President Muhammadu Buhari has assured his government will deliver on its promised change.
In his Easter Message Saturday, the president thanked Nigerians for being patient with his government in its first 10 turbulent months in office.

The president’s full text:

EASTER MESSAGE TO THE NATION FROM PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI
Fellow Nigerians,

I rejoice with you all, especially our Christian brothers and sisters, as we celebrate Easter.
For Christians all over the world, this celebration is in commemoration of the supreme sacrifice which Jesus Christ made for the salvation of mankind.
The Gospels also tell us that during his earthly ministry, Jesus Christ repeatedly urged his disciples and followers to “love one another as I have loved you”
As we celebrate Easter this year, I sincerely believe that it will serve our dear nation very well if we all imbibe this essential message of Jesus Christ and truly learn to love our countrymen and women as we love ourselves.
Indeed, we will surely make faster progress towards the achievement of the peaceful, united, strong, progressive and prosperous country we all desire if, as a nation, we eschew all divisive, parochial, ethnic and religious sentiments and rivalries, and begin to live more harmoniously with our compatriots, as Jesus Christ and the founders of the world’s other great religions enjoined mankind.
Our unfortunate notoriety in recent years as a country where the blood of men, women and children are wantonly and callously shed in frequent orgies of criminal, political, ethnic and religious violence has become very embarrassing and utterly unacceptable.
My administration is determined to achieve greater peace and security across our nation by ending the avoidable conflicts and crises that hinder our national progress.
I ask for greater support from all Nigerians in this regard. We must put a stop to politically motivated killings. Our communities must be made safe again for all inhabitants to live together in peace and harmony.
Our armed forces, police and other security agencies are being progressively reformed, repositioned and empowered to win the war against terrorism and make mass killings, abductions and other criminal atrocities things of the past in our beloved country.
Let us all also play our parts as patriotic citizens and do all that we can to ensure that we make Nigeria a safer, more peaceful and happier place for its people and others.
Faith, belief and the fulfilment of expectations are also key themes of the Easter celebration. I urge you all therefore, to continue to have faith in the future greatness of our country and to believe that the CHANGE my administration promised will surely come to fruition.
That CHANGE, which we all yearn for, will certainly occur more rapidly if we all place the love of our country above selfish personal and group interests.
The National Assembly has just passed the 2016 budget. I assure all Nigerians that we will do our utmost best to ensure that the budget, the first since my election as President, is efficiently and successfully implemented towards achieving our objective of faster economic growth and development.
I thank the vast majority of Nigerians for their patience and understanding in the first ten months of this administration.
As we go forward, I assure you all that we are working very hard to overcome the challenges we encountered on assumption of office.
We are moving on with an unshaken resolve and determination to deliver on the mandate you gave us on March 28, last year.

I wish you all very happy Easter celebrations.

Muhammadu Buhari

PoliticsRivers Polls Re-run: INEC To Make Return Of Collated Results by Ezenwammadu(op): 8:44pm On Mar 25, 2016
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will conclude and make returns in the constituencies where voting and collation were done in compliance with the Electoral Act in the Rivers re-run elections. This is contained in statement signed by the INEC Director of Publicity and Voter Education, Mr Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi, on Friday in Abuja. It stated that the decision was arrived at after the commission’s Wednesday meeting with the Rivers Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) , Supervisor and Monitors of the March 19 election. It noted that the commission had considered the submissions of the officials and undertook an audit of its personnel deployed as polling officials and for related duties in the elections. It acknowledged that there were some challenges in its operational efficiency, especially as it concerns the production and customisation of result sheets used for the election. “Specifically, there was omission of the original watermark in the result sheets for a few polling units in three federal constituencies. “There was also omission of some delineation details in 47 of over 20,000 booklets produced.” It added that political parties that participated in the election and their agents witnessed the distribution of all the election materials. “The commission wishes to emphatically state that there were no fake result sheets or any fake materials used in the conduct of the election.” It restated the commission’s decision to uphold the declarations and return made in the federal constituencies where elections had been concluded. “Similarly, INEC will conclude and make returns in constituencies where it is satisfied that voting and collation were done in substantial compliance with the Electoral Aact and our guidelines. “Further details as to the constituencies and nature of the exercise will be announced by the REC in the next few days.” It added that INEC would at a date to be decided, conduct fresh elections in all local government areas, constituencies and polling units where March 19 elections were disrupted before voting was concluded. This, according to the statement, will start with the accreditation and voting. “Even so, this will only be after due consideration with stakeholders and subject to the advice of security agencies and guarantees by the political parties, candidates and their supporters.” It assured that all materials used for the conduct of the elections which were not destroyed by hoodlums were safe and were being kept in secure custody. 4

