The point is that people will criticize Pochettino for playing 2 DMs and one CM if the do not win games but because they're effective, nobody will complain. If McFred perform like Herrera and Gueye yesterday, I'm sure you won't have folks complaining about them.

Another point is that Veratti played as a CM very close to the two DMs so he was always available to receive the ball as soon as they won it.

The defense would get terribly exposed without Fred. He’s one of the best(3rd most ball winning pressures in the PL) in cutting off opposition attacks - but he’s very terrible in possession.

If you keep Fred out of the squad, the passing would improve but United would be exposed when they lose the ball(which they do a lot because of Bruno’s high risk passing). United use 2 players to do the job of one player and still those two players fall short of the gold standard.

This is like playing with 9 men against 11.

The funniest aspect of all is that Carrick and scholars have a lot of other players putting defensive shift.
The stats they provided of Rooney was when he was part of the front 3 with tevez and Ronaldo, yet he still put in defensive shift.

If Fernandez is playing the supporting strike role then the two on the wing must be ready to contribute defensively.

The major problem will have is Ole is lack of idea on how to utilize the players or should I call it fear of experimenting with his squad nothing stop him from using a midfield 3 of Van de beek, Fred and Pogba in midfield with Bruno on the bench in some games.

Even, if he want to use Mcfred with Pogba and Bruno then he must be willing to use an attacking Right back and use 4-4-2 formation with Ronaldo and any other forward.

Not every game require, this 4-2-3-1 formation. Both Bruno and Pogba are quality players on their day but at times need to sit on the bench to know they are indispensable. Again the Ronaldo signing could be a curse in disguise as Ronaldo might have to sit out some game or be sub out which Ole won't have the ball to do it.

LMAO I remember how people were excited for Ronaldo transfer. If the coach does not have a reliable system, it will end in tears.
