Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says the incumbent President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has done his best to proffer solutions to the security challenges confronting the nation, adding that Nigerians should not expect more from the Katsina-born retired major general. Obasanjo made this known this week when leaders of socio-cultural organisations met in Abuja at a retreat on inclusive security organised by the Global Peace Foundation in collaboration with Vision Africa. The elder statesmen including Obasanjo; Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, amongst others, lamented the incessant kidnappings, killings in the country, calling for collective actions to halt the worsening insecurity ubiquitous in the country. Speaking at the event, Obasanjo said Nigerians should stop wasting time asking for the 78-year-old President to proffer more security solutions but should focus on the post-Buhari era. The 84-year-old ex-President said, “The truth is this: President Buhari has done his best; that is what he can do, if you expect anything than what he is doing, you are kicking a dead horse and there is no need. “We must not fold our hands…How do we prepare for post-Buhari era? Buhari has done his best. My prayer is that God will spare his life to see his term through but what do we have after Buhari? What should we do to make post-Buhari era better than what we have now? That is our responsibility. It concerns all of us.” https://punchng.com/insecurity-buhari-has-done-his-best-its-a-waste-of-time-to-expect-more-says-obasanjo/ |
https://www.tori.ng/userfiles/image/2021/dec/15/Silva.JPG Two politicians who are at loggerheads have decided to squash their beef by fighting in a boxing ring. Simão Peixoto, the Mayor of Borba, was publicly challenged to the fistfight in September by a former councillor named Erineu da Silva. Silva, who uses the nickname Mirico, was reportedly furious at the mayor's alleged failure to conserve a waterpark near the Madeira river and demanded a showdown with Peixoto. Peixoto accepted the challenge, publishing a video online indicating his readiness to fight Silva. "Show your face!" the mayor told Silva. The Borba mayor later softened his tone after some voters suggested that his conduct was unbecoming of an elected official. Peixoto assured citizens he would only take part in an organised altercation inside a ring. "I'm not a street fighter..." he said on his official Facebook page in a video released early November. "I'm the mayor of the municipality of Borba." "[But] if he really wants to fight... we're ready to fight... I've always been a winner." The fight eventually took place in the early hours of Sunday, Dec. 12, with hundreds of people paying to watch. Peixoto entered the ring at around 2.30am, surrounded by aides and carrying a black towel with the name "Jesus" stamped on it. The mayor appeared in an aggressive mood, stamping on the platform and squaring up to his rival. The fight lasted for 13 minutes. Peixoto's team live-streamed it. In the opening seconds, the mayor, 39, briefly knocked Silva to the ground. But Silva, aka Mirico, 45, fought back. After three shambolic rounds for the challenger, "the mayor of Borba was almost unable to walk because of the number of low kicks he received from his adversary," reported BNC Amazonas. "The mayor took such a beating his jaw dropped," another regional website, Fato Amazônico, reported. However, Peixoto emerged victorious after three rounds in what has been termed "the brawl of Borba". "Strangely, Mirico lost on points," Fato Amazônico reported. Spectators reportedly shouted, disgusted with the result after the Mayor was declared winner. The photojournalist stated this on Wednesday after someone said that he (Bayo) believes in Nigeria because he is benefiting from the current administration. "MAKE I YARN: Funny guy said I believe in NIGERIA because I am chopping, do you even know my story? this is me in 2011 on the street of Lagos telling the Nigerian story and believing in NIGERIA even when I had no kobo and didn’t know where the next meal would be coming from!," he wrote. "I believed in NIGERIA yesterday, I believe in NIGERIA today, I would still believe in NIGERIA tomorrow "LOVE AND PEACE ALWAYS! "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. The accused are standing trial on alleged killing of a boy and torturing of one other for a period of one year by bewitchment. https://www.tori.ng/userfiles/image/2021/nov/03/herbalist%20court.JPG It was some mild drama that took place recently in an Adamawa State court, when a herbalist was invited to cast a spell on three murder suspects in order to obtain confessional statements from them. SaharaReporters reports that a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Song town, in the Song local government area, on Tuesday, invited one Garkuwa Sarkin Mayu, who used charms to extract confessional statements from the suspects. The accused are standing trial on alleged killing of a boy and torturing of one other for a period of one year by bewitchment. The suspects, Mallam Yusuf, Samaila Adamu and Gaji Mallam Yusuf, had pleaded not guilty to bewitching and murdering a child. Frustrated by their plea, the court invited a herbalist, one Sarkin Mayu, who asked the boy who was allegedly bewitched to lie down on the floor and ordered all the defendants to walk across him three times. After they did as ordered, after which they started confessing that they actually bewitched the boy, but that they had removed whatever evil spell cast upon him already. One Abubakar Umaru, had alleged that the accused persons entered his house in the year 2020, and bewitched three of his children Suleimanu, Nafisa and Yusuf, and that sometimes later, Yusuf, died. He explained further that on October 30, 2021, he took one of his surviving children, Suleimanu, who had been sick for a year to Sarki Mayu who applied some herbs on him. The boy thereafter started mentioning the names of the suspects. He informed the court that he was left with no option than to sue them so as to restore the health of his child. He therefore, urged the court to punish the suspects