation from the other side and asked "or maybe black women find white men unattractive compared to black men" comparing dating patterns of men and women is slightly ambiguous because they both date for different reasons even within the same group. . . . anyway it's mainly to do with choice methinks. I'm just puzzled and I want comments and contribution. I have no qualms seeing black women date other races, in fact I'm happy seeing it. I only get jealous when she is super hot ( imagine the sight of Beyonce dating a white man), That is when I get jealous and angry, but still, it's cool by me.lol but why would you get jealous when she has no attachment to you? I really don't understand why some persons of the same "race" will jealous another stranger for dating their counterpart whom is likely to be anonymous to them. |

ekt bear's comments caused me to research slightly if there is truly a relationship between polygamy and population growth rates and I found some interesting info and here are some extracts: Some examinations considering the relationship between Polygamy and Population:- Contention 1: Polygamy allows for more rapid reproduction.http://www.debate.org/debates/Polygamy-is-morally-permissible./1/ *** Polygyny have been suspected to play a key role on fertility very early by demographers . . . . Indeed, women in a polygamous family may compete in the number of children they have becausehttp://congres.afse.fr/docs/2011/410307demographictransitionpolygamy.pdf *** In 2000, Russia's eccentric ultranationalist politician Vladimir Zhirinovsky proposed polygamy as a novel solution to the country's demographic crisis. The leader of the Liberal Democratic Party proposed the country's family code be amended to allow men to take up to five wives. More wives, Zhirinovsky reasoned, would mean more babies, and thus boost Russia's shrinking population. After a brief debate in parliament, his scheme was dismissed.http://www.rferl.org/content/article/1057238.html ^^^ Lol, I just found that incident mildly amusing. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ . . . .but of course there are various factors to consider still i.e. infant mortality rates which encourages more birth or the age of a spouse. |
Interesting article and some of the suggestions exchanged here are some of the top factors that affect population growth . . . Causes of Increase in Population:http://saif113sb.hubpages.com/hub/Causes-of-Increase-in-PopulatioN |
Guardian:Interesting policy but what if a couple that has the maximum number of children granted (which is two) yet one child dies in infancy or early in life, are they thus permitted to have another child - and not be taxed as their tally will still be within the required bracket? . . .and what if someone was pregnant with triplets, would the couple be taxed for one of the children born? Fhemmmy:I assumed there was a relationship between polygamy and population growth and that perhaps in a polygamous household more children were likely to be born than in a monogamous one. Having done a minimum research I believe there are quite some holes in that theory and other factors to still consider. |
Intriguing and informative. Nice one Johnie. I always wonder why some of these people feel they are invincible until they come to an untimely end. . . .the all-consuming nature of power. |
Nayah, I agree that internal African issues should primarily be dealt with and governed by a sole African body and not an external one who never judge (if at all) their own colleagues in the same likeness they do for Africans. Still just as ICC appears to be biased towards the West an African version may not fair any better ![]() That is all I will say on the matter. |
First of all unity should not be encouraged if the foundations are not clear. Nayah where would us Nigerians have fit into Ghadaffi's "united states of Africa" when he proposed for us to split? Yes Just because the West had a hand in his death doesn't suddenly make him an African hero or is it because he funded some African countries, well let's not forget this "Pan African hero" also sponsored some civil wars within Africa - is he thus a suitable candidate for "Africa Unite"? If people want unity the interest of every member should be clear because the same man who cried African unity suggested that the biggest African nation should split . . .how does that work or fit into his objectives of a United Sates of Africa? Destabilizing Nigeria is detrimental to Africa. And as a Nigerian I shall not stand alongside people who carry some malcontent for my nation or want to potentially threaten it whether they are fellow Africans or not. |

yoji:I agreed with everything you wrote save your last couple of lines. Do you think they are paying for Iraq's oil that they are milking? I am not one of those who harbours a grudge or irrational hate against the West. When the West's usual patterns is outlined by someone - it is not necessarily born out of hate. I am being cynical to tell you the truth. The West are not a sincere or neutral spectator in all of this and their hypocrisy stinks. When the same group of people gallivant around reiterating "democracy" "transparency" "freedom" and other political vocabulary of course they will pass under rigorous inspection. They were pallying with this " deluded dictator" not so long ago and when they fell out with Ghadaffi he automatically became a hindrance to democracy. Did they forget whilst they were shaking this "Mad man's" hands in those boardroom meetings and greasing their elbows that he was the "the World's longest serving dictator" I know Ghadaffi was no angel but why the sudden change in goal posts. . . oh let me guess na oil. Look at how Ghadaffi shut them out or manipulated them with what they were salivating over. I do not blame the West for our problems but like professional predators they certainly take advantage of them. They scurrying to congratulate Libya on their "new found democracy" could simply be translated as "sweet crude here we come". . . they don't pull the wool over my eyes I'm afraid. I am no Ghadaffi apologist but no one should be riding on their high horse here. This man's reign would have been longer if he had complied with the West. . . .*hint* *hint* Omar bongo *cough* |
I wonder if they were asked to smile ![]() |
namfav:Fair points and duly noted. |
I do not really have high hopes for Libya because I question if "new found democracy" is birthed by the barrel of a gun and I feel they will become slightly dependent on the West as they received some backing/support by them. Their next leader will be someone that the West is likely to favour. I think ultimately the West is the winner in this circumstance not the Libyan people. |

namfav:You have just highlighted some of the various reasons why I stated time and time again in this very thread that I am against X child policy. I agree with everything you said (maybe not the insecure bit) - that is why I was considering other alternatives that could be adopted to tackle the so called "population problem" (not my words) Nigeria apparently has without having to include X child policy as one of our solution. I do not agree with a parent borning one child when they are forced to. To answer your question I would not be happy to have one child especially if my right in the matter was taken away.
