Bola Tinubu, the president-elect, has called on the police to investigate what transpired during the Adamawa supplementary governorship election. On Tuesday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Ahmadu Fintiri as the winner of the election after collating the supplementary election results. The final results showed that Aisha ‘Binani’ Dahiru, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), scored 398,788 votes while Fintiri polled 430,861 votes. Before the announcement, however, controversy ensued after Hudu Yunusa-Ari, the resident electoral commissioner (REC) in the state, declared Binani the winner of the election. In a statement on Wednesday, Tinubu called for a thorough investigation of “all that transpired” in the election. “The supplementary polls have now brought the 2023 elections to a final, fitting conclusion. I observed, with satisfaction, the largely peaceful atmosphere that pervaded the supplementary election on Saturday. It was a further testimony that our citizens have accepted democratic norms and have unalloyed faith in the electoral process,” the statement reads. “However, I note the matter of Adamawa Supplementary Governorship Election and I urge police authorities to fully investigate all that transpired in the election given the attendant controversy. In every democratic contest, there has to be one winner. I call on those aggrieved to pursue legitimate means of addressing their grievances.” https://www.thecable.ng/just-in-tinubu-asks-police-to-probe-all-that-transpired-in-adamawa-guber-poll/amp |

Fashola: Buhari is like a coach who sits for 90 minutes | Tinubu joins the players on the field. Babatunde Fashola, minister of works and housing, says the leadership styles of President Muhammadu Buhari and President-elect Bola Tinubu vary. Using football managers as an example, Fashola said Buhari is like a coach who prepares his team for the game and sits in the dugout for 90 minutes — while Tinubu is the type of gaffer who gets involved with the team’s activities on the field. The minister worked under Tinubu as the chief of staff in Lagos state and succeeded the president-elect as Lagos governor. Fashola is presently a two-term minister in the administration of Buhari. Speaking on Sunday in an interview with Channels Television, the minister asked those planning to work in Tinubu’s government to be prepared, saying the former Lagos governor is “very nocturnal”. “I was his (Tinubu) chief of staff for four and a half years. I took over from Lai Mohammed,” he said. “In terms of controlling Asiwaju’s schedule, that was a tough task because he has day and night schedules. “For those who are going to work with him, he is very nocturnal. I hope he changes. He will wake you up at night. He does his best work in the dead of the night. Unless you push back and claim your space at night, he will encroach it. “He is very detailed. He micromanages — more than President Muhammadu Buhari. “I was speaking with somebody and I said imagine there are two football coaches; President Muhammadu Buhari is the type of football coach that will prepare his team, sit in the dugout and watch them play for 90 minutes. “He (Buhari) trusts them to do the work and believes there is nothing he can do. “Asiwaju will be that kind of coach playing the game with them (players) on the field.” The minister added that Buhari did not interfere in his ministry over the last eight years. https://www.thecable.ng/fashola-buhari-is-like-a-coach-who-sits-for-90-minutes-tinubu-joins-the-players-on-the-field/amp |

She said about 198 members have extended their support for her ambition, adding that politics is not about noise making. “I have over 200 or about 198 members whom I have spoken to and I have got their ultimate buy-in in my kitty. Politics is not about making noise,” she said. “Yes, I think that a woman can be a speaker, invariably, that I can be the next speaker of the 10th house of representatives because I have prepared myself. I have followed through with the right knowledge, enablement, and requirement.” She added that she has the required education and has actively been a member of relevant committees in the house. ” I have the requisite education or qualifications to make the house of representatives in the first place and don’t take it for a ride that I am a woman, I survived the labour tsunami in the east, I fought men and I defeated them and I will do it again here.” While commenting on the presidential election, the lawmaker said she was able to deliver her constituency for the party despite the criticism she received from the people. “The south-east has remained solidly with the APC. I have been a solid member of the APC and we have been working. Politics is local, we have been driving the affairs of the party. I put my billboards in the south-east running my campaign alongside Bola Ahmed Tinubu. “I know the backlash that I got from the people yet I was able to garner over 44,000 votes for myself and for the presidential election, so, we delivered. “APC lost in Lagos. In my federal constituency 1, I delivered and I have evidence. My people love me andbthey voted for me because they didn’t want to take the chance of voting for another party. “South-east is not the only region that didn’t come up as expected, the north as well, where we had a lot of inroads from the NNPP. So, I think it is all about building the nation collectively. “I am of the new generation, the new order, we don’t want to bring tribal or religious sentiments that tend to divide us. I am a woman, I come in peace.” https://www.thecable.ng/im-qualified-to-be-speaker-miriam-onuoha-says-198-members-backing-her/amp |

