Fiery preacher and Senior Pastor of the Latter Rain Gospel Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare yesterday in Abuja, amid tears, chided the Federal Government for doing so little to rescue the 219 Chibok girls abducted two years ago.

Bakare, a former political ally of incumbent president, Muhammadu Buhari spoke yesterday in Abuja at a special sit-out of the #BringBackOurGirls, BBOG.

Pastor Bakare berated past and present administrations in the country for their failure to rescue the girls saying; “The whole nation has failed these children.”

According to him; “Parents, families and friends of our dear daughters, I am here today not just to speak to you, but to speak to the nation and to the world as one of you. I’m here as a father burdened by the captivity of our daughters, and I am here as a friend. I am here to express our frustrations and to speak of our undying hope as we wait expectantly for the return of our dear Chibok girls.

“We are not unmindful that the Nigerian state failed to provide security for our daughters as they gathered to write final examinations despite prior intelligence reports that suggested they were in danger.

“It is most severely injurious to see that the fate of our daughters has been frequently politicized. Rather than rise to the occasion as stakeholders and custodians of the security and welfare of the citizens of this nation, political parties and politicians have paid lip service, using our pain and plight of our daughters to score cheap political points.

‘’We are not convinced that the matter of our daughters has been given the needed thoughtfulness.

“We do not believe that those who are in a position to act have taken sufficient actions towards addressing the issue or even towards claiming our anxiety as waiting parents.”

According to him, the girls would have been rescued if they were children of politicians and renowned pastors.

The sit out marked 712 days since the girls have been kidnapped and part of BBOG Global Week of Action to mark the two years anniversary of the abduction.

He said that those responsible for the rescue of the girls have not taken sufficient actions in the last two years that the girls have been abducted.

“We do not believe those concerned have taken sufficient actions concerning the rescue of these girls”, he said, expressing optimism that the girls would be rescued even as he prayed God to see to that.

“We believe that they are still alive, at least no evidence, satellite evidence that they are in a mass grave. We believe they are alive. It remains a scar on the soul of this nation until these girls are brought back,” he said.n

The Nigeria Labour Congress yesterday faulted the promise of President Muhammadu Buhari to deliver 10,000 megawatts of electricity generation within the next three years .
Factional President of the Congress,Comrade Joe Ajaro,who spoke while fielding questions from journalists at the end of its Central Working Committee meeting in Lagos on Monday,said it would be difficult for the current administration to meet the target.
He said it takes four years to build one power station.
“Electricity generation is not done by command. An average period to complete a power station is four years and am not aware of any power station that will soon be commissioned in the next four years.
“Even when there is 10,000 mw, there must be a transmission network that will convey the 10,000 mw and currently, the transmission network cannot take more than 5,000 mw,’’ he said.
The factional leader said that electricity investors, especially those in Ikeja are not picking loads but rather the investors given power to priority feeders.
He explained that priority feeders are electricity consumers such as industries that could pay millions of naira for their bills and so if the investors have 100 mw, they prefer to give it to priority feeders while ordinary Nigeians stay in darkness.
He advised the government to prioritise the issue of electricity and petroleum product and should see it as a social service to Nigerians for adequate development of the nation.

The Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Trade and Investment, Senator Mohammed Sabo Nakudu has said President Muhammadu Buhari’s frequent trips abroad were part of the price Nigeria had to pay for the impunity and reign of terror witnessed in the country during the regime of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Nakudu, who spoke with newsmen said the 2016 federal budget which focuses on the diversification of the economy would address the problems of unemployment and poverty if faithfully implemented.



“The 2016 budget is a clear intention of the government to do away with oil revenues and embrace agriculture and minining. The 2016 budget is geared towards providing the enabling environment for the economy to grow as can be seen from the allocations to the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing and with economic growth, the issue of poverty and unemployment will be reduced.

“The budget is also farmers friendly because the present government has realized the importance agriculture can play in our economic life. However, it must be emphasized that success in agriculture cannot be achieved without the necessary support from all tiers of government as being done in developed countries.”

Senator Nakudu who enjoined Nigerians to be patient with the administration as steps are being taken to right so many wrongs in the system, said it would take a systematic approach to rejuvenate the economy of the country.

“The administration has prioritized the issues of corruption and insecurity. And we have seen the results of both. Insurgent activities have reduced drastically and people are now being careful and cautious in government offices. The administration is doing the right thing and I believe everybody who mean well for this country would key into that,” Nakudu stated.

The Federal Government in a bid to reduce the amount being spent on overheard expenditure on Wednesday night banned all top officials of government from flying first class while embarking on officials trips.

It said henceforth, all top officials of government such as ministers, permanent secretaries, Chairmen of Federal Government Committees, as well as Chairmen and Chief Executives of Parastatals and Agencies are to travel on business class.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the Media Adviser to the finance minister, Mr Festus Akanbi in Abuja.

In the past, some government officials who should have been on business class usually travelled on first class, while many others travelled business class instead of economy class.

Akanbi in the statement said the new directive has been captured in a circular on review of overhead expenses released by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

He said the development is one of the recommendations made by the Efficiency Unit which was set up by the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, last last year aimed at reducing overheard expenses.

The unit was set up to engender transparency and reduce government’s large expenditure through procurement in the various ministries, departments and agencies of the Federal Government.

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, on Tuesday, flagged off the construction of a N5.7billion worth flyover in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital, promising to deliver the project within 24 months. I shall complete every project that I awarded, because I don’t want to leave any burden behind. The Chairman, Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers, Oba Samuel Adedapo and the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adeyemo, who praised the governor for his zeal to develop Ekiti, appealed to politicians to give peace a chance to forestall unnecessary crisis that could cause distraction. They said Ekiti will continue to appreciate Fayose’s efforts to develop the state in spite of the dwindling federal allocation.

The Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu, said on Tuesday in Abuja that he would not resign as he still had a lot of work to do.
He urged all those planning to protest against him in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital to save their fuel.
The minister said this as part of his closing remarks while briefing the Senate Committee on Petroleum (Upstream) on the lingering scarcity of petroleum products across the country.
NAN reports that different groups including the South South APC, NANS and some Civil Society Organisations have called for the minister’s resignation.
“All those planning to come to Abuja for a protest should save their fuel, I am not going to resign, I have a lot of work to do,” Kachikwu said.
According to him, he did not accept to be minister of petroleum in order to create scarcity.
The minister assured that he would work hard to find lasting solutions to the problems in the industry.
Kachikwu said that he was pained as much as many Nigerians were that the country still suffered petroleum scarcity in spite of being one of the largest producers of crude oil in the world.
