@ Bilms, trust me, the FG knows what they need to do. They won't do it.

Call out the National Guard (oh snap we don't have one) and have them shoot any identified member on sight and then have the FBI (oh snap we don't have one) set up an Anti Boko Haram unit and start high level criminal investigation.

As the US demonstrates, sometimes you need violence to subdue violence.

When I went home in 2005, there was the mother of all traffic jams on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway just past Shagamu going towards Lagos.

Some of the brave passengers started footing it towards Lagos.

Travel / Re: Why Will Anyone In His/her Right Senses Want To Vacate Nigeria To Live In The Uk by EuroMeko(m): 6:39pm On Jul 05, 2011
To OP:

I understand how you feel and the answer to your question is somewhat complex.

I left Nigeria in 1986 and returned for a visit in 2005 for the fist time.

One of my previous coworkers, who was hired the same day as me had become the Manager at our bank in Ibadan. So this is a prime example that stuff works out in Nigeria too and we don't have to leave Nigeria to success. One of my childhood friends on the other hand became a Chauffeur. So there is the complexity I alluded to.

As far as family, I am lucky to live within 5 miles of 4 out of my 6 siblings in the US. For sure I did not miss any social family issue. My only surviving Parent also visits every two years until old age made the 18 - 24 hour flight a bit much.

So every situation is different but I certainly respect your viewpoint as I've seen it from other Nigerians here.

Nigeria is a beautiful place to live for sure but sometimes we view it with tainted rose glasses perched atop our comfortable thrones overseas. Lie someone stated on this thread "Without Money. You're Dead In Nigeria".

US is too violent.

Have you been to Detroit or east Los angeles. come and see poverty and violence.

New york some areas in The Bronx n Brooklyn. . . see drug dealers and LovePeddlers . Guys carrying Mac 5 in broad day light

Cape Town is lovely but Jo burg is hell. infact you can get killed for begin a Nigerian. Be careful what you wish for o grin

I fail to see your point. Even the celebrated cities around the world such as Beverly Hills, Newport Beach, Rome, London, etc all have some poverty and violence.

As far as weapons, only Arizona state allows unconcealed weapon and I fully suport that.

You have a nationalistic pride of which is good but not at the expense of sullying hard working families that live in East LA or Bronx/Brooklyn.

PS: Not all areas of East LA are bad.

Hello Fidelo:

During my childhood in the 70's when we lived in Ile Oluji, we lived across from a sawmill. These Guys were processing trees into planks. I hope that industry is still being sustained.

As far as insect attacks, we have made great strides in modern science and termite damage is almost a thing of the past. Sure it will have an ongoing bi annual in frame treatment method such as this http://www.pestdefense.com/NEWBUYERS

The flexibility that wood provides is unparalleled and many mansions, some over $20 million dollars here are built the same ways (the crew that framed my modest home shown above were framing a $10 million and $15 million house at the same time). In downtown Fort Worth, Texas, some of the homes from the Cowboy era have been there since the 1800s and they were built out of wood.

Thanks once again for your time Gentlemen.

Hi Brabus, thanks for your response.

I absolutely respect your opinion as you're on the ground getting it done.

Could you take a look at my thread and give your opinion based on what you know about the industry and the available raw materials at home

I haven't seen any plumbing or electrical conduits in the foundation.

I am just curious as I am using your postings, pictures to plan my own project though I will be primarily doing all the work with a few hired hands.

This is a good thing that you are doing.

Lawyer, based on what I've read so far, it seems that the prudent thing for one to do (especially if living abroad like I do) is to buy a preowned home. Or does that have it's own unique set of challenges?

Which houses?
Properties / Question For Architects And Builders by EuroMeko(m): 1:50am On Jul 01, 2011
As I peruse this forum I see a common denominator, houses being built out of concrete bricks.

It seems to me to be a rather expensive material to use especially considering we are practically in the rain forest.

I am looking for answers on why we don't use woods for the structure such as shown below.

Additionally, I see mostly 2 story structures. Why not many single story buildings?

Before I can even get excited, and trust me I want to get excited about this, I will need to see a patent (or at least a submittion for as such), development progress (in detail), facility where the work commenced, etc

Personally, if you indeed have this elaborate invention and expect folks to take you seriously on a business venture, then I suggest to stop composing like a secondary school candidate and to write with full sentences with no abbreviation.

Car Talk / Re: Best Oil Grade To Use For Nigerian Car? by EuroMeko(m): 7:41pm On Jun 29, 2011
There are other factors that have much greater importance on increasing your MPG than your engine oil., for example tire pressure. But to answer your question I have not seen any report that synthetic oil gives you better MPG though I know positively that it makes your engine run more efficiently. However any MPG gain would be minuscule.