A magistrate court in Kano State has ordered the owner of a noisy cockerel to slaughter it or face a penalty. They claimed the bird’s relentless loud crows disturbs their sleep and the peace of neighbourhood. The court located at Gidan Murtala ordered Isyaku Shu’aibu, the owner, to slaughter his bird. One of the plaintiffs, Yusuf Muhammed, of Ja’en quarters of Kano’s metropolis told the court that the cockerel’s relentless crowing was an infringement of his right to arestful sleep. While admitting his cockerel’s knack for loud crows, Mr Shu’aibu prayed the court to stay the judgement until Fridayy, April 7, 2023. He told the court that he had bought the bird to celebrate Good Friday and asked to be given until the Christian holy day before killing it for a family feast. The Twitter user had written IT DEFINITELY ISNT RAPE. Begging someone for sex to the point they agree might be exhausting and unhealthy but it isn't rape. Rape has a clearly defined meaning. So long as consent was affirmatively given, it isn't rape.'' Begging for sex is rape - Nigerian lady argues Responding, @LAJOKESAB said begging for sex is definitely rape. ‘’It is definitely Rape. The US department of justice has announced the final resolution of two civil cases seeking the forfeiture of the luxury assets that were laundered in and through the country in a case involving Diezani Alison-Madueke, former minister of petroleum resources, and her associates. Diezani’s associates who were named in the forfeiture case are Kola Aluko, a Nigerian businessman, and Jide Omokore, chairman of Atlantic Energy Drilling Concepts Nigeria Limited. The department said the forfeited assets were the “proceeds of foreign corruption offenses”. In a statement released on its website on Monday , the US department of justice disclosed that “roughly $53.1 million in cash, plus a promissory note with a principal value of $16 million” have been recovered as part of “proceeds of illicitly awarded contracts” involving the trio — Diezeani, Aluko, and Omokore. “According to court documents, from 2011 to 2015, Nigerian businessmen Kolawole Akanni Aluko and Olajide Omokore conspired with others to pay bribes to Nigeria’s former minister for petroleum resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, who oversaw Nigeria’s state-owned oil company,” the statement reads. “In return, Alison-Madueke used her influence to steer lucrative oil contracts to companies owned by Aluko and Omokore. The proceeds of those illicitly awarded contracts totaling more than $100 million were then laundered in and through the United States and used to purchase various assets through shell companies, including luxury real estate in California and New York as well as the Galactica Star, a 65-meter superyacht. “The real estate was also used as collateral for loans to Aluko and shell companies he controlled. As part of the forfeiture process, those lien holders were paid.” BACKGROUND Diezani was the minister of petroleum resources from 2010 to 2015 during the administration of former president Goodluck Jonathan. Shortly before Jonathan handed over to President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015, she left the country. The former minister is alleged to have stolen $2.5 billion from the Nigerian government while she was a minister. She has, however, denied the allegations , while the EFCC has since commenced a process to extradite her. The federal government had gained forfeiture of Diezani’s properties located in Banana Island Foreshore Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos, including 18 flats and six penthouses. Over the past few years, the trio of Diezani, Aluko, and Omokore have been facing trial over alleged fraud in the procurement of oil contracts and money laundering in Nigeria and US. In 2017, the US government filed a suit to recover $144 million in assets that were purportedly acquired with proceeds from a shady scheme in Nigeria’s oil industry. Aluko and Omokore were said to have paid bribes between 2011 and 2015 to Diezani in exchange for contracts. Diezani reportedly used her position to secure contracts for Aluko and Omokri’s shell companies through a subsidiary of the defunct Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) — now the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited. https://www.thecable.ng/us-recovers-53m-proceeds-of-illicitly-awarded-contracts-involving-diezani-aluko-omokore/amp |

Bola Tinubu, the president-elect, says with the general election out of the way, Nigerians must champion the healing process to unite the country. In a statement on Tuesday, Tinubu urged all Nigerians to rise above the differences that emanated from the poll and embrace nation-building. He congratulated all the elected governors and states lawmakers while urging them to provide the “better life that we promised during the campaigns”. “With the conclusion of the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections, I congratulate all the elected governors and assembly members for earning the mandate of the people. The March 18 governorship election held across 28 states and the state legislative poll across the 36 states of the federation have brought the 2023 election circle to a fitting close,” the president-elect said. “Consolidating democratic governance at the sub-national level will bring more development and improved quality of life to the masses. The more we entrench and consolidate the gains of our democratic venture across the length and breadth of our country, the more our people benefit in terms of dividends of democracy and good governance. “Indeed, the elections are over. The people have voted to elect their governors and state legislators that will serve them for the next four years. The time for leadership and governance is now upon us. “As the