As long as they understand Yoruba.

Even with your Aba-made stats and your shameless appraisal of another man's language, Yoruba will continue to spread. It is global!
I'm okay with this sentiment, but there is nothing supporting indigenous languages currently that would warrant the removal of English right now. I mean, there are no indigenous language schools or universities. English is still the medium of education, and without you may be lost.

Same way nigerian mordern songs are 20% yoruba.
Language rep between Igbo and Yoruba in the music industry is probably equal now, just depending on where you stay.

So these your Hausa only speaking Igbo people, do they ever visit their village? Or maybe they have forgotten the way? LOL.

Who watched them? You Igbos prefer English Nollywood. You don't respect your own language. Us Yoruba have our own movie industry with our own language. It might not be as big as ENGLISH SPEAKING Nollywood but it's still our own and we support it. Igbo language speaking movies? Please
English speaking Nollywood is like 20% Igbo. That's why you guys know all these little words. Nollywood is like a Trojan horse for the Igbo language. Ask Kenyans.

I'm not exaggerating one bit. infact I'm taking it easy. Igbos I know act like they don't even know Igbo. Maybe they don't. But they can speak Yoruba/Hausa at the drop of a hat. Maybe you don't want to believe what I'm saying but it's the truth.
This is not the case. This is not true. If you're talking about middle class kids they usually know Igbo or just speak English. You might even be mistaken some other eastern groups for Igbo.

I'm being serious. Ask them to speak Igbo and they either say they can't or struggle. Yet they can speak Yoruba/Hausa fluently and do so at will. Especially in Lagos. Igbos will speak Yoruba like they're descendants of the place.
I think you're exaggerating. No, actually, I know you're exaggerating because the stereotype is even that an avaerage Igbo can't speak Englis without adding Igbo.

People will always speak the indigenous Language of the place they grew up in. Don't you know that the Yorubas and Hausas that grew up in Igbo land speak Igbo Language better than some Igbo people? This is not something to brag with now. Can you guys just stop this!
It's just common sense that an Igbo person will not speak Igbo to someone that doesn't understand it therefore that person will think the Igbo person speaks their own language less. They're actually being courteous.

Yoruba is a language SPOKEN in Ghana....
Oh, come on, Igbo is spoken in more African countries in larger numbers than all Nigerian languages because of trade, yet I cannot honestly say Igbo is a lingua franca of Gabon, even if people greet 'Igwe' in Kenya because of Nollywood.

Yoruba is a lingua franca of Ghana how Igbo is a lingua franca of South Africa.

Beninoise have richer and well documented history than the the Equinox or Equitorian Guineans. The Dahoey Kingdom comes to minf and rsonate all over the world.

What is EG known for?
No one cares fancy history from about 100 years ago. About 100 years ago France was overshadowing Germany. I'm not going to explain to you why Equatorial Guinea is more strategic today than Benin, it's pointless.

MegaMan1987:
Most igbos I know speak Yoruba and Hausa better than Igbo
Because a non-Igbo speaker would know how much an Igbo speaker can speak Igbo because? Clap for yourself.

Yoruba is a lingua franca of more than 3 west african countries.

Yoruba is one of Africa's most widespread languages.

So stop yarning dust.

Your language is recognised in only one obscured country and you expect us to be rolling on the floor.

You need to read up on the spread of yoruba language from Ile Ife, to SW Nigeria, to Benin Republic, Togo, SOuth America, and now Scandinavians where it is being taught in schools..
LOL, in what world is Equatorial Guinea obscured compared to Benin Republic? No offence to Beninians (?).

Swahili is one of the widely spoken languages and one of the most studied languages all over the world, that's one BBCSwahili exists.

BBC Hausa
BBC Swahili
BBC Yoruba
BBCPidgin

Pidgin is also spoken by lots of SWern Africans, no?

Get the drift? grin grin
Swahili is a lingua franca for a diverse people in east Africa, many of which do not speak English much. The same for Hausa. BBC is looking for ways to spread their influence so they'll spend their money on things which can which is why "A TV service will be added to the existing service for Somalia."

