THE DAILY FOUNTAIN
DAILY DEVOTIONAL OF THE
THE CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)
DATE: SUNDAY, JANUARY 26, 2025
(Epiphany III)
TOPIC: WALK IN THE LIGHT
READ: 1 JOHN 1:1-7 (NKJV)

1:1. That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life --
1:2. the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us --
1:3. that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship [is] with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.
1:4. And these things we write to you that your joy may be full.
1:5. This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.
1:6. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
1:7. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

THE MESSAGE:

Jesus Christ is the eternal God, and He became a real man whom John and His fellow apostles saw, heard, and touched. John's words have the weight of an eyewitness. Our text today affirms that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all. In John 8:12, Jesus declares Himself the Light of the world. This means that anyone still in darkness has not truly experienced Jesus - the Light. As darkness cannot exist with light so sinful things can have no partnership with God. God expects believers to shine forth His light in a dark world. That is why, in Matthew 5:14, we are reminded to let our light so shine before men, so that they may see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven.

When we walk in the light, we will maintain sweet fellowship with the Lord, though there may be many enticements to sin and darkness. It is very disheartening that many claim to be Christians, and even bear Christian names, yet exhibit the works of darkness. As believers, we need to shine forth the light of Christ everywhere - at home, in politics, in the marketplace, or in business.

PRAYER: Help me, Lord, to daily reflect Your light wherever I go from today, Amen!

*THE DAILY FOUNTAIN DEVOTIONAL.* CHURCH OF NIGERIA _(ANGLICAN COMMUNION)_

*DATE:* FRIDAY, 24TH JANUARY, 2025 *THEME:* IT PAYS TO BE RIGHTEOUS

*TEXT:* ISAIAH 3: 1-11 _*(NKJV)*_

3:1. For behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, Takes away from Jerusalem and from Judah The stock and the store, The whole supply of bread and the whole supply of water;
3:2. The mighty man and the man of war, The judge and the prophet, And the diviner and the elder;
3:3. The captain of fifty and the honorable man, The counselor and the skillful artisan, And the expert enchanter.
3:4. "I will give children [to be] their princes, And babes shall rule over them.
3:5. The people will be oppressed, Every one by another and every one by his neighbor; The child will be insolent toward the elder, And the base toward the honorable."
3:6. When a man takes hold of his brother In the house of his father, [saying,] "You have clothing; You be our ruler, And [let] these ruins [be] under your power,"
3:7. In that day he will protest, saying, "I cannot cure [your] ills, For in my house [is] neither food nor clothing; Do not make me a ruler of the people."
3:8. For Jerusalem stumbled, And Judah is fallen, Because their tongue and their doings [Are] against the LORD, To provoke the eyes of His glory.
3:9. The look on their countenance witnesses against them, And they declare their sin as Sodom; They do not hide [it.] Woe to their soul! For they have brought evil upon themselves.
3:10. " Say to the righteous that [it shall be] well [with them,] For they shall eat the fruit of their doings.
3:11. Woe to the wicked! [It shall be] ill [with him,] For the reward of his hands shall be given him.

*MESSAGE:*

Today's text contains very distressing images of the woes upon Jerusalem. It paints a picture of a nation deeply plagued and desolate. The tragedy of Judah's open sinfulness and lack of trust in God would result in war, with the loss of men in battle. God would remove all the men of importance from Judah and Jerusalem. After they were gone, those left behind would turn on each other for survival, trying to convince anyone with the slightest advantage to be their leader. These are images that we can relate to in light of what we may be going through in our nation today. There is so much destruction in families and individual lives. Peace seems elusive with mankind heading towards self-destruction.

Refreshingly, the certainty of God's covenant to keep the righteous is reinforced (v.10). It is inspiring to know that no matter what happens; God is committed to defending and preserving his own. The keeper of Israel will neither sleep nor slumber. He watches over you. Psalm 46 affirms that "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." As the world keeps changing and things get tougher, let us find rest in the one who will forever remain changeless.

