The Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Opeyemi Oke, retired on Monday after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 65 years.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Oke, born on June 10, 1954, was appointed as the 16th chief judge of Lagos State by former Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode in September 2017.

Oke, is an alumnus of the University of Ife, Ile-Ife now Obafemi Awolowo University, where she read law from 1973 to 1978.

She enrolled at the Nigerian Law School from 1978 to 1979 and the Coppin State College in Baltimore, Maryland, the U.S. from 1980-1982 for a Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice.

She began her professional career as a counsel at the law firm of Otesanya & Otesanya in 1979 before she joined the Lagos State Judiciary as a senior magistrate.

Oke rose through the ranks to become chief magistrate grade one from 1986 to 1996 and a deputy chief registrar between 1993 to 1994.

She was appointed Judge of High Court of Lagos State on July 19, 1996.

As the Chief Judge of Lagos, she took notable steps to curb touting in the court premises and corruption at the registry/cash office of the high court.

On Feb. 1, 2018, she inaugurated two new divisions of the Ikeja High Court, which are the Special Offences Court (three courtrooms) and the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court (two courtrooms).

Oke also introduced a number of reforms, including the Backlog Elimination Programme, the Small Claims Court and Restorative Justice System.

In a bid to improve justice delivery, the retired chief judge introduced the Sentencing Guidelines for Judges and Magistrates, the Civil Procedure Rules and Practice Direction and a Handbook for Court Registrars.

Justice Kazeem Alogba, the most senior judge in the Lagos State Judiciary is set to become Oke’s successor.

Mohammad Qoraishi, aged 27, of Hull, was jailed for a minimum of 16 years and 82 days on June 7, 2019, for murdering his teenage wife.

Maidstone Crown Court heard he stabbed 19-year-old Parwin Quriashi 38 times on Christmas Day in 2018 at her home on London Road, Maidstone.

Qoraishi and the victim were cousins and had an arranged marriage in August 2018. He moved into her home five days before the attack.

The prosecutor Alexandra Healy explained that there had been tensions leading up to and following the marriage.

It was heard that Qoraishi hit his wife over the head with a frying pan before launching a “frenzied” attack with a kitchen knife.

He stabbed her in the head, neck, chest, thighs, and abdomen. One wound to her neck was 6cm in depth.

Ms. Healy said: “Parwin was just 19-years-old and was the victim of a ferocious and sustained attack in her own kitchen.

“She had 38 stab wounds to her head, chest, and thighs.

“She had also been strangled and had been hit to the back of her head with a frying pan.”

Ms. Healy added that some of the knife wounds could have been inflicted after Parwin was already dead.

Following the attack, Qoraishi drove to the port in an attempt to flee, however, it was shut as it was Christmas Day.

Qoraishi was arrested at the wheel of his car wearing blood-stained clothes.

Parwin was discovered in the flat when neighbors became worried after hearing noises and a woman’s screams.

Qoraishi was questioned four times by police. He claimed Parwin’s father had threatened him.

During a hearing in May 2019, Qoraishi pleaded guilty when he was expected to enter a not guilty plea.

After private talks with his barrister, Qoraishi appeared at his hearing via prison video link and repeated: “Guilty, guilty, guilty, guilty.”

Judge David Griffith-Jones QC told Qoraishi: “This was a senseless murder of your wife.

“Whilst I’m prepared to accept the murder was not premeditated but occurred in a fit of rage in which you snapped, it is clear that you knew what you were doing and your intention was to kill her.

“The inescapable fact has you performed these acts of utter barbarity and in the cold light of day, you’ve had to face the enormity of what you’ve done.

“Given the extent and obvious ferocity of the attack and the injuries caused, there can be no doubt that your intention, whilst not premeditated… must have been to kill your wife.”

Defending Qoraishi was Bernard Tetlow QC who stated that the trigger for the attack was because of the arranged marriage.

He also explained that he was happy living in Hull and that Parwin’s father refused to let her move to Hull where her husband had a home and a job.

In a letter, Qoraishi said: “I am deeply ashamed about what I did and can only apologize from my heart and plead for forgiveness.”

Mohammad Qoraishi sat impassioned as he was jailed for life, to serve a minimum of 16 years and 82 days.

