rockiedink: Nice list of cars...the Volvos are legendary for safety and reliability. Just that our mechanics here don't seem to know jack about the brand...who represents Volvo in Naija by the way?I am keeping out the German guys for obvious reasons. Upper class. I am looking at something one can compare with the mainstream Toyota and Honda. For Ford, a couple of reliability issues made me tarry a bit until i am sure they have got it right. A foremost multinational drug manufacturer with office in Nigeria is changing their fleet to Mitsubishi from Ford cos of reliability and cost of maintenance. Not to say they are not good enough but i guess they might have their reasons. Ford Mondeo? Are they still being produced? I used one and sold it almost immediately. It was a decent car. Saab? I will read them up in terms of spares. Suzuki should also go up there. The Grand Vitara is every where in Nigeria. I even sold one to a sister last year. Fhemmmy: ^^^ Those are nice rides you have up there.I am trying to make some clients and Nigerians see beyond the Honda/Toyota hullabaloo. I am glad people are gradually keying into the Kia and Hyundai brands I read amazing facts about the Mazda Miller Cycle engine and couldn't stop asking why the apathy in Naija and these are pretty cheap compared to their mates in Honda and Toyota. But let's see. Hyundai designs are something else this year. |

Looking at all the comments, i trust the guy who set up this thread woulda been more confused after reading this!! OP follow ur heart and maintain ur call VERY WELL @Fhemmy, lately, i have been looking at "unpopular" car models and i am being tempted to give one of them a shot. Here's my picks lately, Hyundai Sonata, Kia Optima, Mazda 6, CX7 and CX9, Volvo S80 and S60, XC90, Mitsubishi Lancer EX, Subaru Outback. I have also been making mental pictures of those i will see more on the roads to be able to arrive at a decision/ This weekend, or any other time i am more chanced, i do go to ladipo spare parts market to enquire on the parts/ Any other car u wanna add to that list?  |

Poster; The difference is not much but in pricing. Just as we buy from Europe and USA so do the dealers there buy their. We get junks there as we also have in Nigeria. The same goes for clean cars. However, the difference in pricing lies in a couple of factors; 1. Cost of Cotonou port clearing is cheaper than tincan 2. Seme clearing makes it costlier but most dealers will skip this and fly your car in 3. Excahnge rate of Naira to the CFA is also a deciding factor. Whichever way you go, ensure that you get what u pay for and that the appropriate duty is paid where necessary |

Poster, Haven't been to USA but all my on-line auto purchases have been with one experience with Nigerians or the other. Nigerians are reputed to control the price of Toyota and Honda in ANY auto sales auction. I just pray that any time i set up to bid, one craze person doesn't show up from anywhere, but in most cases, that has been my lot. Unfortunately, cars now cost much more than they should. If u still want to get good cars, you either settle for the Korean braneds, mazda, nissan or mitsubishi or u buy american cars. The moment u step into Honda and Toyota, be ready to pay for an over-valued car unless u are lucky |

Whatever the English guys lose in flair they gain in technique with regards to the good ones amongst them. Will attribute Rooney's brilliance and technique to media hype? If they are shooting, they shoot it with some format to it. Not everyone can Where i know they lack a lot is the issue of dribble and flair. But not all Spanish players are endowed in that region. Everyone has been given what to survive on, make the best use of it. Develop it and be the best at it. I do rather ascribe what is today in football to the demands for result rather than the need to entertain. We the fans are gradually tuning our mentality to obey that belief. Before i deviate, i do still maintain Rooney has the talents to do what he is already doing and needn't go anywhere |

Coogar, That doesn't guarantee anything going abroad at a young age. I am one of the strong believers of the fact that every country offers something. If England wants to offer anything to footie, they should develop their 'headless chicken' football. For all we know, Spain was effectively undone by Italy's tact and technique despite all their build up play. U need to find what works for you rather than copy anyone who walks past u with an attractive insignia. Football today is more of result than entertainment. That is why we enjoy two games featuring two sides with different technique. For me, Rooney needn't go anywhere. Man U is a diverse team with different nationalities bring something to the table. Fergie used English players all through to play flair, fast and entertaining football. Think of Giggsy's runs? Beckham's kick. Sheringham's poaching and sniper techniques, Schole's pin point passing Gary's tenacity and i can go on. The English side are unique. What they gain in club football they lose in National team just as Germans gain in national footie and lose prominence in club footie. Until two years ago, Spain were perennial under-achievers with all their play, talent and finesse. So what is it? |

Outside the 7 that played the UCL final, 2 others in Khedira and Ozil play in Spain So that freshness thing is lame. But ultimately, Germans fare better in their national colours than club sides so what other reason do we look for? Their organization is akin to their engineering. Precision! |

Coogar, I wonder how that idea has changed the tactical awareness and positioning of a player like Owen or Bryan Robson in his days, mark hughes and those English lads that have played outside England especially in Spain. Players are built in certain form and just as governments are different, so are styles of play different. Whatever works for you. You needn't adopt one style because it seems to be working for a certain sect of the continent than others. Italy has won the UCL and it wasn't particularly as a result of tactical awareness or spatial intelligence. Same goes to Germany and Portugal. Spain has their style and it is working for them cos they have practised it to near perfection. Hence, if English players are top draw in speed and physical football and are using it to win continental trophies, will Spanish players suddenly want to adopt the English style? Rooney needn't go anywhere. If we so crave such kind of players, we can go to Europe and buy them. I am not particularly a fan of the English style of play but that is what have made some of their club sides. I wonder if you will ascribe the same style issue to Real madrid? Wasn't it the same positional intelligence CQ neutralised to near perfection in the 2008 UCL quarters against Barca? |

DaRapture: Mazda is owned by Ford. All Mazda's from 2000 up are basically Fords with a twist to give them a unique look for Mazda brand.Not any more dude. Ford's investment in Mazda as of today is not more than 3 percent. They had as much as 33.4 percent controlling stake until 2010 when they sold it off as a result of restructuring after the global melt down caught up with them. |

Three things I doff my for in a Mazda is one rugged, fuel consumption and cheaper spare parts compared to other japs. Infact a decent mechanic can handle it just like d peugeot of old. I am making dis assumption based on 2002 Mazda 626 my partner uses. Absolutely no issues except for a gear system issue which was as a result of flooding. D issue being experienced now as caused by a quack mechanic who messed up d car. The car has done Lagos to Awka/Enugu at least 12 times. In d past two yrs. Ur best bet could be the later model Suzuki Grand Vitara or newer Acura MDX if u can afford it. D suzuki cos of its rugged nature and sizeable engine to match. U won't go wrong with the MDX as well as it gives smaller size but maximum luxury package. Also consider the following Ford Escape and Ford Edge, Mitsubishi Outlander, Chevrolet Uplander and Nissan Rogue(not so strong imo). |
