I've personally noticed something peculiar to the Redeemed Christian church of God which I am not comfortable with. The Bible warns that we should not give chance for people to question our faith our unity in the body of Christ. In other churches, like deeper life, chosen, mountain on fire etc state and regional pastorship have always been of people of different tribes as the case may be,

But it's not so with in Redeemed Christian Church of God were MOST (not ALL about (86%)). of their regional / state pastors are most Yoruba's in almost every state in nigeria. Is it that the people mostly trusted to be Good pastors to handle that PARTICULAR POSITION are from one particular tribe? This is what is happening currently in our Government. Please, constructive criticism no tribalism.

When I entered Dubai last 2 months, this guys had a stand in the airport, asking if I was a Nigerian so I could attend a seminar on real estate in Dubai. I almost attended but thank God I changed my mind last minute. These people do not only entices Nigerians to invest in Dubai properties and forces them to make payments, they don't disclose all the terms until you have made first installment making it hard for you to back down, and when you can no longer service those payments the company seizes their money.

Now I know why most Nigerians buying properties in Dubai end up stealing from public purse.

whatever you have put upthere does not correspond with the argument. The fact that it's a different country does not in anyway make it foreign investment. Now, HP is an American brand but manufactures some of its computer systems in China with china's resources and then exports to other countries generating forex and strengthening china's currency... that's foreign investment. What this company leaving Nigeria does is simply retail. We need to get this clear. When likes of lifemate furnitures leave , some will say we have lost foreign investment but tell me, how many of our own made resources are being used in the production of those furnitures.

On November 5, 2015 Tanzania swore into office a new President. Coincidentally he is also a John.

John Magufuli is doing what has been termed the “Rwandanisation of Tanzania”. If you dont know about what Paul Kagame has done with Rwanda make Google your friend.

Here are some of the things John Magufuli has done already in LESS THAN A MONTH. Not in 3 or 6 years, one month. He’s shown a clear commitment to walk the talk but not to talk and talk and talk and talk more like we do here:

1. Soon after his election, Magufuli declared there would be no celebration of Independence Day on 9 December because it would be “shameful” to spend huge sums of money on the celebrations when people were dying of cholera. Instead, the day has been set as a national day of cleanliness, and the money will go toward street¬cleaning services. He has said everybody should pick up their tools and clean their backyards.

2. After his first official visit to the Muhimbili Hospital, and seeing the horrible state it was in, he ordered over 200 million shillings marked for “parliament parties” be used to pay for beds for people lying on the floor and sharing beds.

A few days later 300 beds were delivered. He dismissed the governing board and got a new team in place, and within days the broken MRI was fixed. He also pared down his inauguration party from $100,000 to $7,000 and sent the extra money to the hospital.

3. Three days into his term, Magufuli announced a ban on all foreign travel by government officials. They have been instructed to instead make regular visits to rural areas to learn and help solve problems facing everyday Tanzanians. All tasks that required officials to travel abroad would instead be done by high commissioners and ambassadors who are already in place.

4. He has restricted all first¬ and business class travel to government officials, except the president, vice¬president and prime minister.

5. There will be no more workshops and seminars in expensive hotels when there are so many ministry board rooms available.

6. He suspended the Tanzania Revenue Authority’s chief and other officials pending investigations after a visit by Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa to the port of Dar es Salaam found 350 containers listed in its books were missing.

7. When he had to travel 600km to Dodoma, from Dar, to officially open parliament last week, he didn’t order a private jet – instead, he chose to drive.

8. At the National Assembly in Dodoma last week he clearly sent out the message that it will not be business as usual under his leadership.

9. He promised to cut public spending, fight corruption and enhance accountability in public service. He said it is time for Tanzanians to walk the talk.

10. Magufuli reportedly told parliamentary leaders that the people of Tanzania want him to solve their problems and not make speeches.

Angelique Kidjo is a very soulful singer. Out of all her work, the hit song “Agolo” from her AYE album quite stands out to me. Much of the Yoruba lyrics is like a love song - a ballad about the importance of letting the world be bound together by love. The melodic chorus gives more power to the rendition. But I am sure these days nobody really gives a damn about what the chorus mean as long as the music remains dance-able.