After the sentencing, senior investigating officer DCI Ivan Beasley said: “This was an unprovoked and savage attack on a defenseless young woman.

“Her tragic death at the hands of her husband has left a family mourning her loss.

“Qoraishi fled the scene and was tracked down by officers near Dover.

“It is only right that he will now spend considerable time in prison for this brutal crime.”

Private pictures of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle which were taken at their wedding at Windsor Castlein May last year, have been leaked online after their official photographer's computer was hacked.

The photos taken by aristocrat Alexi Lubomirski were leaked on sites including Instagram and Twitter, despite the release of three official wedding photographs at the time of the wedding.

Officials at Kensington Palace have reportedly launched an immediate probe to shut down the wedding pictures leak. They also believe hundreds of snaps taken by Lubomirski have also been taken in the hack.

A royal attendant said: “There was an online compromise. Pictures were hacked then leaked. There was an internal investigation but the police weren’t involved.

“The situation has now been contained.”

One of the photos leaked online shows Harry, 34, hugging Meghan, 37, with his eyes closed as she beams for the camera.

An adage state: “Relationships last longer when nobody knows nothing about it”.

A relationship is sometimes a reserved place where two people could find solace, trust, and support, driven by a commitment to honor, love, and respect.

Marriages require a few essential elements to maintain. At the top of the list is privacy.

Getting married is one thing, sustaining the marriage is another. In times past, people were very quick to allow others meddle into issues affecting their families, especially when it involves one of the spouses.

While this, in some cases, has its benefits, one of which includes seeing things from another party’s perspective. However, there are a lot of times when extra people were brought into family affairs, and things don’t go in the best direction.

Given that not everyone actually is happy that you are happy and they are looking for an opportunity to spoil the happiness.

Therefore, these are seven reasons you should keep your marriage private.

1. You Open Yourself To Negative Opinions:

Most times when we vent and go about expressing our anger and displeasure about our spouse, we often talk mostly about the partner’s faults and not ours. Also, most times we usually relay these complaints to people close to us, probably our friends or a family member we are close to.

It is likely for that family member of yours to take your side and God helps you the person you reported your spouse to dislikes your spouse. This will be the perfect opportunity to “badmouth” your spouse. Hence, you are usually more open to negative opinions when you go outside of your marriage to resolve issues.

2. You can filter pictures, not your relationship:

The evolution of social media has only increased our lust for recognition and makes it easier to get. However, becoming intoxicated by the attention of others is dangerous for your relationship. The issue arises when a couple is more in love with the glamour of having a social media relationship than an actual bond.

Keeping your relationship private keeps your motivations pure. You want to make sure that every day you decide to move forward in your relationship you are doing so because you couldn’t imagine a life without your partner, not because you are addicted to the false approval of social media viewers. That’s the relationship goals.

3. It gives the chance for your ex to be in your business:

The only worse than a third party being in your marriage is allowing your ex-boyfriend/girlfriend it could jeopardize the marriage if the marriage doesn’t have a strong bond. Hell-bent and determined to poke holes in your new love affair. Disclosing too much to your ex can leave the relationship vulnerable. “Be wise”.

4. Everyone won’t be happy for you:

There are some people so distraught with their own lives and will go out of their way to ruin other people’s happiness. The bitter truth is, not everyone wants to see you move forward, and certainly not happy. Sad, yes but true.

This is why you should be careful about expressing your complaints to third parties. The less people know about your personal life, the less they have to speak on.

5. It can displease your spouse:

Most of our spouse doesn’t like the idea of allowing the third party in the marriage so any time you share problems with others, it can displease the spouse and even become embarrassing.

It can damage their image in front of others and while you and your spouse have moved on about the issue, the third party may not and it can affect their relationship with your partner.

6. You tend to put too much pressure on your relationship:

This is particularly true when you are a “social media couple”. Every little thing you do, you are quick to post online or any trip you go before we know it, it’s on the gram. This has a way of putting a lot of pressure on your relationship.

Relationships are already hard work without feeling the need to impress other people. Give your relationship and your partner a stress-free environment to learn, make mistakes, and evolve without feeling weighed down by the need to uphold a false image created by social media.