elected, the only way to justify the trust and confidence of the people and the mandate entrusted in us is to commit ourselves to the service of the people. We must all work diligently and sincerely to make life better for the masses. As elected officers, we have no other assignment than to be burden-bearers for the masses and ensure they have the better life that we promised during the campaigns. “We must take urgent steps to unite the people; those who voted for us and those who did not. We must champion the healing process by embracing the opponents and their supporters. As I have stated previously, the time for politicking is gone. This is time for nation-building, a task beyond one individual or a section of society. We need every hand from wherever it may come to be on deck. “I am ready to work with you all as your President. I will be a worthy partner you can trust and rely on as we all bond together, in unity of purpose and renewed hope for, the betterment of our blessed country and beloved people.” ‘I’M PAINED BY ETHNIC SLURS’ Before and during the elections, TheCable had reported incidents of electoral violence and voter suppression in states like Lagos, Delta, Kano and Abia. Social media was also awash with ethnic slurs and profiling. Addressing the issues, Tinubu condemned “the reported isolated infractions” and described them as “unacceptable and antithetical to democratic ethos”. “However, I’m saddened by the reported isolated infractions during the elections and its aftermath in some states. I strongly condemn it. Also, the report of arson after the announcement of governorship results in one state did not represent who we truly are: peace-loving people,” the statement reads. “The physical and verbal assaults committed are unacceptable and antithetical to democratic ethos. “Elections should be a celebration of our maturing democracy and freedom of choice and ought not to be moments of grief. I am particularly pained by cases of ethnic slurs, which are capable of creating needless mischaracterisation reported in some locations. “My appeal is for us to rise above our differences, which, in reality, are fewer than the valued strings that bind us together as a people irrespective of the circumstances of our births. “As former governor of Lagos State, I can attest to the strength in our diversity and togetherness. As your President-elect, it is that spirit of inclusiveness we engendered in Lagos that I intend to bring into national governance so that together we can attain our full potential. “I will give priority to expanding the civic space and safeguarding citizens’ freedom to exercise their rights within the bounds of the law. “In a democracy, majority would have their way but that majority must not suppress the minority from having their say. As democrats, we have to safeguard free expression. Winners must be magnanimous, and those who did not win should have a large heart for tolerance and respect for the greater interest of the nation.” https://www.thecable.ng/tinubu-time-for-politicking-is-over-we-must-begin-the-healing-process/amp |
Lawyer Shares Before And After Photos Of Herself 6 Years After Walking Out Of Her Marriage Olasumbo, a Nigerian lawyer, has gone online to talk about the marriage she left. She took to Twitter to share before and after photos showing her amazing transformation six years after walking out on her marriage with her two children. The 30-year-old mother of two shared her story via Twitter when she celebrated Mother's Day on Sunday, March 19, 2023. “This is what I looked like when I walked out of my marriage in 2017 with two toddlers. I just clocked 30, I was mentally, emotionally and financially drained. I was tired and i knew i had to walk away. Did i know what i was going to do next? No but i walked,” she wrote. "Okay let me tell you why it looks all shitty, I left my marriage clueless about the next thing to do but knew I had to run for my life yet I has no family support. I was not lucky to come from a stable family background, my ex saw this and capitalised on it. "The marriage was 4 years old as at when it officially ended but it was dead from the beginning. I know the judginas will ask if I didn't see the red flag...well story for another day but well the deed has been done and now I have two kids who had no fault. "My entire desire was to protect my kids. I mean they know nothing about the folly and stupidity of the parents that brought them to this world. I saved up and got my own apartment. I remember crying so much the first night I moved into my new home. I was scared. "I had never gone on this kind of journey before and i don't know how to walk this path. I was totally confused and clueless. I was more afraid for my kids, scared they would suffer which i do not want, what if they fall sick and I can't take care of them? So many what ifs. "All these was in 2017....this is 2023 and yes it has not been a smooth journey...my life has taken a pause because I was not opportune to have a family support and I had to learn, unlearn and relearn on my own. My career has suffered so much. Yes. "My wants, desires has all been pushed to the base because I can't afford all at once so my kids come first..it has not been an easy ride doing this alone, no single financial support from the man who bore them even though he has 100% access to these kids. “I look back today and ask myself if it is all worth it and Yes I am happy I made that decision. I am proud of the pains, the tears, the laughter. I am proud for holding myself strong despite the stigma and backlash that comes with being a single mom. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ME.” https://www.tori.ng/news/230638/nigerian-lawyer-shares-before-and-after-photos-of.html
