Dbnagato: They put so many reasons at the back of the letter of refusal but they didn't tick any one of the reasons. Btw all my documents are legit and what is a GCMS file I am not an expert, but if I was the VO, I'd probably have rejected your application as well. Don't jump on me- it's a fact. 1. Your sponsor's SOA will pay for your tuition but in the system of things, it appears low. I know your uncle will foot all your bills when you are over there but I think that's the first thing a VO might find off putting. In other words, you would be too dependent on someone over there, which they translate as you straining on their system as against adding to it. 2. You are currently undergoing a BSc in Nigeria and it is clear you are not done with it yet you are opting to go out. To them it appears like you have no plans of returning. They will couple this with the fact that you have an uncle who has a house and project it to mean, you'd have a house, and food, so nothing is stopping you from forgetting school and just working menial jobs whilst there. Perhaps, to correct their impression I will advice that you upped your SOA regardless of if you'd depend on your uncle whilst there. The point is, you want a VO to not tick financial deficiency as a reason for denial. I'd also advice that you wrote a good SOP capturing how the course you are reading in UNIPORT was not your first choice and how that the Uni of Regina? would offer you what you truly intended on studying. I feel obliged to reiterate that I am no expert. Just giving a cursory analysis of your application. |

Nigerians are extremely wicked people in heart and mind. That's my conclusion. Everyone will toss out sound reasoning to see a beautiful and successful person suffer. In fact, it gives them pleasure.
1. So Ibinabo that was coming out of Lekki Phase one all of a sudden veered off to the Ajah lane, killing someone on the other side..and then some how found her way to st. Nicolas' hospital that is in a totally different direction from Ajah.
2. So highly intoxicated Ibinabo had enough commonsense and prescence of mind to call Danny Wilson to come to help her escape. And he had enough time to summon police officers, rush to the scene..remove the plate numbers and registration, then put Ibinabo into a taxi for st. Nicolas' hospital while he went back home.
3. So all the apologies and advances Ibinabo made towards the deceased's family, to placate them, all counted for nothing. Being physically present at his funeral, making donations etc. All went unnoticed?
Wow. Nigerians are really wicked people.

Fanirandele: There is a range of sentencing for each crime and the judge will decides on sentencing based on the particulars of the case. It's the perpetrators choice to impact negatively on their family by their action unlike the victim. The judge listened to everything and made his judgement based on evidence. The were witnesses so she couldn't run away, people identified her.
By the way the law is more lenient on those who have accidents while not drinking. Drunk driving is a decision and not a mistake Accidents that happen from drink-driving are accidents and not decisions. Pro causa, non causa. |

Fanirandele: Brandy was not drunk or at least they were not able to prove that but Ibinabo was proven to be drunk so it's different. If she had the accident while sober the sentencing would have been more lenient. The west is very strict on sentences for manslaughter while drunk driving For people who have a habit of getting drunk (and it must be proved by the prosecution), yes. Apart from beer-parlour gossip we cannot ascertain that is the case with Ibinabo. Brandy was over speeding and I am very sure the American law frowns upon overspeeding that led to the death of someone else. |

Fanirandele: When murderers go to jail it does not bring the dead back, when rapists go to jail it does not reverse the rape. The point of law is to hold people responsible for their actions so 2mwr someone else will think twice before driving drunk. If there are no consequences everyone can as well go around driving drunk and killing people The essence of giving murderers death or life sentences is the law's way of saying "since you deliberately took another man's life, we are deliberately taking yours". The law should always be interpreted by the spirit behind it and not mechanically. |

Fanirandele: She didn't kill him on purpose which is why she's getting 5yrs as opposed to what actual murderers get. At the end of the day her lack of responsibility led to the death of a man . The sentence is for manslaughter which is what she's been found guilty of , there is no emotions there. The law is not interested in if she attended parties or not, when found guilty of a crime there's usually a minimum and maximum sentence applicable depending on the crime. The judge decides based in that,I don't believe she's even been given the maximum sentence which shows they took things into consideration . Not all manslaughter cases are for 5 years. The law is not a mechanical tool that must turn in one direction. You can't just look at the impact it made to the victim's family. Her's has to be considered too. And we wonder why people would rather hit and run than stay, own up to the crime and be sentenced for 5 years. |

mfm04622: Is there punishment in Nigerian law for involuntary manslaughter? There is. Was so tried in a competent court of law? Yes. Was she found guilty? Yes. Was she sentenced? Yes, to 5 years OR a fine of 100,0000. There is no fine for manslaughter in Nigerian law! So the State Govt appealed against the fine. Now she has been ordered to serve her time. What is wrong in the State appealing against unlawful order by the trial court? Let her serve her punishment for manslaughter as envisaged by the court. Simple The state appealing the sentence is what I find most incredulous. It beggars reasoning. Once she was seen as guilty by the court that is when the state should have made a case for the sentence. If after the sentence, the state feels she deserved more, then to me that is just reckless pandering by the court. How can the court claim there is no fine for manslaughter in Nigerian law? So if she had a burst tyre that caused her to swerve and kill the victim, she should not pay a fine but instead go to jail for 5 years and that's justice? |

