obiaguna: Hey op, I just found this thread from last year. What was your final decision? joxiri: @op Whatever you do forget UK U.K. Always seems attractive because the application process is straightforward If you consider Uk as your only option just stay in Nigeria keep saving your money, buy land and develop a property, or go to Lagos business school How you managed to save 4m is quite impressive you seem like a resourceful person and u maybe be able to cope well in the us or Canada The problem with the U.K. Is the duration of the course creeps up on you, you are concentrating on your course before you know it visa don expire, no time to actually find a job Keep searching for scholarships and finally don't quit your job to go and do masters unless you don't intend to come back, or if your employer keeps your job for you mickey45: S what did you later decide? Oh thanks guys and you @joxiri for your view. This is almost a year after that post. At that time I'd applied for a scholarship (NDDC) and was waiting for the outcome. Well it turned out I didn't meet the final list. So my decision was to defer the admission I'd previously accepted and obtained a CAS number for, to this year, hoping to just save up the balance required. This, in addition to what other scholarship offer I may get of course. So I did manage to save up, but guess what? The FX thing became the new impediment. At the time I wrote that, my current savings with just maybe a little addition might have been enough. However with new FX rates, even with additional money it will be impossible to meet up. Especially since I no be Otedola pikin. There has been an over 70% increase in the Naira equivalent of the tuition fees. I'm not convinced it's worth it for a UK MSc considering the conditions of study these days. A US STEM course maybe but certainly not a UK MSc. Still, tuition fees for a good US college with the current FX rates will be prohibitive. I can develop a heart attack just thinking about it. So I'm working on other options for now (local entrepreneurship). Or what do you think? By the way I just realized how much of a coward I am to remain stuck in a job that offers little fulfillment. It's just for the very very short term anyway, I know there are brighter days ahead. Your thoughts are still much welcome. |

rocasmilatos: i think that is what is needed in Nse, we need to expose to them why tech analysis of stocks is important in this century. i can partner with you in this one though am not a geek in software ish but i know tech analysis. Ok thats cool. It will certainly be nice working together on such a project. We will see how it goes, I guess one needs to do a little more research to understand whats really happening. Salute! |

rocasmilatos: It is well even in the well to the guy that was robbed. Btw i have been looking for a platform like that for tech analysis bt i seems its limited to more organised trading markets like Nyse, London high, futures etc. Black boxes and gray boxes is hard bt not impossible to sought for in Nse. In fact i am with you in the search. Thank you jo. If it's foreign markets you'll have enough options, but come to our own here, nothing. I may have to go back into software development as this is a good business opportunity. |

fxuser: try http://markets.ft.com (offers more tech than bloomberg )
- just register - create your watchlist - use the interactive chart (the delay to real time is 5-10 mins)
(if you want something more, the nyou need bloomberg terminal access to be ahead of the news) Thanks, I tried to get access to the Bloomberg terminal a few years back, their sales rep got in contact but their billing was not for small peeps like me AT ALL so I pick race. let me try FT as a registered user, though i doubt it will provide what I need. $$$ |

Hello People in the house, To the guy who was robbed, I'm sorry to hear that. May you not fall victim ever again. Please I'm shopping for a good tech analysis software/platform/app/tool/website etc. Any suggestions Something that plots out trends in a line graph and allows calcucation of various ratios? Something reasonably elaborate. The research tool that comes with (my broker) Investment-One's Easytrade platform is grossly inadequate and Excel isn't cutting it for me right now ('cos i don't like how it plots graphs like an after thought). Please any help will be appreciated. Thank you. Edit: I understand such a platform may be hooked to real time market data and so may require subscription OR not. $$$ |

megainvest: That book is too "American" to some extent. I had to skip a lot of pages that didn't catch my interest. Anyway, its a nice book to read. Lots of great insight. Yeah you're quite right. It's partly why I've been dragging my feet on completing it 'cos I don't like skipping pages. It makes me feel I'm missing something vital. |

Coolcash1: During times like this one need to be careful and mindful of the news one reads... I saw the report and it was written to achieve mischief and create unnecessary panic in the financial system as it seems far from the truth. The point is, many prophet of doom and slay like dragon King, PETERICHY et al are out there to promote fear, panic just to bring down the economy.
Back to the subject matter, why was FBNH selected out of all the banks that gave loans to oil and gas industry..Is Zenith, Access even FCMB not also carrying NPLs as a result of the lull in the industry in their books?
I understand a lot of investors are really rooting for the stock to crash so that entry can be cheaper..However, sorry to disappoint them because it ain't gonna happen ( talking like American here).. If anyone wants to join the bus, the time is now coz it might be too late My point exactly, though I'll still be wary |

That Ren Cap analysis on first bank carried by nairametrics is beginning to seem more like a ploy by some gangsters to push the stock price down.
About NPL denominated in dollars
Or maybe I'm just consoling myself.

