Sorry to derail your thread.I posted this message in February this year. I did not get any response from anyone. As it is now it is very urgent that I get an expert advice before proceeding on this issue.

[b]I have urgent need for an advice from the Auto Buffs here. I have a 2002 TOYOTA TACOMA Automatic Transmission which I have just been informed have issues with the Reverse gear which has stopped working.
It is a long story but I will keep it short, this vehicle is being driven by my brother since I do not live in Nigeria. It was bought at around 158,000 miles last year. It has around 180,000 miles since my brother due to the nature of his job was always doing intercity trips with the pickup.
His idea of service for the vehicle is just to change the engine oil every month and even after warning him several times he still continued doing this. I had a feeling the transmission fluid probably is down and this may have caused the issue. However, I do not know much about vehicles myself and will need your advice on the way out.
Do we need to change the transmission to manual as some mechanics have advised him? This I am not interested in as I do not like driving manual vehicle since I drive the same vehicle whenever I am in Naija myself.
If the issue is the transmission, what do you advised I do? Is it repairable or do we need to change it completely. Your candid advice would be much appreciated.

mobuch: Hello, I would advise u heed ur mechanic's advise and remove it. Thermostat was designed by the manufacturers for use in very cold regions, so as to keep the  occupants warm. Here in nigeria, we live in a hot climate so we don't need it. Leaving the thermostat in ur car could lead to ur car overheating in traffic jam.

I had this same issue with the car I recently acquired, my temperature guage wz always at the middle due to the thermostat,n there wasn't traffic jam. As soon as my mechanic removed it, my temperature guage hardly rises except when I use the A|C, and with the A\C, it only stays at a 1 level below the middle guage

Siena: I don't use my handbrake unless I'm parked up. Even on a hill or incline with Manual, I've got enough clutch control not to roll forwards or backwards. With Auto / Tiptronic, I simply use my foot brake.

It has happened to my wife's Sienna (05) airbags before. The steering was replaced and the dash was not replaced. I had to argue with them for a while because the dash ought to have been changed and it would take me like 60 days to get the dash down to 9ja. My wife would have non of that.

The steering was replaced, dash reset, sensors replaced, airbags ECU was reset at Agidigbi, Ikeja.

The whole thing worked perfect. How did i know? My in-law crashed the van and all the airbags deployed. Well, we sold it - it's bad-luck van. Is it not?

Siena: I think you're getting things the wrong way round, Emperoh. Deployed airbags CAN'T be refitted. I believe you mean replace the deployed units with ones that haven't deployed?

You'll need the steering wheel crash pad (the middle part) and a new dash / fascia. You'll also need both crash sensors. These are located either side of the chassis frames at the front, behind and below the headlamps. The ECM (located on the transmission tunnel, behind the centre console) may need to be replaced, unless the crash data stored can be erased.

Depending on the version, some coding may be required.

bolseas: I was heading towards a ditch, because i was avoiding a woman and her son who were going to church. my uncle started screaming "te brake, te brake" meaning match brake, match brake. and i replied "mi o ri brake, mi o ri brake"ofcourse i found the brake after landing in the ditch. we got help to bring out the car and my uncle insisted i continue driving until we get home. after parking the car, i dint go near it again. so scary.

BizBooks: Yes, indeed you're correct. I was referring to one of the cars you posted for sale. Kudos for
owning up to it. However, in providing the VIN, it occurred to me that you may not be aware
of the history of the car. Obviously if you did, you may not have released the VIN. That's
exactly why most Sellers on Nairaland do not include VINs in their ads even under the threat
of been banned or having the ad deleted.

Most salvage cars are repaired here in the US before being shipped to Nigeria. There are
mechanics here (mostly from Mexico) who are experts in fixing accidented cars. They fix the
cars in such a way that makes it difficult for one to tell the car has been involved in an
accident merely by looking at it. That's why I encourage everybody to run a VIN report before
buying a car. Even if the Seller did not include the VIN in his Nairaland ad, make sure you
get it from him one way or the other. If he is not willing to give it to you, simply walk
away. He is hiding something sinister.

Anambra is barely 20yrs old and Peter Obi has done more holistical development than any governor in Nigeria. You dont know the kind of foundation for massive development this man is setting up in Anambra. All the eastern governors respect Obi. He has connected every single town in Anambra by road,renovated and built numerous health intitutions,massive educational reform,incorperated all Anambra towns union into his government,robustly boosted Anambra farmers,increased teachers salary,built a new secratariat,fixed numerious erosion sites and many more. If you regret being an Anambrarian then you are not a true "Omanbala blood" !

Met the boss of Henreich who said he called his officers at the office to ask anyone who parked where i parked to remove the car as the towing
guys where coming. Unfortunately i didn't hear and fell victim.
I guess he had a boy he works with within them who directed to another guy at their office at the old ACB building.
I met the guy and got a lower ticket for 10k. paid at UBA and took my car back!

Uju, i am from Obeledu which is just a border town to Akwaeze, along the same long road
We are Anaocha not Idemili. Obi's town; Agulu is also Anaocha. The Commissioner for works is also from Obeledu
and if you are familiar with the route, that road passed thru the Commissioner's house.

On your position of envying Enugu, i won't for the life of me give up being an Anambrarian.
Despite our developmental position as it is now, i know that with the intellectual resources we have, we will get there one day.
Also, i grew up in Enugu and know that most of the businesses and development in Enugu have Anambra people at the heart of it. I dare say 40 percent or more
Now, imagine if we get our plans right and begin to force these people to come to Awka and environs to build.
Remember also that Enugu has the antecedence of being the colonial headquarters of South East hence was and is still a melting pot for all Igbos;
the closest is Owerri.

All we need is a governor who is more of a professional than a trader that Obi is and will use his wealth of experience to plan Awka, Nnewi and Onitsha.
To be sincere with you, i expected so much from Obi. I guess that's why some of my kind are somehow laid back with the nonsense he is doing.
It further goes to my age long belief that Second tenure breeds impunity. But i must admit that he has done quite much and better than all other governors before him. Of utmost relevance to me is the road network across all towns and villages.

But what we need are plans and structures that will keep our tangible and intangible assets in Anambra. We have gone past that stage of just building roads and bridges and equipping school and health centers.
I can't wait for 2014 to come!

Above all, i love Enugu city like mad! The serenity it gives me whenever i come around is classless!!
But Anambra boy till i die!!
