THE DAILY FOUNTAIN
DAILY DEVOTIONAL OF THE
CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)
DATE: FRIDAY, MARCH 14, 2025
TOPIC: BELIEVERS AS SALT AND LIGHT OF THE EARTH
READ: MATTHEW 5:13-16 (NKJV)

5:13. " You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.
5:14. "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
5:15. "Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all [who are] in the house.
5:16. "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

THE MESSAGE:

Jesus taught his disciples that they are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. Today, the world is filled with wickedness, brutality, immorality, corruption and disasters, and this has made the world tasteless and full of darkness. At one time or the other, we must experience these works of the devil and feel distressed. However, we must remember that Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil, so He has invested His nature and power in believers to salvage this evil world. This is why salt and light are used as metaphors to describe how believers are expected to live in the world. While salt serves as a flavour, enhancer and preservative, light on the other hand gives direction and exposes danger points to be avoided.

In the same manner, believers must showcase God's glory in their little corners. We should give flavour to and preserve the world by our character so that life generally will be meaningful. We must also help to bring out the good flavour in the life of others. As light, we must give direction and expose ungodly behaviour. When we do not produce godly effect on the world, we become like salt that has lost its flavour and has become good for nothing (verse 13). Let us therefore be challenged to be salt and light to the world in need.

PRAYER: Father; I need Your grace to serve as salt and light to the world. Amen!

THE DAILY FOUNTAIN
DAILY DEVOTIONAL OF THE
CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)
DATE: THURSDAY, MARCH 13, 2025
TOPIC: THE BELIEVER AND PERSECUTION
READ: MATTHEW 5:10-12 (NKJV)

5:10. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
5:11. "Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake.
5:12. "Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great [is] your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

THE MESSAGE:

Persecution for the believer is part of the Christian race. It involves hardship or suffering on account of professing or living the Christian life. But this type of suffering is not because of zeal without knowledge, or careless and sinful lifestyles. Christians should therefore not feel embarrassed or hurt when they suffer persecution. Persecution is painful, but the comfort is that the Bible says, “Such are blessed” (verses 11-12). Jesus Christ our Lord and the godly men of old; like Jeremiah, Stephen, John, Paul, etc., experienced different kinds of persecution. Some, like Stephen, even lost their lives, which was not in vain, because he made heaven (Acts 7:54-60).

Persecution is also an experience we cannot avoid, Jesus said, “If they persecuted me, they will persecute you” (John 15:20). Brethren, if persecution is not an elective course for believers, then must rejoice and be exceedingly glad (Matthew 5:12); endure persecution (1 Corinthians 4:12); bless those who persecute you (Romans 12:14), pray always (1 Thessalonians 5:17), always attend Christian fellowships (Hebrews 10:25), etc. Persecution though painful, cannot dislodge us from the love of God in Christ Jesus, if we have the right attitude and lifestyle. Again, the Holy Spirit is always available to help and comfort us in all situations. Let us therefore look unto Jesus for victory and eternal reward.

PRAYER: Father; please help me to overcome every persecution that may come my way. Amen!

THE DAILY FOUNTAIN
DAILY DEVOTIONAL OF THE
CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)
DATE: TUESDAY, MARCH 11, 2025
TOPIC: JESUS OUR HEALER
READ:MATTHEW 4:23-25 (NKJV)

4:23. And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people.
4:24. Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them.
4:25. Great multitudes followed Him -- from Galilee, and [from] Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan.

THE MESSAGE:

The ministry of Jesus Christ is characterised by preaching and teaching the good news of the kingdom, healing the sick, casting out demons, reaveling God's plans, etc. Today's text shows us how He healed every disease and sickness. All through the scripture , we see that there is no disease/sickness that Jesus cannot heal. He is our healer and this ministry of His has not changed - He is the same yesterday, today and forever! He committed this ministry to His disciples, and to us today as believers.

The Great Commission in Mark 16:15-18 empowers His followers and guarantees them signs that would accompany their evangelism. One of such is “they will lay their hands on the sick and they will recover." These days, we have seen serious cases like cancer, blindness and infertility being healed in the name of Jesus. We need to exercise faith in His name and lay hands on the sick - He is the one who will do the healing. We, like the Syrians in today's text, should bring our sick people to hHm for healing. Are you sick? Lay hands on yourself and rebuke that sickness by faith with the promise of healing in His word (Isaiah 53: 4-5; Jeremiah 30: 17a). Remember that healing is the children's bread and every genuine Christian is God's child.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, please heal me of every physical and spiritual disease in Jesus' name, Amen!

THE DAILY FOUNTAIN DEVOTIONAL CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)

DATE: MONDAY, 10TH MARCH, 2025

THEME: FOLLOW ME
TEXT: MATTHEW 4: 12-22 (NKJV)
4:12. Now when Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, He departed to Galilee.
4:13. And leaving Nazareth, He came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the regions of Zebulun and Naphtali,
4:14. that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying:
4:15. "The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, [By] the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles:
4:16. The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death Light has dawned."
4:17. From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."
4:18. And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.
4:19. Then He said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men."
4:20. They immediately left [their] nets and followed Him.
4:21. Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James [the son] of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them,
4:22. and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.

