According to Mele Kyari, the oil corporation will cease to exist within the next six months as specified by the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA). Group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mele Kyari has made a new revelation concerning the corporation. This comes after President Muhammadu Buhari signed the Petroleum Industry Bill into law. According to him, the oil corporation will cease to exist within the next six months as specified by the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA). Kyari who made the disclosure in an interview on Arise TV on Monday August 16, said the corporation would be transformed into a private company that would pay taxes and dividends to its shareholders. He added that though all assets and liabilities of the NNPC is expected to be transferred to the new company, Kyari said some toxic assets of the corporation may not be transferred. The NNPC GMD said; “Coming back to the NNPC, the provision of the law clearly states that the corporation will be transformed into a CAMA company. This meaning of this is that the company will just be another privately owned company, in a sense. “This company will pay taxes, royalties and dividends to its shareholders. This isn’t the situation today because the corporation has no such obligation. This has stalled its development, its growth and its prosperity. “According to the new Petroleum Industry Act, a new company will be incorporated within six months . That means all assets and liabilities of the NNPC will be transferred to the new company. “Not all of them, by the way. The bill is very clear. Some toxic assets of the corporation may not be transferred. The federation or shareholders can decide to keep some of the assets and leave some with the corporation. “Therefore, you are going to have a much more efficient, much more slimmer, much more commercial national oil company.” https://www.arise.tv/nnpc-will-cease-to-exist-within-six-months-gmd-mele-kyari/ |
Nigerian filmmakers have lamented the huge disparities between the rates offered by United States-based streaming platform, Netflix, for Nigerian films and those of their Asian and European industries. Some of them stated that the compensation from Netflix was not reflective of market rates, as the average licensing fees for Nollywood came between $10,000 to $90,000, while Netflix planned to spend $500million on films and series produced in Asia and Europe. Nollywood experts also expressed concern over the continued domination of the industry by Netflix. Since its foray into Nigeria, the streaming giant has taken a firm grip on the country's movie industry, with many movie producers now more interested in having their projects on the platform than cinemas, the Verge reports. But experts say the trend is inimical to Nollywood's growth if left unchecked. Commenting on this, Moses Babatope, managing director of FilmOne Entertainment, the country’s trendiest distribution operation said the situation is caused by lack of enough funds for Nigerian filmmakers. “There have been some worries about the production quality of Nollywood films dropping, but rather than blame it on the ingress of streaming platforms, I will focus more on the level of investments made in production,” he said. “How much production budget are these filmmakers working with? I don’t believe any passionate filmmaker will willingly drop standards if there is finance to work with.” Aside the domination, there are also concerns over Netflix's compensation rate for Nigerian movies and other African projects. Netflix offers compensation that it claims is reflective of market rates. This comes down to average licensing fees of between $10,000 to $90,000, with most deals landing near the middle range according to off-the-record conversations with producers. But in comparison, Netflix plans to spend $500million on films and series produced in South Korea this year alone, the same amount the company announced it spent making and licensing content in the United Kingdom in 2019. At the heart of this disparity lies a critical discussion about how African art is valued in mainstream spaces. Speaking on this, Walter Taylaur, who has had two of his films licensed on the platform, argues, “Their explanation would make better sense if the films were being shown in Nigeria alone. But if you think the content is good enough to be shown in worldwide markets, maybe pay worldwide rates.” http://saharareporters.com/2021/08/14/nigerian-filmmakers-react-netflix-offers-90000-nollywood-500million-asian-european-films prof800

