The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled a chieftain, Sulaiman Adamu for saying he wished Vice President Yemi Osinbajo replaced President Muhammadu Buhari. Adamu was the Caretaker Chairman of the party in Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa State. A statement on Thursday by John Akpan Udoedehe, APC National Secretary said the expulsion takes immediate effect. The scribe said it was part of the resolutions reached at the 16th meeting of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) held at the National Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday. He disclosed that the party received and deliberated on the report of Adamu’s infractions and recommendations of the 7-member disciplinary committee set up by the Adamawa State Working Committee. The APC condemned Adamu for making “unwholesome utterances on President Muhammadu Buhari, the Leader of the Party”. “He was also found guilty of bringing the image of the party to disrepute thereby creating doubt on his leadership quality and loyalty to the party.” The CECPC told members to always demonstrate and restraint and desist from acts and utterances that are inimical to the interest of the ruling platform. In August, the Department of State Security Services (DSS) grilled former Adamawa Governor Jibrilla Bindow over comments against Buhari. Bindow, defeated by former Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Governor Bala Mohammed of the Peoples’s Democratic Party (PDP), had convened a meeting of his allies. It was part of consultations as he prepares to join the 2023 governorship race. The parley was attended by Adamu, ex-Adamawa Speaker, Kabiru Mijinyawa; ex-Administrator, Yola West Development Area, Abubakar Sirimbai; ex-Commissioner, Aliyu Mustapha, and ex-adviser, Yusha’u Adamu. In a leaked audio, Adamu attacked Buhari for his leadership, complaining bitterly about the state of the country and the party. “Even Buhari himself, what is his impact on the party? Of what value is he to us? How I wish he had contracted coronavirus, so that Osinbajo would take over”, Adamu had said in Fulfulde. https://dailypost.ng/2021/09/02/apc-expels-adamu-party-chairman-who-wished-osinbajo-replaced-buhari/ |

The sacking was announced by the governor himself at the end of an expanded executive meeting at the Government House on Monday in Lafia. Abdullahi Sule, Nasarawa Governor, says he has sacked all members of the State Executive Council. The sacking was announced by the governor himselfat the end of an expanded executive meeting at the Government House on Monday in Lafia. He did not give any reason for his action. The governor, while thanking the sacked commissioners for the sacrifices they made towards repositioning the state in the last two years of his administration, also directed that all Special Advisers, Special Assistants and Senior Special Assistants should vacate their offices. A source who spoke on condition of anonymity within the government circle stated that most of the political appointees were recommended to the governor by his predecessors and that he had to sack them in order to fix his foot soldiers in preparation for the forthcoming local government elections slated for October 6th and also for the 2023 governorship election, as he might be seeking reelection. “We all know that most of the political appointees in this state were recommended by past governors of the state. So, I believe that he is sacking them to be able to bring his foot soldiers into the political system before the commencement of the local government elections on October 6th and the governorship election in 2023, because he has been getting endorsement across the state to continue as governor,” the source alleged. https://punchng.com/breaking-nasarawa-gov-announces-sacking-of-aides-commissioners/ |
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed reports that the military helicopters fired at a cargo boat conveying people and food stuff from Port Harcourt to Bonny. It was widely reported on Friday that a military chopper opened fire on cargo boat conveying food stuff from Port Harcourt to Bonny. Reacting to the allegation in a statement on Monday, the Director, Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Benjamin Sawyerr, said the report was false. Sawyerr said that the Air Component of the Joint Task Force Operation Delta Safe (OPDS) received reports from ground troops who were on clearance operations but encountered resistance at the point of encounter. According to him, on receiving the report a combat helicopter was dispatched to provide close air support mission along the Cawthorne Channel. He said that the helicopter encountered an illegal oil bunkering boat popularly called “Cotonou Boat”. “The boat which was being escorted by two speedboats was suspected to be carrying illegally refined oil products in large drums along the Channel in the direction of OPDS patrol boats. “On sighting the boat, warning shots