https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZZ8SrjdwDM It looks like all is not well between politician Shina Peller and road transport chairman, Musilius Akinsanya aka MC Oluomo. Over the weekend, both men attended an event where MC Oluomo publicly snubbed Peller. The politician had arrived the party and was going about to greet his friends when he met with MC Oluomo. His attempt to shake MC Oluomo was totally rebuffed as the NURTW chairman refused to shake him and could be seen expressing his displeasure with Mr. Peller to other attendees of the event. https://www.lindaikejisblog.com/2023/5/mc-oluomo-snubs-politician-shina-peller-at-a-party-video-2.html

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) says it will investigate allegations of a cancer-causing chemical found in Indomie noodles. Health officials in Malaysia and Taiwan said they had detected ethylene oxide, a compound, in Indomie’s special chicken flavour noodles. Ethylene oxide is a colourless, odourless gas that is used to sterilise medical equipment and plastics. It is said to be a cancer-causing chemical. Malaysia and Taiwan have since recalled the Indomie special chicken flavour from shelves. In reaction, Indofood, makers of Indomie noodles, said the product was safe for consumption. Taufik Wiraatmadja, a member of the board of directors at Indofoods, said the noodles received standard certifications and were produced in compliance with international food safety regulations. ‘NAFDAC HAS BEGUN INVESTIGATION’ Mojisola Adeyeye, NAFDAC director-general, said the agency would begin random sample tests of the noodles and other brands from May 2. Speaking with TheCable on Monday, Adeyeye said NAFDAC started investigating once it got wind of the recall of the products by Taiwan and Malaysia authorities. “Tomorrow, May 2, 2023, NAFDAC’s food safety andnapplied nutrition directorate will randomly sample Indomie noodles (including the seasoning) from the production facilities while post-marketing surveillance directorate (will) samples from the markets,” she said. “The compound of interest is ethylene oxide, so the director, food lab services directorate, has been engaged. He is working on the methodology for the analysis.” The DG said the product is on the prohibition list of the federal government, adding that it is not registered by the agency and had been banned from importation to Nigeria years ago. She said NAFDAC is working to ensure that the product is not being smuggled and that the feedback from the investigations would be communicated to the public. “It should be noted that Indomie noodles have been banned from being imported into the country for many years. It is one of the foods on the government prohibition list. It is not allowed in Nigeria, and therefore not registered by NAFDAC,” the NAFDAC DG told TheCable. “What we are doing is an extra caution to ensure that the product is not smuggled in and if so, our post-marketing surveillance would detect it. We also want to be sure that the spices used for the Indomie and other noodles in Nigeria are tested. “That is what NAFDAC food safety and applied nutrition (FSAN) and post-marketing surveillance (PMS) are doing this week at the production facilities and in the market respectively. The public will be duly updated with the outcomes of the investigation.” The World Instant Noodles Association (WINA) says Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, is currently among the largest consumers of instant noodles with 1.92 million servings as of May 2020. The country also ranked 11th in the global demand for noodles, with Indomie instant noodles being the most consumed brand in Nigeria. https://www.thecable.ng/cancer-chemical-nafdac-to-test-indomie-noodles-says-importation-of-product-banned/amp |

Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, ATBU, Bauchi, has said it would henceforth rusticate any student who violates the university code of conduct and dress code as contained in the revised student’s handbook. The revised rules are contained in an internal memo signed by the dean of Students Affairs of the university, Professor U.S. Abdullahi, dated April 27, 2023, and addressed to the president of the Students Union Government and all students of the university. The dean warned the students and members of the university community against violating the rules, approved during the 161st regular Senate Meeting of the institution held on April 13, 2023. According to the memo wit REF:ATBU/SAD/SUG/VOL 11/0113 posted on the Facebook page of the university, any student found guilty risks one or two semesters of rustication, depending on the offence. “I write to inform you that the University Senate has approved the revised Student Handbook at its 161st Regular Senate Meeting held on Thursday, April 13, 2023," the memo reads. “The following are extract of the 30 most salient misconducts from the revised Handbook. All students and members of the University community are requested to avoid such types of misconducts," The memo said unwelcome touching, kissing, hugging, massaging, or sitting on the laps of opposite sex attracts two semesters rustication. The memo further said multi-coloured hair for females, dreadlocks, sagging, engaging in reckless driving, tattoos, and extra piercing in the nose, eye and mouth attract one semester suspension. Other offences include wearing tattered jeans, backless clothes, off shoulder clothes, hair braiding for male students, and bum shorts, among other offences also attract one semester suspension. The secretary general of the student union government, SUG, ATBU chapter AbdulRauf Al-Amin, who confirmed the authenticity of the memo, said the new rules are not alien to the students. “We received the memo from the university last week, which I personally shared with the students across various platforms; most of the things contained are not new, it was only reviewed,” he said. https://www.lindaikejisblog.com/2023/4/abubakar-tafawa-balewa-university-to-rusticate-students-over-kissing-touching-and-other-violations-of-the-universitys-code-of-conduct.html

