Good day house. Please this is so important. What causes this rising dampness on walls. I have noticed it in many houses in Abuja. What can be done to rectify this problem. it flakes off the cement from the wall. Gives dark patches and swellings on screeded walls. I cannot even use wall papers cause it will soak the paper. I paint the wall after every raining season.
Mind you, the house I am living in now is a new house and german floor waterproof nylon was used to cover the whole floor before concrete was poured. Water proof cement was also used to screed the wall.

Please any solution because it is really embarrassing.
Thank you.

One of the greatest attitude to have in business is communication.

I dont know if checkitaut is sick or what is making him to fail to deliver to his clients but either way communication is the key. If he was having hard time with his workers/suppliers causing the delays.. why not communicate to his clients??

Lots of times, we are all dependent on some other people to help us deliver to our clients , if those individuals fail that trickles down to us, causing us to fail our clients. But again communication is the key, dont be shy, be honest tell your client what happened and work with them to resolve the issue.

I have been in a number of incident like this, a guy that was supposed to do some work for me, paid him, sourced materials , 2 week later.. dude was still no show, I called him raging and his response oh, my wife just had a baby... am like didn't you know your wife was pregnant for the past 9 months? Do you know if my own wife was pregnant too or ..... but at the end of the day.. this is business.. the Client have blood flowing in their veins also and we all do have plans , don't wehuh

Another situation on site, my in law didn't tell me about it, where I thought the project was was not actually where it is.... dude used the money to settle village people, youth, elders etc that was disturbing the build.... I wasn't happy with him, his response was, he didn't know how to tell me, I might think he chopped the money, he is trying to see how he could patch things and stretch the remaining budget.. and he got me thinking, now you got me upset and all and this is sth that's beyond your control and I have already envisioned where the project should have been and now here we are!!! Did you patch things up then or made it worsehuh?

Bottom line, communication is the key.. if you can't deliver tell your client, refund them as necessary... it the circumstances was beyond your control and the money is gone because of some unforeseen circumstances, still communicate with the client or supplier as the case might be and work something out... keeping silent makes matters worse.

But you are right.
The title "Engineer", is a Professional title that is awarded and confered by a Professional body of Engineers, after specified academic and experience qualifications are taken into consideration.
That is how it is everywhere, including the U.K
All Engineers are Certified as Engineers, that is why they are called Engineers.
Anything other than that does not make you an Engineer but you may have other appropriate titles for your level.

I think you are missing the point. Let me try again.

The title Engineer is found in several professions. This is not just a Nigerian issue. Yes, Nigerians give undue recognition to titles but it doesn't mean we should use those titles anyhow. I have worked with Europeans who have never refer to themselves as Engineers as the title is being used in Nigeria but these guys have 40-60yrs professional experience. In their country, a Bachelor's degree is called a Diploma. Their profession is still Engineering and they are qualified Engineers.

All these being said, if you as an Engr wish to use the Title Engr instead of Mr. you need the law to back you up. An artisan cannot use that title unless he is qualified and the law gives him the title.

Now to analogies.
A law graduate is a lawyer but a law graduate called to bar is a Barrister! A lawyer can never be a Barrister without the bar (law) that gives him the right to bear the title.
A medical school graduate is not a Doctor until he has appropriately taken the oat.
A Professor is a professional rank and the title can only be used when the senate of awarding institution confers the title.
A person elected to the Senate cannot be called a Senator until he is sworn to office.
An Engineering school graduate is not an engineer until the title awarding body appropriately gives him the certification to bear the title.

Every other Title that any person can bear before his name has to be given by law.

You are in the UK and I believe you should be privy to how a person can earn the tilte Sir or Lord. Can anyone by himself award such title?

