PoliticsFight Erupts At Nigerian Embassy In Washington; US Police Called To Restore Orde by exlinkleads(op): 1:41pm On May 24, 2017
Embassy of Nigeria in Washington D.C. United States last Monday after two officials of the embassy began fighting.

The officials, according to Per Second News, are Mr. Robert Mumford Ditto, a Filipino and one Saka Ologele from Nigeria. Apparently left fuming after an argument, Ditto, angrily threw a chair at Ologele.

Some officials of the embassy tried to engage with the men but the situation then escalated into a physical fight, in the full glare of dozens of guests and visa applicants.
Ditto called in agents from the Washington Capitol Secret Service Police to deal with the commotion, there after several people became angry at his utterances.

No fewer than five police officers arrived and made their way into the embassy to restore order and calm panicky guests and visa applicants.
It took the timely intervention of acting Ambassador, Mr. Hakeem Balogun, to prevent the secret service agents from arresting the officials.

The acting ambassador has suspended the duo indefinitely, it was learnt yesterday morning.
Police confirmed the altercation inside the embassy but did not report any arrest.
Commenting on the incident, a band of Nigerian workers complained about the utterances of Filipino citizens working at the embassy.

Workers alleged that they have been arbitrary and overboard.
Investigations also revealed that in the Defence Attache section of the embassy, Nigerian diplomats have in most times preferred Filipinos to assist in the work there.
From local office assistants to drivers, the department in charge of intelligence uses foreigners, especially the Filipinos, workers alleged.

It was also gathered that the Deputy Defence Attache has a Filipino secretary in this days where the line between diplomat, embassy workers and spy is sometimes blurred.
“You will never see a foreigner at Chinese, Indian, Russian, even at the Ghana embassy at strategic positions,” said a visa applicant.

Approaching foreign nationals and asking them to work for your government is generally agreed to lie in the realm of espionage.
Some in Washington have questioned the employment of Filipinos working at sensitive positions inside the embassy.
Reports in the past revealed that some foreign workers in some embassies have been caught surreptitiously seeking to discover passwords, details of private and official email, tracking movements and mobile phone accounts of foreign officials.

This is an everyday activity that lies deep within the field of espionage, said a diplomat.
“Drivers deployed to diplomats drive with their ears cocked for interesting intelligence.
“There is a degree of overlap. Diplomats, spies and journalists are all basically nosy people. They all want to find out things that are not generally known,” said a Nigerian diplomat asked about the Filipinos at the embassy of Nigeria.

TravelEU Bars Nigerian Airline From Its Airspace Due To Safety Oversight In Nigeria by exlinkleads(op): 5:18pm On May 18, 2017
Breaking News: EU Bars Nigerian Airline From Its Airspace Due To Safety

The European Commission has barred Nigerian airline, Med-View, from operating within its airspace over safety reasons. The airline was one of those under the EU Air Safety List Annex A, which includes all airlines banned from operating in Europe.

A total of 181 airlines were barred from flying into Europe, with 174 airlines barred due to safety oversight by aviation authorities in their home countries.

The EU Air Safety List is a list of non-European airlines that do not meet international safety standards, and are therefore subject to an operating ban or operational restrictions within the European Union.

In the updated version, all air carriers from Benin Republic and Mozambique were removed from the list, while four individual airlines, one each from Nigeria, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Ukraine, and Zimbabwe, were added.

Although Med-View is yet to make an official statement on the development, sources said they are working to resolve the issue and that the United Kingdom authorities would soon visit Nigeria to carry out safety audit on the airline.

PoliticsProtest As DSS Failed To Provide Ifeanyi Ubah In Court by exlinkleads(op): 4:06pm On May 18, 2017
It seems DSS is now above the court of law in this country. This is the second time a competent court of law has ordered DSS to provide Mr. Ubah and they failed to do so. According to Authority News, Department of State Services on Thursday, failed to produce the Chairman, Capital Oil and Gas, Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, before Justice Muhammed Idris of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos.

This is in flagrant disregard of the May 12, 2017, court order given to the DSS by Justice Idris, to produce Ubah in court today. However, this came as no fewer than 500 supporters from across different ethnic groups stormed the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, today, to rally around and show support for the oil mogul.

