cizy:Ignoramus on the loose! PMB built refineries under Abacha's govt? LMAO! |
NavierStokes:The issue is that people like you who are not in the know are making hollow posts and generalizations and passing them off as fact. When do you think the world will stop requiring energy from fossil fuels? When do you think oil will become extraneous to energy generation? Keep wailing and misleading yourself. How many refineries worldwide refine light crude? What is Dr. Ibe Kachikwu's plans for the refineries and how does he plan to actualize it? If you know the answers to the questions you won't have posted this nonsense. |
A40:Raphael Honigstein said Pep said he would stay at the beginning of the season, but then changed his mind mid-way. If you know Pep, you'd know he can be like that. He did exactly that to Barca after they had crashed out to CFC at the semis of the UCL in 2012. And nobody is saying he is irreplaceable but I am sure every important person in Munchen wanted him to stay. You don't just want a manager that does well but one that fully identifies with the values of your club, such that even when he is at loggerheads with the management, the disagreement doesn't filter through to the pages of tabloids and press interviews as some managers are renowned for *cough cough* As for Mandzukic and ATM. I think it is safe to assume that if he did well enough Simeone would have kept him. And also saying that he is "doing well" in Juventus is subjective. There are some other players that you let go of not because of their talent but more about their attitude and personality. Mandzukic reminds of a Gallas or Balotelli. Jupp took on Mou's Madrid and beat them on penalties. If he had died before the final, many would have sworn that he would have beaten CFC. He lost to a largely underwhelming CFC. Personally, losing to CFC should hurt more than losing to RM or Barca ( I am sure you agree). So it can be spun either ways. RM beat counter-attacking teams like Dortmund 3-0, ATM 4-1 enroute to winning the UCL. So Jupp's counter-attacking brand of football may have (and I dare say most likely would have) suffered similar fate. Winning one of the legs is only mathematical as the ends is what should justify the means. As for Barca of last season, you saw what Messi did to Neuer and Boateng. It happens. I get your drift though. |
A40:Bayern FC is a big club but let's get it straight. If a manager is offered the best contract ever by any manager, is expected to declare his acceptance during the annual general meeting, but he is dragging feet- it is clear he is not going to stay. So Bayern did the right thing by seeking a plan B. He wasn't being egotistical or what not. It is clear he wanted to deliver the UCL and then leave on a high. But in doing that he knew that announcing he was going, could add extra pressure on him to deliver the UCL. As for Mandzukic, Shaqiri etc. Is it not funny that they didn't leave Bayern to set their next clubs on fire? Pep should be commended for letting them go. Mandzukic failed in ATM and Shaqiri failed in Inter. Yes he has obviously underperformed against 2 power-houses that went on to win the UCL convincingly and although he had some of the blames he shouldn't take all of it. We are all praising Jupp's achievements in his final season (and rightly so) but there is nothing and I mean ABSOLUTELY nothing to suggest Jupp would've beaten RM in 2014 and Barca in 2015. Ofcourse the scorelines suffered especially against RM is another topic of discussion. |
oloriooko:I can trust PMB. I actually trust him more than his party and thank God he controls his party. I could never trust the previous govt. Even the little subsidy that was removed they grossly mismanaged. Christopher Kolade dumped the fraud of a SURE-P. The rest of the complaints about YOUWIN and co are well known. Something as serious as BH, they used as a ploy to launder money and pay themselves. PMB is cut from a different stock. |
oloriooko:A quick answer, we didn't trust the government of Knaves to utilise the money. |
Oghos1:Unlearning fallacies dey cause migraine o jare. Don't trouble your head. There is nothing more common that unfulfilled genius. The world is full of such people- With the raw talent and brilliance who never get to achieve anything due to one factor or the other. Lee Sharpe in United, Dennis Wise in CFC, Diesler of Bayern, Quaresma of Barca the list is ad infinitum. Nobody refutes Messi's uncanny abilities or potentials but he needed Pep to help maximise it. People underestimate the impact injuries can make to a talents rise. If Messi did not meet Pep, he would've been no better than Robben, and the world of pundits would have said...wait for it...that he was unfulfilled talent! You keep talking about him being the best in the Barca before Pep but you conveniently ignore the fact that he was NOT the world's best before Pep. I see how you and your ilk also disingenuously forget that Ronaldinho himself burnt out too soon and CAN be classified as another unfulfilled talent simply because he didn't dominate world football for as long as he was projected to. But I'm not teaching here today. Anyways, Neymar's ability was once classified as iffy by some people. Even Joey Barton called him a YouTube talent simply because his first season in Europe was subpar. Some dolts on here even compared him to Eden Hazard. I am sure when he becomes WPOTY say 2017 the same people will claim Neymar was always the best player in Barca and forget how great Messi was/is. |
