One of the toughest choices for any informed car buyer. For me, accidented cars make it as long as i know where the impact was from and to what extent the car was damaged. The truth about high mileage cars is that their internal parts may be nearing the end of their life cycle and the new user will then be saddled with changing one worn part after another. If your case is worse enough and you buy a car which the previous owner was not a meticulous user who services the unit regularly and doesn't change the parts as recommended by the manufacturer, then you can be sure that your period of ownership will be fraught with unpleasant stories and expenses. In all, a buyer should be properly made to be aware of what he is buying into and necessary situations painted clearly for him/her. But to ensure peace of mind, please save up enough and buy a clean title vehicle. 1 Like |

As i have always believed, threads like this have their divisive tendencies and they have not been in short here. I look at all the arguments and i despair that this generation is still being made to tow the destructive line of generations past. What we see in Onitsha, if we can harness out arguments properly, will be a wake up call to governments to be up to task on their responsibilities. That said, i do not think that Peter Obi has failed as a governor but i am not sure he has met our expectations as a people in need of development. I say this given where we are coming from. I am dead sure most of us here weren't at the last elections in the state but as usual, stay at far off places and wait for things to fall in place. What i think Mr. Obi is suffering from is limited knowledge of what it takes to develop a state and -maybe- exposure. This is not leaving out the mischief and outright inefficiency of politicians as he has gradually evolved into one. An Ngige would have taken up the enugu - onitsha highway and fixed it. What however pains me most in our attitude as ndi Anambra is our tendency to be selfish with our opportunities. Three instances will suffice; Ukpabi Asika, the Governor of the old Eastern region once said, 'he whose pear gets done should please lick'. Andy Uba was close to Obasanjo for 6 years with next to nothing to show for it yet he wants to govern Anambra State. Peter Obi has been gallivanting in and out of Aso rock with the PDP government and the President with no improvement in Federal infrastructure in Anambra State. These are just few instances of a growing malaise with the average Anambra man who wants to be seen and hailed as being connected to the right people and persons but maybe with no benefits of that connection accruing to those he wants to impress. Everyone must come to him to get what he wants. This is sad and backward!! Why am I pointing this out, we can all scream about what the civil war and marginalisation has done to us, but if we can't look inward and assess ourselves properly, then we are going to achieve very little even when we get what we deserve from the center. Heaven helps those that help themselves. Now on the business side, i am well aware as have been said here of the undying spirit of the average Igbo man. The progress of his neighbour is a motivator and he will do everything possible to make it. But like Aribisala pointed out, one man businesses don't take you anywhere. You will remain a distribution pipe for the main manufacturer. I am working on a market expansion plan for a company dealing in spices that started in Onitsha and i could see that one-man business mentality of traders. It is one thing i have been encouraging my trader friends to discard as they grow. We will remain traders if we continue in that way. Stories of the likes of Innocent Chukwuma, Cletus Ibeto, Cosmos Maduka, Emma Bishop Okonkwo etc. people who had no formal education, started as traders in Onitsha but had the vision of growth and expansion, should serve as case studies to upcoming traders on what they should aspire to. Gradually, Onitsha is the craddle for brands like Coscharis, Ekulo, Innoson and Ibeto. As for Peter Obi, i am waiting for 2014 to quickly arrive because i can't stand the growing degeneration of things he did well in the first tenure and the ones Ngige did. I hate to admit it, but mediocrity has defined our governments so far; Ezeife, Mbadinuju, Ngige and now Obi. Build roads, equip school labs, pay pensioners, construct boreholes (unrealistic and unsustainable source of water for a modern city), distribute cars to security agencies and then mouth off democracy dividends. Meanwhile a huge, multi-billion dollar industry is waiting for the right catalyst to explode. Economic policies and political will to implement them is what we need. Proper regional planning to open up and expand the cities in Anambra is yet to be implemented. But like i pointed out, this is basically the same with cities in states created from 1991. The older cities were planned by Europeans. I want to see what we as Africans can achieve. Good job Spyder, i am loving your posts. But importantly, let's keep the arguments healthy. I feel Onitsha, for all the revenue it generates for Anambra govt, has not been given priority development. This is the same for Awka and Nnewi which are, to my reckoning, glorified villages. Nothing has gone into planning these cities, decongesting the central areas and pushing development to virgin locations Anambra deserves more than it's getting. Our trader governor has only done what he understands governance to be. It doesn't end with building roads and equipping schools. Exposure and experience is not a thing to be taken lightly. We boast of the skills and resources to make the best cities in the world. I bet you, Onitsha is even better off now. Imagine as it were in past administrations. All things being equal, i think we will get it right. The good thing is that this administration has set standards. No one can go lower and have it cool with ndi Anambra. I also think that poor development of critical cities are synonymous with states created in and after 1991; in no particular order Abia, Anambra, Kogi, Ebonyi, Bayelsa, Osun, Ekiti to mention a few. I don't think, as things stand in these cities, some of which i have passed through, they are any better than glorified villages. Spyder, please post the pictures as it. What Anambrarians like me will now have to do is to post pictures of other parts of Awka and Anambra in general With this, we can then make a better, holistic assessment and judgement because for all i know, Onitsha is not the true picture of Anambra state. But that's about the first city a first time visitor to Anambra by road, will see. |

