musicwriter: Make no mistake, stealing was not an after-thought, but the purpose. Even before leaving Europe, they knew they were going to steal. They knew in advance because Rome already did the same thing to other European countries in medieval times.
Britain, France, Portugal, Spain, and all the other colonialists were simply repeating what they learned from Rome. In fact, when one honest British man returned stolen artifacts to Benin kingdom few years ago, the jotter that the invaders recorded their activities in the so called punitive expeditions labeled the materials as ''loots'' and ''more loots''. See below video.
Printerscanner: Is it creating problems for the British?
Yes, few brits are protesting that these artefacts be returned to where they belong or rent be paid on them as the British Museum is making money out of it.If you watch the news, few Statues of those who got involved in these trades have been brought down in recent years!
tamethem: Let them keep them. Each of those artifacts worth millions of Euro. Release it to Naija and they start missing from our collections. Maintenance Culture here is Zero. Can we give them such world class care they are given there.
I love my country but our leaders suck.
Keep them for us till we have good reasonable Leaders who are sincere and Focused.
Speak of what you know, go to the Oba of Benin's Palace and see for yourself!
musicwriter: The different European countries commissioned and funded what was called ''chartered companies'' to do the dirty jobs for them.
Chartered companies were companies that received certain rights and privileges under a special charter issued by the sovereign of a European state. This charter usually gave the company a nationally recognized trading monopoly for a specific geographic area and for specific trade items, and the right to use force to open and maintain trade. Dominant in the 17th and 18th centuries during the era of the ”scramble for Africa''. The nationally funded chartered companies were indispensable tools for the opening of Africa to European commercial and imperial ambition.
yeah I get that, I was only going by what can be proven in a court of law. If you check you will agree with me these where for trae purposes not to steal but as you know it the heart of man is wicked, they looted, raped and stole.
dfrost: This had got to be the best comment coming from a Nairalander.
. Honestly I don't see us managing those artifacts. Common pothole that we see everyday, we can't manage. Talk more of artifacts that we don't see everyday.
Wont it be nice if rent is paid on them? DO you know how much the British make from them being displayed??
IPOB and these artifacts are not connected. That part of Nigeria was so primitive and animalistically too savage to produce sophisticated artifacts that were only found in Oyo empire, All over north and Benin.
You dey point to people wey no get king, or governance system of any kind. Obi of Onitcha was created by the British to hide the shame of the hamlet dwellers. You no see as dem dey behave?
Cc Immhotep lzaa
DId you do Social Sturdies in JSS3?if U did you would have been taught the various kingdoms in West Africa and how they had their own Rules and Laws B4 the British came. Ofcos the Igbos had their own kingdoms and trade arrangement, Igbo is just like Yoruba and Hausa and Fulanis.
ariesbull: It wasn't stolen pls...it was a war booty and that is what it is...thank Lord it's even there...if it was here...we wouldn't have managed it well
Let's be honest....go to Benin musuem today and cry
musicwriter: Historians and Africans should stop using the above word that the British has put in our mouths through indoctrination a.k.a education. The so called punitive expeditions were ''stealing expeditions'' carried out all over the world in their greedy quest for world domination.
exactly, this is very well documented here. however it should be noted that these where not stolen by the British govt but private merchants who sailed across the world. The came back the GB with whatever the find and sell to the man on the streets back then. If you refuse to hand over you get shot. Same tactic the Germans used against eh Jews in terms of their paintings etc!
I think it does, I sure you can see where he is coming from. The British are bad like that and yes the Romans took loads, The Romans are the Brits too!
maishai: Brother , there is more value they being in the british museum, where do you want to keep those artifacts in nigeria, they will just rot to clay, search Nairaland for our so called artifacts that have not made their way out of Nigeria and all you get is abandoned artifacts carrying dust of ages, Just cut cap for the white man for valueing what the average black man considers voodoo......If a black man displays those artifacts i see , u go think say you dey Okija shrine
Not at all bro, you need to see how these things work, they will be loaned to museum across the globe, this is what India china and the rest of the world are doing, The British Zoo even loan Giant Pandas from Asia.
SINCE 1804 THEY HAVE BEEN SELLING THEIR PEOPLE AND EVEN THEMSELVES.
I stil find it strange how youths born in Nigeria do not even know the geophysical demarcation of Nigeria, Those Artifacts are of the Benin and Yorubas trait!.Im sure the likes of you only travel btw Lagos and Ogun state thazzzzzit. So in ur waaap knowledge if you aint Yoruba or hausa you are Igbo? This xplains the mass failure in O'level in Nigeria.

