@titiloyeblog.com A Magistrates’ Court in Minna, Niger State, on Thursday ordered that a painter, Zubairu Apaila, be remanded in prison, for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl. The police charged Apaila, 23, with three counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a child; exposure of a child to narcotics and prohibition of a child from attending and remaining in school. Magistrate Mariam Kings ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison, due to the gravity of the offense. Kings adjourned the case till June 11, for further mention. Prosecuting Inspector Aliyu Yakubu had told the court that the mother of the victim, Mrs. Talatu Manga of Rafin Yashi, Minna, reported the matter at the Child’s Rights Agency, which later referred the matter to the police on May 17. He said the complainant alleged that the defendant lured her daughter, 17, into his room at Tudun Fulani and raped her. Yakubu noted that during police investigation, the police discovered that from January to date, the defendant had introduced the girl to smoking cigarettes. He alleged that the defendant also stopped the victim from going to school during the period. The offense, he said, contravened sections 18 (2), 14 (2) and 17 (3) of the Child Rights Law of Niger State 2010. The prosecutor prayed the court for an adjournment to enable police complete investigations into the matter. Apaila, however, pleaded not guilty. source: https://www.titiloyeblog.com/2019/05/court-remands-painter-for-raping-17.html Cc: Lalasticlala, Mynd44

@titiloyeblog.com A doctor has been arrested and is under investigation for allegedly infecting hundreds of children in a single Pakistani city with HIV by reusing syringes. Muzaffar Ghangro, who has AIDs, was accused by at least 10 families of infecting their children with HIV in Ratodero, in Sindh province, Pakistan. But Ghangro has denied the charges, saying he didn't do anything intentionally. In the past month, more than 600 people, most of them children between one month and 15 years old, have been diagnosed with HIV in the area in what has become an HIV epidemic. According to reports from NPR and the Associated Press, parents in April began to notice lasting fevers in their children and took them to a nearby medical center for testing. By around April 24, 15 children ages 2 to 8 had tested positive for HIV. Local officials then set up a camp where children and their parents could be screened for the virus and the results were alarming. As of mid-May, 410 children and 100 adults in Larkana, a city in Pakistan’s Sindh province, had tested positive for HIV, the Associated Press reported. Those numbers have since climbed to 494 children and 113 adults, according to NPR. The recent outbreak is now also being linked to major failures in the health care system, according to NPR. Most doctors in the town are untrained and many practice folk medicine and diseases are often spread through the reuse of syringes, piercings are done with unsanitary equipment, and a lack of standards for blood transfusions. @titiloyeblog.com It was an emotional session spiced with some drama. The President recalled that some cabinet ministers with whom he started the journey were not at yesterday’s valedictory session. And ministers took turns to relive their experiences with him. The ministers are to handover their portfolios on May 28. President Buhari gave the directive during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) valedictory session at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Handover notes, he said, should be submitted to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha. The President said: “Some of our colleagues, with whom we started this journey, unfortunately, are not here to join us in celebrating our successes. Specifically, I must recognise our late brother, James Ocholi SAN who passed away in a fearful motor accident with his wife, Blessing and son, Joshua only four months after being sworn in as a minister.” The President hinted of why he did not reshuffle the cabinet for four years. He said: “We inherited a broken economy, which eventually went into recession in the second quarter of Fiscal Year 2016. The situation was further compounded by insecurity and massive corruption. “Many would have given up. Indeed, many outside commentators said our situation was hopeless. However, we all came together and pushed forward to deliver our campaign promise to rescue our country from its parlous state. ”Although we all had a common vision, we frequently had heated debates in this room on the best way to achieve our goals. These differing views are what made the decisions we took all the more rational. “It is this quality that made me retain my cabinet for the full term. Each of you in this room has a unique skill and strength. We are a reflection of Nigeria we aspire to achieve. “I want you all to leave this meeting proud to have served your nation to the best of your ability. You should be proud to have been part of the government that liberated the local governments previously under Boko Haram rule. “You should be proud to have contributed to our food security and economic diversification agenda which led