While I would say I loved all the songs in this first album Mad Girl Love Song by Acrospire, the most haunting of them all is the single titled Sayonara , a lugubrious jazz tune running along with an eerie monologue which should have the hair standing on the back of your neck. What I loved most about Acrospire is the creativity and the novelty of what seems a new genre altogether , a fusion of pop, jazz and poetry , because indeed none of the songs in this album is sung but appear instead as poetry set to music, and the result has been quite fascinating. The title song Mad Girl Love Song is a more furious pace , but also is a sad song of sort. Heck all the songs are love songs , and to me all love songs are sad songs. I don't believe in love so please don't shoot me for this.

Cactus Town Crew is a group which reminds you of the times gone by, when music had a purpose. Listening to their music will quite certainly get you dancing or at least swinging your head from side to side. Very refined Afro beats with masterful injection of synths and effects. Pity there is little of a song , but hey this is dancing music.

I must confess the most horrendous attempt at musical innovation I have heard in a long time, belongs to a guy know as Terry Apala. Never heard of him? I guess you have like me been lucky so far. Well, he is this guy, who has hit upon an idea to borrow songs which have become popular on their own merit, and to create his own versions version in a hoarse palm wine and cheap smoke voice, to which the Apala music genre is typically associated.I have no idea what he is trying to do but to me it certainly is not working.
Otherwise, I hope he is simply a DJ looking to add humor to his gigs ; as a music artiste this won't get him far I am sure.

I said a few days ago that regular radio will soon be on its way out. As far as I am concened, why would anyone stick with a handful of unimaginative local FM stations while there are hundreds out there begging to be heard ? At the best, local radio may eventually become the succour for people who cannot afford a decent internet data plan, and probably unable to afford to buy any music even if the DJ plays it back to back for an entire week. So what is the point of putting your promotion money on local FM stations?

There was once a time when you could be sure that the music you hear on radio represented the best on and off the music charts. A time when radio stations actually paid musicians to play their songs. Maybe they still do in many pats of the world, but in Nigeria if a song gets palyed on radio you can be sure that the musician has paid money for the privilege.. And thus in an era of the most unimaginative and brainless music, radio becomes a tool of torture for the discerning music lover .
The greatest loser is the art itself, because good music with no pocket to back it up consequently dies a sorrowfil death, while the air continues to be filled with the hideous noise of musicians who would anywhere else in the world be considered less than of average talent, only they locally have money to buy themselves a lot of fame. I am astounded that these radio OAPs can't fit it into their heads that their future rests in the hands of new talent rather than of their own greed.

I baited Beat City Radio very recently to ask what it would take to have a good song by a remarkably good artist played, and I received the following response :

News report reaching Nigeria Politics Online confirms that Media giant, Television Continental (TVC) might have relieved 145 workers from its workforce.
It was gathered that reporters of the company located in various States in Nigeria all arrived the headquarters situated at Magodo area of Lagos yesterday, June 1st.

According to the CEO, the mass retrench of workers became imperative because the stations are not commercially viable.


The management might have sacked 145 staff of the media house.

There are indications also that TVC Africa has been rested for inability to break even, financially.

This, it was learnt, was the outcome of Friday’s town hall meeting with the Chief Exevutive Officer.

He said TVC Nigeria and Radio are not making enough money to cater for TVC Africa.

Both the TV and radio stations are owned by former Governor of Lagos State and National Leader of All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
