BlindAngel: Thanks for your input, what I actually meant is that she insist on her pastor officiating the naming ceremony. Which she's always crying endlessly whenever we start arguing about It. It's obvious you guys did not agree on denomination before getting married. What were you both discussing during courtship? If you guys were focused during courtship, you'd have agreed about denomination among others. Go back to the drawing board and discuss church issues critically. I see her insisting that the children be going to this pastor's church later. Was he only her pastor? |

Lawly: I felt am in love and overlooked her issues. But after proposing and going to see her people, that's when her demanding attitudes and stubborn insistence that my baby brother should leave started. It's becoming a horror to me now that she might not care about me. Even knowing that am currently jobless but am the hustling type as well and that I have been struggling hard to meet the demands of bride price and lists from her people and all the expenses to be made all alone on me, she's still making annoying demands and adding expenses I must make for her personally despite the fact that I have told her to pipe low her demands until the marriage is over considering that am the only one shouldering the expenses alone and am not expecting help from anywhere as no one is there to help me. Why are you shouldering the expenses ALONE? Then you get married to her, impregnate her and boom a 3rd mouth to feed aside extended family. The economy is HARD, don't add a BRAWLING wife to it. Is she gainfully employed? What is she bringing to the table to ensure the success of the union? |

What are their pastors preaching in church that she can't love Testimony like her child. I'm chided for how I treat my son's nanny (they say I pamper her, don't discipline her....). My response to them is that I treat her like I would treat myself. She's not perfect as she was caught by my cousin beating my son and I addressed it among other issues. I am of the opinion that if you treat them well, you get better service and for the greater good of your household. |

Gerrard59: Mr franchasofficia has thoroughly explained what you need to know. My interest is the bold. Inasmuch as it is good for children to take care of their children, today's parents shouldn't wish to depend on those children for economic survival in their elderly state. I understand the structure of Nigeria's economy doesn't fully cater for pension (assuming successive govts don't squander everything), but by depending on the children, you make it difficult for them to build their economic bases. Also, you cannot predict what tomorrow's economy will look like. Those who had children during the early '90s still have to contribute to their children's stability or contribute to their well-being. Additionally, culture changes. In my opinion, the generation that will assist their parents willingly and happily is mine. The present Gen-Zs will be hesitant or some will outrightly say no.
So, it is important you plan your retirement especially as na man you be. Also, no born plenty children. That is where the economics of childbearing and raising come to play. My single sister is a Gen Z and doesn't support my parents to my expectation knowing her income level. I'm not looking forward to my children as retirement plan. |
Romance › Re: Nairaland Fathers In The House Pls I Need Your Wise Counselling. by Esthered: 8:32am On Jul 04, 2024 |
Gerrard59: The thing here is that Nigerians nay Africans marry for childbearing sake, not companionship. That is why they practice marry today, born tomorrow ideology. How many Nigerian newly wedded couples would intentionally postpone childbearing for at least two years? And the main koko is that they like to born plenty children scatter everywhere. Born two now, two years never reach, another two don drop. Then they blame Tinubu. I'm honored to be mentioned by you. You're right about our marriage being primarily for childbearing. If you haven't conceived, you'll be asked the reason for the delay. I usually reply them asking if they'll take responsibility when the child comes and they laugh saying God will provide. I still try to phantom how couples seeing their low income mekwe anyhow and not take caution. They claim that it's good to have a good number of them as you don't know how many will succeed. |

ITbomb: 2+1 Wow. I still tell people that my one year delay in conception was worth it as we weren't buoyant to cater for an additional person. After delivery, I had to get a maid as I was going to resume work meaning another cost burden. We currently have 2 persons for each child (long story). Please don't downplay the importance of money. Children brings blessings no doubt but sir that prudent wife has breaking point if the resources are inadequate and can affect milk supply to her breast. If a man is taking the right steps about his finances (upskilling, additional income, good job....), let him go ahead and not burden his family mbok. If my only sibling dares to get married with no good income, I would not support her. |

ITbomb: Forget about those saying you must make money first.
1. Have a regular income plus some side hustle 2. Don't marry just because of love, marry who respect you and you respect her (ie her decision making, dressing, communication etc) 3. Your wife must have these qualities Contentment: content but always aspiring to be better Respect: more important than love Peace of mind: she should be your sanctuary Skill: either employed or have a money making skill Fruitful: to reduce your prayer points
The more you make money, the more you find out that you need more money and na so time dey go Do you have children? |
Romance › Re: Nairaland Fathers In The House Pls I Need Your Wise Counselling. by Esthered: 3:00am On Jul 04, 2024 |
Dear OP, children are COST INTENSIVE PROJECT and not age incentive project. If you're financially prepared, you wouldn't create this thread. The average cost of a baby monthly for someone on a low budget is diapers 10,000 Formula 38000 if it's not exclusive bf. Others like wipes, soap, cream, detergent.... 5000 to 10000. About 60k monthly, you've not added education savings, hospital funds..... I have a 2 yrs old and a 6 months old. Even a good woman will be frustrated if there's no money. She has to eat nutritious food to feed the baby and it must be budgeted for. It's good to be optimistic but what if the child is a special one health wise, you'll incur more cost. In summary, please look at your income before bringing the child into the world. Even my Bible says who builds a house without counting the cost. |