Igbo is an actual recognised language of Equatorial Guinea, an economy whose per capita income is almost four times of Nigeria. Even though there's massive inequality, their HDI is several ranks above Nigeria.

Do Swahili speakers in French countries like the Comoros and DRC understand English? What about the millions of people who speak little to no English like even in Nigeria, evidently.

NAaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

They broadcast in language of influence that offers rich history, culture and heritage. That is why you have BBC Swahili, hausa, Yoruba and pidgin.

This is not a station for hate preaching, war mongering and violence instigation.

We can all remember your SOS call to Multichoice, before they pitied you and dashed you a station.
It has nothing to do with history or heritage. The BBC is a form of British soft power which they use to spread their influence in whatever way they can, they literally said it in the article.

"The World Service is one of the UK's most important cultural exports and one of our best sources of global influence. We can now further build on that."

The BBC or the British do not care about your culture or heritage. Lol.
PoliticsRe: BBC To Launch Pidgin And Yoruba Service by ezeagu(m): 10:24pm On Nov 23, 2015
IlekeHD:
So BBC that speaks English suggest that English speakers are illiterate?

That you don't preserve your language or take pride in it kills your language itself. That's the igbo language's undoing.

So what will you say when BBC Igbo comes out in 10 years time?
The reason they use pidgin is to 'expand' to people who don't understand standard English properly or at all, which is why the main articles says:

"The government is to invest £85 million a year in enhancing BBC services around the world including in Russia, North Korea, the Middle East and Africa.
The money is to help "build the global reach of the World Service" to half a billion people and "increase access to news and information".

(...)

"The World Service is one of the UK's most important cultural exports and one of our best sources of global influence. We can now further build on that.""

Igbo women are still in Nigeria nau......
Igbo women are in Nigeria, white people aren't in Nigeria taking your picture for stealing African beef. Thank those Aba women.

You cannot talk of 'sophisticated' weapons while being manhandled by Benin Republic, Boko Haram, and Fulani militia. You need to give examples of why cassava sticks won't work on you this time the whole world has abandoned Nigeria. Remember when I wrote that I will laugh when the zoo burns? Well ask Asa, there's currently fire on the mountain, sea, villages, palm wine joints, boutiques, salon, etc.

When were you fighting to lead Nigeria's independence? I keep hearing about the world powers, but they were trying to be humanized during the war. You wonder why it took one man, awolowo, to strategize and end this war? Should there be a war today, there will be no mercy. Technology has evolved beyond cassava sticks and AK-47.
Why can't you guys tell this to Benin Republic and Boko Haram? And don't forget Fulani marauders. They're currently hammering you from all sides. Thanks.

Igbo women picked up cassava sticks and whooped the British and their minions back to their island. Anioma people whooped the British ass for 20 years before Hausa soldiers were used to subdue them. Nnamdi Azikiwe is the hero of Nigerian Independence.

It's like an achievement isn't an achievement unless you can somehow link it back to Igbo people. What kind of insecurity? Even with a petty BBC service broadcasting in all kinds of war zones? What a shame.

You bolded, but couldn't answer the question? What kind of funny point is that? Was the American Revolution lead by elders? George Washington was in his 40s when the United States gained independence, was he an elder? Was the French Revolution, Tiananmen Square, tearing down of the Berlin Wall, lead by elders? Were Oliver Cromwell, Mohamed Bouazizi elders? Don't try this your foolish Nigerian stalling and deception here please.

Who cares who is writing shorthand while this rat is being taught a bitter lesson?

Biafra remains an Ndigbo escape plan that is dead on arrival and not a struggle (which is why it isn't supported by your elders).

You WILL reap the fruits of your hatred and bigotry.

You were warned.
Who are these elders? Where have you heard of a revolution lead by elders? The truth is Biafra has taken deep roots in the psyche of many, and it will continue to pop up. Your biggest problem right now is your northwest which is literally on fire, but all you can think of is people who are trying to be autonomous.

Sovereignty has nothing to do with hatred, even if it did, it's their land, let them go. I think the warning is better served to you who is being manhandled by an ISIS faction and now Benin Republic.

My gosh!