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has advised the opposition to stop their endless griping over the 2023 presidential election which they lost woefully, saying they know very well that they deserve to lose the election because of their overconfidence and complacency. In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, April 30, the Minister said President Buhari's analysis on the reasons for the opposition's loss in the 2023 elections was incontrovertible. He said the President deserves nothing but accolades for delivering undoubtedly the best election in Nigeria's history, adding that the tempestuous but predictable reaction to the President's comments by the opposition has shown them for what they are: shameless sore losers.Recall that President Buhari a few days ago said the opposition parties lost the election due to overconfidence. ''President Muhammadu Buhari lived up to his billing by delivering a free, fair and credible election, and his legacy is assured. The President would rather lose his state and many of his party's strongholds than tamper with the fidelity of the election, and that is why he provided a level playingfield for all parties,'' Mohammed said. The Minister said the opposition's overconfidence going into the election stemmed in part from the blitzkrieg of social media propaganda as well as faulty and procured opinion polls, which were apparently meant to hoodwink their foreign backers and a section of the international media into uncritically reporting that they were coasting home to victory, when they were indeed heading into the ravine of defeat. The Minister said the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, won the presidential election fair and square, clinching the majority of the votes cast and surpassing the constitutionally- stipulated 25% of votes cast in each of at least two-thirds of all the states in the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory. ''Going by the results, none of the opposition parties met any of the conditions stipulated for winning the presidential election. They didn't even come close, in spite of their pre-election grandstanding. They (opposition) keep leaning on some international observers to justify their fraudulent claim that the election was rigged. They conveniently forgot what Ambassador Johnnie Carson, the revered US diplomat who co-led the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and International Republican Institute (IRI) International Election Observation Mission to Nigeria said: that the APC candidate undoubtedly won the polls. They also forgot that the African Union Election Observation Mission to Nigeria said the atmosphere was generally calm and peaceful in 95% of the polling units visited,'' he said, adding that it is on the strength of these reports that many nations, including the US and the UK, wasted no time in congratulating the victorious APC Presidential Candidate.''he said Mohammed slammed the opposition for continuously seeking to mislead the world by clutching at the weak straw that results were not immediately uploaded onto the IReV Portal, as if the portal has any role to play in the collation of results. ''The opposition's insinuation that the failure to immediately upload the result of the presidential election onto IReV affected the credibility of the election is a fraud. It is an act of blackmail and deceit by desperate individuals. The opposition Labour Party, in particular, will go down in the history books as the first-ever distant third-place finisher in a presidential election anywhere to have bold-facedly claimed victory,'' he said https://www.lindaikejisblog.com/2023/4/stop-with-your-persistent-and-irritating-complain-of-the-elections-fg-tells-opposition-parties-2.html |

Rabiu Kwankwaso, presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), says the incoming government in Kano will revisit the dethronement of Muhammadu Sanusi. Abdullahi Ganduje, outgoing governor of the state, dethroned Sanusi, 14th emir of Kano, in 2020, over allegations of insubordination. Aminu Bayero, son of the late Ado Bayero and emir of Bichi, was installed as Sanusi’s replacement. In a viral video posted on social media on Saturday, Kwankwaso said he is confident that Abba Yusuf, governor-elect of the state, would have the wisdom to resolve “challenges” in the state. “We campaigned and we are well-known in Nigeria, especially in Kano. What we showed the people is by God’s grace all the good projects we started when we were in government. This governor (Abba Kabir Yusuf) and his team will pick up from where we left off,” Kwankwaso said. He said the opportunity to revisit Sanusi’s dethronement has presented itself and that he would advise the incoming government on what to do as an elder. “We as elders in the movement will continue to advice them to do things that are proper,” Kwankwaso said. “We tried not to talk about whether the Emir would be removed or not, but now you see, the opportunity is there. “Those who God made leaders will now decide on the next step and decision to take. They will review it and determine what is the right thing to be done. “Apart from the issue of changing the emir, the emirates have now been divided into five. All of that will be reviewed too. When a leader comes into power whether in a country, state or local government area, he inherits things that are good and things that are difficult and challenging. “We are confident God will give the governor (Abba Kabir Yusuf) the wisdom to come and resolve the challenges planted in Kano state so that everyone will leave peacefully in Kano state.” https://www.thecable.ng/kano-governor-elect-will-review-sanusis-dethronement-says-kwankwaso/amp |

The Labour Party (LP) says the All Progressives Congress (APC) did not win the presidential election but “stole” the the people’s mandate. The LP was reacting to a comment by President Muhammadu Buhari that opposition parties lost the poll due to overconfidence and bad tactics. Obiora Ifoh, LP’s acting national publicity secretary, in a statement on Friday, said “the president was “completely wrong to say opposition parties lost because of over confidence”. He said the opposition parties lost the poll because “it was manipulated and rigged beyond comprehension”. “The Labour Party is very worried and disturbed with the statement from the office of the President wherein he said that the opposition parties lost the 2023 presidential election because of their overconfidence, complacency and bad tactical moves, and which he claimed created more problems for them,” the statement reads. “We want to point it out clearly to President Muhammadu Buhari that his position on the outcome of the said election was false, untrue, and it is not a true reflection of what played out during the election. “There are several reasons why opposition political parties lost the 2023 election; the first is that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) snubbed the electoral act wherein it failed to upload the result from the polling unit in real time as promised and in disregard to the laws guiding the election. The INEC by so doing, created room for that election to be rigged. “Again, the current APC president elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu didn’t win the election, because the said election, particularly, the presidential election was manipulated and rigged beyond comprehension. “So political parties didn’t lose election because of over confidence or complacency as proffered by Mr. President, APC, in collaboration with the various government agencies, simply rigged the election and rigged themselves into power. “All of these put together. Do they amount to over confidence and complacency on the part of the opposition party? It shows that the President who promised Nigerians that he was going to give Nigerians a free, fair, and credible election simply failed in his duty in giving Nigerians the election they deserved. “So, Mr. President is completely wrong. I believe that he was ill advised. It was erroneous for him to say that opposition parties lost election because of over confidence. “In fact, Labour Party won the election but it was brazenly stolen by APC. Mr. President is aware of the fact that APC did not win the election and that it was stolen.” https://www.thecable.ng/apc-didnt-win-presidential-poll-it-was-stolen-from-us-lp-replies-buhari/amp |