Dhelake:Because every superstar thrives under every manager Including KDB and Sturridge or wait...those ones don't have enough greatness within them to thrive under Onigbinde. |
Dhelake:CR7 had his best scoring season under Carlo Ancelotti. CR7 praised Carlo during his Ballon'dor acceptance speech by subtly acknowledging how Carlo helped him win it. But kiss Mou's ar$e because that's what we are here for. |
PietroRico:Neymar is Barca's best player this season. But ofcourse Messi is still the overall best player in Barcelona. I am sure you know the difference or I can break it down for you. Willian is CFCs best player this season but Hazard is the overall best player for CFC. |
SIRcumalot:Lies. WYC 05 Messi, Mikel and Taiye Taiwo. All 3 are supposed to be age mates. Only Messi goes on to prove his worth. |
Debroslink:Rio Ferdinand in his autobiography said when United got CR7 2003 and Rooney 2004, himself and Scholes felt Rooney was better based on what they saw during trainings. CR7 had talent but he read the game poorly: dribbled when he was to pass, couldn't head a ball to save his life. Was skinny and his goal scoring was abysmal. Nothing about CR7 showed that he will be a prolific goal scorer. A great winger, yes, but not one of the best players to ever grace the game. That's where Fergie helped him. Every other thing you saw of CR7 post-United, is as a result of having better players to help him in a "less competitive" league. The hardwork had been done by Fergie and even Mou said it on arriving at RM. |
hariorh:Wow. Just wow. There is a 2-hr documentary on Messi that enjoyed alot of airplay. It involved even videos of him as a young child in Rosario Argentina as well reenactments of certain moments not captured on video. Current players like Masche, Pique as well as oldies like Cryuff also gave inputs. Messi's father, brothers, Aunts, even his current wife gave different accounts never heard or read anywhere before. ALL of them and I mean ALL of them (including Aunts) said Messi's game changed under Pep. They basically give Pep the credit for Messi. Freddie Adu was once touted as the brightest young talent of his generation. How did he develop since then? Odengaard of RM is highly rated, so if Benitez makes him the focal point of RMs attacks and he scores 50 goals in one season, we would say Benitez didn't develop him simply because he was already rated? Fergie made CR7 who he is. Pep did same for Messi. End of. |
Spy360:He is not lying abeg. Even Messi says it. Tomorrow if Depay starts scoring a ton of goals and dominates world football for 5 years. You people will claim he was always a superstar and that no manager helped him. |
lalaboi:Ok @ bigkesh. I Keep conflating the names. Yes he Inherited the best team at the time that he did. Best team because of their achievements the season before. Did virtually almost the same thing with Jupp except win the UCL. |
lalaboi:Please let's rest this. Pep broke all those records apart from winning the UCL. The only difference being that people expected that to happen more than they did in Jupp's last season. A40 just told you that Dortmund overtook Bayern from 8 or 11 points behind if my memory serves me well. So seeing them 12points ahead means nothing abeg. BTW Pep had agreed with Bayern beginning of 2013 season. Bayern announced Jupp's retirement for him. He didn't even know he was retiring (I kid you not)People forget Bayern had reliquinshed a treble winning position the season before they actually did. Lost both league and cup to Dortmund and then the UCL to Chelsea. The Bayern board were dissatisfied. The only reason Jupp wasn't fired that season end was because Pep asked for a year to learn some German. So they left Jupp as an interim manager. The only thing they didn't know was that he would end up winning a treble. Like I said before, had they known, they won't have hired Pep. |
Chelseafan1:Yea I agree. That should have been for Lalaboi. Sorry. Doesn't detract from the fact that being the best team in your league’s history guarantees anything. Did Moyes not inherit the "best" team? Abeg. Miss me with the illogic. |
Chelseafan1:The Illogic wey fill this post dey weak me. I don't wanna derail it too much, only chipped in a little to correct some false statements. Lyon is one of the best teams in Ligue un history but they are not the best team today. PSG is. Same with United and LFC, but today, common sense says we either call the "official best" or the current best. It is simple and in that case either Chelsea or Leicester will do fine. Doesn't mean City may not go on to win the EPL. CR7 is the best player in the world until FIFA announce Messi as the best. Or Neymar is the best player in the world currently. I will be amiss to say Pelé or Maradona is the best. Hope you understand. So in the same vein, Bayern wasn't the best team in the league 2 years before Pep came. And that statement that Bayern would've done the treble is even more false than all your previous statements. Remind me of the season when RM went on a run of 22wins and everyone thought they would do a treble? Yea...Barca ended up doing that treble. That's football. |
A40:Yea, true. Thanks. |
Chelseafan1:The emboldened are lies from the pit of hell. Barca finished 2nd and 3rd in the seasons before Pep. Bayern finished 2nd and 2nd before it was announced that Pep will take the job. Jupp only overachieved before he left. If Jupp had had that level of success before 2013, Bayern won't have hired Pep. City are not the best team in the EPL. Either Chelsea or right now (Leicester). Any other thing is a feeble attempt at pseudo-intellectualism. |