This is even as anger and moral indignation has continued to swell further over the continued detention of the Nnewi-born Billionaire Businessman, by the DSS

Leading the pack of those who have condemned the DSS continued detention of Ubah are Pan-Igbo group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo; Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC); the National Association of South East Nigeria Students (NASENS), HURIWA, Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State and affected workers of Capital Oil and Gas.

Speaking to journalists, a Staff of Capital Oil, Mr. Tony Ogundipe expressed his frustration at the impasse. “We, Capital Oil workers are disappointed with the nonchalant attitude of the Federal Government in the resolution of this matter that has left over 2,000 of us temporarily jobless and redundant. The failure of the FG to call the conspirators to order is a blatant slap on the face of our democracy and sheer insensitivity to the plight of Nigerians”, he lamented.

Another staff of Capital Oil and Gas called on the FG to intervene in a bid to avert the impending starvation of their families. “The injustice meted on Dr Ifeanyi Ubah is negatively affecting over 2,000 workers of Capital Oil. The FG should be mindful of the implications on our families who are gradually been forced to starve”, he concluded.

With this latest failure to produce Ubah in court today, Justice Idris adjourned the matter for ruling on Thursday, May 25, 2017.

HealthHow N1.08bn HIV Drugs Expired In Storage – Health Minister, Prof. Adewol by exlinkleads(op): 9:31am On May 17, 2017
The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, has stated that $3.2m (N1.08bn) worth of HIV drugs expired in storage. Adewole made this disclosure while delivering a speech at the ‘Dissemination Meeting of 2016 National Health Facility Survey’ in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to Daily Post, Adewole said the competence and knowledge of healthcare workers, availability of drugs and basic equipment, and management and supervision of healthcare facilities were essential to the improvement of the health sector.

In his words:

“Availability of commodities is also important. We have mentioned inadequate funding which is a major factor but it is not the only reason for the out of stock of commodities. Better management is also important.

“We are living witnesses to the challenges we face with the HIV programme where drugs worth about $3.2m expired. So, it is not a question of it (drugs) not being available. Sometimes the drugs are there but we don’t give it to them (patients) and then they expire.” The minister said the incident would not repeat itself as mechanisms had been put in place to forestall such.

He added, “The issue is that the drugs expired because of some challenges in the system and we are trying to putting that behind us. We are now putting together a network of logistics supply system. We have two excellent facilities in Abuja and Lagos which we call ‘Warehouse in a Box’.

“The one in Abuja is called Premium Medical Supplies Store and everything there is computerised and with that kind of system, there will be no more expired drugs because we will be able to monitor them electronically. It will be a system of first in, first out and we will also be monitoring expiry dates.

“What we are also trying to avoid in the country is a situation where we take drugs that are about to expire. When you pick drugs that have short shelf lives like six months, they can expire easily.” There was a sense of urgency for governments at all levels, particularly the state governments to have the political will to place high premium on budget financing for health because, over time, budget for health was grossly inadequate.

He said, “Health is an investment issue, health is security and, above all, health is a human right issue, the right to health should not deny anyone.”

RomanceRomance: 33yrs Old Married Woman Caught Giving "Mouth Action" To A 15 Year Old Boy by exlinkleads(op): 3:51pm On May 15, 2017
The feeling of sex is something that can't be controlled sometimes, especially if one is a type that lets loose when it comes. A drama teacher had an unscripted run in with the law while allegedly performing a sex act on a minor in her car during the middle of the night.

Pamela Stigger, 33, claimed she was “only trying to mentor him” but the 15-year-old told police she had told him to go to the back seat where they took off their trousers and underwear and had sex. The aspiring actress then reportedly got dressed and was performing MouthAction on him when he told her a sheriff’s deputy was walking towards the car.

The female officer swooped in Tamarac, Florida, after a call about a suspicious looking vehicle obstructing traffic with no one in the front seats at approximately 2am. She said she saw Stigger in the back with the boy who was naked from the waist down.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Gina Carter said:

“When she was questioned about what they were doing and if they had, in fact, engaged in sexual acts, she denied being engaged in these sexual acts… despite the fact that the young man was undressed.”

Stigger faces two charges of sexually assaulting the student who was in her drama class at Forest Glen Middle School in Coral Springs during the academic year 2015-16. She is also accused of lewd and lascivious activity on a minor. The lad told investigators Stigger was driving him home when she pulled over and started kissing him in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Stigger, who, according to investigators, has a “custodial relationship” over the teen, is said to have denied having sexual contact with him. She initially accused him of “attempting to seduce her” before changing her story, said Carter.

