You know it is possible to live without either the man or the woman being 'in charge' or 'the head'. Lots of people live as equal partners and discuss and negotiate things between them perfectly well. It's not the case that women want to take over. They just want to be equal. It's very simple. A marriage isn't a boat so why talk of captains? You might as well say 'a football team needs 11 players' so 11 people should be married together. Not relevant. (In any case, you get female boat captains, lol). If you want to live your life in a traditional relationship, that's fine. But there's nothing wrong with other people who don't. Not everyone has to live their lives or run their marriages in the same way as you. |
She died owing $3million in taxes owing on money taken from their 'activities' and TV evangelism- good riddence to a thief and conwoman! |
Hello, me too ![]() I am English and in a 4 year relationship with a Nigerian (Yoruba) man. It's not always easy as our cultures are so different and it would be nice to talk to someone else in the same situation, as I don't know anyone. It certainly keeps life interesting though ![]() |
Hi, Anyone wanting to understand more about the UK, its people, culture and customs should take a look at this site: http://www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/customs/questions/. Don't be put off by the fact that it has been created by a school - it's excellent! You can find everything from English slang, to odd customs, to manners and expected behaviour in different situations, to info on tourist sites, passports, types of housing, you name it really! |
It was nice of you to help the neighbours ![]() those other men are strange! |
Ha! Those are all quite easy sounds for a westerner. For a reall challenge I want to hear her sing something with 'gb' in it! No chance! |
That's disgusting. Can't you say something to embarrass them? Like: sorry, but I wouldn't let my daughter marry someone the same age as her grandfather! |
I guess it depends on the family. I live with my Nigerian boyfriend and his family are all very nice to me. They don't seem to have a problem with us. How would strangers know if you were married or not? |
A lot of people have both. Sometimes a buggy is best and sometimes a carrier is, (until the baby gets heavy!). Some buggies are really big and bulky but they are not all like that. You can get very small light ones too. |
Lucky she said yes after all that! ![]() I'm confused though - what's with all the visiting people with letters before he proposes? |
What difference does the weather make? |
Bedos - three real sponsors is better than one fake one! Especially as two of your sponsors are universities offering you scholarships. I would think your position is stronger than someone with a letter from a single relative. |
I know of a white garment church that was set up after its founder wandered into a forest for several days and hallucinated about animals talking to him! That's the official founding story of the church. , some people are just nuts. |
You are not alone in this. I've known people who go to church and belong to a religion even though they have no belief in God. They do it as they like belonging to that community and want their children to go to the church school etc. I don't think there is a word for it. You are following the lifestyle not the religion. Hypocrite perhaps? ![]() Social Christian? Lifestyle Christian? - have you looked at the unitarian church? That sounds like it would suit you as it is a church, yet it accepts people of all sorts of faiths, and even those without faiths, who are interested in the issues of how to live a good life etc. |
No, pretty much anyone can get married in a church of England church. A lot of non-Christians do it. |
You'd better wait until Brad Pitt or Denzil Washington ask you to marry them. |
That older sister is just jealous and should be ignored. What a silly idea. Suppose the older sister never marries - does she think that the younger sister should wait forever? |
Freelance, don't tell us you imagine that story is a true one? If so , where did it happen, when, and prove it. If not, what's your point? One of the main reasons I think religion is a waste of time is that, like anything else, it just goes through fashions. There have been hundreds and probably thousands of different religions in the world. Christianity is big now, but it came into existance only recently, and it'll be overtaken by something else. Same as all current religions. Not one has ever endured. If there was a god or gods - don't you think he/she/it could be clear and just have one religion, with one message? How can you assume that Christianity is 'real' and yet the Hindu gods don't exist. The Hindus believe their gods are real and that the Christian one doesn't exist. The ancient Greeks had their gods. So did the Romans. so did the Axtecs. So did the Vikings. So did every culture, but now all their gods are just stories to us now, but they were 100% 'real' to the people then. All religions come into being and then die out. atheists just see this and understand that there isn't a final actual religious 'reality' at all. Current religions are no different to the ancient dead ones in the level of belief from their followers. A real deity would make its mind up about what it was and how it wanted to be worshiped, and would be able to communicate this effectively to all people. |
I think a lot of people moving to the UK live in large towns and cities and yes, they can be very unfriendly places. If you lived in a village or a small town then you'd find it much friendlier and with much more of a community feeling. I don't know all my neighbours but I know some of them. We do help each other out. The lock on my front door broke recently and I couldn't get back into my house and I ended up with 4 of my neighbours all trying to help me. On the other hand, my Nigerian boyfriend says it's nice to live somewhere where people don't feel they can interfere in your life all the time! ![]() |
I'm only a size 5 so he would have to have small feet for a man ![]() |
I was reading an article in the newspaper today by a woman whose husband starting hitting her after they'd been married for 15 years! Never did it before then suddenly he turned mean. It took her several years to leave him as she just couldn't quite believe what was happening and was too embarrassed to tell anyone and get help. Why do men do these things? |
Marriage wasn't intended to be a life-sentence of misery! She needs to talk to her husband and see if he will change. If not, well, what option does she have. Should she stay there and teach her children that it's ok to treat women like rubbish? |
What does liposuction have to do with your argument that white people just envy/hate black people? .P.S. white people do have melanin you know - our skin isn't transparent! Just not as much. |
That does sound nice. Thanks everyone. Any more suggestions? any recipes for the sauce? |
Yes, I would mind a lot! You don't have to go to these places to buy handbags. Does he say you aren't allowed to go with him? I'd be very suspicious. It's not a problem for couples to take separate holidays if there is a good reason for it. I go away twice a year without my boyfriend. Why? because one is a working holiday (camping in tents, working in the countryside all day) that I've been doing every year for 20 years but he is not interested in coming along to. The other is a weekend away at a music festival with my friends that we've been doing for years before I met him. He has been invited but again, he doesn't want to come. He knows where I am and what I am doing and why he isn't there with me. But this situation is so different. There is no reason why he should go alone. |
I think most mothers love their kids more than their husbands. That doesn't mean that they love their husbands any less than they ever did. Love is not like a cake where there is only so much to go round and if you give one person a big slice, then another person has to have a smaller slice than before. They can love their husbands just as much as ever. But, somehow you love your kids that little bit more. Question: If a father and child were in a dangerous situation and the mother could save the life of just one of them, who do you think she would pick? I reckon the vast majority of mothers would save their child. I would. That's your flesh and blood and it's every mother's duty to protect her children, whether you are a human being or an animal, the children come first. IT's the natural instinct. |

and was too embarrassed to tell anyone and get help.
