As of December 2011 I can book a flight separately on Continental. I though this thread was originally about Continental when I posted my first answer? Conti lands at 130P and United at 530P, this makes a difference to me.

Any airline that flies into US airspace is a good one, at least equipment wise, which is more important to me than amenities when Iam sitting in a chair at 40k feet.

I have this guy I have known for several years, although I was very optimistic at first because of the things the media feads us about Nigeria, I would love to spend my life with him. I need you alls take on my decision. I am a "nice" American sweetheart who has traveled outside of this country, but never to Africa. Put me where you are. Where you live. Put me in your culture. I know this man and everything that he is about-at least based on what he has told me, but I need raw and uncut information on Nigerian men, Lagos area in particular. I would love responses from both men and women. Help me out.

How old are you?

OP, thanks for this thread. I did not know Conti flies to Nigeria but best of all they arrive at 1:40P which gives me ample time to get the heck out of Lagos quickly and get to Ibadan same day.

Continental is a USA based airline so like Delta, etc they are world class.

This is by far one of the most informative threads in the auto section.

I have a few pointed questions:

(1) Where can I find the rule on the age limit posted online?
(2) Can I buy an older than 15 year old car in Cotonou and drive it over and pay real duty?

As an Autoist, I am very vexed with the Nigerian governments stance on this age limit thing. It's ruining it for hobbyist like me who likes classic vehicles.

Thanks to all participants for a very civil thread.

This is a dangerous precedence.
Nairaland / General / Re: What I Have Learned From Nairaland(nigerian Men) by EuroMeko(m): 3:43pm On Aug 13, 2011
I take issue with a few points you raised and I will address them one by one.

Let's start with this, at a mere 19 years age the last thing on your mind should be marriage, IMHO. Do you have a career established or a business? How are you going to hold your own in the families financial growth? These are serious and not off the cuff questions.

(1) A wild generalization though you did not use the work ALL. As a Nigerian Male, not claiming to speak for ALL Nigerian males, but I prefer someone in my age group that looks much longer for her age. So a 35 year old Woman that has taken care of her body and looks like a 19 year old is the ideal mate for me. I think you might be confusing youthfulness with calendar age. This is not unique to Nigerian Men by the way.

(2) A Man is only as faithful as his options. Not all 18 year olds a naive, I've met some highly intellectual 18 year olds and some dumb as a rock 40 year olds.

(3) Yes we do. It's not illegal. I take offense at the last sentence though. So you are basically changing your position as long as you get some monetary benefit/value out of it? You're trading your ideals for money. So a Man is a manwhore if he dates someone 10 years younger but you're Miss Princess if you date a 29 year old as long as he's paying your school fees. Okay I get it.

(4) Not sure about that. But I will tell you this, you need to expand your dating circle.

(5) Well maybe they're trying to get their voices heard above the okadas and maruwas lol

Listen, My 1st Ex Wife is an American, my 2nd Ex Wife is a Briton, there is nothing holding you down to only marry your race. Go forth, Girl, date internationally, enjoy your youth.

Stop thinking about marriage until you're in your early 30's.

Djcn:

Simir you made some interesting points there but however power is not the major when it comes to our having a Data center. The major issue is the bandwidth, reliability (uptime), and of course security. Thousands of Transmission Towers run 24/7 for a year in this country and my personal system has not gone off for approximately two years (have no patience for booting time).
There is significant improvement in the power situation in the country and even oversees some data centres don't depend on the local stations. They sometimes generate their own power source.

I don;t see how one can guarantee up-time without supplying their own power, but still have to talk to Maintenance Engineers on the ground.

Additionally I don't see Lagos proper being a secured area due to the proximity to water and all the flooding nonsense that abounds.

But yah'all are contributing very positively and I am enjoying this discussion.

For the record, I Idolize Arnold, he can do no wrong and he is a shining light for all foreigners in the USA based on all his accomplishments in anything he has touched.

I wish he nothing but the best in all his future endeavors and I wish for him to get this sordid issue behind him (kids changing their last name, etc) and move forward.

I for one cannot wait till the next Terminator movie comes out.

"might have to" those three omitted words add better clarity and editorial purpose.

In any case, it might well be worth it so that the Governator can be finally free from that frigid Woman.

We're not bad. Na condition as caused by all our thieving leaders cause am.

Some thoughts:

(1) There is a riot going on, young Guys, stay your butt at home. When we had our own Rodney King riot in LA, I was at home and wasn't going around sight seeing.
(2) That white Guy who robbed his backpack is a scumbag, there's a special place in hell reserved for him.
Computers / Re: Any Datacenter In Nigeria (Lagos)? by EuroMeko(m): 6:12pm On Aug 11, 2011
Wow shocked those are some insanely huge monthly prices. I see that we have a long way to go to increase subscribers so that costs can decrease. Though I realize those were prices of almost 3 years ago.

Thanks for your continuing contribution, I am learning in leaps and bounds. For me, even as a regular home user I need constant internet connection but the cost is outlandish.

I wonder what biz models that the TELCOs are doing to reduce this cost.

BTW, this is still on topic since, IMHO, we cannot rely only on big business to utilize data centers. I foresee a need in the future for middle markets such as Doctors, Lawyers, Architectural offices.

I think I need to carve out some time to come and spend 3 continuous months on the ground in Nigeria. It seems that their is much to be garnered on the ground level.
Computers / Re: Any Datacenter In Nigeria (Lagos)? by EuroMeko(m): 4:42pm On Aug 11, 2011
How much will an unlimited internet access (depending on what type of link is available in Ibadan for example) cost monthly?

The other question I have is what are the expected clients for a data center in Nigeria?

It seems that most large companies will have their own (again based on US). Is the market for data storage that prominent for the middle sector and perhaps SOHO?
Computers / Re: Any Datacenter In Nigeria (Lagos)? by EuroMeko(m): 3:18pm On Aug 11, 2011
You certainly Nigeducated me on quite a few things on this thread.

I now have a better idea on why you recommend setting up shop near a power facility.

These are things I would never have given a thought to here in the US.

davidylan:

lets be honest, club get levels. There are bars almost exclusively for the upper class . . . you rarely see violence there. Well run, security is tight and entrance can sometimes be by who you sabi. the other clubs you are on your own.

Of course.

We don't know what really happened since the witnesses did not hang around. If this the US I would wager, that it was a continuation to something that happened inside the club. The young Lady that tried to help the victim for sure knows the perps.

RIP.

But sha wetin person pickin dey do outside house at 4:15 Am? undecided

I can only hope eternity is not an unpleasant experience for the chap. shocked

I know it's hard to understand but in developed countries and in certain parts nightlife is going on around 4AM.

When I was much younger, regular clubs close at 2AM or so and then we go to the after club parties from there till about 6AM.

Like I said I was much younger then and arguably a wee bit more el stupidio.

To those quick to lambast the UK/US in a knee jerk reaction, and profess that Nigeria is safe, well how about this -- http://pmnewsnigeria.com/2011/08/08/robber-kills-expatriate-in-lagos-2/

The truth is that crime occurs anywhere and everywhere.