to the revival of our rural agrarian economy. ”You should be proud to have been part of the team that developed the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan which led Nigeria exiting its worst recession in decades.” Vice President Yemi Osinbajo thanked President Buhari for the opportunity to serve as his deputy and as his running mate twice. He said: “I thank Almighty God for preserving our lives to serve our nation this past four years. I will like to thank Mr. President for the opportunity to serve as your vice president and your running mate twice. My deepest gratitude comes from the great trust that you reposed in me at all times.” All the 31 ministers in the Council chamber took turns to thank the President for finding them worthy of their appointments in the past three and a half years. Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi thanked Buhari for the opportunity to serve in the cabinet. Minister of Education Adamu Adamu warned that Nigeria may become worse than in 2015 if the person that would succeed President Buhari in 2023 has no integrity. According to him, Nigeria has never been lucky to have a good combination of Buhari and Osinbajo. Minister of State for Agriculture Heineken Lokpobiri said: “Mr. President, let me join my colleagues in thanking you for appointing me a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. What I have learnt in the last three and a half years I have not learnt in my 12 years as a parliamentarian. I was a speaker in Bayelsa State of Assembly in 1999. I was a senator in 2007 to 2015 but the last three and half years cannot be equalled to what I learnt as a member of the cabinet.” Minister of Finance Zainab Ahmed said: “Wealth of knowledge, skills and experience that we have been compelled to learn from each other. For me, every encounter I had with Mr. President is like going to school.” Minister of Petroleum Ibe Kachikwu said: “My appointment was unique because prior to now I had never been in politics prior to my appointment. Unlike many people, I didn’t know Mr. President directly but you gave me the twin portfolios of managing director of NNPC and minister of state (Petroleum). This put on me the responsibility to try and cleanse that ministry so that it will be useful to Nigerians. “I have had the unique privilege of working with Mr President directly; different from being my president, he was my direct boss. In that prior, we had worked together to deal with many problems that beset that industry. Problems of fuel scarcity, dwindling production, transparency, the crisis in the Niger Delta and fiscal federalism and the TSA ultimately captured most of the earnings of this country from that sector.” Minister of Niger Delta Affairs Usani Uguru said: “I have seen the passion of Mr President trying to get the ministers. I have seen Mr President try to make the minister comfortable but the laws or lack of laws have not allowed it, in this case leaving us with so many sacrifices as ministers. In this sacrifice, we have had a lot to learn, which has enriched my experience.” Foreign Affairs Minister Geoffrey Onyeama thanked the president for the opportunity. He said: “Thank you for the opportunity, despite the fact you didn’t know me from Adam. But your leadership has been such that you treated everyone the same – whether you knew them before or not. In fact, unless one was told, one would never know who you knew before.” Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami said his appointment exposed him to the dynamics of leadership for national development. Minister of Agriculture Audu Ogbe noted that God made the President to overcome his ill health and saved Vice President Yemi Osinbajo from a helicopter crash prior to the 2019 general elections. He added: “Where we failed we apologise and where we did well we thank you so much for the opportunity and your support. “I believe that as we enter the next level, I pray that you and your new cabinet will take Nigeria to the next level.” Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udo Udoma, said: “You appointed me when I did not know you well. Having worked with you for three and a half years, I know that that your reputation for integrity is well deserved.” Minister of Communications Adebayo Shittu said his appointment into the cabinet was the highest point in his 40 years in politics. He urged Nigerians to pay more attention to the utilisation of ICT towards boosting the economy. Minister of Defence Mansur Dan-Ali said one-third of the local governments in Borno State was under Boko Haram’s but today all have been taken by the military, noting that Mr. President’s integrity has helped immensely with the various financial interventions. Minister of Information Lai Mohammed said it was a privilege for anyone to serve his or her country. Minister of Labour Chris Ngige said the President never interfered in ministers’ jobs. According to him, the N30,000 minimum wage is a good gesture. source: https://www.titiloyeblog.com/2019/05/why-i-didnt-sack-cabinet-muhammadu.html Cc: Lalasticlala, Mynd44

