Former Actor and Stand-up Comedian Teju Babyface has said he has no plans to return to stand-up comedy which he left three years ago. In an interview with Punch, Teju said he quit because he was constantly struggling. Gbadewonuola Olateju Oyelakin, known professionally as Teju Babyface, is a Nigerian political satirist, inspirational speaker, talk show host, Master of Ceremonies, television producer. Excerpts of interview below.... He said, “It was always a struggle to be a comedian. You may not have seen the struggle but every time I got on stage, it was a constant struggle. I had to prove myself to the audience constantly at every performance. It was a constant struggle and there were times I had been called on stage and the applause at the best of time would be polite, at the worst of times it would be non-existent. If you think about it, I really did not look like a comedian. “It was as if the audience did not believe I could make them laugh; so I always had to prove myself. There was a time that it did not matter because I really enjoyed doing it. But after a certain time, your inner man would call out to you and things like discontent would start to set in.” He added that the realization that he would never be number one stand-up comedian in the country also added to his decision to throw in the towel. “It occurred to me that I was never going to be the number one stand-up comedian. I would never forget that day. It occurred to me several times in my stand-up comedy career but there was a certain day I had a lucid moment after a particular performance. As I got off the stage, it occurred to me that I was not called to be a career stand-up comedian. It was just a stage through which I had to pass. I am not saying I am not a comedian because I will always be one but I am no longer a stand-up comedian. I like to use the example of Steve Harvey in the US. He did his last stand-up comedy show in Las Vegas in 2012 but he hosts the Steve Harvey show on television and radio, he has a children’s show and he is also an author. He is a business magnate but he would always be a comedian. You cannot watch him and not laugh and it is the same thing with me. Either it is the Teju Babyface show or you are reading my book or listening to me speak; you will always laugh but I would not stand on stage like I used to do to tell jokes,” the comedian said. According to him, his new found love for writing and speaking has finally helped him find his place. “I did not set out to write a book but I believed some years ago that I was meant to speak to people, to become a motivational speaker. I found out that I was writing a lot of things that I intended to speak about but the challenge was that nobody was calling me to speak. It was a challenge to find somewhere to speak and the places I wrote to always felt that I am a comedian and wondered what I know about public speaking. After putting all the materials in my computer for a while, my friend suggested that I should write a book. I laughed at him at first but since he said I would become an authority if I write a book, after thinking about it for a while, it made sense to me. When I was launching the book, I found peace in my heart. Someone asked me if I had made the money I intended to make and I told them that they do not have an idea. I did not run into debt trying to do it but it is not about money anymore. There is a joy I feel being an author and I feel like a man who had finally found himself. A few people who saw me during the book launch said it in different ways that I have finally got into my place through writing and speaking,” Babyface said. Igbos Are Marginalized & They Can't Stop Where Nigeria Has Kept Them - Ohakim & Peter Obi Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has reiterated the need for Igbos to continue their fight for freedom. On Saturday 27th May, 2017, he advised Igbos to invest in themselves. While calling for restructuring of the country, he stressed that they must not remain where Nigeria kept them. Mr. Obi made the remark while speaking at the World Igbo Congress, WIC, summit in Enugu State. The former governor also urged Igbo’s to identify with their leaders in the push for restructuring. In his words: “I believe in the restructure of Nigeria but for us as Ndigbo, emphasis should be on investing in our future more that political demands. “We should invest in education; knowledge, because the future of the world is knowledge- driven economy. “Are we going to die talking about yesterday? We should show love and care for ourselves. We should encourage local investments. “Position and power is not all that matters. Ndigbo must not stop where Nigeria dropped us.” In the same vein, the former Imo State Governor, Ikedi Ohakim, has called for a change of the current political system in the country which concentrates power at the centre, saying Igbos are largely marginalised under the arrangement. According to Daily Post, Ohakim made the call at the inaugural Chinua Achebe International Conference held at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, on Saturday. He spoke on the topic, “The Igbo and the leadership question: The Achebe example.” The former governor also noted that Igbo people were the major victims of the economic recession. In Ohakim's words: “The Federal Government created a national intervention project in 2006 under former President Olusegun Obasanjo to restore peace and promote a sense of belonging in the country. ”This gave rise to the N400bn East – West Road project, the N600bn Kano/ Maiduguri Road project, the N200bn Lokoja/Abaji/ Abuja Road project and the N150bn Ibadan /Ogbomosho /Oshogbo Road. “But curiously, the South-East was left out. When we demanded an explanation, we were promised the second Niger Bridge but alas, this project is being pushed to a public-private partnership arrangement with a tolling scheme to recoup the cost of the project. “Is this a fair deal for Ndigbo? We must continue to ask for our own share of the 2006 National Intervention Fund.” Ohakim who was the former governor of Imo State and Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State has been termed in many years as defiant governors and many called them "the governors without godfathers" because of the way they carried out their duties. more @ http://www.exlinklodge.com/2017/05/igbos-are-marginalized-they-cant-stop.html cc lalasticlala mynd44

Arsenal has disappointed so many people today who put their money on Chelsea hoping they will humiliate Arsenal to clinch the FA Cup. Gunners entered todays game with so much injuries on their list and therefore were the underdogs. But Arsenal always rises up when duty calls and the zeal and passion they used today is example of a club that is still in the game. Apart from Arsenal disappointing many people today, their manager, Arsene Wenger made his own statement today by beating Chelsea to send a message to people and mostly Arsenal fans undermining his capabilities as a coach. Wenger stated during the pre-match analysis that for Arsenal fans to be talking bad about him is a disgraceful attitude. All is well that ends well. Arsenal succeeded in beating the English Premier League Champions, Chelsea today to clinch the FA cup. Though their was a little bit of controversy on their first goal as Alexis Sanchez appeared to have handle the ball during the built up and was even ruled "no-goal" by the linesman but the referee overruled the linesman. Chelsea later equalized in the 79th minutes but the it took lastd only only 3 minutes before Gunners took back the lead with Ramsey's header. The PFA winner Kante, switched off and let Ramsey run-in unchallenged and took the lead back again for Wenger's men. It was a deserved winner for Arsenal and it has indeed lifted their spirit and the prepare for a season without playing in the Champions League after finishing 5th in the league table with 57 points. Some of the football writers has this to say. According to Ben Dettmar (@OlympicsProf) That was a great final. Can't be too upset still a really good year for Chelsea. Arsenal deserved it on the day More pictures below.... more @ http://www.exlinklodge.com/2017/05/football-arsenal-beat-chelsea-2-1-to.html cc lalasticlala mynd44 missyb3 dominique

What is happening in Nigeria? What kind of impunity is this? Emeka Ephraim Ugwuonye, Lawyer to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu has been temporarily banned from legal practice in Nigeria. Ugwuonye, who was a former United States-based lawyer, recently joined the legal team of Nnamdi Kanu. It was learnt that Ugwuonye was barred in Nigeria by Nigeria’s Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee, LPDC, of the Body of Benchers, a unit which punishes misconduct among lawyers.