*PRAYER:*
Lord, You will keep him in perfect peace, whose heart is stayed on Thee. Keep me safe in Jesus' name, _*Amen!*_

*QUOTE FOR THE DAY*
God Says:

_"My love will persevere through every situation."_ *1 Corinthians 13: 4-7*

Anglican Daily Fountain Devotional for Today January 23, 2025

TOPIC: A DAY OF RECKONING

✝️📖TEXT: Isaiah 2:12-22(NKJV)
2:12. For the day of the LORD of hosts [Shall come] upon everything proud and lofty, Upon everything lifted up -- And it shall be brought low --
2:13. Upon all the cedars of Lebanon [that are] high and lifted up, And upon all the oaks of Bashan;
2:14. Upon all the high mountains, And upon all the hills [that are] lifted up;
2:15. Upon every high tower, And upon every fortified wall;
2:16. Upon all the ships of Tarshish, And upon all the beautiful sloops.
2:17. The loftiness of man shall be bowed down, And the haughtiness of men shall be brought low; The LORD alone will be exalted in that day,
2:18. But the idols He shall utterly abolish.
2:19. They shall go into the holes of the rocks, And into the caves of the earth, From the terror of the LORD And the glory of His majesty, When He arises to shake the earth mightily.
2:20. In that day a man will cast away his idols of silver And his idols of gold, Which they made, [each] for himself to worship, To the moles and bats,
2:21. To go into the clefts of the rocks, And into the crags of the rugged rocks, From the terror of the LORD And the glory of His majesty, When He arises to shake the earth mightily.
2:22. Sever yourselves from such a man, Whose breath [is] in his nostrils; For of what account is he?

✝️📜STUDY: Israel and Judah had always hoped for the time when God would give them victory over all their enemies. Isaiah warned them that before God would act against their enemies, He would act against them. All the things they proudly trusted in for security, whether natural resources, defence fortifications, or prosperous trade, would be destroyed. Arrogance, self-confidence, or devotion to idols will not save them. On the day of God's judgement, people will see the worthlessness and uselessness of putting confidence in the things they trusted in. They will flee in a last, desperate effort for safety. Sometimes, it seems as though those who do evil and rebel against God in pride and arrogance are getting away with their actions (Psalm 73:2-3;Habakkuk 1:2-4). The arrogant may tell themselves they have won and will never be brought down (Psalm 10:11; 115:2); they seem to be winning. However, Isaiah assures us that sin may seem to pay off, at first, but there will always be consequences. Are there things in your life that make you glory in the flesh? Remember that when the day of the Lord comes, every form of pride will be destroyed. A man of pride will not stand before the Lord. Humble yourself under the mighty hand of God, so that he will lift you up in due season.

✝️🙏PRAYER: O Lord, please give me grace to humble myself before you, Amen!

THE DAILY FOUNTAIN
DAILY DEVOTIONAL OF THE
CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)
DATE: WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 22, 2025
TOPIC: THE DAY OF THE LORD
READ: ISAIAH 2:1-11 (NKJV)

2:1. The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
2:2. Now it shall come to pass in the latter days [That] the mountain of the LORD's house Shall be established on the top of the mountains, And shall be exalted above the hills; And all nations shall flow to it.
2:3. Many people shall come and say, "Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, To the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths." For out of Zion shall go forth the law, And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
2:4. He shall judge between the nations, And rebuke many people; They shall beat their swords into plowshares, And their spears into pruning hooks; Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, Neither shall they learn war anymore.
2:5. O house of Jacob, come and let us walk In the light of the LORD.
2:6. For You have forsaken Your people, the house of Jacob, Because they are filled with eastern ways; They [are] soothsayers like the Philistines, And they are pleased with the children of foreigners.
2:7. Their land is also full of silver and gold, And there is no end to their treasures; Their land is also full of horses, And there is no end to their chariots.
2:8. Their land is also full of idols; They worship the work of their own hands, That which their own fingers have made.
2:9. People bow down, And each man humbles himself; Therefore do not forgive them.
2:10. Enter into the rock, and hide in the dust, From the terror of the LORD And the glory of His majesty.
2:11. The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, The haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, And the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.