The sheriff’s spokeswoman added:

“She did say that she was in the process of mentoring this past student of hers, even though it was two o’clock in the morning, and they were in the back seat of a car.”

On Friday a court banned Stigger from having any contact with the boy and she must wear an ankle monitor while out on bail.

PoliticsNorthern Elders Blast Tinubu: Kano's 1.8m Votes Is Greater Than Entire Southwest by exlinkleads(op): 2:52pm On May 15, 2017
Northern Elders Blast Tinubu - Kano's 1.8m Votes Is Greater Than Entire SW Put Together

Politics is getting hotter and interesting day after day in Nigeria. Their has always been the notion that APC chieftain, Bola Ahmed Tinubu single handedly brought President Buhari to power. This notion has been spread widely by Nigerians, especially the South-West, but the Northern Elders has moved to debunk it as the call out APC chieftain, Tinubu.

The Chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, Ibrahim Coomassie, has insisted that the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, was never responsible for the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari, in the 2015 polls. While speaking, Coomassie said the claim attributed to Tinubu, is grossly inaccurate, and does not add up.

The ACF Chairman disclosed that soon the Pan Northern group, will issue a formal statement on the issue making round, that Tinubu made Buhari President, in 2015. Also speaking, Maitama Yusuf, former Internal Affairs Minister in the Second Republic, pointed out that the votes of Kano State alone, were more than what the entire South-West gave Buhari.

In his own reaction, the North West Zonal Vice Chairman of the APC, Inuwa AbdulKadir, said that the issue is not the number of votes, but the spread. He said that an analysis of the result shows that all sections of Nigeria contributed in giving victory to APC, in the last election.

Another APC Chieftain, Senator Joseph Waku, in an interview also said that all Nigerians voted for Buhari, contrary to the claim that Tinubu brought him to power.

“Nigerians needed a change, and the driver of that change is Buhari. Let no Nigerian deceive you. Take it or leave it, Buhari won the election. Full stop!”, he said. “Tinubu must have contributed more than the rest of us, but you cannot take away the fact that Buhari won the election; and to say Tinubu brought Buhari to power, is an over-exaggeration.

“A lot of Nigerians and other party leaders contributed a lot. Kano State alone, contributed about 1.8 million to Buhari’s total score, and so did many States in the North. Kano’s votes were more than the votes of the entire South-West”, Waku said.

HealthLady Sues Glaxosmithkline For N400M After Losing 90% Of Her Skin Due To Drugs by exlinkleads(op): 1:43pm On May 15, 2017
Lady Sues GlaxoSmithKline For N400M After Losing 90% Of Her Skin Due To Their Drug

This is scary and should sound as a warning to those who can't wait to try a drug in the market without good research on its effects. She had used a drug, Lamotrigine, to treat a bipolar disorder in 2013. The drug reportedly began to show adverse effects few weeks after.

Shaw’s skin, hair and lip skin started falling off. Medics were initially not sure what was wrong with her, fearing she had an infectious disease. A dermatologist later diagnosed Shaw, who was a health student at the time, with Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS) – a rare disorder that begins with flu-like symptoms.

‘They put me into a medically-induced coma, because they knew it was going to be really painful,’ she said on her blog which she started after her ordeal.

When Shaw woke up from coma five weeks later, she was shocked to find she could not see and was breathing via a tracheotomy. She had lost all of her hair and fingernails had all fallen off. She was reportedly later told she had also lost about 90 per cent of her skin. Shaw was forced to put her graduate studies on hold and wear sunglasses indoors, because any bright light is painful to her.

The lawsuit is claiming Shaw’s medical bills amount to more than $3.45m thus far, with far more expected as her treatment continues. She has now started to grow her hair back and her blogging is helping her to make sense of her ordeal.

CrimeLagos Hairdresser Commits Suicide By Drinking Insecticide Over Debt Of N150,000 by exlinkleads(op): 1:16pm On May 15, 2017
A Hairdresser Commits Suicide By Drinking Insecticide "Sniper" Over Debt Of N150,000

A Stylist in the Somolu, Lagos State, identified as Yetunde Oladipupo, also known as Iyabo, has committed suicide. Oladipupo died when she took an insecticide called sniper shortly after seeing off some friends who had visited her.