MESSAGE:

We thank God that the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, has declared this decade for strategic disciple-making. This programme is very important to our Saviour, Jesus Christ. In today's passage, we discover that after the forty days fasting and prayer, Jesus began his ministry of making disciples. He began by calling men to follow him, so that He would make them fishers of men (disciple makers) (v.19; Mk. 3:13). The response of these fellows is worthy of note (vv. 20-22)- they immediately left everything - boat, net, father, business etc., - and followed Jesus (Mk. 10: 28, Lk. 9: 23). They knew the cost of discipleship and they willingly, promptly and cheerfully paid the price. They considered that what they found was greater than what they had been doing.

One condition that makes disciple-making possible is the willingness of the potential disciple to follow (Lk. 14: 26-27). Note: 'If anyone comes to me and does not "hate" his father, mother, wife, children, even his life, he cannot be my disciple.' The disciple must follow Jesus as He leads. He must drop whatever will be a hindrance to the call. On the other hand, a disciple maker must himself be a disciple made by Jesus himself (v.19). There must be evidence that he himself changed his life because of his contact with Jesus; this must be part of his message of salvation (Acts 4: 13 & 18: 25).

PRAYER:
Dear Father, please give me the compassion and commitment to win lost souls, Amen!

THE DAILY FOUNTAIN
DAILY DEVOTIONAL OF THE
CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)
DATE: SUNDAY, MARCH 09, 2025
(Lent 1)
TOPIC: TRIAL
READ: JAMES 1:2-19 (NKJV)

1:2. My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials,
1:3. knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.
1:4. But let patience have [its] perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
1:5. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
1:6. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.
1:7. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;
1:8. [he is] a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
1:9. Let the lowly brother glory in his exaltation,
1:10. but the rich in his humiliation, because as a flower of the field he will pass away.
1:11. For no sooner has the sun risen with a burning heat than it withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beautiful appearance perishes. So the rich man also will fade away in his pursuits.
1:12. Blessed [is] the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.
1:13. Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.
1:14. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.
1:15. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.
1:16. Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren.
1:17. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.
1:18. Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures.
1:19. So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;

THE MESSAGE:

Another condition closely related to temptation is trial. The advanced English Dictionary defines trial as the act of testing something. Students after receiving a course of instruction are given tests, or examination to measure their level of understanding and internalisation of what they have been taught. The result of the test determines those to be promoted to the next class, and those to repeat the class. This means that test is not a punishment, though highly dreaded by students. Those who work hard will always look forward to tests because it is on the basis of such tests that they are promoted.

In today's passage, James admonishes believers to count it pure joy whenever they face many kinds of trials (verse 2) because these trials will lead to their promotion. They will develop great Christian virtues such as perseverance and maturity (verse 3) thereby winning the crown of life (verse 12). These trials could be lack or even riches (verses 9-11). We must learn to be patient when we go through trial. It gives opportunity to examine ourselves, and to also develop spiritual muscles to fight battles. Great testimonies are products of trials, if we are victorious.

PRAYER: Pray for yourself and for all those undergoing trials of their faith.

THE DAILY FOUNTAIN
DAILY DEVOTIONAL OF THE
CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)
DATE: SATURDAY, MARCH 08, 2025
TOPIC: LOVE NOT THE WORLD
READ: MATTHEW 4:8-11 (NKJV)

4:8. Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.
4:9. And he said to Him, "All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me."
4:10. Then Jesus said to him, "Away with you, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.' "
4:11. Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.

THE MESSAGE:

In today's passage, we see the devil promising Christ worldly kingdoms and glories, if He would only bow and worship him. He used the word 'only' as if his request has no negative implications. To bow and worship Satan means that Jesus would acknowledge him as God. In return, Jesus would take the simple path to getting the world by not suffering on the cross.

This deception of the enemy still exists - to give man the glories of the world, if man will worship him! He uses his agents to lure men and women desirous of employment, riches etc., into secret societies, sexual immorality with seemingly simple demands. After a while, the captive will regrettably realise that he/she is no more in control of his/her soul and actions. Remember these scriptures: 'Love not the world, or the things thereof. The love of God is not in any man that loveth the world' (1 John 2:15). Friendship with the world is enmity with God (James 4:4-6). The love of money is the root of all evil (1 Timothy 6:9). Beloved, as the temptation to get rich quick erodes the world, coupled with hardship, remember that your soul is more precious than the whole earth. So guard your soul diligently. The pathway to the cross is rough but leads to glory. Selecting the easier option of sin results in eternal damnation. You can only conquer through giving your life to Christ and becoming versed in Scripture.

PRAYER: Pray for the Church and believers against lust for materialism.