A school dropout who aspired to build a helicopter has died after one of the blades of his helicopter prototype slashed his throat while he was testing it. 24-year-old Sheikh Ismail Sheikh Ibrahim, a school dropout from Maharashtra's Fulsawangi village in Mahagaon tehsil, India, had built the prototype of a single-seater helicopter by welding steel pipes. His passion was to do something extraordinary to bring fame to his village. So, he decided to build a chopper named "Munna Helicopter" because that was his nickname. His friend Sachin told Times of India, "Inspired by the character of Rancho in the film ‘3 Idiots", Ismail wanted to do something unique and hence decided to build a helicopter in the village. After gathering information about the design and assembly by watching YouTube videos, he started working on his dream project. "It took nearly two years for Ismail to collect all the parts needed. He also readied the prototype of a single- seater helicopter by welding steel pipes and fitted a Maruti 800 engine to power it." Ismail wanted to showcase his helicopter to the entire village on Independence Day so he decided to check the prototype of his chopper near his workshop on Tuesday, August 10th in front of his friends. https://alexis.lindaikejisblog.com/photos/shares/611543c003d82.png Everyone saw Ismail starting the engine. Then the rotor blades wings started to move speedily. After this, the tail rotor blade got ripped off from the body and hit the main blades on the top. https://alexis.lindaikejisblog.com/photos/shares/611543fcce36e.png Before anyone could do something, a broken blade slashed Ismail's throat and he collapsed on the ground. He was rushed to the nearest hospital in Pusad. However, he didn't survive. According to a report by SaharaReporters, a postgraduate student of Bayero University Kano has narrated her encounter with officials of the Islamic police, Hisbah corps. The lady told SaharaReporters that Hisbah officials barged into her hostel some months ago while she was cooking and arrested her because she had a male guest with her. http://saharareporters.com/2021/08/12/kano-islamic-police-arrested-us-our-hostels-conducted-hiv-pregnancy-tests-us—bayero She said she was taken to a building alongside the male guest where she saw 30 other students of the institution and some others who were not students. According to her, they were detained for about a day or two within which the Hisbah officials conducted HIV and pregnancy tests on them. She alleged that the officers forcibly gave abortion pills to one of them whose pregnancy test was positive. She said the victim cried bitterly. She further alleged that the officers requested sex in exchange for their freedom while others were released on bail ranging from N15, 000 to N20, 000. She said, “I had an encounter with Hisbah about two months ago. I am currently a master's student at BUK. Hisbah officers barged into my room, they met me with a male guest. I was cooking, they knocked and I opened the door. They arrested us both and took us to a building of theirs, held us hostage for a day. “They took our phones from us. We met other people there, many others. About 30 students of BUK or more while others were non-students. They had arrested some prostitutes too. All of us were held at the same building. While we were there, some funny things happened. “The Hisbah officials conducted HIV and pregnancy tests for everyone there. Those who tested positive for HIV were taken to the hospital and one person's pregnancy test was positive. “She was given a drug to abort the pregnancy without her consent, this happened in the same building where they took us hostage. When we confronted the woman who gave the pills for the abortion because she claimed to be a health worker, the woman said they were doing that because the girls were prostitutes. “The girl cried so hard. She cried from the pain of the forceful abortion and losing her child. I saw her washed blood. They gave her N500 to buy food. “While we were also there, the Hisbah boys were asking girls there to have sex with them, saying they would release them. Some ladies there slept with them in the building, then let them go. “One of the boys physically abused me. He didn’t rape me because it was in the open. But he was touching sensitive parts of my body. I could only hit his hand. “I boldly told them I was not aware that men can’t visit me. I have men in my class, in my church, in my house. Most of the occupants in my house are men. Why will they take me? “They asked for 'a ransom' (bail money) from everyone there. I didn’t pay though because my uncle came and took me home. I didn't pay a dime but others paid between N15, 000 and N20, 000. I thought our school would come for us. “Some Igbo ladies there told me they just lodged in a hotel, two sisters, they came to the market to buy foodstuffs and lodged in the hotel. The Hisbah corps forcefully barged into their hotel room and took both of them. In fact, just two ladies, no man but Hisbah was like, why should they lodge in the hotel, that they are prostitutes. They said after all, what are hotels for. “They took people from the streets, hotels, and houses.” Officials of Hisbah in March similarly invaded some off-campus