if found guilty, and that the court should order them to pay him the sum of N500,000, the amount he used in treating three of his children. Following the confessional statements after the magician's service, Chief Magistrate Abdulrazaq Adamu, issued a remand order and send the accused to a Yola correctional centre facility till November 9, 2021. Commenting on the matter, a Yola based lawyer, Barr. Sunday Wugira, described the procedure as an abuse of court process. Wugira informed that the law prohibits the use of magical powers or any fetish means to obtain statements. "This is called trial by ordeal.” He furthered, "The position of the law is that anyone who represents himself to be in possession of charm which is intended to be used to compel any person to do an act which such a person has a legal right to refrain from doing, shall be punished as provided under section 186 paragraph (a) and (b) of the penal code law.” https://www.tori.ng/news/185309/drama-as-nigerian-court-engages-herbalist-to-extra.html |

The federal government has gained forfeiture of Diezani’s properties located in Banana Island Foreshore Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos, including 18 flats and six penthouses. Former militant, Asari Dokubo's De Facto Customary Government of Biafra, has stated that the November 6, 2021 Governorship election of Anambra State, must hold as scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. The Head of Information and Communication, Uche Okafor- Mefor, disclosed this in a statement urging the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) not to deny the people of the State from voting . The De facto Biafra Customary Government said the sit-at- home order was criminal while also demanding the federal government to immediately withdraw their security forces deployed to the South East region, pointing out that the use of violent approach against the Igbos would no longer be acceptable. “In the light of the complex developments, hydra-headed security challenges and other sundry issues adversely affecting the indigenous civilian populations lumped up together against their will in Nigeria, the De Facto Customary.' The group said in a statement to Vanguard. 'The government of Biafra hereby declares as follows; the hydra-headed government believes absolutely in the sanctity of human life – the protection of lives in the Biafran territory – and therefore condemns in no uncertain terms the ongoing wanton destruction of lives and properties in Biafraland by both state and non-state actors irrespective of their motives. “That the De Facto Customary Government of Biafra extols the democratic ethos for which Biafrans are known and as such declares support for the people of Biafra to exercise their democratic rights to vote and be voted for in Biafraland in the current and future elections.” On the Anambra governorship election, “That in line with this pronouncement, the De Facto Customary Government of Biafra affirms that elections in Anambra State and elsewhere in Biafraland must hold by the extant laws; that any boycott of the Anambra elections and others elsewhere remains fruitless, counterproductive and would be incapable of invalidating the electoral process because a winner must emerge eventually by the circumstances strongly urged to go out and vote for the preferred candidates of their choices. “That the continued violent campaign for the boycott of elections and other ancillary unethical conducts which are inimical to the advancement of the Biafran cause are subsequently frowned at and as such must be discouraged forthwith. “That the proponents of this self-annihilating strategy must be reminded that in reality, the best way to be in control of political power is by engaging and by going through the democratic process itself or they will otherwise and in effect be aiding and abating the same Fulani-controlled Nigerian state to all the more heavily militarise Biafraland, impose a state of emergency, kill more Biafrans, ultimately rig the elections and fraudulently install their stooges.” 'Just as the group condemned alleged violence against the people of the Southeast region saying: “That the De Facto Customary Government of Biafra further condemns without any equivocation the associated systematic subject on of Biafrans to torture and the targeted assassination of Biafrans on Biafran soil. These are heinous conducts against the laws of the land and prohibited as atrocious crimes by the international community. “That the De Facto Customary Government of Biafra calls on the Nigerian government to withdraw her forces from the Biafran territory forthwith and to arrest and bring to justice all her security personnel implicated in the commission of crimes against humanity, enforced disappearances and extra-judicial killings in Biafraland. “That the De Facto Customary Government of Biafra opposes and deplores in its entirety any torture or killings of Biafrans by Biafrans on Biafran soil. Henceforth, anybody or group of people embarking on this criminality remain the enemy of the people. “That the De Facto Customary Government of Biafra welcomes any civil disobedience measures taken by Biafrans in response or protest to the violations of their fundamental human rights this criminality which advances the ever legitimate Biafran cause. In this regard and with particular reference, any sit-at-home in line with the above- stated objective which is voluntary is welcome.” “However, any violent enforcement of such exercise leading to the forcible restriction of movements, destruction of businesses, above-stated in Biafraland must be challenged. We further reiterate that violent enforcement of any said sit- at-home exercise is criminal conduct, and anybody indulging in those despicable conducts remains a criminal. “Finally, that the De Facto Customary Government of Biafra reaffirms and reasserts that Biafra is our heritage and would do everything humanly possible to defend, and her people. Long live the people of Biafra. Long live the State of Biafra.” https://www.lindaikejisblog.com/2021/10/election-must-hold-in-anambra-asari-dokubos-biafra-customary-government-counters-ipob-order.html |