were fired to dissuade the crew from hostile action. “The crew fired back at the helicopter and the boat was engaged accordingly. The two speedboats detached from the convoy at high speed leaving the “Cotonou Boat” which was neutralised. “The helicopter later went after the two speedboats but was unable to track it, while the suspects are still at large and a manhunt has been sent out to apprehend them,” he said. The Defence spokesman said that the military had remained a professional institution that operates in line with best practices through the application of rule of engagement and code of conduct. He added that the military was also positioned to protect the populace rather than victimising them. According to him, efforts by anyone to protect criminality by disparaging the actions of the Military in preventing economic sabotage and other sundry crimes need to be condemned by all. He urged the public to disregard the report and continue to provide accurate information to troops that would help the military safeguard lives, properties as well as government assets in the South-South region. https://theeagleonline.com.ng/military-did-not-fire-at-cargo-boat-on-bonny-river-dhq/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=military-did-not-fire-at-cargo-boat-on-bonny-river-dhq |

Kunle Olawunmi, a retired commodore of the Nigerian Navy, is currently in the news following his recent comments on Nigeria’s security challenges when he featured on Sunrise Daily, a programme on Channels Television. Olawunmi, who is currently the head of the department of criminology and security studies at Chrisland University, Abeokuta, Ogun state, was said to have been declared wanted by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) after the interview, but the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has debunked the claim. Speaking on the August 24 attack on the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna, the retired naval officer commented on the need to improve Nigeria’s security architecture across military formations, with particular focus on addressing insurgency by prosecuting persons accused of sponsoring acts of terrorism. Reproduced below is what he said, as listened to by TheCable. ON THE NDA ATTACK “My impression, I think, is just the impression of every Nigerian at this point. This is an aberration. I mean, you don’t attack Nigerian Defence Academy and kill officers and get away with it. The last time I was in NDA was in 2017. I went to carry out an investigation by the minister of defence that wanted me to check what is going on with the training, and the security environment there. “I remember I spent about a week at the NDA, with the commandant, and with the staff. But something struck me. And that was every Friday, the gate of NDA is thrown open, and everybody has access to come and pray in the mosque. I want to actually enjoin journalists to go to all military formations across the country on Friday by one o’clock. You are going to see the same thing happening across all military formations. “If you go to Defence Headquarters — I served at Defence Headquarters as the deputy director, defence administration between 2015 and 2017. Throughout my two years at Defence Headquarters, I received visitors only twice because of the strict security architecture at the Defence Headquarters. But every Friday, the gate of Defence Headquarters is thrown wide open for everybody to come in and do Juma’at. “That is the time the terrorists have the time to profile our security environment. It has always been the case. I’ve served in military intelligence for the past 35 years. Our problem is religion and socio-cultural. People expect me to come here and start talking about kinetics, about operations, and so on. I’ve been an operation commander all my life. I’ve commanded warships, troops, men outside Nigeria and so on. But I’m not going to come to your station to discuss kinetics. The problem is not kinetics. In 2017… 2016, I’m always a member of the security and intelligence brief at the Defence Headquarters. I told them – General Olonisakin then – that the challenge we have in this country cannot be solved the same way we solved the problem of the Niger Delta.” ON ALLEGED SPONSORS OF BOKO HARAM INSURGENCY “I told Olonisakin that the centre of gravity of Boko Haram and insurgency in Nigeria are the sponsors of that programme. It was beyond us, because the job we need to do is kinetics; fight, destroy places, resolve issues. But we cannot resolve issues of sponsors of Boko Haram that were in Buhari’s government that we know, that we know then. “I was in the military intelligence and the Defence Headquarters’ staff that I worked with know and that was how we couldn’t pursue that aspect that could have resolved that problem, because you need to arrest people. “Recently, 400 people were gathered as sponsors of Boko Haram. Why is it that the Buhari government has refused to try them? “In April this