hostels at Danbare, a small community directly opposite the university’s gate. It was learnt that the Islamic police broke into the students’ rooms and took them to their office. Despite condemnation from Nigerians, the Hisbah group has continued its push for an Islamic agenda in the North. The agency established to enforce Sharia law in some states in the region recently banned stylish haircuts, sagging of trousers, playing of music at social events by disk jockeys and tricycle riders from adorning their vehicles with pictures considered to be obscene and against the tenents of Islam. This was in addition to other unusual directives reeled out by the Islamic police. Hisbah recently made headlines for shaving stylish haircuts of young men in Kano and arresting people for improper dressing. They are also notorious for destroying truckloads of alcoholic drinks. https://www.tori.ng/news/177661/kano-hisbah-arrested-us-in-our-hostels-conducted-h.html https://www.tori.ng/userfiles/image/2021/aug/12/Hisbah-Jigawa.jpg |

Nigeria Police Doing Hit Jobs For Gangsters— Activist, Sowore Slams Detention Of Vlogger Who Exposed Apostle Suleman's Miracle Scam Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore has called for the immediate release of vlogger, Israel Balogun, by the Nigeria Police Force. Balogun, in a video, exposed the claims made by the founder of Omega Fire Ministries, Apostle Johnson Suleman that he commanded angels to deposit money in the bank accounts of some worshippers in Auchi, Edo State, and Atlanta, Georgia, United States. On Wednesday, the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (FCIID) detained Balogun for criticising Suleiman over the cleric's claim that he commanded angels to deposit money in the bank accounts of some members of his congregation. Counsel for Balogun, Barrister Inibehe Effiong disclosed this on Wednesday shortly after he accompanied Balogun to the FCIID at Area 10, Garki, Abuja over a petition written against him by Suleman on alleged criminal defamation and cyberstalking. Reacting, Sowore stated that the Nigeria Police Force is being used by non-state gangsters, citing similar cases of abuse of power by the police. Sowore queried the rationale behind the arrest of Balogun and called for the release of the detained blogger. He said, "It is a shame that Nigeria Police Force would offer itself up to be hired for personal hit jobs on behalf of gangsters instead of going after the gangsters in government as well as non-state gangsters. “How do you detain a YouTuber for criticising scams known as 'miracle money alerts?' The IGP (Inspector-General of Police) must release Israel Balogun immediately! He’s not committed any offence known to law against Apostle Johnson Suleman. “In recent weeks we’ve seen how the Police was used by a former Attorney General, Bello Adoke to go after Olanrewaju Suraju for exposing his corruption, a former minister, Femi Fani-Kayode deployed the police against his estranged wife, Precious Chikwendu and now a clergy has procured the police hierarchy to hunt down free speech. “Yesterday, I heard a former Governor Of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim also used the police at the FCIID against an estranged mistress. “The Katsina state Gov. Bello Masari a few months ago used the FCIID to hound a whistleblower Shehu Mahdi for allegedly defaming him. “These cases are some of the many cases of abuse of police power that is notoriously rampant. We must stop the police authorities now before they provoke another #EndSARS! #RevolutionNow.” http://saharareporters.com/2021/08/12/nigeria-police-doing-hit-jobs-gangsters-activist-sowore-slams-detention-vlogger-who |
A Yola chief magistrate court has sentenced Ali Yakubu Numan, a businessman, to two and a half years in prison for calling Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Adamawa governor (pictured), “father of all thieves”. The businessman, who described Fintiri as “a thief and father of thieves”, was remanded in prison custody following his arraignment on defamation charges by the attorney-general of Adamawa state. Numan had on July 11, 12th, 13, 17, 20 and 29, 2021, written and published insulting statements in Hausa and Fulfulde on his Facebook page against the governor. In the publications, he described Fintiri as a thief and father of all thieves in Nigeria who stole noodles, spaghetti and billions of naira from the state coffers. I.M. Iliyasu, and M.A. Adamu, prosecuting lawyers, had called two witnesses who testified in court and tendered confessional statements in both English and Hausa. Delivering judgment on Wednesday, Japhet Basani, the magistrate, found the accused guilty of the two charges brought against him by the prosecution. Numan was sentenced to a two-year jail term with an option of N50,000 fine for using abusive language against Fintiri. He was also sentenced to six-month imprisonment without the option of a fine for disturbance of public peace. Earlier, R. N. Agav, Numan’s counsel, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy, adding that his client is a first time offender. https://www.thecable.ng/extra-businessman-sentenced-to-30-months-in-jail-for-calling-fintiri-father-of-all-thieves

