Culture › Re: 7 Things Westerners Think When They Hear Africa by erico2k2(m): 8:13am On Jul 19, 2018 |
24hoursreporter: The western world has a great misconception about Africa. It is really very funny when you meet some westerners online and they think Africans are barbarians. Perhaps it is due to some of the images they see about the continents on news networks. Sadly, what some of these westerners fail to understand is the fact that Africa is a beautiful continent. This article will focus on the things Westerners think when they hear Africa.
7 Things Westerners Think When They Hear Africa
#1. Africans Live On Trees
One of the things westerners think when they hear Africa is that we live on trees. It still a puzzle while some people from the western world will think that Africans live on trees.
For Clarity sake, Africans don’t live on trees or forest. Rather they live in houses with modern infrastructural facilities.
#2 Africans Are All Dark Skinned
Another great misconception the westerner world has about Africans is the fact that they are all dark-skinned. This is not correct as they are people in Africa that are light skinned.
As a matter of fact, people from countries like Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt etc are all light skinned and they are Africans.
#3 Africans Are TechnoPhobe
The Westerners believe that Africans are Technophobe. In other words, they know nothing about Technology.
They believe that an average African can’t even operate a computer. Yeah, that is how bad it is.
#4 Africans Live in Bush
Some Westerners still believe that Africans live in the bush. In fact, most of them believe that there are no beautiful houses on the continent.
Perhaps some of the movies they watch about Africa make them believe that the continent is inhabited by savages. This is not true, they are beautiful and modern houses in Africa, some of them are more beautiful than the ones in the Western world.
#5 There are no beautiful houses
If you are having this misconception about Africa, you better erase it now. They are beautiful mansions on the continent.
As a matter of fact, there are 5-star hotels on the continent that dignitaries from the Western world live when they are on an official visit to the continent.
#6 Africa Wear Barefoot
On a serious note, “this one weak me very well”. The Westerners believe that Africans are so poor that they can’t even afford to buy a shoe.
This is a wrong impression they have about the continents. Africans wear the fashionable and trending shoes. Name the shoe brand, we wear it in Africa.
#7 Africans Beg For Food
This is also one of the things westerns think when they hear Africa. This is not true, we don’t beg for food in Africa, rather we grow food.
Most people living in rural areas here in Africa eat more than three times a day and they are all happy.
These are some of the things Westerners think when they hear Africa. Share this article on social media and prove to the world that Africa is a civilized continent.

Bhelamblog: The Borno state Police command has arrested 8 persons suspected to have taken part in the April 14, 2014, kidnap of the 276 Chibok schoolgirls in Maiduguri, the state Capital.
The eight suspected Boko Haram terrorists who are among 22 persons paraded, were said to have been arrested by operatives of the Inspector General’s Intelligence Response Team (IGP’s IRT) in Borno, Adamawa and other adjoining communities.
The suspects are alleged to have masterminded over 50 suicide bomb attacks within Maiduguri and Adamawa.
They (suspects) also launched several other attacks leading to the death of thousands of Nigerians.

bigt2: Wired landlines won't work in Nigeria. The underground cables doesn't even work as it ends in this loop:
A. Dig the soil and spoil good roads B. Install your Fibre optic cables C. Government exhume the cables while (if) repairing the road. D. Goto A.
it would work, in Nigeria we are even lucky we have next to no concrete to dig fru,Im not talking government Im talking about a private company doing this, one cable carrying both Data and Voice. |

hooklover: The non available power supply is a major reason why goods are expensive.
This is were govt has failed to deliver steady uninterrupted power supply to power industries..
One cannot be buying diesel to power generators and expect goods to be cheap. instead they are planning on spending $millions in buying new planes for Nigeria Airways |

Ijaya123: You're very correct. It is not about sentiments. Our greatest undoing is the management and maintenance culture.
If Ethiopia, Kenya and South African airlines can be thriving, why can we? If you check there is a reason behind these airlines you mentioned one word TOURISM.THE USERS are not from these countries, but in our case its a tad different. |

mapet: let me help you sir........
so @bigpicture001,
1. Nigeria signed a BASA agreement with other countries (US, UK, South Africa, Ethiopia etc) that allows them to direct flight to our country and back.....same for us. While these countries sufficiently utilizes their quota, we hardly. Is it not good if govt backed-private partnership National carrier come to take up the quota that the likes of Arik et al have failed to do?
2. We run a sub-par local air travels. Is it not good if govt backed-private partnership National carrier come into the local scene and boost the business in that regard?
3. Consider the "robbery-rates" these foreign airlines charges us, especially in summer simply because there is no alternative........
4. Consider what this national carrier will do to us on the soft side - our Image, our pride, our reach, the ability to further develop our aviation industries, Air connectivity to states etc So you think 9ja Airways is all of a sudden going to slash cost to Lagos. As we speak my flight tkt from London to PHC was £680 for the month of November, this is Lufthansa a non govt owned Airline. The Airport we have atm can not be even managed to acceptable standards here we see a govt providing another means of embezzlement you lot are here glorifying these people. Go back and check why Richard Branson pulled out of the Virgin Nigeria deal, corruption, they where asking far too much from the man and he did the honourable thing pull out..A country where private Int Airliner do not last more than a year and you think a National Airline will stand. Look we been here B4 with the Virgin Nigeria. It was not any cheaper, we had Belview, same shyte even worse. We should improve our Airport to allowed more airline land here and establish good competition. |