knightsTempler:Did you write this yourself? Geez. You write so well. |
A40:Please help me tell them. I am getting irked beyond words. |
3. Kachikwu was intended to fill the NNPC position. Let us put a rest to the floating rumors of how Obama asked PMB to employ him and what not. On the eve of the announcement of Kachikwu's appointment, the general diagnosis about the ills of the Nigerian oil industry was that there was a thriving lack of synergy between the Petroleum Minister and the NNPC GMDs and seeing that the PM sat on the board of the NNPC each GMD was forced to do his or her bidding with the consequence being, getting fired if the GMD didn't yield. It is very similar to how a lack of working relationship between the NSA and the service chiefs cost the latter their jobs in the previous govt. It is rumuored that Kachikwu initially resisted the post of NNPC GMD citing his fear that he could be at cross-purposes with the PM and in that case the PM could easily fire him. So PMB assured him that he will leave him incharge of both offices so as not to compromise the GMDs policy directions. Ofcourse it is an onerous task and I am sure Kachikwu may eventually appoint a trusted hand to relieve him of that position at NNPC but not soon as alot is to be done. There is reason to believe my assertions as during Kachikwu's screening by the NA he said "this will be the first time that if something goes wrong in the Petroleum sector, it will not be the president's fault". To me, this alludes to the fact that the president has entrusted the petroleum sector into his charge. Someone may choose to say how can 1 man have such power in the sector? Well, the PIB that would've been passed by successive National assemblies granted even powers greater than this to the minister. The issue with Nigeria has never really been about laws and Acts but about the personality handling such and the rightful implementation of such laws and Acts. Going by PMBs antecedents it is clear when he trusts some people he tends to saddle them with a lot of responsibilities for e.g, Fashola as Minister for Works, Power and Housing. NB: The prestige of being the NNPC GMD is unrivalled as you control more resources than all the state governors put together. I haven't even mentioned that you are the cash cow for the country and are responsible for laying the golden eggs. See how Kachikwu sat at the head of the OPEC meeting in Vienna as the President and everyone listened to him. He would never have had such access as a VP in Exxon. Never. |
2. I already predicted Q1 2016 for the tentative continuation of the recruitment process and I didn't need to ask any connect to assert so. That's an aside. The notion that the recruitment process is predicated on the non-promotion of staff and indeterminate number of vacancies is a bit iffy if you ask me. You do realize some of the GTs of 2012 have left to some other MNCs or Indigenous companies for better pay? Sadly (but not inadmissible) is that some may have died. This fact already screams VACANCIES and DAM and co realized this before 2015 (and even when Oil prices had dipped) hence we wrote the aptitude tests in December of 2014. 3. Telling us Dr. Kachikwu earns less than he did at Exxon is a bit hackneyed. It is like saying water is wet. What was challenged here is the talk that his pay at Exxon needed to be divided by 4 to get what he currently earns. a) Nobody gagged him to be NNPC GMD, he could have negotiated his pay. b) when he made that statement he made it in relation to his driver at Exxon and how he asked him to move over to NNPC with him but his driver refused on 2 reasons one of which was his pay grade. Ofcourse, you don't expect NNPC to pay drivers as much as Exxon pays them. Labor laws constraining MNCs don't apply to government-run companies like NNPC. |
@postulates You sound informed and you write well so I am guessing you have a good head on your shoulders plus you get your "gist" from people who work within the sector. Ofcourse, like everything on earth your assertions aren't error-proof but we appreciate them nonetheless. I have a few reservations with your post and I will make them known in plain terms. 1. Your reason that the recruitment is cancelled because the GGMs/GMs etc. chairing such positions are retired is hollow on the basis that whether they were still in service or not, their influence hadn't been implemented as the recruitment had just proceeded the test writing stage. You'd have made more sense if we had done the interviews and expected feedback. 1b. Another thing that I find misplaced is the DAM and allegations of supplanting the list with her candidates. The question is, what list? There was no list because the only list that should have existed is the list of those who were scheduled to be interviewed. So was DAM supplanting prospective interviewees with hers? Makes no sense either. 1c. Really? Management of NNPC will resist her? Management of NNPC will stall recruitment because of DAMs impending mago-mago? Which Holier-than-thou Management is that one? Never has that been heard of in the history of NNPC and certainly not in the last "stealing is not corruption" govt. So again, I respectfully disagree with the allegations. I will continue my rejoinder in a separate post so as to avoid making this one lengthy. |
Wait, was Dasuki not innocent and being witch-hunted? LOL. APC wanted you to support Slyva because when you supported GEJ he won? And for those saying intelligent response, you think him or his laywer wrote this? |