The federal government has approved over N4 billion for the fuelling of police vehicles. Muhammad Dingyadi, minister of police affairs, disclosed this at the National Institute of Police Studies on Tuesday. Dingyadi said the amount will cover expenditure on fuel supply to police commands in the 36 states of the federation and the federal capital territory. He said the amount approved for the fuelling in the 2021 budget was the first in the history of the police, adding that the ministry will sustain the gesture. “The Ministry is deeply grateful to Mr. President and the National Assembly for approving funds for the supply of fuel to the 36 state Police commands across the country and FCT, to increase their efficiency,” Dingyadi said. “As we speak, the Police Trust Fund has awarded contracts for the supply of more operational vehicles, body protection vest, helmet, arms and ammunition, drugs and medical equipment, and other critical security hardware.” The minister pledged the commitment of the ministry to prioritise the training and development of police officers. He said the ministry in conjunction with the leadership of the police has developed strategies to meet the training and development needs of police officers. As parts of efforts to increase police efficiency and cater to the welfare of officers, President Muhammadu Buhari, in 2018, approved an enhanced salary structure for the Nigeria Police Force. Following the #EndSARS protests in October 2020, Buhari also directed the national salaries, income and wages commission to finalise the new salary structure for members of the force. The directive was in line with one of the demands of the protesters, which called for an upward review of salaries of officers, in a bid to curb police brutality and harassment. https://www.thecable.ng/fg-approves-n4bn-for-fuelling-of-police-vehicles-first-time-in-history-of-the-force |

https://www.tori.ng/userfiles/image/2021/aug/07/kudi.JPG The story has been told of Verphy Kudi, a teen mum who left her daughter at home to starve to death, while she traveled to celebrate her 18th birthday. She has now been jailed for nine years over the act. Verphy Kudi abandoned 20-month-old Asiah at her flat in Brighton, England, for almost six days while she partied in London and Coventry. She left her flat on December 5 and traveled to London to spend her birthday with her boyfriend. On Dec 7, she attended a 1990s music concert in Elephant and Castle, south London, and had a DJ announce her birthday to partygoers while her daughter was alone at home. She stayed out until 4am at the concert. On Dec 9, she attended another party in Coventry then went back to London before finally returning home on December 11. Unfortunately, Asiah died from influenza and starvation after being left unattended at the flat, prosecutors said. https://www.tori.ng/userfiles/image/2021/aug/07/kudi1.JPG Kudi pictured at a concert in Elephant and Castle Kudi, now 19, returned to her flat on December 11, 2019, and found her daughter lying on the floor. She was "incoherent, distressed, and distraught" as she called paramedics. Verphy Kudi pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced at Lewes Crown Court today, August 6. Sentencing Kudi, Judge Christine Laing QC said: "Asiah was alone in that flat for six days unable to do anything to draw attention to her plight. "She was a helpless child and relied completely on you as her mother to provide for her needs. "It is almost unbearable to contemplate her suffering in the final days of her life, suffering that she endured so that you could celebrate your birthday and the birthdays of your friends as a carefree teenager. https://www.tori.ng/userfiles/image/2021/aug/07/kudi2.JPG Verphy Kudi returning to her home in Brighton on December 11 Judge Laing added: "It goes without saying that this is a particularly tragic case and it no doubt raises strong emotions in all who hear of it, but everyone should bear in mind that the charge I sentence you for is one of manslaughter, it being accepted that you did not intend to cause Asiah death nor to cause her really serious harm." In a statement released by Sussex Police, Asiah and Verphy’s family said: "We are saddened by the current situation and as a family, we have many unanswered questions. A pastor has cried out that members of his church are no longer paying tithe and offerings because they are broke. The pastor from Ghana said that was what forced him to join protest against the government on the 4th of August, 2021. Recall that many Ghanaians took to the streets of Accra on the 4th of August to