year, the government said they have arrested 400 Bureau de Change (BDCs)-related people that were sponsoring Boko Haram. They told us. And Abu Dhabi also helped us to arrest few Nigerians. Why can’t this government, if not that they are partisan, and part of the charade going on, why can’t they bring these people out for trial? “The people I mentioned that are in government are not these ones that they just arrested. You remember this Boko Haram issue started since 2012 and I was in the military intelligence that time. We arrested those people. It’s my organisation that actually conducted interrogation and interview and they mentioned names. “I can’t come on air and start mentioning names of people that are presently in government now that I know that the boys that we arrested mentioned. Some of them are governors now. Some of them are in the senate. Some of them are in Aso Rock. Why should a government try to cause this kind of embarrassment? “The truth I’m telling you now, not about sentiment, is that there are groups of people that feel that this country should be Islamised. This is a fact, except you want me to start mentioning names of people in this government that we have interrogated. I was a member of an interrogation team and I’ve interrogated a very high-ranking member of this government in 2007, 2008 on issue of Boko Haram. I interrogated him. He’s in the government right now. And what was the issue? Boko Haram. And this senior officer was actually let go, because he was found culpable. But right now, he’s in the government. ON EFFORTS MADE BY GOVERNMENT TO TACKLE INSURGENCY “When you have a problem at policy level, strategic level or operational level, what you need to do is identify the centre of gravity of the problem and attack it. What they (the federal government) are doing is not attacking the centre of gravity of the problem of Boko Haram and insurgency. “So if the president is buying Super Tucano (jets), changing service chiefs, that is not the solution. We are looking at the wrong side. It’s not kinetics, it’s politics. The centre of gravity is what they should look at and it is the sponsor of Boko Haram and bandits. “I was surprised at the tremendous information at the DSS. There have so much information presently at DSS about what I am talking about. But if a fish is going to get spoilt, it is going to start getting spoilt from the head. The DSS will not do anything except the commander-in-chief’s body language shows that this is the direction I want to go. That is what the problem is. “The DSS has tremendous information. By the time 2023 is here and somebody take over and wants to undo some of these evils that I have seen in this country, you will be surprised names that the DSS will bring out. They have the information, there is nothing I want to say here that they don’t have. The Defence Headquarters has the solution for the kinetics aspect, they do. I am not going to come here to advise them. I worked with them and they are still there. “The chief of naval staff was in the intelligence with me, we were together in Defence Intelligence Agency, that is Vice Admiral Gambo. I know these people are good, they know what to do. It’s not that they have problems. It has to do with politics, the sponsors, people that feel this country should be Islamised.” ‘END GAME IS TO TURN NIGERIA TO A TALIBAN COUNTRY’ “When you want to look at these type of challenges, what you do is go through what we call the intelligence circle. When you do the processing and analysis before dissemination point, you discover that the end game for them is to just turn this country to a Taliban type of country. “It’s a mindset and anything goes. In other words, 10 percent casualty, 20 percent casualty is allowed in trying to achieve the end game of Islamising this country. “The sponsors of Boko Haram and the bandits are the problems. And Defence Headquarters, army headquarters, naval headquarters, and the air force cannot do anything about that. Buhari has to do something about it. “The Interpol has the list of those people sponsoring Boko Haram. I worked with Interpol. If they don’t know, they should ask. The government of Dubai have the list of those people during the trial, names were mentioned; they have the list. The government also said they arrested 400 sponsors of Boko Haram, why should a government not try those people and bring peace, harmony and safety to this nation. Why wouldn’t a government do that?” https://www.thecable.ng/verbatim-what-retired-naval-officer-said-on-channels-tv-about-boko-haram-nda-attack |