7. Why should you not keep your marriage private?

Honestly, keeping your marriage a private affair saves you a whole lot of headache and even make the marriage peaceful and blissful so why should you not? Fine, you may not keep it a secret but really, you should keep your marriage, your home private!

African Independent Television (AIT) is back on air after the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) suspended its license over alleged failure to abide by broadcasting code.

The development comes after a federal high court in Abuja nullified the suspension of the license of DAAR Communications.

The Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Mr. Ishaq Modibbo Kawu had on the 6th of June announced the shutdown of AIT and Raypower FM.

He said the action was taken due to the failure of the broadcasting stations to abide by broadcasting code.

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has made his first appointments since assuming office. The new appointments are for the positions of Chief of Staff (CoS), Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Chief Press Secretary (CPS).

In a statement, Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Agboola D Olarewaju said the appointees are Aminu Adisa Logun (CoS); Mamman Saba Jibril (SSG); and Rafiu Ajakaye (CPS).

Logun is a pioneer industrialist in Ilorin and an alumnus of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) Kuru, Jos.

He hails from Ilorin, the state capital.



Logun was the chairman of the 80-member Kwara State Transition Committee appointed by AbdulRazaq.

An alumnus of Barewa College, Zaria, Logun attended King’s College, Lagos; had a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Loughborough University of Technology; and a Master’s of Science (M.Sc.) from Birmingham University, both in the United Kingdom.

He worked at various times in Lever Brothers, Port Sunlight, UK; Cerekem Arhus, Denmark; North Brewery Limited Kano; Ajaokuta Steel Company; and Nigeria Iron Ore Mining Company, Itakpe. He was also a General Manager at the New Nigeria Development Company.

Jibril, who hails from Dumagi in Kwara North, was head of the Geography Department at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna, where he still teaches

He has a Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Master’s of Science (M.Sc.) in Geography and Planning, and PhD in Geography. He specialises in remote sensing applications).

Jibril is a member of the Association of Nigeria Geographers and Cartographic Association of Nigeria.

He has published several articles in local and foreign journals.

Ajakaye holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and International Studies and is studying for a Master’s degree (M.A.) in History and Diplomacy, both from the Lagos State University (LASU).

He hails from Alabe in Ifelodun local government area of the state.

Until his appointment, Ajakaye was the Nigerian correspondent for Anadolu Agency, Turkish semi-official news medium and world’s fifth largest news agency.

Ajakaye has reported for various local and international news media. He has 15 years of experience in active journalism as a politics and development journalist.

He worked at the Daily Independent where he was at various times a Trainee Reporter, Reporter, Senior Reporter, Acting News Editor for the weekend titles and Foreign Editor for the newspaper. He had also worked on the Politics Desk of the paper and was the coordinator of its Development page for years.

A FCT High Court on Monday admitted Philomina Chieshe, charged with alleged “missing” N35 million belonging to the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to bail in the sum of N20 million.

Chieshe, a clerical officer with JAMB, was arraigned last Friday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alongside Samuel Sale Umoru, a state coordinator with JAMB. Ruling in the bail application, the judge, Peter Affen declared that bail was not about setting people free but to ensure that a defendant attends the trial.

He added that the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), 2015 holds that bail is granted in the most liberal terms. Affen also ordered the defendant to produce two sureties in like sum. He ordered that the sureties must have landed property in Abuja worth the value of the bail sum.

Affen further ordered the defendant’s counsel, Mark Feese, to put in writing the good characters of the sureties. He further held that the court registrar would then verify the addresses of the sureties, while the defendant must drop her international passport with the court. Affen also ordered that pending when the defendant meets the bail conditions, she would be remanded at Suleja Prison.

Earlier, Feese prayed the court to admit his client to bail, arguing that contrary to the submissions of the prosecution, she was granted administrative bail by EFCC and did not jump bail. Opposing the bail, EFCC counsel, Ekene Iheanacho, prayed the court to refuse the application, saying that she had jumped bail.