Her punishment should be worthy of the crime not over it. 5 years after so many years is harsh. A fine is the only thing that can make a difference. |

Fanirandele: You are the one acting emotional here, the law is the law and the law has found her quilty and sentenced her. The appeal and supereme Courts are there to review mistakes made by lowers courts. That is the case in all countries. The man was on his was home from night duty. When the courts jail murders, rapists e.tc their family will lose them but in that case it's the persons choice that led to that unlike the Doctor going about his business. We may as well let all criminals off so their families won't lose them Abi There is no option of fine for killing someone under the influence of alcohol or drugs which is why the appeal four over turned the jugement, clearly the magistrate judge may have been compromised. When a person willing gets behind the wheel while drunk and chooses to deliberately endanger the lives of others they must serve their time. There is nothing about this that is eye services, this is the normal thing that is obtainable in civilized countries.
The prison time is to serve as a deterrent for others who choose to drive while drunk, now some will think twice before destroying other people's lives. That is the whole point of prison, that is what makes people in society act right. For her also, it will be a good period for her to think about the consequences of her actions. I think you are getting things conflated. Rapists and murderers don't commit their crimes by happenstance, that's why they are charged under the provisions of first degree murder or rape cases. In her case, she committed involuntary manslaughter. She did not set out to have him killed, her negligence and carelessness caused his death. Should the law take it's toll, sure, but not under emotive guises. That's my argument. Did she flee the scene? Did she blame the deceased? Did she protest her innocence? The answer to all these questions is NO. Yet what you hear in the media space is that she wasn't acting remorseful because she posts pics of her daughter in the USA or that she attends functions and events? Does this make sense to you? |

Galaxystars: Greetings to Everyone here...
I want to submit my app. But There is an error in the date of birth on my WaEC certificate 26th feb 1990 Instead of 21st feb 1990.
My questions is should I submit it like that despite the inconsistency or should I leave it out? I'm going for M.A Please help me make this crucial decision. Going back to WAEC is an absolute waste of time and they will in the same token waste your time before getting the emendations done (i.e if they ever will). The error on your certificate is based on dates of the same month and year so it is easier to explain. WAEC simply misrepresented the dates and you can make your case either with an adjointed letter or an affidavit. I am assuming you have your original birth certificate, your international passport and any other strong document that depicts 21st of February as the real date. Don't avoid using the WAEC as it is an internationally recognised document and some VOs like seeing it because it has helped expose some age cheats in the past. |

newgroom: We have a great problem in this country. I keep on saying, the death of Gani has put the lid on human right activism in this country. I am yet to see any other person that is as objective, as fair, as apolitical and as unbiased.
Because you call yourself a celebrity, you have the temerity to DUI - an action that led to the death of a medical doctor. Yet some people are not ashamed enough to sermonise us she has learnt her lesson. We should pray for her.. blah.. blah..blah.. They are even clamouring for the collection of 1m signatures. For what? So she can be left off the hook? If the victim is your family member, would you have maintained this position?
Consider an innocent man who invested 7 years of his life in the university only for your to cut short his life like that because of your carelessness. He left behind a wife, children, parents and other relatives. The wife became a widow and the children; fatherless. The parents lost their son and the family, their breadwinner. Now you don't want to take consequences for your action because of the condition of the prison. I ask, do you know the condition of where this man is today? Do you know what the family is passing through? Dr. Giwa naa fe e se baba awon omo e pe na. O fee se oko iyawo e titi di ojo ogbo. Oun naa fee gbehin awon arugbo re fa. Now all these have become history.
From my observation of this lady, she has not learnt her lesson. She has refused to lie low and continue to behave in the public as if "noting spoil". She has refused to understand that anytime she's in the new, the family hurts. Her public comportment is as if she's not bothered. DUI is a great offence. In fact that 5 years, to me, is not enough. Let her go and serve it.
This is not about anything but justice. The family deserves justive. The state deserves justice. Let this serve as deterrent to others who think they can do anything and get away with it. Just like we are clamouring for the prosecution of Pastor TB Joshua, we are also clamouring that justice should be done in the case of Ibinabo and the State. What is sauce for the goose must also be, for the gander.
If you must drink, drink yourself to stupor but please stay indoor. Emotive trash. You even called the deceased "Innocent". What is to say he wasn't on his way to kill a debtor or that he would not have an accident that would have taken someone else's life say 2 months after that day? Did Ibinabo set out on that very day to kill him? So his family lost a breadwinner, a brother, father, one who gave 7 years of his life to becoming a doctor, but her family won't lose anybody when she goes to jail? Her husband won't lose a wife? Her kids won't lose a mum? I thought you were saying what is sauce for the Goose is sauce for the Gander? Why the glaring hypocrisy? The only thing that can be determined as justice will be what the law has to say about involuntary manslaughter. If the option of a fine was available and the first court issued that, then there is no need for the emotional hot air you are spewing. She is guilty of the crime, but should not be a reckless victim of judicial eye-service and pandering. |
Celebrities › Re: Appeal-Court Sends Ibinabo Fiberesima To Jail by Eruditor: 12:39pm On Mar 12, 2016 |
Nigerians and wickedness. We enjoy seeing someone else suffer, it is crazy.
Did Ibinabo come up with her own 100k fine or was it not the magistrate court that came up with that figure?
If they did, how did they come up with it? If they followed the law, then what right does the appeal court have to overturn the same law and ask for jail term instead?
Since when did a jail term become the only means of settlement for a case of involuntary manslaughter? Abi is it not clear that Ibinabo did not set out on that particular day to go and Kill the medical doctor?
Since when did the law allow someone to appeal the sentence metted out to the defendant? I thought the court had already pronounced her guilty? Did she deny culpability? Did she not accept guilt and proceed to take the option of the fine? If the fine is not commensurate, why not raise it? What will her jail term do for anyone?
People are talking about justice. That the medical doctor lost his life, his family lost a father and a brother etc. Which is very true. But will that not be the case if Ibinabo goes to jail for 5 years? Won't she lose a husband, 3 or is it 4 kids? Her own livelihood?
Since when did this become true justice?
So for close to 11 years the trauma of killing someone is not enough punishment? Of paying lawyers to handle the case, going to many radio stations in tears and appealing to the bereaved, having that cloud of darkness and stigma for taking someone else's life- is not commensurate punishment fit for the crime?
Please give me a break. The Appeal court should take several sits. This is just a case of playing to the gallery. |