Rotimi Amaechi, minister of transportation, says the political elite have wasted the country’s resources, depriving the youths of needed development. Speaking in an interview with Daily Trust , Amaechi said most of the “big men” have already fled their states for Abuja “which is protected because the president is here”. He added that however, someday, “the young boys we deprived” will rise up and chase the government out of Abuja, the seat of power. The minister said infrastructural development is key to securing the future of the youths, hence the Buhari administration’s focus on building infrastructure. “What the president is saying is: let us create infrastructure. The president would ask how we feel when we get to Cape Town. You will be ashamed being a Nigerian because the political elites have burnt our resources and not able to put infrastructures on ground. The only thing you will hear of Nigeria is that you should come to Abuja; that it is a fine city. But Abuja does not feed anybody. If we are not careful, we will be chased out of Abuja,” Amaechi said. “In the past, when I was the speaker and later, governor, I said we would wake up one day and the young boys we deprived would chase us out of town. How many big men are still living in their states? They have all run away. Everybody is here in Abuja, which is protected because the president is here. One day, the boys will be courageous and we will be on the run. “If we don’t follow what the president is saying by not only diversifying the economy but also putting the necessary infrastructures in place, there will be no need to stay together as Nigerians.” Commenting on the legacies he will leave behind, Amaechi said unlike previous governments, no one can openly steal money in the Buhari administration. “Can you openly take money in this government? In the past governments, what happened? You can take money in the streets. Corruption was so pervasive that nobody was talking about it,” he said. “It was not hidden that people completely and openly displayed their wealth. They did not have a carpentry shop, but they were billionaires. They did not hide it; but here, if you are stealing, it is done quietly. I am not saying it is good, it is a sin punishable.” Asked what his plans are after 2023, “I will sleep”, after which he said he will obtain a PhD and go into teaching. https://www.thecable.ng/amaechi-one-day-the-young-boys-we-deprived-will-chase-us-out-of-abuja |

There are fears of casualties, with some occupants severely injured and rushed to the hospital. A yet-to-be identified helicopter has reportedly shot at a local passenger boat travelling from Port Harcourt to Bonny in Rivers State. According to Punch, an eye witnesses at the Bonny-Nembe waterside where the boat took off from in Port Harcourt, told newsmen that there were casualties. While expressing shock over the incident, he said that the boat conveyed passengers and foodstuff. “The local boat that just left here to Bonny, within the Treasure Island area, a chopper or I will call it a flight helicopter, just came behind, went very low and started shooting at the wooden boat. “From the information we got from a boat driver, there were passengers in the boat. The boat also contained foodstuff such as garri, rice and other items. “Everyone knows that is the route transporting foodstuff to Bonny. Rano LGA of Kano state has barred men and women from meeting in public places at night. According to Premium Times, Habibu Faragai, the LGA information officer, said Dahiru Muhammad, the council chairman, announced the new law on Wednesday at a security committee meeting attended by residents and traditional leaders. Muhammad said the committee had raised the alarm over the high rate of immoral activities among people of opposite genders, including divorcees, in the LGA, adding that the concern guided the council to come up with the new law. He said the law was meant to rid the council area of immoral activities occurring during night discussions between persons of opposite sexes. The council boss said lovers can now only meet during the day to discuss, and therefore directed the state’s Hisbah board and other security agents at the local level to ensure compliance and arrest defaulters. Also, Mannir Tafida-Abubakar, Rano LGA district head, called on village, ward heads and imams across the council area to ensure compliance with the new law. Tafida-Abubakar said there are about three major issues bordering on immorality happening in the area which had become a source of concern to residents. “Parents most welcome the decision and support it. If parents do not cooperate and such things happen again, the affected will face the consequences of their negligence,” he said. In 2019, the state government banned persons of opposite genders from entering same commercial tricycle. But Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of the state, suspended the implementation of the law for further review of its practicability. https://www.thecable.ng/kano-lga-bans-men-women-from-meeting-in-public-places-at-night |

