The Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Frank Okiye, Tuesday said no member of the House has endorsed the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Osagie Ize-Iyamu, for the September 19, 2020 governorship election.

Okiye also faulted some members-elect for impersonating the leadership of the legislative arm which was proclaimed by the state governor on June 17, 2019.

He made the clarification during the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) campaign rally for the governorship election at Ward 3 in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of the state.

He said the clarification was in response to sponsored reports that alleged that the deputy speaker of the House, Yekini Idiaye, had on Monday led four other legislators to endorse the candidacy of Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the governorship election.

The speaker, represented at the rally by the House Leader, Nosayaba Okunbor, representing Orhionwmwon Constituency 1, said there was no cause for alarm, adding that the House of Assembly is intact.

He, however, expressed regret that Emmanuel Agbaje, lawmaker representing Akoko-Edo II Constituency, allegedly followed the path of perfidy by accepting bribe to do the bidding of a political godfather in the state.

“For those of us in Edo State House of Assembly, comprising 10 members have resolved not to collect money and do the bidding of anyone,” he said.

He lauded the state governor, Godwin Obaseki, for his efforts in controlling the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic in the state.

Obaseki is one of the few governors paying workers full salary in spite of pandemic. I know of several governors owing as much as 3 months salary. Read about ekiti civil servants who are currently threatening to go in strike. Its still fresh in the news. The salary owed edo workers is that of july. My wife is a civil servant so I can attest to it.

Hope you heard what the otaru said yesterday about obaseki on regular payment of pensions and salary. We all know these. Civil servants constitute the highest number of electorate in edo state and they'd do justice to these. They don't come online to rant. Obaseki needs not work much in edo central which is the hub of the pdp. I just laughed at yekini who hails from my constoruency, saying there's no single development in akoko edo. If you've been to somorika his hometown and ojirami, you'd see developments under the obaseki-led administration. The one you showed is even small. Which law makers would mobilise the grassroots . We are the grassroots. All the wards chairmen in akoko edo held a meeting yesterday at the Akoko Edo LGA Chairman's office, in solidarity with obaseki and preparation for the tomorrow's campaigns. They're jokers. Maybe they'd mobilize their family members for votes. They wanted contracts to be handled directly by their cronies who would do a bad job after they must have done the NDDC replica the way it has always been in akoko edo but obaseki refused. That's why you could see much work done else, they'd have swallowed the money. I wish them well.

Akoko Edo is my LGA where Yekini the Deputy Speaker who defected to APC today lied that obaseki did nothing also hails from . He's from somorika when going to ososo side. Obaseki Kicks off Campaign in Edo North, Receives Royal Blessings

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki on Monday kicked off his reelection campaign in Akoko Edo Local Government Area, Edo North Senatorial District, promising to build on the good foundation his administration has laid in the last three years and eight months, with an economic blueprint that will address the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic.


Receiving the governor in his palace, the Otaru of Igarra, Oba Emmanuel Adeche Saiki II, prayed that God will guide the governor and bless his plans for the state.

“We pray that God will guide you in all your ways. You should not be discouraged in advising the youths against violence and political thuggery, because the era of violence and thuggery is gone,” the Otaru said.

Responding, Obaseki said that with the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic, the people need a leader with focus, and one that is genuinely concerned about the well-being of the people of the state.


On agriculture, the governor said that food production must be improved upon and taken more seriously as farming should be a priority, with the dwindling resources from Abuja.

“What you have seen in the last three years and eight months is small compared to what we have planned for our second term. We have the experience that our opponent does not have.

“Our radical reforms have given us a solid foundation to build on. We will tackle security challenges in the state,” he said.


The governor assured that he will not disappoint the people who have stood by him since his assumption of office.

“I am seeking re-election because we have started a revolution of development in the last three years and eight months to make governance relevant to Edo people.

“We pay civil servants and pensioners on time because we have prioritised their well-being and have trained our teachers to be digital teachers, and now our children are learning well. We have improved on infrastructure in Igarra land and we would do more.


“We have been working for Edo people with focus on the future of the youths in the state. We want to put more money in education. I want to complete the technical college here in Igarra, the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) will soon be history as we have started working on electricity as I have made the son of this land to take charge of the electricity board. At the end of this year, electricity issue will be a thing of the past.


“The role of government is to train the youths and build their capacity to enable them become employers of labour,” Obaseki added.

Also speaking, the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, thanked the people for their support in the last three years and eight months and sought their continued support and votes, come September 19.

He noted that Obaseki is a man that doesn’t discriminate in the area of appointment as he appointed their sons to occupy the position of Interim Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Chief of Staff, Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA), amongst others.

In my state, 2 closest towns may be speaking different languages and they'd not understand each other . Uneme Nekhua for instance doesn't speak same language with Ikpeshi a stone throw or ope. Let me make myself clear. Apc was our party and obaseki was our candidate in the apc. He was denied the ticket and that's why we moved with him. Those who are with pastor, no wahala. Good luck. We see ourselves as one in edo. Obaseki's kinsmen supported him 4 years ago and this time, 2 of them are supporting ize iyamu. That's who we are in edo. But we have received an intelligence repots that thugs would be imported and we are waiting for them. We can easily identify strangers unlike other states. If we speak a language to you and you're acting like mumu. You'd be on our watch list. People could call this empty threats but we're not cowards like some people. We don't sell our birth right too. He didn't even have anything to give us .He worked very hard and he couldn't have done much without obaseki, the technocrat who brought in those ideas, including the ceramics plant, the largest in west Africa. It's surprising that things aren't going on well between them and Oshiomohle isn't attributing his success to godwin and that's politics for you. Had obaseki still remained in the apc, the party which he never wanted to leave, all these issues wouldn't have been there.