But still though, if anyone can beat them in the west in a seven game series, it is between okc, Spurs, and clippers. A perfect game would be needed by the way. Please, the 2 highlighted teams can't beat a drum. Skywalker5: I don't think the warriors can break that record but we will see. The warriors are a good team but i won't say great. This warrior's game is one direction.Three points. Look at what happened when they played against the Lakers. Curry will be regarded as a three point great because that what he is doing all the time. I like his game but you should understand that other teams are not dumb. They will find a way to shut Klay and Curry down very soon. They can't keep relying on Three points. I still believe they need someone in center position.Andrew and Festus are okay but i think come playoff time, they will struggle. They won the championship because nobody expected them to win at all but this time, everyone will be on their tail.I might be wrong on what i am saying but Draymond green needs to be MVP mode come playoff time if they want another championship. He is hustler for the team. The remaining guys are just running around for Curry and Klay to make shots. 1. They can. What will determine it now is complacency. At this stage they are still leading the 95/96 Bulls and guess what people said in 95/96? That the Bulls played too many expansion teams. Everyone wants to claim their generation was better. 2. The warriors are a great team. Lakers of 2000-2003 didn't look like they would win 70 games. Lakers of the 80s as well as the Celtics of the 80s didn't win 70 games. They all averaged 66-69 games and this GSW team did 67 last year. Wonder why people say they didn't expect them to still win the NBA finals. 2b. GSW are not a one dimensional team. Every team in the NBA shoots 3s. Some are just better than others at it. The game against the Lakers was a fluke. Curry and Thompson don't shoot 1/18. Curry has more 3s in the last 2 seasons than Jordan managed in his whole career. 3. To shut Curry down, convince him his shooting is poor and intercept all his passes. What are the odds of that happening consistently? Your guess is as good as mine. 4. I agree with Festus and Bogut because they are not scoring machines but what they lack in scoring they make up for in defence (Festus) and assists (Bogut). Good rotation and implementation is all they need. 5. GSW won the championships last time because they were the best team both in the regular season and in the playoffs- simple. Last time Spurs peeped Miami they did it because they shot better especially from the perimeters. Same as Dallas. |

I was fully in support of this move but legal channels need to be followed to do the right things, had even thought with Kachukwu's assertion of them breaking the PIB into smaller chunks, they had addressed this unbundling issue at the NASS on a low key. If they haven't done the right thing then they should go back to the drawing board, invite all stakeholders, take into consideration their inputs and ensure that the process is transparent and in line with the law. Nairalanders! Take note of double-sided men who speak from both sides of their mouths. They don't need the national assembly as the names, operations and even workforce of the NNPC didn't change. If you flout lawful processes because you are doing something right, failure awaits you at the end point. Buhari must exploit the law to effect changes, not his will. This same careless behavior was what gave him a bad name during his military stint. Your hypocrisy reeks. If their grouse was that due process was not followed, is a strike also a due-process way of itemizing their grouse? You can't flout the law, and ask the same law to speak for you.