PoliticsObiano Rescues Victims From Motorcycle Accident, Cautions Reckless Driving by Ezenwammadu(op): 3:01pm On Mar 20, 2016
The Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano, has cautioned cyclists against reckless riding so as to minimize the rate of accidents on the ever busy roads in the state.

Governor Obiano made this known when he rescued two victims from a commercial motorcycle accident along Enugwukwu road on his way to a function.

The crash, according to eye witnesses, was as a result of over-speeding in which the motorcycle rider had a head on collision with a car causing the rider and the passenger to sustain multiple fracture and bruises.

The governor who ordered that the ambulance in his convoy be deployed to the rescue operation warned cyclists against riding without crash helmet as serious sanctions will be meted to those who flout the instruction

PoliticsFG To Generate Over N4 Billion Savings On Annual Travel Costs by Ezenwammadu(op): 6:43pm On Mar 15, 2016
The Federal Ministry of Finance has disclosed that discussions with local and international airlines to secure discounts for travel by government officials are yielding positive results.

This was contained in a statement by the Special Adviser on Media to Minister of Finance, Mr Festus Akanbi, on Tuesday.

The statement added that “a review of Government overhead expenditure for the period 2012 to 2014 showed that travel was the largest single expenditure item.

“A cumulative total of N248 billion, equivalent to about 18% of total overhead expenditure, was spent on travel during the period.

“This translates to N83 billion per annum. At a conservative discount of 5% on ticket prices, the estimated savings per annum is approximately N4 billion”, it said.

The Ministry explained that given the large amount spent on travel, and consequently the significant potential for savings, “it is imperative that the Efficiency Unit prioritises travel as a key focus area for cost cutting and generation of savings.

“To this end the Efficiency Unit has engaged in negotiation discussions with local and international airlines for discounts commensurate with the large number of ticket purchases made by Government annually. The savings generated will increase funding available to the government for capital investment”.

The Ministry reiterated its commitment to cut costs and promote fiscal prudence and acknowledged the willingness of Arik Air to provide discounts on tickets purchased by the Government.

In addition to reducing government spend on travel, the Efficiency Unit has made proposals to the appropriate government authorities for the introduction of guidelines that will reduce the need for travel by localising the activities that necessitate travel, where feasible, and encouraging the use of ICT.

Other overhead expenditure items including insurance, advertising and fuel, where the government’s bargaining power can be leveraged are also being reviewed.

It further noted that administrative controls are being strengthened through the issuance of circulars detailing appropriate guidelines and the implementation of measures to enforce compliance.

PoliticsRivers Killings: Buhari Orders Security To Punish Sponsors by Ezenwammadu(op): 5:31pm On Mar 15, 2016
President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday in Malabo condemned recent political violence in Rivers State, saying the killing of people over political differences was “primitive, barbaric and unacceptable”.
“We will deal decisively with all sponsors of violence. I have given the security services clear directives in this regard,” the president said.
There has been an upsurge of violence in the oil-rich state ahead of National and State Assembly rerun elections on Saturday.
The All Progressives Congress, Mr. Buhari’s party, accuses the Peoples Democratic Party-led Rives government of sponsoring and stoking violence against its members.
Some APC members have been killed and beheaded. The government says the violence was a result of a supremacy battle by cultists.
In his first public comments about the growing violence in Rivers State, Mr. Buhari said, “We will show that violence in any form will no longer be tolerated before, during or after elections.”
He spoke at an interactive meeting with Nigerians resident in Equatorial Guinea.