In the case of Samuel Umoru, Mr. Affen adjourned the further hearing of his bail application until June 11. In a related development, the court granted bail to another JAMB official, Yakubu Jekada, bail in the sum of N10million with one surety in like sum. Jekada was separately arraigned on a four-charge bordering on criminal breach of trust and dishonesty use of JAMB funds to the tune of N11.189million.

Jekada was among the six persons accused of committing criminal breach of trust and misappropriation. Affen granted him bail following the argument made on his behalf by his counsel, Gyang Zi. The judge ordered that the surety would have to be recommended to the court in writing by Mr. Zi. He further ordered that the surety would swear to an affidavit of means and possesses landed property equivalent to the bail sum in Abuja.

Jekada was ordered to drop his international passport with the court, while he was remanded in Kuje prison pending the fulfillment of the bail condition. Mr. Affen adjourned till September 16 for commencement of trial.

Anthony Joshua’s dad told him to smarten up after his embarrassing defeat to Andy Ruiz Jr.

Joshua is already plotting his return to the top after losing all four of his world title belts to the Mexican in one of boxing’s biggest upsets.

His father, Robert – who had to be held back by AJ from confronting Eddie Hearn in the wake of the defeat – has given him some advice on the future.

Joshua, 29, said: “My dad’s upset. Losing isn’t a good night, but it’s something we can learn from.

“My dad said, ‘Tighten up and get smart. When things are going good, nothing’s going wrong, then something bad happens, you realize’. Dad’s upset, natural reaction. Mum’s cool. She doesn’t come to the boxing. So she separates the two – son from boxing.

“Whole team, soldiers. Check, ‘you alright, you all good.’ And we roll with the punches. Good and bad.”

Joshua’s dad Robert appeared to be furious inside the ring in the aftermath of his son’s defeat.

While Hearn was being booed by the Madison Square Garden crowd and giving an interview to Sky Sports, Robert attempted to charge towards the promoter.

Joshua noticed his reaction and was forced to hold him back.

President Buhari has said that the sacrifices Nigerians made in voting him again into office during the 2019 general election, will never be in vain. The President gave the assurance in his special Sallah message to celebrate the end of the Ramadan fast.

In a statement released by his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the President said before the 2019 elections, prophets of doom had predicted that the elections will not be peaceful. However, despite their predictions, Nigerians came out enmass to vote for him. He pledged to ensure that the voters feel the positive impact of his administration.

“Before the 2019 general elections, prophets of doom did not give the country a chance to conduct peaceful elections. Despite these fears, the country overcame its political challenges. For abandoning their businesses in order to vote, the voters had demonstrated great patriotism in coming out to exercise their civic duty. Let me use this opportunity once again to reassure all Nigerians that your sacrifices in voting for me won’t be in vain. I will ensure the ordinary voters feel the positive impact of government.” the statement read

President Buhari urged Muslims to always put humanity before personal interests.

“The Ramadan period is meant to reinforce us spiritually. Therefore, we should use religion as an inspiration to do good at all times. The virtues of the Ramadan should be sustained beyond the celebration. Going back to bad ways after the Ramadan might defeat the essence of the message and lessons the fasting period was supposed to inculcate in the hearts and minds of the Muslim faithful,” he said.

President Buhari commiserates with victims of terrorism, kidnapping and banditry in the country and assured that, “Their days are numbered because this administration will pursue them relentlessly and bring them to justice.”

No fewer than 45 inmates of the Sokoto central prisons would join their loved ones to mark the Eid- el- Fitr celebrations as Senator representing Sokoto North Senatorial District and Chairman Northern Senators Forum, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko on Monday paid fines and compensations to free them.

The development was contained in a statement signed and made available to newsmen by the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Senator, Bashir Rabe Mani.

The statement explained that the annual gesture of Senator Wamakko was extended to the beneficiaries under the Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko Free Legal Services Foundation.

Coordinator of the Foundation, Barrister Abdulhamid Zubairu said that, out of the 45 freed inmates, five were women, seven were juveniles, while the rest were from the Sokoto Central Prison.

He said that, under the gesture which gulped millions of naira, the minimum fine settled was N 60,000, while the maximum was N 230,000.

Barrister Zubairu further explained that the gesture was aimed at enabling the beneficiaries to celebrate the Eid -el Fitr with relative their respective families.