In reply, please quote, Ref No. CZ.5300/FPRD/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.4/35 Date: 22nd August, 2021 The Director of News ……………………………. PRESS RELEASE VIOLENT ATTACKS IN THE SOUTH-EAST: POLICE ARREST MILITANTS’ SPY GIRL Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, working with the Military and other security forces, have arrested one 22-year- old female suspect, Gloria Okolie, for her complicity in the series of deliberate and well-coordinated attacks on security formations, other critical national infrastructure including INEC offices and killing of security operatives in the South-Eastern part of the country. The suspect, a native of Umutanza in Imo State, was arrested following ongoing investigations and implementation of special operation, Operation Restore Peace, to amongst other things, break the information, drugs and arms supply chain to the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network in the South-East region. Police Investigations revealed that Gloria Okolie is a member of IPOB/ESN in Imo State who worked closely with one Benjamin Uzoma Emojiri a.k.a “Onye Army”, one of the ESN commanders earlier declared wanted by the Police for his lead roles in planning, coordinating and executing the attack on the Imo State Police Command Headquarters and Imo State Headquarters of the Nigerian Correctional Service. Her arrest and the revelations from her confession, assisted the Police in the arrest of “Onye Army”, a major breakthrough in the quest to restoring law and order in the South-East region. Further investigations by the Police team revealed that Gloria Okolie takes advantage of her gender and seemingly innocuous looks as camouflage to carry out espionage against military and police targets on behalf of IPOB/ESN. The suspect also serves as an intermediate person, who receives cash, drugs and weapons on behalf of IPOB/ESN and deliver same to their commanders in their camps. Through her clandestine criminal activities, she actively aided and abetted the multiple acts of murder, arson and malicious damage to both private and public property by the ESN. A lot of the deadly and unfortunate attacks on security personnel and assets, with numerous fatalities, have the imprimaturs of Gloria Okolie, the spy girl of ESN militants. Investigation is being concluded to enable the Police arraign her in court for prosecution. The Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc (+), fdc, NPM, while commending security operatives for the unrelenting fight against violent crimes in the country, assured citizens of the commitment of the Force to improving public safety and security and upholding law and order in the country. Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of Kano state, has presented astaff of office to Nasiru Bayero, the emir of Bichi. Bayero was appointed emir of Bichi by Ganduje in 2019 following a split of the Kano emirate into five. Speaking at the event, on Saturday, President Muhammadu Buhari described the creation of additional emirates in the state as historic and innovative. Represented by Ibrahim Gambari, his chief of staff, the president asked leaders in the country to rid the nation of divisiveness and unite the people. “Your turbaning at a providential time like this in the history of our country when the prevailing social and socioeconomic conditions have created an opportunity for emerging leaders to display their qualities and work earnestly for continued peace and unity,” Buhari said. “Your father, my friend the late Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, was a symbol of unity, not only within his Kingdom but also within Northern Nigeria and the whole country. “I remember with nostalgia, the passion and commitment he always exhibited in the pursuit of anything he believed in, a distinctive character that almost cost him his life prematurely on 19th January, 2013 because of his vociferous stand against the Boko Haram terrorists.” Buhari added that he will continue to pray for the success of the emir and look forward to his contributions to uplifting the people of his emirate and Nigerians in general. On Saturday, Yusuf, the president’s son, tied the knot with Zahra, the daughter of the emir of Bichi. https://www.thecable.ng/ganduje-presents-staff-of-office-to-nasiru-bayero-buharis-in-law-as-emir-of-bichi

https://www.tori.ng/userfiles/image/2021/aug/18/obj.jpg Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has revealed a sickness he has been battling with for the past 35 years. According to him, he has been battling diabetes for years. He added that the sickness has killed his friends, but he was able to manage it. Mr Obasanjo gave the hint on Wednesday during the closing ceremony of the Ogun State Diabetes Youth Development Camp, held in Abeokuta, Ogun state. The camp, which was organised by Talabi Diabetes Centre, trained 21 children living with type-1 diabetes in the state on how to manage the disease. According to a report by Daily Trust, Mr Obasanjo advised the children to manage the ailment well by maintaining good healthy lifestyle, insisting that diabetes is not a killer disease. The former president told the children to abstain from consuming sugar, foods with carbohydrates and always take their insulin