President Buhari said the Independent National Electoral Commission will be encouraged to explore the possibility of allowing Nigerians abroad vote in the 2019 general elections.
Noting that some African countries have started allowing their citizens resident abroad to vote in national elections, the president said he fully empathised with the desire of Nigerians in the diaspora to vote in national elections.
President Buhari pledged that he would therefore do all within his powers to fulfil that desire.
“I want all Nigerians to know that I respect them and their right to choose their leaders,” he said
The president also said that establishing a new national airline was not currently on the Federal Government’s list of priorities.
President Buhari declared that his administration’s main area of focus now was reducing the level of poverty in the country.
The president said that developing the infrastructure needed to boost production in all sectors of the economy and create more jobs for young Nigerians, as well as other actions that will directly improve the living conditions of ordinary Nigerians will continue to be prioritized by his administration.
President Buhari was responding to complaints by members of the Nigerian community about the absence of direct flights between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea.
The president assured them that his administration’s war against corruption will remain “fearless, relentless and merciless”.
“We will be merciless and relentless in pursuing all those who abused public trust. Nigerians will see how some of the elite conspired to run the nation down,” he said.

PoliticsOsinbajo Presents Buhari’s Scorecard, Fulfills Promise by Ezenwammadu(op): 1:09pm On Mar 13, 2016
Prof Yemi Osinbajo, Nigeria's vice president
Prof Yemi Osinbajo, Nigeria’s vice president
Professor Yemi Osinbajo, Nigeria’s Vice President, is not the regular Nigerian politician. Many citizens of the country only take promises from politicians with a pinch of salt because majority of them are synonymous with unfulfilled promises. But Osinbajo, a legal expert and pastor, knows that failed promises, according to his religion, could amount to a sin. Thus, every promise he has made must be kept.
The Vice President was at the Victoria Garden City, his base in Lagos on Saturday, 27 February, 2016. It was not just a visit; it was to keep one such promise – to always report back to the people of the area concerning the activities of the government of President Muhammadu Buhari, for which he is the number two citizen of the country.
During the campaign, he told the residents that he would always come back for dialogue, present the activities of the government and get residents to make suggestions that could help the government succeed. This time, he told them of how the government was turning the around the economy of the country.
Chrisland School, the venue of the meeting, was full to capacity with Osinbajo reminding them that the Buhari administration had kept faith with the cardinal programmes of the administration. He named the programmes as security, governance, corruption and the economy. The people are already familiar with the activities of Boko Haram, but he told them the sect has been decimated by the country’s military might. With their strength weakened, Osibanjo said the terrorists have now resorted to carrying out attacks on soft targets using children, especially girls, as suicide bombers in some parts of the North-east of the country.
Now, what is more of concern to the government, the Vice President said, was the orphans and widows, which is the current consequence of the atrocities carried out by the sect. Thousands of Nigerians have been killed by the terrorists with many children orphaned and many others widowed. Farmers were seriously affected. Osinbajo disclosed that the Federal Government was working towards resettling the internally displaced persons in their homes.
Besides insurgency, Osinbajo noted that there were concerns in the Niger-Delta due to militant activities. Pipelines have been blown out and there are feuds between farmers and herdsmen. He noted that the government was waging a strong war on corruption in both the public service and the private sector. He told those at the meeting that the government was making efforts to revive the economy which the government met with sharp drop in revenue in May 2015. The foreign exchange reserve was depleted by the previous administration from about $40 billion to about $27.5 billion and because of this, most states could no longer pay full salaries to workers because they depend entirely on the revenue from the federation account. This was the reason for the bail out the Federal Government granted the states recently.
The Professor of Law said government had solid plans for diversification of the economy through a revolution in agriculture and solid minerals. This would also shore up the revenue of the country and create jobs. He said that in agriculture, emphasis would be on improving the entire value chain and turn the nation into a net exporter of rice. The Vice President said that government was intensifying effort to refine petroleum products locally adding that by 2018 the nation would achieve the optimum in refined petroleum products.
Aside from this, the administration will encourage private refineries to meet the local needs for petroleum products, according to Osinbajo, who further said a lot of progress had been made on rail transportation in different parts of the country with the Chinese firm handling the projects. The government is further looking at putting all roads linking major cities in good shape.
Then it was time for questions and answers and Osinbajo restated the position of the Federal Government not to devalue the naira. He also said that the call for the repeal of the Land Use Act would not be a solution for youths going into agriculture. He revealed that the Federal Government was designing a lot of materials for teachers education to improve standards adding that Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics would be given priority. “Our priority is how to give relevant education for the 21st century,’” he said.
Accordingly, he said that the administration would engage 500,000 graduate teachers for the rural areas of the country and that the Federal Government was proposing to extend the National Health Insurance Scheme to accommodate every Nigerian. He said the country had a complete policy on the protection of copyright and intellectual property which would be made to work.
In an address, Architect Olusegun Ladega, chairman of the VGC Forum, thanked the Vice President for being an active member of the VGC community. He requested Osinbajo to intervene in the flooding of the estate caused by the non-provision of ancillary drainage on the Lekki-Epe Expressway by the Lagos state government. Apart from this, he asked the Vice President to look into the possibility of giving development associations a voice, through law.
Also, Dr. Tochi Okwor, a resident, expressed concerns about the high rate of communicable diseases such as TB and sexually transmitted diseases like HIV and AIDS. She said this could reach unacceptable proportion if nothing was done. She then advised the Federal Government to remove the National Centres for Disease Control from the Health Ministry and make them independent organisations to enable them to play their roles effectively.
Joseph Sanusi, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, suggested that the government should be serious with its policy on Public Private Partnership and put it in place in the area of road maintenance. This, according to him, would allow for the tolling of major roads to raise money, for not only the maintenance of existing roads, but also for building new ones. Sanusi also opined that the naira is already devalued. He asked the Federal Government to take a good look at the issue.
In all the townhall meeting was, for most of the participants, a welcome opportunity for the people to remain engaged with the Buhari administration. At least Pastor Ade Asekum, one of the organisers of the meeting, put it clearly: “it was a very good meeting indeed.”