In the same vein, the gesture is aimed at further decongesting prisons, as well as bolstering the nation’s judiciary system.

Zubairu however, admonished the beneficiaries to steer clear of any acts capable of taking them back to the prisons.

Also addressing the freed inmates, a former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association ( NBA), Sokoto State Chapter, Barrister Lema Wali, advised them to be of good conduct, be law-abiding and respectful to their various families.

Barrister Wali commended Senator Wamakko for sustaining the annual gesture, and he appealed to other wealthy individuals to emulate him.

A cross section of the lucky inmates lauded Senator Wamakko for the invaluable gesture and vowed never to engage in any acts capable of throwing them back to the prisons.

Transport fares were also doled out to all the freed inmates to various parts of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States, as well as other parts of Nigeria.

A 70-year-old man from Florida was arrested for allegedly impregnating a 13-year-old girl.

According to a Boca Raton police report, Renaud Jerome of Boca Raton was arrested on Friday after the girl showed up to a hospital complaining of pain symptoms associated with constipation. That's when doctors discovered she was 14 weeks pregnant.

The Miami Herald reports that the victim told police that Jerome “would touch her and have sex with her” and was the father of the child she is carrying.

Jerome, who only speaks Creole, admitted to police that he had consensual sex with the victim three times over the past couple of months.

“Jerome stated that within the last couple of months he has had consensual vaginal intercourse with [redacted] three times,” police said. “Jerome stated that [redacted] was interested in him more than he was interested in her and never forced her to do anything.”

Jerome is being held without bond at the Palm Beach County Jail and he’s required not to have any contact with the teen or anyone under 18.

Six members of a family were killed by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen inside their home in Dangwal village, Ganawuri district of Riyom local government of Plateau state along Jos-Kaduna-Abuja road on Monday night May 27th.

According to reports, the gunmen arrived at Dangwal Village at about 8pm on Monday and headed straight to Lo-Gwong Du family house where they murdered 6 members of the family.

Speaking to newsmen in Jos, one of the family members, Lyop Gideon, a 25 year- old mother of 1 and survivor of the attack said she escaped death by pretending to be dead.

Lyop’s baby also survived the attack as the gunmen decided to spare the baby's life who at the time was in her grandmother's arm. The grandmother was however killed. Lyop's husband, Gideon Gyang, his two parents, two siblings and a cousin were all killed in the attack.

"I laid flat on the ground as they opened fire, killing everyone. My baby yelled from my dead mother in-law's arms but she was unhurt," Mrs. Gideon said.

According to her, the family was having dinner together when the armed men attacked.

"My husband was in our room a few meters away from my father in-law's room where seven of us were eating. They shot him first, and my terrified mother-in-law started screaming. As my husband was groaning and my mother-in-law screaming, they came into the room where we were. One of them tried to say something in Berom language but wasn't so fluent. He spoke also in Fulfulde saying 'Hurut mu hilleh' after opening fire in the room but I don't think that language was standard too"

Veteran Nollywood actor, Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has advised against ‘butt enlargement’ and ‘boob lift; and all such artificial body configurations, saying they cannot guarantee true happiness in life.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the thespian and Lawyer stated this as he took to his IG page to share insightful thought on “Finding True Happiness.”

The admonition is coming at a time when the spate of butt and boob enhancement, especially among celebrities, increasing.

He wrote: “True happiness comes from knowing who you are (self-discovery) and loving yourself, anyone who can live without caring about the validation of others is the one who has found true happiness.

“A woman who is secure in her looks has no urge to go under the knife for enhancement, think Michelle Obama.

“Having been there, I can tell you for free that weight loss, weight gain, butt enlargement, boob lift, marriage, buying/building your own house, having kids, wearing expensive clothes and shoes cannot make you truly happy.

“Mostly, the things we do to show others we are beautiful, made, tough and/or connected are things that magnify our insecurities.”

The 58-year-old superstar and former Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Delta State is a foremost Nollywood actor.

He is acclaimed for his roles in ‘Out of Bounds’, ‘Hostages’, and ‘Diamond Ring’ , among other masterpieces.

In 2005 he won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, and received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 12th Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2016, besides other feats.