I stand with the police. It is not fair that an IG was humiliated like this. His inability to pronounce cantankerous words doesn't spell an inability to carry out the functions of an IGP.
Nigerians are unreasonably highly judgemental, It is very unfair to expect a man who was taught English language in Hausa to pronounce English words like the Duke of Cambridge.
It's also not fair to expect a man who last marched as a secondary school student to effectively participate in a parade with other service chiefs.
Whoever videotaped the IGP in his ridiculous condition does not just deserve to be arrested but also deserves an award at the Cannes film festival.
With that said, Happy married life Lalasticlala. Dear Mynd44; you are next in line to find love.
Humilation? realy? how? he marely posted a report,Its up to readers to make anything out of it.If the reporter was from the BBC would he dare issue a warrant for him to appear ? even if the BBC reporter did waht can he do? did someone not report PMB calling Germany Western germany? that was world wide Humilation, did he caugh U stand with the Police my backside
FlirtyKaren: A manhunt has been launched by the Nigerian Police, for the reporter who shared of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris struggling to read his speech at the inauguration of the Police Technical Intelligence Unit in Kano, Kano State on Monday, which has been trending with #transmission.
Liberty Television journalist, Aminu Nurudeen, who is believed to have posted the viral video of IGP Ibrahim Idris, has reportedly gone into hiding, as Punch gathered that the Kano State Police Command invited the reporter to its office immediately the video went viral.
Nurudeen’s whereabouts had been unknown since the Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Musa Magaji Majiya, invited him on Thursday.
Authorities are upset with the journalist because he had allegedly disobeyed a directive by the Kano State Police Command to journalists present at the event not to report the IG’s blunder or make the video public.
In a part of the transcription of the footage, Idris said, “I mean, transmission, I mean effort, that the transmission cooperation to transmission, I mean transmission to have effect, ehm, apprehend, I mean, apprehensive towards the recommendation, recommended formation effective and effect, I mean, apprehensive at the transmission of…and transmission and transmission for the effective in the police command.”
Sources revealed that IGP Ibrahim Idris, who was embarrassed by the trending video reportedly ordered an investigation into its release.
In a chat with Punch, a source said, “He (the IGP) has however ordered an investigation into the leakage of the video but we are watching to see how he intends to deal with the individuals behind the viral video without further embarrassing himself and the force”.
Also, detectives are allegedly using the police technical platform to track the original source of the video on social media. Bloggers that posted the video might be interrogated by the police for allegedly, “peddling a doctored video meant to cast the IG in bad light and embarrass the police leadership.”
Idris, in an interactive media chat on the police Twitter handle, Nigerian Police @PoliceNG #Askthepolice, had also told Nigerians that the video was doctored.
Our "government" always chooses to neglect that part of the foreign cultures they so vividly claim to be following.
NYSC... Chai... My brother that matter na military choppings O!
NYSC budget: N1500 per meal in camp. (they serve Corp members water and few leaves ; costing like N100) Who keeps the remaining cash?
NYSC should be scrapped.
National Internship Commission should be Instituted with a comprehensive database and enough outlets and a website so anyone out of job in a particular age range can register and be sent to such big and medium scale companies... They will learn more that way.
Don't mind these greedy people in power, they know what's up and what time it is but chose to milk the system for their own selfish interest. I did internship in England when I was younger and still working with such skills as we speak. The English GOVT PAY THESE COMPANIES TO TRAIN YOU, EVEN IF YOU WANT TO TRAIN AT A MECHANIC WORKSHOP.I just pity anybody who hails politicians in 9ja, they don't care bout no one than themselves. I have not seen any exceptions.!
hannysur8: 200k pounds.... that's too much for what
I don't even know why the govt paid, When he was in power he could have used his good office to build such hospital but NOP, now he was flown abroad. This should be a lesson to those in power, you might need help one day!
If I were the next president, I will end that stupid scheme instantly!
What we need are projects that these youths will be needed to join companies to execute!
When there are enough projects, naturally, companies must employ more hands.
As for Npower Agriculture that one matter pass my mouth Jarre!
Stupid Npower scheme with no future plans
#anyBodyButBuhari
Thank God I have someone who share same view with me, This crap Npower and NYSC should be scrapped. The money should be used to pay companies who are willing to train young people, ie coca cola, Guinness, Shell, Life flour Mill etc. These are what developed nations do as internship for people who don't want to go Uni.