protest against what they see as social, economic and infrastructure challenges in the country. In the video that was shared on social media, the pastor said he’s protesting because of the bad leadership which is beginning to affect his members who have been rendered jobless and broke due to the nation’s terrible economy. ”This demonstration is a peaceful demonstration, we are not going to destroy any property. We are not against NDC nor NPP but we are against the bad leadership of this nation. the bad governance of this nation. Nowadays our church members when they come to church they cant give offerings.. they can’t pay their tithe because all our members are broke.he said. According to Apple, the messaging app will use on-device machine learning to warn about sensitive content without making private communications readable by the company. https://www.tori.ng/userfiles/image/2021/aug/06/Apple%20scan.JPG Apple has announced new updates to its software for iPhones and other devices saying it will start to scan U.S. iPhones for images of child sexual abuse. The decision by Apple to start scanning phones drew applause from child protection groups but security researchers say the system could be misused by governments like China, Belarus and Nigeria looking to surveil activities of its citizens. According to Apple, the messaging app will use on-device machine learning to warn about sensitive content without making private communications readable by the company. The tool Apple calls “neuralMatch” will detect known images of child sexual abuse without decrypting people’s messages. If it finds a match, the image will be reviewed by a human who can notify law enforcement if necessary. But not everyone likes the new software update.Top cryptography researcher, Matthew Green of Johns Hopkins, was concerned that it could be used to frame innocent people by sending them harmless but malicious images designed to appear as matches for child porn, deceiving Apple’s algorithm and alerting law enforcement – essentially framing people. “Researchers have been able to do this pretty easily, ” he said. “What happens when the Chinese government says, ‘Here is a list of files that we want you to scan for,’ ” Green said. “Does Apple say no? I hope they say no, but their technology won’t say no.” Tech companies including Microsoft, Google, Facebook and others have for years been sharing “hash lists” of known images of child sexual abuse.Apple has also been scanning user files stored in its iCloud service, which is not as securely encrypted as its messages, for such images. https://www.tori.ng/news/177089/apple-to-scan-photos-in-peoples-phones-for-images.html https://eu.usatoday.com/story/tech/2021/08/05/apple-scan-u-s-iphones-images-child-abuse/5504802001/ |

Kyari received bribes to the tune of N8 million from Abass to arrest and detain another fraudster, Vincent Chibuzor who he(Abass) had a fallout with. https://politicsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Screenshot-2021-08-03-at-1.50.38-PM.png Vincent Chibuzor Fresh information made available to POLITICS NIGERIA reveals that the FBI has arrested two other accomplices of Hushpuppi mentioned in the federal Indictment alongside Kyari. Motunrayo Fashola and Bolatito Agbabiaka have been arrested but were granted bail. https://politicsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Screenshot-2021-08-03-at-1.52.15-PM.png Motunrayo Fashola The other outstanding warrants that have not been effected are those of Kyari and Vincent Chibuzo. FBI agents visited Nigeria last week to meet with senior police officers in order to effect the warrant of arrest on Kyari. https://politicsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Screenshot-2021-08-03-at-1.50.58-PM.png Bolatito Agbabiaka Motunrayo has a child with Hushpuppi and has been living in New York while Agbabiaka lives in New Jersey. Both women were in charge of Wells Fargo and Capital One bank accounts used by the syndicate to defraud a Qatari businessperson. It can be recalled that Hushpuppi, Vincent Chibuzor, Motunrayo and Agbabiaka conspired to defraud a Qatari businessman of $1.1 million. The scheme was going on well until Chibuzor contacted the victim and alerted him that Hushpuppi was a fraudster. This annoyed Hushpuppi who then contacted Kyari to arrest and detain Chibuzor, who was in Nigeria at the time. Hushpuppi briefed Kyari on the fraudulent scheme, explaining how Chibuzor wanted to frustrate it. Kyari subsequently arrested Chibuzor and held him in detention for 5 weeks. This enabled Hushpuppi to further defraud the Qatari businessman of $575,000. Chibuzo was finally released after he developed a terrible illness with skin rashes and appeals from family members. https://www.tori.ng/userfiles/image/2021/aug/03/Hush%20accomplices.JPG https://politicsnigeria.com/breaking-abba-kyari-faces-extradition-as-fbi-arrests-two-of-hushpuppis-associates/ |