An Engineer is a title and has to be awarded by an instrument of the law. Therefore there are rules on who is qualified and who is not in every single title you can name.
I was quoting you from what you said upstairs nothing in that definition suggest your explanation as above.I will say this o nce again, the problems of Nigerians in Nigeria is we dwell 2much on certificates rather than the profession.Look Im not alian to the Nigerian Education system after all I did my 1st degree in Nigeria and only God helped us.Down in the west we learn everyday and train on the JOB

Can You Become an Engineer Without an Engineering Degree?
InstituteForApprenticeships/FLICKR

Engineering is a time-old field that used to require years of apprenticeship in the industry but now requires years of school just to become licensed. However, could you become an engineer without an engineering degree?
If we are going to examine this question, we need to set some groundwork for who exactly we consider an engineer. For this endeavour, we will focus on the core of engineering professions: mechanical, civil, chemical, and electrical. Software engineers (in fact, all the students that are doing computer science studies) are engineers, but not in the classical sense – you can also get into this profession without a degree in the field. For these four main categories, we can generally lump the rest of the engineering fields in. Manufacturing engineering can be considered mechanical, geotechnical engineering can be considered civil, etc.

Now that we have our ground rules established, let's look for the answer to the question!

Can You Become an Engineer Without an Engineering Degree?

Civil Engineering

Focusing first on civil engineering, this is currently one of the harder fields to enter into without a degree in engineering. Most civil engineers need to be licensed as Professional Engineers (PEs) in order to be allowed to stamp official plans. In order to get this license, at least a bachelor's in engineering is required. With that said, it is still plausible that you could become a subset of a civil engineer without a degree. Most of these cases are going to require years of hard work at one company that allows you to increase throughout the ranks of the field without formal education. For example, the construction worker to foreman to drafter to engineer. The occurrences of this advancement in civil engineering will be few and far between. The easiest entry to this profession would be simply to get a civil engineering degree. There is a good reason for such high requirements - a person without appropriate knowledge can cause quite a mess during a construction project.

Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical engineers aren't quite as regulated of a profession as civil engineering when it comes to licensing. The quick answer is that you could become a mechanical engineer without a degree in that field, but again, a degree in something technical is usually required. This is great news for any undergraduate student as it allows you to start working before you finish a university program. If you wanted to get into mechanical engineering without any college education you would need to demonstrate years of proficiency and skill in the field. Some companies will even encourage promising graduate and undergraduate students to apply for such a job. It will help the development of your skills while the company will get an experienced worker as soon as he or she finishes university courses. Even then, an employer might still require you to get a formal degree as part of the job. Compared to civil engineering, you can get into mechanical engineering without a degree in the field with ease, but the best way is still to get a degree.

Can You Become an Engineer Without an Engineering Degree?

Chemical Engineering

Chemical engineering is perhaps the easiest field to get into without a degree in chemical engineering, but also the hardest degree to get into without a college degree. Part of why chemical engineering is easier without a chemical engineering degree is because of how far-reaching chemistry is. One could become a chemical engineer with a degree in chemistry, biology, or other life sciences. However, if you don't have some formal education in applied science, becoming a chemical engineer is going to be quite hard.

Electrical Engineering

Lastly, electrical engineering. We saved this one for last because it is probably the easiest field to get into without a degree at all, assuming you can demonstrate proficiency. Electrical engineering is a field that can largely be learned through hard work and experimentation, to a greater extent than other engineering fields. Someone can get started building various things in their garage and eventually gain enough proficiency to be hired in the field. This isn't to discount the large advantage that presents itself with having an electrical engineering degree, rather it is to highlight that hard work can get you into this engineering field more than any other. This makes sense given that this specific field is dependent on the creativity of your projects and final technology that you can produce. Unlike other engineering sciences, where the final product has to adhere to certain quality standards, electrical engineering is all about inventing new systems, services, and products. One of the best careers for those who like to tinker but don't like to study.

Top 10 Reasons to Become an Engineer

Nowadays, you can find lots of engineering resources online. Many people prefer attaining advanced knowledge by reading content on a site. Even though this may help, some areas will be heavily regulated and will require an academic degree. Those of you who would like to skip the traditional learning process and going to a university (due to lack of free time) have in mind there are numerous accredited programs which you can complete online. Just make sure that your state (or country) recognizes the degree.

So, can you become an engineer without a degree? Well, yes ... but it is by far easier to just go get the degree. Engineers are just people who have honed their critical thinking and problem-solving skills beyond standards. If you want to become an engineer, don't let having a degree hold you back. Get out there and learn.