injection in order to manage the disease well. He said: “I have been diagnosed of diabetes for more than 35 years now and here I am, I’m still going about, I’m still jumping up and down, I’m still doing many things many people of my age cannot do. “Since I was diagnosed of diabetes, a number of my friends have died and the reason is because they just did not manage their diabetes the way they should manage it. “It does not matter whether you are type one or type two, so far there is no cure for diabetes, maybe there will be cure before I die, but I pray that there will be cure before you die. “You have to understand the type of food you shouldveat, you must completely abstain from sugar. The amount of carbohydrates that you take must be watched. “Don’t miss your drugs, in your own case, your insulin injection, I take my drugs along with me everywhere I go and I always check my blood sugar level regularly. “Don’t let anybody put fear in your minds, diabetes, has no cure for now, but it can be managed.” https://www.tori.ng/news/178206/expresident-obasanjo-reveals-the-deadly-sickness-h.html |
Two lives have been lost and 8 persons injured as Afghans began protesting against Taliban rule. The incident took place in the Afghan city of Jalalabad. https://www.tori.ng/userfiles/image/2021/aug/18/afghan.jpg The protesters also replaced a Taliban flag with the Afghanistan flag in the Afghan city of Jalalabad. At least two people have been killed and eight others injured in a protest against the Taliban in Jalalabad, according to local media. Taliban soldiers fired into the crowd and beat up protesters who attempted to remove a white Taliban flag and replace it with the Afghanistan flag. The militants took control of the northeastern city, a commercial hub near the main border crossing with Pakistan, four days earlier with little resistance after negotiating a deal with local leaders. But in a brave show of resistance, hundreds of residents marched through the main shopping street, whistling, shouting and carrying large flags of the Afghan Republic. Some protesters climbed onto buildings to remove the Taliban flag and replace it with the red, black and green Afghanistan flag. Taliban fighters fired in the air to break up the crowd. In one video at least ten gunshots can be heard. While some people can be seen running away, others stayed and continued cheering and whistling. Taliban soldiers are said to have then resorted to violence, with local media saying there had been at least two casualties, though this has not been confirmed. Meanwhile, journalist Hafizullah Maroof tweeted that colleagues in the city were "crying in tears" after being beaten up by Taliban fighters while covering the protest. There are also reports of multiple deaths and injuries at a demonstration in the southeastern city of Khost, Daily Star reports. Dramatic photos and video shows hundreds of people taking to the street, with gunshots heard in the background. Street protests are also underway in Asadabad in the Kunar province, as anger grows over the Taliban takeover. Watch a video from the scene below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GelB6jzukr4 |
The women and children were attacked with whips and sticks as they try to pass Taliban checkpoints. https://www.tori.ng/userfiles/image/2021/aug/18/whipped.jpg Children and women were whipped by the Taliban Fighters belonging to the Taliban have been seen whipping and beating women and children attempting to flee the country at the Kabul airport. According to a report by Metro UK , the women and children were attacked with whips and sticks as they try to pass Taliban checkpoints. The Islamist militant group now controls all of the country’s land borders, so the only way out for people is Kabul airport. Despite reassurances from the Taliban that anyone who wants to leave will be granted ‘safe passage’, Afghans on the ground say they’ve been subjected to brutal violence. Harrowing footage shows women reaching their hands through iron railings towards US troops, with one girl crying: ‘Taliban are coming for me.’ Pictures have emerged of men trying to help wounded women off the ground and carrying bloodied children on their way to the airport. Taliban militants have also been using gunfire and sharp objects to subdue the crowd of thousands of people. US troops have secured the airfield and are aiming to evacuate up to 9,000 passengers before August 31, the deadline set by President Joe Biden for military withdrawal. The first RAF plane carrying Afghan evacuees landed safely in the UK last night after the Government pledged to take 20,000 refugees from the country in the coming years and 5,000 in the short term. https://i.inews.co.uk/content/uploads/2021/08/PRI_195232204-640x360.jpg https://www.tori.ng/userfiles/image/2021/aug/18/whipped1.jpg https://www.tori.ng/userfiles/image/2021/aug/18/whipped2.jpg https://www.tori.ng/news/178167/taliban-fighters-whip-women-and-children-at-kabul.html |