What PUNCH really want is for PMB to wave a magic wand and "voila" everything will be ok. It works in Ayamantanga's legerdemain world, but in the real world, it will be gradual, topsy-turvy and conscientious. Those of us who can see beyond our noses celebrate it for the intent and imminent success that it is going to be, but no bets are on, that some other cry babies will not call it snail-like and ineffectual. The reason is simple: Nigerians don't really want a change. We are only looking for how that change benefits me, myself and I. That's why you can see former-progressives who at, the slightest impression that their fortunes are about to change begin to pontificate and cast baseless aspersions. Highlighting all the seeming failures of this present govt and downplaying their evident success. It is a rite of passage. The long and short of things is this. As long as oil prices do not go up to 110$/bbl that it used to be, it will be economically impossible for our Naira to wrestle back it's stance with the dollar- and it is not PMBs duty to help the price of oil go up. Even if (and as he promised) he tries to diversify the economy, how will that happen? He will command the economy to be diversified? Secondly, the author of this shallow editorial should quit the chronological gymnastics of relating events from April to November. PMB cannot even be said to have been president any earlier than June 1st and in that time when power improved and PMS wasn't scarce, this same wailers wanted all the credit to go to their hero while they conveniently blamed PMB for his lack of ministers and appendages. Now he has ministers and they still want to blackmail him by telling him about his itineraries and the shortfalls of the Naira. The author had the effrontery to mention that 32% of 2016s budget will come from borrowing but didn't mention that we have no other means except that to help nor did he mention that the essence of borrowing is to help with the economic diversification plans and not to pay salaries like the previous govt was doing. Abeg, give me a break. If Rwanda and Peru are so much better, take the next flight and move there. Stop with this bull in the name of criticizing. |
jamanuka:1. Heavy borrowing is what your hero did for 6 years. Never mind the fact that Nigeria sold crude for 110$/bbl in the intervening years. So miss me with your illogic of how this present govt is relying on heavy borrowing. 2. TSA is enmeshed in the constitution. There's no obeisance for anyone who asks that it be implemented. No, the person who gets the praise is the one who actually did. "Asking to do" and "actually doing" the operative phrases wailers seem to Stevie wonder about. 2b. As for the ghostworkers fib. Make I park car to LOL. Weed off ghostworkers and yet increase budget to the same MDAs and ministries? Where a sub-office of the ONSA is getting 50B Naira as budget when the main ONSA received only 25B Naira? When the DPR with more staff than both offices put together gets 35B Naira annual budget? Talk about quasi-heroes and inverse achievers. 3. Again with the cheap blackmail of economy this and economy that. Investor this and investor that. Just mention one investor that has left the shores because of the new govt and stop throwing bafflegab around hoping it would catch. 4. Vintage closer. I would've been scared if you didn't end your piece on that note. 6 years of rancid air and you lot wanted to give the same knave another 4 years. But 7 months into this new govt and all hell should break loose. Seeing beyond the red mist should be a degree on it's own because many need it but few are willing to shelve their preconceptions to get it. |
PassingShot:Wrong. The court only said they had no jurisdiction to instruct INEC on what to do. Only the tribunal, Appeal court and Supreme Court can, following the proceedings. 1. Even though your point 1 is plausible and fair it is inappropriate for the time because the doctrine of necessity should have been implemented instead of wasting tax-payer's money to conduct UNNECESSARY supplementary elections. 2. Absolutely flawed. GEJ didn't participate in primary elections in 2007 but was sworn in as the president. Audu being alive or dead right now is immaterial. What role would he have played leading to the supplementary elections? INEC should have gone on to conduct the supplementary elections as though Audu was still alive and then declared him the governor whilst Faleke is sworn in. 3. In Kogi a winner should have emerged. Audu met all the conditions as stipulated by the constitution and electoral act. INEC should have declared him the elected Governor whilst disagreeing factions should have gone to the Tribunal to challenge it (which they would have failed). INEC caused this mess. |
tuale4u:He completed his tenure 2007 and was appointed interim NSA between 2007-2008 I think. I also do not think that the house in question is an official residence (except I am wrong). The account says it is one of the perks of retiring as DG of SSS- you are allowed to select one location anywhere in Nigeria to live that will be funded for by the SSS. Most heads of such parastatals enjoy such benefits. It is not unusual. |
Oguguah:I agree. |
Saturn213:If other previous DGs of SSS enjoyed same privilege, then Col. Are's shouldn't be any different. I am a staunch supporter of PMB but I will not support these perceived acts of vengeance by Daura if the account above is true. |