Those of us who grew up on nights of folktales at the feet of parents, uncles and aunties could still be familiar with the story behind this one. Oh, well old age and the ravages of life may have robbed some of these memories. I remember that I thought initially to include the story in my book of Yoruba folktales – The Kini-Kini Bird and more Yoruba Folktales, but I think I dropped it because there were already a couple of similar stories in the anthology. I may well include it in a future compilation. Nevertheless when researching The Foofoo Tree and more Efik Folktales I did observe that that a similar story existed in Efik folklore , and which did include in that volume. In any case, let me at this time dwell on the Yoruba instance of the story abridged as follows.
Olajumoke was very vain girl, who spurned the advances of all the hard-working young men in the town, and never listened to her mother. One day she went to market as usual and there met the most handsome man she had ever seen in her life, and obviously was a stranger from another town. She resolved that this would be the man she would spend her life with, and would follow him to the end of the world. Her mother pleaded with her not to takes such a rash decision, but she turned a deaf ear and vowed to follow her newly-found lover. This she urgently did even in spite of repeated admonishment by the strange man to turn back and return home.
Alas, the handsome stranger was from the land of evil spirits; who before coming to this market in the country of human beings had borrowed body part from several vendors along the way. And as he progressed back home he returned the parts to the owners - legs, arms, body, head until all that remained was just an ugly bare skull. At this point it was no more possible for the petrified Olajumoke to return home, and thus she became wife to the skull.
In any case she still resolved in her mind to run away. However , the skull has placed a tortoise to watch over Olajumoke all day whenever it goes to the farm. And whenever Olajumoke thought she had an opportunity to escape, the tortoise would raise the song which we are now quite newly familiar with:

Ori, ori o , Olajumoke nlo

Which Translates :
Skull, Skull. Olajumoke is running away !

At which the Skull will hasten back home to prevent his wife from escaping. This went on for several months and perhaps years. But one day Olajumoke experienced an encounter with Wisdom. She made friend with the tell-tale tortoise whom she then made a great meal of ekuru (steamed bean pudding), which she knew was the tortoise’s favourite food . While the tortoise feasted greedily, Olajumoke fled. But this time, because the tortoise had its mouth full it was unable to sing the song to alert the skull that Olajumoke was fleeing. And that was how Olajumoke was able to return home to her mother, now quite contrite.

I have always, as a folklorist, asked: where did those tales come from? Most had indeed been handed down to the current storyteller as a child in the same way that we had also received them as raptly attentive children. I would imagine that sometimes the story are so old that the storyteller, no more able to remember how it originally went, would add embellishments of his own crafting, and sometimes in such a proportion that an entirely different story is consequently produced. I confess that I have myself sometimes, appropriated such creative license while retelling long lost stories to a children audience.

Why are these stories told? As in every part of the world, the Yoruba folktales would generally derive from the daily experience of a people, their environment, their predominant occupations, their aspirations and of course their moral rules. Indeed as an academic discipline, folklore shares methods, and insights with literature, anthropology, art, music, history, linguistics, philosophy, and mythology. I say people, even though
, I must also add that the story belongs more to the storyteller rather than to the community. Depending therefore on the immediate disposition of the storyteller, stories can end up funny, fascinating, ridiculous or thought-provoking, . The constant purpose of the typical Yoruba folktale often remains to teach young children important lessons about wholesome values. We should read more folktales to our children than we permit them watch television. Indeed, much of the Old Testament tales of the Bible derive largely from Hebrew folktales, whether we want to believe that or not.
Now folklore is not about what happened hundreds or thousands of years ago ; it is also about contemporary events and encounters . For example, even though completely unrelated, I see the story of Olajumoke , the Lagos bread seller who became a popular icon as an unfolding folktale. Young ambitious girl meets with a monster called Fame and resolves to follow it to the end of the world. But as time goes on, will she find fame divested of all the fine parts and reveal at last in its prime ugliness ? And will Olajumoke be able to return home (to sanity) if she finds a great mistake has been made along the way somewhere ? Indeed the monster called Fame never lets go of anyone nicely – it imprisons and destroys and it is only the wise that knows when to escape its brightly-lit lair and flee back home. Such is the stuff that folktales are made of.

Please let me explain to those of us who don't understand Economic terms. Dollar has not increased since Buhari became president

1. Dollar is not our currency so dollar should not be our business

2. Our problem is not d government but
our problem is our importers and consumers

3. Naira has remained at 197 naira to 1 dollar since Buhari became president

4. Buhari has promised not to devalue the Naira and he has maintained that promise

5. Both at CBN and at interbank rates,
dollar has remained 197

6. However because we are too lazy to produce what we use in Nigeria we import even toothpicks and matches

7. Buhari does not like d importation of luxury goods because luxury goods is d reason for most corruption, that is why he banned 41 products from having access to forex

8. However when Nigerian importers insisted on importing those 41
products, FG asked them to find their dollar at d BDCs parallel market also known as black market

9. And to discourage the pressure Nigerians are mounting on the Naira just to get dollars for importation, CBN banned DMBs from selling dollars to BDCs