Although the cause of her friend’s visit could not be ascertained, it was gathered that the mother of four went to a shop afterwards and bought the insecticide. She was alleged to have taken it and was later rushed to the General Hospital, Gbagada, where she was confirmed dead by doctors. It was gathered that she had taken a loan of about N150,000 from a microfinance bank and the creditor had been pestering her to pay.

A resident, who pleaded anonymity said:

The victim was always depressed because she had no means of repaying the debt. He said, “Iyabo has four children and her husband is based in Abuja. He comes home once in a while. She was a hairdresser and had a small shop where she sold some things.

“She borrowed N150,000 from a microfinance bank. When the pressure became too much for her and she could not pay, she became desperate, drank the insecticide and died.”

Also another resident said two friends had visited her a few minutes before the incident, adding that it was after the visit that she decided to take her life. She said:

“Around 7pm, two friends visited her and she saw them off. As she was returning, she went to a shop opposite her house where they sell provisions. “After picking the insecticide, she asked the shopkeeper for a nylon wrapper, but the shopkeeper declined her request and said she should return the insecticide. She kept it somewhere around her dress and left.

“As she was ascending the stairs to the first floor where she lived, she drank the insecticide. Within seconds, she started feeling uncomfortable and called her five-year-old child to go and get help. She was rolling on the floor and groaning with pain.

“Everybody was alarmed upon seeing the empty container of the insecticide. She was taken to a private hospital on the street, but she was rejected. She was then rushed to the General Hospital, Gbagada, where about five doctors struggled to save her life. She, however, died.”

According to Today.ng, a doctor at the General Hospital confirmed that Iyabo was brought to the hospital around 7pm, adding that she died in the early hours of Saturday.

He said, “The woman was brought to the hospital around 7pm on Friday and her people said she collected a loan which she could not repay. We don’t know the details. Doctors tried to save her life, but she could not make it.”

Car TalkSee FRSC Explanation On Delay In Issuance Of Driver’s Licence by exlinkleads(op): 9:09pm On May 12, 2017
The Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC in Kaduna State says driver’s licence ought to be ready within 60 days of submission of application. The Sector Commander in the state, Mr Frances Udoma, however, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that factors like double application, misinformation and renewal while existing one had not expired may cause a delay.

Udoma made the clarification in Kaduna while reacting to complaints from members of the public on the difficulties and delays in obtaining drivers licence. He said:

“Once a driver’s information is captured, it is uploaded in FRSC data base at the headquarters in Abuja where a computer will process them. “Now what happens is, if the computer detects multiple applications by an individual, it will automatically turn the application down.

“Another problem is misinformation. When for example you have facial mark and did not indicate while filling the form, if the computer detects it, it will turn your application down. “Also, if your licence has not expired and you are captured again, either because you lost it or otherwise, the computer would detect it as double application and would turn it down.

“When any of these happens, the computer would not give feedback, because your data is not in the data base. “The only feedback you get is when your licence is ready, the computer would notify you via text message to go and pick up your licence,” he said.

The sector commander advised all drivers that applied for licence and were captured for more than two months, but did not receive text messages, to visit any nearest licence centre for collection. He said there were more than 3,671 unclaimed driver’s licence in Kaduna centre alone.

“This could be either because the owner’s number is not reachable or some changed their phone numbers while others could be dead,” he added.

On fake driver’s licence, Udoma said drivers could check the status of their licence through text message by sending NDL space STATUS space licence number to 33811. Some of the drivers had told NAN that they passed through a lot of difficulties in getting a driver’s licence. One of them, Sa’adatu Musa , said it took her more than four months, from registering with a driving school to obtaining driving certificate and other processes, before she was captured.

Musa, however, said that she had yet to receive her driver’s licence, adding that the temporary one issued to her in November 2016 had since expired. Another driver, Mr Luka William, said after going through the processes of obtaining the driving certificate, he had yet to get clearance from KASTELEA.

“Without clearance from KASTELEA, I will not be captured for the licence,” William said.

Editor's Note:

I don't think I believe any of this excuses cuz I applied for a license and got it more than a year to the date I applied. And guess what, the license will even expire in less than 2 years to the day I collected it. This is indeed pathetic.

So after 2 years, I will start a process if renewal again. And FYI, renewal is even worst that picking up a new one cuz I met one guy when I went to collect my own license at Sura - Obalende, Lagos and he told me he is doing renewal and is more than a year and half and he hasn't collected it. I weep for my dear country.