PoliticsI Never Said Nigeria’s Economy Is Beyond Buhari’s Control – Lai Mohammed by Ezenwammadu(op):
Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the minister of information and culture says his view on a radio station in Abuja about President Muhammadu Buhari’s handling of the Nigerian economy has been twisted and distorted.

He is at a loss as to why his views were distorted and the motive of the twisters, according to a rebuttal issued today by his special adviser, Segun Adeyemi.

"On Saturday morning, I appeared on a Radio show here in Abuja at which I spoke extensively on the issues affecting our country, especially the economy.
To my surprise, my views were twisted and I was reported to have said that the economy of our country is beyond the control of the President.
This is a gross misrepresentation of what I said. I could not have said our economy is out of the control of our President or the administration he heads. As a matter of fact, this Administration has decided to turn the economic disaster‎ that we inherited to a blessing by diversifying our economy.
I don’t know the reason behind the gross distortion of my comments on the radio today, but whatever the motive is, Nigerians should disregard such distortion and continue to support our President and his Administration to take our country out of the woods."

PoliticsKano APC Probes Kwankwaso For Eying Buhari’s Seat by Ezenwammadu(op): 8:46pm On Mar 10, 2016
Kano state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has instituted a committee to investigate alleged misconduct of former Governor of the state, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and take appropriate action.

The State Chairman of the party, Alhaji Haruna Umar Doguwa, said: “The state executive committee and elders jointly condemned the character and texture of Kwankwaso’s condolence visit to Kano and its portent objective as a launch pad of his presidential ambition which was wholly unfounded”.

He added: “We wish to state categorically that there is no presidential vacancy in the first place. Our loyalty and commitment is to our able president Muhammadu Buhari and his policies and programmes”.

At a joint press briefing on Thursday with the acting Chairman of the elders committee of the party , Alhaji Audu Kirare, Doguwa dissociated the party from ‘s action.

According to him, the act of thuggery and brazen show of daggers, swords and other forms of weapons by sponsored hoodlums during Kwankwaso’s condolence visit was totally unwholesome, abhorrent and condemnable by the teeming loyal party members.

“The visit and all ugly traits exhibited are available in the social media domain being circulated for all to verify the nasty utterances that proofed the clear case of the party indiscipline that trailed the Kwankwaso condolence visit,” he said.

He pointed out that “Our party would not leave any stone unturned in ensuring discipline, orderliness and loyalty as prescribed by the constitution of the party”.