@titiloyeblog.com A Lagos High Court in Igbosere yesterday sentenced a 25-year-old houseboy, Leudjou Koyemen Joel (aka William Smith) to death by hanging for killing his employer. He murdered Dayo Enioluwa Adeleke, the daughter of the late Brig.-Gen. Adekola Alfred Adeleke, on December 20, 2016. Justice Adedayo Akintoye convicted Joel, after a nearly two-year trial which followed his not guilty plea to a one-count charge of murder. The defendant, a refugee from Cameroon, had testified that Adeleke mistakenly stabbed herself after she fell while pursuing him with a kitchen knife. Justice Akintoye held: “All the evidence points to the defendant. I find merit in the prosecution’s case.” The police, on December 30, 2016, brought Joel before Chief Magistrate Oluyemisi Adelaja of an Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos. Following his remand, the case was transferred to the High Court where Joel was arraigned on January 19, 2017, on a one-count charge of murder, in accordance with Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice Mr. Kazeem Adeniji (SAN) told Justice Akintoye that the defendant committed the offense on December 20 at about 9:30pm. He said on that day, Joel asked for a two-week salary advance, but the late Adeleke turned him down. Later that day (at night), shortly after Adeleke returned from work, Joel repeated his demand. Again, she declined. He got angry and stabbed Adeleke in the neck and heart. He was apprehended at the gate of the deceased’s Park View Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos while attempting to flee. The court heard that the victim was found lying on the floor of her living room in a pool of blood. A kitchen knife was found stuck in the left side of her chest. She was taken to St. Nicholas Hospital on Lagos Island, where a doctor confirmed her dead. Adeleke was killed seven months after Joel was employed and three months after her engagement to her fiancé. Joel, who opened his defense on November 21, 2018, denied killing Adeleke. He spoke through a French translator. Led in evidence by his counsel, Mr. C. Acnonye, he confirmed that before the incident, he approached his boss twice to pay him part of his salary as his child was ill in Cameroon and he needed money for hospital bills. He said the first time he asked for part payment of his salary was on December 16, the second time was December 18, two days before Adeleke was killed. He stated that on the day of the incident, after cleaning her apartment, he knelt and pleaded with her to give him a loan, “but she became upset and started shouting and screaming at me. So I thought it was the situation in her office that was making her shout.” He told Justice Akintoye that Adeleke suddenly stood up and began to speak a language he did not understand. The defendant claimed that his employer pushed him and he fell. She started beating him on his head, so he closed his eyes. He said: “I was perceiving the smell of alcohol. When I opened my eyes, I saw her with a knife, then I tried to run away. But she was rushing towards me. “When I got to the entrance door, I noticed that she was no longer running after me but kept screaming. When I turned, I saw that she fell on the floor, with the knife in her chest.” source: https://www.titiloyeblog.com/2019/05/houseboy-to-die-by-hanging-for-killing.html Cc: Lalasticlala, Mynd44

The impending returnees, consisting of males, females, and toddlers are expected to land in the country at 9pm on Wednesday through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos. A source close to one of the security agencies at the Lagos Airport confided in our correspondent that a chartered aircraft, a Boeing 787-800, belonging to Buraq Airlines with the registration number 5ADMG would return the deportees to Nigeria. The Nigerians are being deported from the war-torn North African country for illegally entering and residing in Libya. The stranded Nigerians would be assisted back to the country through the humanitarian efforts of International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and special funding from European Union (EU) for reintegration process for the voluntary returnees after their futile attempts cross over to Europe through Libya. The source told our correspondent that all the security agencies at the Lagos Airport had been notified of the impending return of the Nigerians. Some of the security agencies included – the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Aviation Security (AVSEC), Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Police, Department of Security Service (DSS) and several others. @titiloyeblog.com A bus passenger has been charged with murder after he slit the throat of a bus driver in Tampa, Florida. Justin McGriff was on a Hillsborough Area Regional Transit bus on Saturday afternoon when he began arguing with the driver. Onochie dismissed the letter from Atiku's lawyer, Mike Ozekhome(SAN), describing it as a deliberate ploy to make her lose focus as the legal battle to unseat President Buhari gets intense. Atiku's lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), had in a letter to Onochie on Sunday, demanded five hundred million Naira, (N500m) and a written apology in six national and one international daily, as well as on all social media platforms wherein the said publication was made. @titiloyeblog.com National Parents, Teachers Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN) on Monday decried the spate of suicide among adolescents, urging parents and guardians to be more vigilant and monitor activities of their children. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a student recently committed suicide for failing to score high grades in the just concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination. Reacting to the spate of the suicide of adolescents, Chief Adeolu Ogunbanjo, 2nd Deputy President of NAPTAN, told the NAN in Lagos that parents must pay more attention to their children to avert suicide tendencies. He said the suicidal act was condemnable but the cause should be addressed. “Honestly, it is very sad, very disappointing and yes it is very condemnable. But condemning it alone will not bring the solution; we as parents must be alert to stop this menace. “Parents must be alert always to identify changes or any suicidal tendencies in their children. “Children, especially undergraduates, need constant monitoring in order to avert any danger. “Nowadays, many of us parents do not have time for our children anymore, we only worry about their upkeep but neglect the social life. “When we talk of time, it is divided into two; normal time and quality time — and what our children need is quality time,” he said. Speaking on the case of the undergraduate who committed suicide, the NAPTAN Deputy President said the incident might not be unconnected with the economic situation in the country. He said the economic situation may lead to suicide, adding that ‘’one cannot rule out depression’’. “It is not right for anybody to commit suicide for whatsoever reason but for a depressed person, they will not think that it is not right. “A depressed person only acts on impulse,’’ Ogunbanjo said. Speaking on students committing suicide because they failed JAMB, Ogunbanjo said failure was part of life and there was no success without failure. Parental care is also very important for our children and quality time with them to check their class work, homework, and assignment, particularly at the primary and secondary school level. He urged parents to spend quality time with their children and wards to put their children in check. “Failure is part of success, failure makes you learn, it makes you know what to do next to succeed. “But it is unfortunate that our youths will commit suicide because they failed JAMB examination. “Parents have a lot to do, they should stop harassing their children over their performance in examinations. “Parents should spend 15 to 30 minutes every day with their children to put them in check,“ he said. Commenting on the case of the undergraduate who drowned in a swimming pool in Abuja recently, he urged the parents of the victim to pursue the case to a logical conclusion in order to serve as a deterrent to other students who may be contemplating such evil act. The NAPTAN official described the act as an evil which should be condemned by all. Ogunbanjo urged the state and the federal government to ensure that Nigerian youths were viably engaged to discourage them from involvement in vices. source:https://www.titiloyeblog.com/2019/05/suicide-naptan-urges-parents-to-be.html Cc: Lalasticlala, Mynd44

@titiloyeblog.com A three-year-old girl, Aiman Zehra has been brutally raped by a 23- year old man, Tahir Ahmed Mir in Bandipora, district of north Kashmir. Some local people are claiming that the age of a rapist is above 23 years old But Islamic Education Trust J&K has issued a fake DOB certificate in an attempt to save the rapist from punishment. A disturbing video is circulating where she can be seen bleeding from her mouth. There is a lot of anger among the locals over the incident. Protest in Bandipora has been continuing since Friday. Meanwhile, people jammed the Srinagar-Baramulla National Highway. The police left the tear gas shells to control the protesters and to remove the crowd after seeing the case coming out of hand. On Monday, Police also summoned Principal of a private school for allegedly issuing a fake (DOB) certificate in favor of a youth accused in rape of the girl. “A case was registered, and the accused was produced before the court which sent him on Police remand,” said SSP Bandipora Rahul Malik. Bandipora Deputy Commissioner Shahbaz Mirza said, “The heinous crime of rape of a minor in Bandipora is under investigation. We assure that the perpetrator of the crime will be brought to justice. We appeal to the public to stay calm and not heed to any rumors.” The former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir demanded Shariah law in J&K, Mehbooba Mufti, said that such people should be “stoned to death." People across the valley of Kashmir took out protest rallies, against the rape and demanded strict punishment for the accused. In Srinagar, protestors held placards and banners that read “hang the culprit” and “We want Justice”. The protestors demanded that the culprit should be hanged in public so that ‘such an incident is not repeated in the future’. “A three-year-old girl has been ravaged by a beast. We want the government to hang the culprit so that such things