Training and skill is what a professional is. To be called an engineer in Nigeria, the minimum training required is a Bachelor's degree or a post graduate degree in an engineering related field.

Those who trained on the job with no training are called artisans. The next level are the Technicians then the technologist . Each require a minimum level of training such as a Diploma and Higher diploma respectively.
Thank you for your definition of what an Engineer is as a noun.well in the weswt they do not believe in this formal Education University stuff as we do in Nigeria, they believe in practical and waht you can do on the day rather than the paper called certificate. That being said there is a big market on training on the job to get the skills and required training need to get certified.you do not neeed BSc in the west. There are loads of vocational sturdies!!!

Building a new machine that has never been made makes you an inventor not an engineer.

The term Engineer is related to the certification one carries which is the symbol of responsibility given by law. An Engineer should not exist without backing from the law. The title is awarded only based on established professional training and skill not your job or abilities or responsibility.

With regards to the law, only a person certified to be called an engineer is empowered to carry lawful instruments to allow the practice or in your case the operation of hydraulic equipment.

You dont have to attach the word certified to engineer to give it a meaning. An Engineer by law is certified while that person that is not certified is not an engineer.

Your point about engineers not existing in history does not hold water since even Nigeria as a country didn't exist at several points in history. The fact that ancient engineers were not called Engineer doest not change anything. Doctors also didn't exist in history but we had physicians.

Am sure you know the difference between a lawyer and a Barrister. These professional names are symbols of the law which created them and their responsibilities.
Look Im not going to dwell on this no longer, but Im sure you know what a certified Engineer means cos of further training..

beamNIGERIA:
There you need a bit more enlightenment.
Here there is a question of legality, more than anything else.

In jurisdictions, the term “engineer” denotes a “professional.” Someone who has been certified to practice, as a lawyer or doctor would be.

Your line in bold is best ascribe ignorance, literally you can be called an engineer when you not certified, so long as you didn’t lead anyone to rely upon that assertion (as seen in op)

Certification of engineers typically applies in fields where human safety is at stake… So certification and licensing of structural, Mechanical and civil engineers is taken very seriously.
You still do not get it, you are talking from assumption.I do not need to be a certified Engineer to build a new machine and train more Engineers to maintain it.If you check from history the great inventors where never certified Engineers.
Now you did make some points that I found valid though. But I maintian the word you was looking for is Certified Engineer. The reason why you would need a certified Engineer would be Jobs that required certification, or for legal reasons. ie Insurance etc or government legislature..
I am a Uk certified Enginer,Im a fluid Engineer so I deal with Flued Mechanics.I carry out test and certification with major fleets on thier hydrolic systems. At teh end I put a sticker o n them to certify them legal to operate. Now if these Hydrolic systems goes faulty you do not need me to come fix it,the guys who fix them are not certified Engineers like me,But they still are Engineers.I dont know if this is clear enough.

I'm sure this quotation wasn't prepared by an 'Engineer'. That that he builds for you doesn't justify him earning the title Engineer, you addressing him as such, he is impersonating.
You are extremely wrong there, anyone who can Engineer anything perfect is an Engineer, however, I think the word you were looking for is A QUALIFIED ENGINEER. This is the Difference, we as Nigerians should desist that school of thought which tend to think its only those with certificate are worthy to be called Engineers nop, all maintenance personal in various industries in the west are mostly called Engineers even though they trained on the JOBB.

Our debt to GDP is very fine, Our debt to Revenue is quite fine, all developed countries borrowed thier way to progress

Yes nigeria borrowed to complete Abuja-Kaduna rail, however its annual turnover and profit after expenditure is in the range of several billions

Our Infrastructural deficit stands at atleast $50 - $100 billion USD, if lagos to Kano rail cost $5.6billion, and Lagos - Calabar cost withing that range, rail alone needs 20 billion, while power needs $10bn, and roads, Ajaokuta steel plant and other project needs $30billion, 2.3 bpd crude oil sales with IOC taking 40% wont give us revenue fast enough to develop when our population growth is 3%

To the Dunce qouting me, why not suggest another financial plan for FG outside borowing, since our revenue is constant at 2.3mbpd crude oil sales we share with oil companies and our Population growth is 3% yearly

..