THE MESSAGE:

The people of Judah followed the idolatrous practices of other nations instead of leading those nations to God. They spent much energy building up their wealth and increasing their fighting forces. Because they proudly trusted in their own achievements rather than in God, Isaiah prophesied that a day of judgement from the Lord for the people of Judah was coming. It was a day in which God would make good on his promise to hold accountable all who had rejected Him by continuing to live in evil and sin. The result would be the end of human arrogance in Israel as they would be humbled and defeated. The Lord, however, would be exalted. The splendour of His glory would be evident to all who had failed to see it. The Lord's cause and purpose would be victorious.

The Lord has set a day when He will establish His kingdom, the New Jerusalem. Revelation 21 depicts the glorious fulfilment of this prophecy in the New Jerusalem, where only those whose names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life will be allowed to enter. God's covenant with His people will not fail; His faithfulness gives hope for the future. Are you ready and prepared for it?

PRAYER: O Lord, help me to be prepared for Your return, Amen!

THE DAILY FOUNTAIN
DAILY DEVOTIONAL OF THE
CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)
DATE: TUESDAY, JANUARY 21, 2025
TOPIC: HOPE FOR RESTORATION
READ: ISAIAH 1:18-31 (NKJV)

1:18. " Come now, and let us reason together," Says the LORD, "Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool.
1:19. If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land;
1:20. But if you refuse and rebel, You shall be devoured by the sword"; For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.
1:21. How the faithful city has become a harlot! It was full of justice; Righteousness lodged in it, But now murderers.
1:22. Your silver has become dross, Your wine mixed with water.
1:23. Your princes [are] rebellious, And companions of thieves; Everyone loves bribes, And follows after rewards. They do not defend the fatherless, Nor does the cause of the widow come before them.
1:24. Therefore the Lord says, The LORD of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel, "Ah, I will rid Myself of My adversaries, And take vengeance on My enemies.
1:25. I will turn My hand against you, And thoroughly purge away your dross, And take away all your alloy.
1:26. I will restore your judges as at the first, And your counselors as at the beginning. Afterward you shall be called the city of righteousness, the faithful city."
1:27. Zion shall be redeemed with justice, And her penitents with righteousness.
1:28. The destruction of transgressors and of sinners [shall be] together, And those who forsake the LORD shall be consumed.
1:29. For they shall be ashamed of the terebinth trees Which you have desired; And you shall be embarrassed because of the gardens Which you have chosen.
1:30. For you shall be as a terebinth whose leaf fades, And as a garden that has no water.
1:31. The strong shall be as tinder, And the work of it as a spark; Both will burn together, And no one shall quench [them.]

THE MESSAGE:

One of the attributes of our God is mercy (Psalm 103:, and He does not wish that any sinner will perish. In the preceding verses of our text, God's anger burned against the people, but in today's text, He extends His mercy to them. Prophet Isaiah likened the actions of his people to harlotry. The tragedy was that many participated in this evil practice; even the rulers put on a religious pretence to cover up their crimes. But God promised to take vengeance on them. Isaiah did not stop with the diagnosis of their sin - he gave a prescription for righteousness: if they would cleanse themselves by repenting and turning from their sin, then God would wipe their record clean in response to their faith. Though they were in danger of judgement, God was willing to offer them salvation if they repented. God promised to refine His people the same way metal is purged with lye in a smelting pot.

When we return to the Lord sincerely, He will also restore us (verses 21-27). Sometimes, people find it hard to stop doing the wrong things, but then, we cannotheal ourselves. The restoration we seek can only occur in a relationship with the living God. If we are willing and obedient to His instructions, God will remove the stains of sin from our lives so that we might reflect His image.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, I return to You. Please forgive and restore me, Amen!