don’t happen again,” a protester at Alamgari Bazar said. “We want the government to frame strict laws to punish such culprits,” she added. Terming the crime as a ‘black stain on society’ a protester said, “as a parent, I am more worried now after this horrific incident. Kashmir was the safest place for women, but now it’s not even safe for kids.” In Srinagar’s Press Enclave, numerous religious, student and activist groups staged protests against the incident throughout the day. The protestors carried banners and placards reading “End rape culture” and “girls are not toys”. “We are demanding justice against this barbaric act. With every passing day, our society is degrading. We demand that politicians and state leaders should come forward to act very harshly against this culprit so that such incidents are not repeated in the future,” a protestor said. source: https://www.titiloyeblog.com/2019/05/3-year-old-girl-brutally-raped-by-23.html Cc: Lalasticlala, Mynd44

@titiloyeblog.com A fifteen-year-old Ekene Franklin Ezeunala, who scored 347 to emerge the overall best in the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) targeted 370 out of a possible 400, it was learned yesterday. The SS3 pupil of Meiran Community Secondary School, Meiran, on the outskirts of Lagos, is, however, happy with his mark. He said yesterday that he was shocked to be announced the candidate with the highest score. Ekene told The Nation: “I tried to make a good score while preparing for the examination. The score I was targeting was 370. I still feel happy that I still achieved a good result.” The teenager, who will turn 15 May 27, said: “When I first heard I was the highest, I was a bit shocked. But I became glad and happy.” He attributed his feat to regular participation in competitions organized by of Lagos State government. “The competitions impacted positively on my preparation. Some of the subjects I did I had done them in preparing for the competitions and met the same thing in the exams,” he said. Ekene wants to study Chemical Engineering in the university – for the love of it and to impact society. He said he was already working on some bio-fuel research to reduce carbon emissions in Nigeria. “I want to study Chemical Engineering because I feel that chemistry and technology can impact the general public and society in various ways; and personally, I have a flair for chemistry,” he said. His mother, Mrs. Chinelo Ezeunala, a Chemistry teacher at Hightree College, a private school at Berger, Lagos, said she was happy about her son’s feat. The Chemistry graduate said her son had always shown brilliance in his education and as a result skipped some classes in primary school. “He started school early at two years plus because I was serving when I had him. He attended Philthel Primary School, Akoka. The school was owned by a professor teaching at the University of Lagos. But the woman is late now. “In primary school, he was very bright so he was promoted twice that was why he is 14 years in SS3,” she said. Mrs. Ezeunala learned of a scholarship offer by Gregory University, Uturu, Abia State, from this reporter. When asked if she would allow the boy to go, she said it would be discussed as a family. She said the family was not buoyant enough to afford private university fees if the offer was not a full scholarship. She said her husband was a retired staff of the defunct NITEL where he worked as a technician and had experienced hard luck in his efforts at running businesses. She said: “We are not really well off and we cannot afford private university fees. If it is a full scholarship, my opinion is ‘why not?’ The Uturu, Okigwe, Abia-based varsity, awarded a scholarship to Ekene and Emmanuel Chidiebube 16, who scored 346. source: https://www.titiloyeblog.com/2019/05/i-aimed-at-scoring-370-says-utme-best.html

@titiloyeblog.com President Buhari has expressed sadness at the level of poverty in Nigeria. Speaking when he hosted Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, Ministers, Service Chiefs, Heads of Security Agencies and Chief Executives of Federal Government Agencies and Institutions to a breaking of fast at the Presidential Villa, Abuja last night, President Buhari said what upsets him when he drives around the country is the level of poverty he sees. “When I drive around the country what upset me very much is the status of our poor people in this country. You see young people, the so-called Almajiris with tore dresses, with plastic bowl. They are looking basically for what to eat. The question of education (to them) is a luxury. I think Nigerian elite we are all failing because I think we should have a programme that will at least guarantee some basic education for our people no matter how poor they are. “So, I welcome the Vice-President for initiating the School feeding programme. If you check in your localities the enrolment into schools improved because a lot of children can get at least one good meal a day. This is the position of this country. But, culturally some of us are quiet merciless, we don’t care about what happen to others we just keep on moving forward.Source: https://www.titiloyeblog.com/2019/05/i-am-upset-with-level-of-poverty-in.html