Godisfaithful: Sir, FBNH and FCMB will gain more in terms of this oil and gas industries liberation (downstream sector) because they are most one negatively affected by all this impairments charges (bad loans to oil and gas). I will fully go for FBNH
Just personal opinion.
Tips: Have u seen the shark price target on FBNH (wait a bit...lol) At the time I posted that question, my order of ranking for all three was:- FBNH UBA FCMB However I just couldn't understand why FBNH was doing only 3% or 4% at the time when FCMB was on full bid at 10%. So that stopped me from going for either. It's only this evening that I checked stats of the days trading and saw that of the 567,590,938 shares traded today on the NSE, 107,172,820 were of First bank. That's almost 20%! Anyway, I get now. A lot of people are scared because this FBNH dealt with plenty of us (trapped me down for like 18 months), either way if the market bull continues I know say this stock go fly |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by ExLaidback: 12:44pm On May 13, 2016 |
kentoto: Hello , I think UBA is still the best option.
1. It still upside potential 2. Its a liquid stock so offers will definatly come
For transcorp , people to be careful, its the liquity that will born people's fingers
K Thanks. I think so too |

rebekah2011: FCMB is full bid ooooo. Closed yesterday at 1.18 and opened today at 1.23 and now at 1.29. I dont know why PZ and Unilever should be selling higher than UACN. I will still prefer to go with UBA. NuttyChoky: I haven't done an analysis for UBA. But between FBNH and FCMB at today's prices I would go for FCMB reason being more upside and margin of safety OK thanks a lot guys. I guess the final decision still rests with me. But @nuttychoky you say more up side for FCMB than FBNH? The FCMB sef is on full bid, only FBNH has a means of entry for now. |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by ExLaidback: 12:12pm On May 13, 2016 |
Guys based on prevailing economic conditions and what we are seeing presently in the market, I'm a little confused here. Which would you recommend for entry presently between FBNH, FCMB and UBA. I would have gone with FBNH without hesitation but I'm not sure why FCMB is not full bid and it isn't. Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

Hello House!
I noticed some posts earlier jubilating about the steady rise of crude price. Well I certainly don't mean to transform into sea creatures that constantly harp on bad news but we all know the danger posed by the crude price crossing the $50 mark. So...
On other matters, what was FBNH corporate action as per dividend? I've been hearing 15K but haven't seen where it was stated officially. |

visita: You're right about this. It's the only building I've entered that has central AC. There are several high rise and single floor buildings in Nigeria that use Central cooling. Several. Transcorp Hilton is fully on Central and Nicon Luxury Hotel too, both in Abuja. By the way why is someone saying that the cooling can't be regulated? Please let the experts in this field contribute so we can learn rather than saying what you aren't sure of. Meanwhile the picture in the OP looks like Zenith head office from the rear? |

nastydamus: Good morning house. Please I've got a little issue with Morgan Capital: needed a hundred thousand naira to attend to some engagements so I sent them an email to withdraw the said amount from my MC account. They sent an email later saying the transfer had been done and my MC account was debited immediately but it's been a week now and I've not seen the money (had to get from a friend), sent them four mails about the 'transfer' that didn't happen but nobody is replying; all their lines are unreachable as well. This is not exactly what a customer wants to go through when hard-earned money is involved. You know it's funny but I value good service rather than low charges any day any time. So I was supposed to move my portfolio to them but decided to watch a little more for complaints or compliments. So far I'm not impressed. |

lancee: NOTE !!
Zenith, in the face of harsh and dull economic activities, held on to its previous year’s performances as it released a marginal decline in its Q1 EPS from 88kobo in 2015 March 31 to 84 kobo in 2016 March 31. PLEASE note that the 84kobo EPS, reported in the 2016 Q1 is superior to the 88 kobo declared as the 2015 Q1 EPS in the sense that the price of the stock has declined from N23 on April 17, 2015 to N10.90 onn April 18, 2016 -
culled from fandi.com This is quite correct, although P/E ratio is a more appropriate term. |

DeRuggedProf: Dangote wants to expand his companies, he just goes ahead. Dangcem, Dangsugar, NASCON etc, all have had major expansions without shareholders facing the ceiling at night. GTB/Zenith have not been having public offerings each year, yet, they give good dividends.
FCMB will be honest to tell you long in advance that you should be cautious on their stock, yet still give you 10k. AFRIPRUD will not make noise, yet overwhelm you with dividend and on time, showing you that the profit made was real and it has it in hand. Same with UCAP.
NOW, A BANK will be in the market each year/declare HUGE PROFITS, cannot give out much in dividend/not on time too. Claim to be a tier 1 BANK. What did you do with retained earnings/ last funds raised? do you grow you business by continuously asking shareholders to return their dividend and much more?
I am watching ...... Are you talking about FBNH? Well me sef just dey look them, their management need advanced flogging. Nonsense and 'ingredience' |

NuttyChoky: There is no way a responsible SEC should not probe this result!!!
How did they go from PAT of N2billion as at Q3 to N713m in just three months
Without any major event happening and without any warning to shareholders Kai Probe ke? I jumped into the marker 4 weeks ago when money I was expecting came and hurriedly bought NEM & Mansard. THEN I went and did my DD on insurance stocks after a while and seeing how some more profitable companies were performing after declaring dividend. I realized buying them was a mistake. I promptly sold all insurance stocks ASAP. Had to take a loss on Mansard before the nonsense of a result and dividend the gave was released. Sold NEM for roughly the same amount less commission. Anyway, you'll find that insurance companies usually have their highest figures in the 3rd Qtr. There's always a drastic reduction in the 4th Qtr results. Some always pay dividend but it isn't fantastic. |
