FamilyRe: What To Do? My Wife Refuses To Come Home! by English1(f): 4:05pm On May 05, 2007
Outlaws - really - you gave him advice 17 years ago when he got married? huh

anyway, I don't see how you can stay married if you can never live in the same country. You can't live in her country. She won't live in yours. What hope is there?

Or, would it be possible for you both to start a new life together in a different country altogether? Both apply for immigration as a couple? she might just not want to move to Africa/Nigeria, let's face it, it's a very different kind of life there. How about the US or Australia or somewhere like that? Or somewhere in Europe?

HealthRe: Abortion by English1(f): 11:49am On May 01, 2007
Having sex is not a criminal behaviour.

Anyway, what about the man? You have to blame him just as much.
HealthRe: Being A Vegetarian? by English1(f): 11:45am On May 01, 2007
A vegetarian doesn't just eat vegetables and fruit. It's important to eat grains and beans, lentils, nuts etc, for their proteins. Diary is good (milk, cheese, butter) if you like it but I'm not sure it is very commonly eaten in Nigeria (I could be wrong). It is a very healthy way to live as long as you eat a good range of food - but that's the truth for people who eat meat too. We all need variety to be healthy.

Millions of people in the world are vegetarian. Some through a personal decision, some through their culture or religion. Think how many Hindus there are in the world - most of them are vegetarian.  It's perfectly healthy.
FamilyRe: My Future Sister-In-Law Is Hard To Please by English1(f): 11:23am On May 01, 2007
I behaved like a total bitch to my favourite brothers girlfriend/fiancee even though secretly I really liked her. I was just jealous. But then I was only 12 years old and we all do stupid things at that age.

She is an adult and should know better. She sounds very immature to be jealous. Just ignore her behaviour. I'm sure her family are embarrassed by her and admire your cool head. cheesy

If you treat your wife like a thoroughbred, you'll never end up with a nag.

I love this idea grin

EducationRe: University Of Sussex Or Kent? by English1(f): 1:21pm On Apr 27, 2007
I'd go to Sussex because I love Brighton!

But really, you should look at the courses they are offering and decide which is best for you, and at the reputation of the department.
RomanceRe: How To Toast White Girls In London? by English1(f): 12:52pm On Apr 27, 2007
IF you are talking to them with the sole intention of 'laying your hands on them' I don't blame them for snubbing you.

English people don't  talk to strangers on the street. As the last poster said, you need to talk to people when you meet them more naturally, at a bar or club, at college, at work etc. And then just talk to them in a friendly way. There's nothing worse than some man coming up to you with a cheesy chat-up line.
HealthRe: Would You Donate Your Vital Organs? by English1(f): 11:54pm On Apr 16, 2007
It's hypocritical to say you would take an organ donation if you need one, but you wouldn't donate.

It's like a poor person taking money from a charity when they need it. But then when they are rich and the charity asks them to donate they tell the charity 'no way, get stuffed!'

You either believe in organ donation or you don't. It's not ok to believe  when you'll benefit from it but then let other people die instead of helping them.

I think that only people who are on the organ donation register should be allowed to get organs (apart from children of course). there's too many selfish people in this world.
HealthRe: Would You Donate Your Vital Organs? by English1(f): 4:07pm On Apr 16, 2007
I hope that everyone who says they wouldn't donate organs refuses a transplant themselves if they ever need one. Or their child. Or their parents. Or their spouse. Let them die instead of being saved.

If you refuse to give, you shouldn't take either!

It's ok to love London AND Lagos grin
HealthRe: What Time A Baby Boy Should Be Circumcised? by English1(f): 10:58am On Apr 12, 2007
I see you are in Germany. Are you intending to stay there long-term?

If so, you should know that circumcision is quite rare in Europe. If you are doing it for some religious/cultural belief, ok, but if you think he needs to be done to 'fit in' with the other boys then you will be doing the wrong thing. It will make him unusual. In Europe, circumcision is only really done by Jews and Muslims.
Christianity EtcRe: Covering Of Hair For Christain Women, Is It Compulsory? by English1(f): 5:03pm On Apr 10, 2007
It clearly says that women's heads should be covered but it also says that 'for her hair is given her for a covering.'

~So unless you are a bald woman, you don't need to wear a hat or scarf. Your hair covers your head.
TravelRe: Calling On All Nairalanders In Uk by English1(f): 9:43am On Apr 10, 2007
Good luck with your job hunt  cheesy Just keep trying.

Don't be too hard on yourself. It takes a lot of English people longer than that to find a job, so I wouldn't take it personally! It just took my son 6 months to find a new job.
TravelRe: Do You Have Hsmp? by English1(f): 9:31am On Apr 10, 2007
HSMP is changing to a points based system, that's all.

Earning requirement - this is now points based. The more you have earned previously, the more points you get. It doesn't mean that you can't apply if you haven't earned the minimum. You certainly don't have to be earning £40,000 or even £25,000. The amounts for each level of point awards depends on the country worked in. For the UK, you'll get 5 points if you earned £16,000. You'll get more points if you earned more than that.

Again, younger people get more points than older people.

How successful you are will depend on how many points you get overall. You might do poorly in one area but still get a lot of points in total.

Anyone applying for ILR now has to satisfy English language requirements and the 'Life in the UK' test (previously only required of people requesting citizenship). HEre is the Home Office info on it: http://www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk/aboutus/newsarchive/citizenknowledge

Nairaland GeneralRe: Tell Us About Your Scariest Experience by English1(f): 5:37pm On Apr 05, 2007
I nearly drowned in a lake when I was 4 years old and it must have been very scary for my poor mother. I remember not being scared though (at 4 you don't know you'll drown) but just feeling disgusted at being in the dirty water,

My scariest thing was when I was driving down a very busy road and a bed fell off a truck in front of me and landed on my car bonnet. shocked I couldn't see where I was going, I had to just brake and hope I didn't end up in a car-crash.

That's exactly what I was saying. So am I right or wrong now?
RomanceRe: Am I Alive Or Dead? by English1(f): 9:36am On Apr 03, 2007
Hang on, she is the one who lied to him, not the other way round.

Why did you do such a stupid thing? If he now turned round and said 'oh no, actually I have only slept with you and one other girl, I was lying before' would you believe him? Of course not. So why should he believe you?

IT doesn't sound as if either of you are mature enough to be in a relationship. Call it off, get over it, and learn a lesson from this. Next time you have a boyfriend don't start telling him stupid lies.
FamilyRe: Still Bearing Your Maiden Name After Marriage? by English1(f): 9:42am On Mar 30, 2007
I kept my name when I married. Mainly because I have a nice name and my husband had a weird name that no-one can spell or say properly. I'm not dealing with that problem all my life. In fact, he used to use my name sometimes if it was easier - if he phoned up to order a cab for us or something he would give my name, otherwise things could get confused! We gave our son his surname though as no-one thinks it odd here for mother and children to have different names, but I don't think anyone would have believed he was the father if the child didn't have his name. smiley

Now he is my ex-husband but I don't think our names had anything to do with that!