Unfortunately, that doesn't hold for Nigeria where some other things more than functionality seems to be the driving force behind purchase decision. What will happen then is that people will most likely switch to other brands. It is already happening now. Honda Accord EOD is benefiting from the Honda design goof. More of it are on the roads now and accord sells faster than any car now. This is going to be the norm, i predict, till the Big for Nothing goes out of fashion completely. |

Bizzy, I will choose the 01 as well but this time, based on what i know and see. The 01 is more compact and fuller even though scanty if you look at it critically. But the 02-06 , NAH!!! As per continuing with production, i doubt if Toyota could done anything about it Discontinuing with a build makes for a broad statement of failure. Again, Toyota being what it is will sell. It is a durable car, last long and has that Toyota badge of quality but at this time, people are assessing based on emotional values than practical issues Aesthetics over durability. Bad for Toyota, there is a durable alternative. |

Bizzy, been a while. Hope you are good? On the topic, the basic turn off for the Big for Nothing is the obesity The name came up as a result of its size with a boring interior. Nigerians as much as they like Toyota hate boring cars. BFN is bad arse boring!!!  there are also red flags on suspensions and shock of the car and again its unappealing design and build. It's basically a unit for the senior citizens. Old man uses one and i just suits him. If i wanna do this, i do rather do the shapeless but 'buttonized' and pepped up ES series. More power, more aesthetics, sleeker build and of course, luxury. Dare not compare them both. As a matter of fact, if i will drive a toyota, it has to be on V6 engine. They are too light for my liking to run it on I4 On the market issue, i think the EOD still outsells the Camry up till now. The market moves in phases. It was the 1997 - 2002 Camry that reigned supreme given the Accord gear issues But the EOD is staging a come back, no thanks to the wacky design of same generation Camry as the EOD |

yungboss: emperor, u know the maximum speed of that avalon is 209km/h, how come i beat you in my 2.0 6cyl, yours is a 3.0 v6...at 200, you should begin to feel the aerodynamic drift, slight power loss cos its limited to 209km/hLol! Wasn't me your were chasing oh. The Avalon can do up to 220km. . . . at 200, the drift u stated started and then i started perceiving some burn smell likely coming from the tires. I tried checking through the website with the vessel name and it's showing no results. can you pls enlighten me on how to go about it cuz my own car will soon be shipped from the US.OP Now, here's what to do when you need to know which vessel and and arrival time; Every shipping line has a website and on it, shipping schedules are listed according to trade lines. Trade lines are basically, shipping routes. That is; Europe to West Africa, USA to West Africa, Asia to Europe etc etc. Under the trade routes or shipping routes, choose North America to West Africa or USA to West Africa as the case may be. Once u do so, it will load a pdf file for you listing the vessels under it, their departure and arrival time as the case may be With this, you know when it left and when it is arriving. The same goes for container tracking just that this time, you user container number You can't track vessels by by trying to know their exact location at every point in time. Here we go; go to; http://grimaldi.co.uk/ Once the front page opens, on the menu bar, u will see trade lines. Put your cursor on it and it drops down. U will see series of headings, put ur cursor on schedules and choose USA-West Africa. Click on it and it opens this link http://www.b2b.grimaldi.co.uk/webdata/sched_nw.htm From there, trace the name of the vessel as is on the BOL with corresponding Voyage number From there, u can see departure time and its various stop overs. U will see Lagos as well. From that schedule ETA for Lagos is 28/7 - not far from 29th - 30th as quoted by Femmy2010. Hope this helps. He was involved in a fatal car crash earlier this year returning to Abuja from Enugu. A truck rammed into him from behind, hitting him onto on coming traffic (single lane)at Kwale a few kilometers to Abuja. On coming trailer knocked him into the bush nearby. Front and rear passenger died on the spot. My friend was barely out of the car before the unit burst into flames!! God knows best!! |

I am getting increasingly disgusted with our penchant to disobeying simple rules without any cogent reason. Nairaland auto section used to be an amalgamation of car sales and discussions on car issues, problems and auto related questions. But before we knew it, dealers and sellers swallowed meaningful, helpful auto discussions with their wares and FOR SALE threads. It was in a bid to keep these two important threads apart that some of us including yours sincerely clamoured for a separate thread for the discussion of car issues and problems. While the auto section has been left for the sellers and dealers. But it is disgusting to note that dealers and sellers are now encroaching on this thread! This is utterly annoying! Can the car dealers amongst us please stick to the sales thread created for them? This is an SOS to the Mods and Super Mod. I have done series of reporting and nothing seems to have been done. Please don't allow these guys mess up this thread. Seun, Muki et al, please take note.