10. To survive the pressure of excess
dollar demands, BDCs resorted to sourcing for dollars from neighbouring countries through illicit money laundering routes

11. Because of the risks faced by BDCs to source for dollars, and because of the increase in demand for dollars by importers because China just resumed from their business holidays, BDCs keep increasing the price at which they exchange dollars to naira and now it is 400 Naira to 1 dollars

12. However that does not mean
that govt has changed the exchange rate because if our genuine importers go to CBN and fill Form M to import raw materials for local production, they will get dollars at 197 naira each

13. So the problem is that we love to consume luxury foreign products yet we are too lazy to manufacture them here.

14. For example u will see a dull girl using
iPhone 5 without even knowing simple physics and computer engineering part of how that phone was produced

15. I want Buhari to ban every foreign
product from Nigeria until Nigerians learn to produce and use Made in Nigeria products

16. Let us stop complaining about dollar as if dollar has become Nigeria's currency

17. It is even bad enough that most of those complaining about the high exchange rate of dollar do not have 1 single dollar in their purse.

THE naira gained about 30 per cent on Wednesday against the dollar at the parallel market to trade between N250 and N280 from N364 at which it sold on Tuesday ending two weeks of free fall when it peaked at N403 against the greenback at the parallel market last week Thursday.

The local currency had begun a gradual recovery on Friday, firmed sharply at the parallel market yesterday as retail traders, having anticipated a cut in its official rate and stocked up on dollars, bought the local currency back after the government said it would not devalue.

The naira rate closed at N197.50 on Wednesday at the official interbank market, where the CBN limits introduced late last year to defend a currency peg have restricted access to dollars.

That has funnelled demand for dollars on to the parallel market, a flow further fuelled by speculation of a possible weakening of the peg.

The Acting President of the Association of Bureau de Change of Nigeria (ABCON), Aminu Gwadabe, said the market was reacting to President Muhammadu Buhari’s ‘no devaluation’ stance.

He, however, expressed ABCON’s support for President Buhari not to allow further devaluation of the naira.
Gwadabe, who said the association was in partnership with the authorities to step up efforts to rid the market of illegal currency traders stated: “Like the President indicated recently, since the only significant thing we export is crude oil, devaluation will do more harm to the economy than good. So we also say no to further devaluation of the naira!” he stated.

He also affirmed ABCON’s backing to ensure its members comply with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s regulation as well as operate within the approved margin of 3.5 per cent with the hope that the demand and supply situation would improve to restore calm and stability in the market.

Hmmm... Personally, i kind of believe in their existence, haven't encounter such before but heard stories about them. What baffles me most is that some Nigerians do shower their misfortune on witches and wizards. Is appalling. For instance, a friend of mine hardly reads, when final results were out, he failed happily. And i was, "guy, you fail bad bad oo..". He was like, " ehn ehn na, na the witches for my village dey pursue me so". I was like WHAT?? Anyways, do you believe in their existence? If yes, kindly share your experience.

I don't know if it's only me that have been experiencing this unprecedented excessive increase in general temperature. Heat just too much abeg!
I end up bathing up to 8 times in just a day even at midnights. There's currently scarcity of normal cold water for bathing in my area; all the taps,pumps and tanks around produce HOT water without anybody boiling them

Just last night I was about to suffocate, even the fan was producing very hot air and I couldn't take it no more. As I tried to lay outside at the balcony I nearly melted; the damn floor has not gotten rid of the afternoon's sun yet. The floor was smoking, I had to improvise then. I filled a bucket with the usual hot water and then brought out 3 sachet water that I had earlier left in the freezer to block. I tore out the sachets entirely and put the bare blocks in my bucket of water (drastic times call for drastic measures) . After some minutes I carried the bucket to the bathroom, took off my already sweat-soaked boxers and as I splashed the water on my body, Lo and behold I just heard the exact sound akara balls make when it's being thrown into hot oil ; I got all fresh again and decided not use the towel so that the refreshing feeling can last a while longer. To my dismay, I got to my wardrobe, searched a few seconds for another boxers, put it on. Then as I raised my head up, I got the feeling of something rushing down my bare back.. (God save me from karashika)

Nwanne I had to improvise again. I changed the position of mattress in a way it's adjacent to the refrigerator. I opened the refrigerator wide open and slept with my head stuck in it.

This morning, it was the sound of the boiling egusi soup I had in the freezer that woke me up. The ice in the freezer had melted and the egusi was having great fun inside the bowl even trying to throw the cover over. As I opened the bowl and interrupted it's little party, it was very unforgiven and threw back at me the most horrible stench I've ever perceived in lifetime. My rich soup has soured!!

Please nairalanders how are your areas let me know if I will have to relocate; and who do we blame for this ??
