ChinenyeN: Very true. I know that I myself, for instance, do not hesitate to enter this thread, each time I see that Ezeagu has updated it with new posts.https://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m8f6wol5R11qbh0eio1_250.gif Umuahia area, Abia State. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XBuA6C_CGo The house in some shots of this video (including the thumbnail) seems to be traditional. |
You can see Uli designs on everything. The "isioja" symbol seems to be the most common as I think can be seen on the door. https://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m5ezi9aJY71qjh37to1_500.jpg http://www.nmafa.si.edu/exhibits/group.htm |

https://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m8cmbl9R3Q1qjh37to1_500.jpg "Religion plays an important role at Afikpo in almost every sphere of life. Everywhere there are shrines to humanlike and nonhuman supernatural forces. Often they are placed at the base of a tree, in a group of natural rocks or specifically constructed rock platforms, or in a shrine house, or are found at farms, along paths, in the commons of villages, in the compounds, sometimes even inside dwelling places. The shrines symbolize the diversity of beliefs, rituals, and history in the village group. Njoku, the yam shrine, which virtually every adult male owns and which is for the fertility of the yam crop and for welfare, is located in the compound, usually near its entrance, and is in the form of a pot. Those of a major patrilineage are often grouped in one shrine, the pots nearest each other representing men of a single agnatic line. A man establishes his when a diviner advises him that the Njoku spirit is calling him, as a result of poor crops or illness. Tribe is defined by groups linked together by blood, like an extended family. Many groups in Africa are not tribes, but are composed of tribes, and sometimes kingdoms, empires and states. |

Performed by the eldest son, Oteleri, many years after his father’s death, when he became ill, and a diviner indicated his father’s spirit was angry at the neglect. Often is performed after a few years. Women dancing, Amachara Village square. [Ottenberg field research notes, O Series, December 1951-March 1953]. |

geeez: Oga you keep mentioning HDI. I've posted the GDP figures for Nigerian states which is a critical ingredient in the measure of HDI. The other parameters are Education and Life Expectancy. You may wanna read up before your next postYeah GDP, cool, go and compare the GDP calculations of Nigeria and Ireland, or India and Norway, even the US and the Netherlands, or Nigeria and Barbados, a small island the size of a south eastern state of Nigeria, or Nigeria to Luxembourg and Liechtenstein, the size of some Nigerian towns, or Monaco, the size of a village and then come and report your theory proven by the High HDI by GDP. In the mean time I'll leave you with these: http://www.measuredhs.com/pubs/pdf/GF15/GF15.pdf https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:wgJfRD3S_0QJ:www.oerafrica.org/ResourceDownload.aspx?assetid%3D969%26userid%3D-1+poverty+rate+nigeria+south+east+south+west+north+west&hl=en&gl=uk&pid=bl&srcid=ADGEESgMqrnvyzigPMw7ADJUAAX9UBCi9Mis6NmqhlNFCX96QXgaQ9GxeFjj4EtXhx3yDI0puOMh7Py8Duz1yy6inJvQuMchj1Yq4uyfnVXtPtrKlRx2yhXSMD4XxUcclS7WUg89Rf3Z&sig=AHIEtbRRm-XXz0Vf9-3sPoBMW2yrZfFsnQ&pli=1 |

saxywale: You mean a subway?Just a tunnel used as a walkway under the motorway. They're common in developed countries, although they sometimes attract crime and homeless people. https://s0.geograph.org.uk/geophotos/01/17/93/1179393_c969025f.jpg |
Why do many people of African descent spend so much time and effort in discovering "black" relics outside of Africa or in places where there are no current black populations? Wouldn't all this time be better spent developing the research of known 'black' cultures which are suffering from being the least researched? |
shadrach77: this is really silly! is the poster not as guilty as the other pedestrians or how was he able to get the pictures? The pictures are from Sahara reporters. . . |
The issue with these discussions is that people bring up billionaires and millionaires to demonstrate the wealth of their region. The billionaires in Hausa and Yoruba land are much more than those in Igbo land and they control many large and important companies, but (and this a big but) there are so much more millionaires in Igbo land and there's much less poverty, whether rural or urban, and there is a wider and more stable 'middle class' which is why the HDI is high. I put this down to the Igbo egalitarian and 'rugged individualist' society where there has never been a ruling class as was and is seen in the other regions, on the other hand, the other regions had a more organised governing than the Igbo. |
An underpass would be good, but only god knows if they'd actually maintain it before it collapses on peoples heads. |
Another unknown origin (I'm thinking Onicha-Nnewi axis for some reason), could be as old as 1870! https://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m8lpjxKUf11qjh37to1_500.jpg "I[g]bo Chief holding a palaver. P A Mc C, 1870-1900." |

Why are there 27 local governments in a state that's the size of one US county anyway? |
I'm sorry, but many Nigerians, especially in Nigeria, act like goats or sheep or some other simple minded animal. |
