Right now, the SS sees the North as the SOLE enemy. Not the Igbo who they see as allies. Especially, because we helped get President Jonathan elected, because we put our full support behind him. I have yet to hear any SS person use angry words describing the Ndigbo. They see we are no threat to their sovereignty. The SS/SE seems to be a united political front.

Do not talk about something you know nothing about. Frankly, the ENTIRE SOUTH is angry with the North, because you all keep on killing our brothers and sisters for no reason.

Actually I thought of this too. It would be a good idea NOT JUST FOR THE EAST but the west too.

If you think Enugu was not totally planned, watch an aerial view of Ibadan or Ogbomoso. Miles of red rusting roofs and roads vanishing in cul de sacs and ditches (also functioning as roads).

my issues with the idea is that it still contributes to deforestation in a way. Besides any new developments should aim at being near car-free if possible. that would really increase the quality of living.

Siting it near a big city is sensible but another thing might also be to site the kind of establishments that draw people in the town e.g universities(aside from federal ministries, the universities are arguably the most effective way to get people from all walks of life in one place. thats where we meet. NYSC is just a passing out parade) and manufacturing firms.

Thats the best way to develop the nigerian hinterland I think other than forcibly rebuilding cities by siezing large tracts of built up land, destroying the ugly little bungalows and actually changing the landscape from the ground-up. Unfortunately/Fortunately we are a democracy and that will not happen any time soon.
That is why we need 'smart development' in the South. I enjoy the leafy and green scenery of the South-East. However, we still need development in the region. But I do not want to see our pristine enviroment destroyed anymore. We already have an erosion problem in Abia and Ebonyi state. Enugu should be expanded. Umuahia should be expanded. Owerri needs to be more developed. Nnewi needs a master plan. There is so much that needs to be done in Igboland.

And I agree with you about the bolded. Amaechi and Fashola do not have any problems destroying such bungalows. We need more governors like that. It is time we make our cities world class, by any means necessary.

Anyway, not to derail the thread with talk about state creation, this idea is aimed at doing something to forestall mass Igbo migration to hostile parts of Nigeria.

It will also solve other problems like job creation for our graduating youths. All these must happen outside the control of the federal government of Nigeria, else they would kill it like they killed Tinapa.

All it takes is leadership, and I pray that such will emerge after the elections.
I agree with you. And thank you for ignoring the people who are trying to derail this thread. I will continue to check on this thread periodically.

I have to agree.

He doesnt have the Yoruba swag to wear an Agbada. His head is too big and round for the cap, his body is too somehow. . . .he should continue wearing his cloth, but he should exchange his leprechaun hat for the red cap.
This is when he is at his best.

PoliticsRe: SE Governors Should Map Out And Plan New Towns Now by EzeUche3(m): 7:52am On Apr 22, 2011
Igbos need to move to Ebonyi state. That state is the least populated state in the South-East. Plus, it has been neglected in terms of education and business. Igbos should invest in that state. Abia needs to be developed as well. And Imo still looks like a jungle to me, no offense.

However, I support this message though. Igbos need to start looking home instead of going to the North, where there lives are not worth anything to the marauding barbarians.

PoliticsThe Murder Of Obinna Okpokiri by EzeUche3(op): 2:25am On Apr 22, 2011
The Murder of Obinna Okpokiri
Patrick Okene

I did not know Obinna directly but we had mutual friends here in London. Until recently Obinna was here in the UK, at his family expense, to pick up a post graduate qualification. Obi, as I will call him for the rest of this write up, like every young man had dreams and hopes and one of such was to go back and complete the mandatory NYSC. As a result he packed his bags, paid his way back to Nigeria to serve his fatherland in Bauchi where he was posted to do his National Youth Service.

As you might have guessed by now Obi is one of the Youth Corpers, reported glibly by the media, killed in Bauchi in the last few days. I don’t know if it is because it has happened so many times or what, but the media in Nigeria have become very blasé about such killings and no longer view such as worthy of further coverage. Obi was a person, he had a life, he had a family that loved and sacrificed for him. Obi as you can see from his picture was a good looking young man full of life. According to friends, Obi had run to the corpers lodge to seek refuge and was worried enough to contemplate running to the barracks. But before he or any of the other corpers in the lodge could actualize this; death arrived in the form of a CPC murder squad.

The terror Obi and the rest must have felt can only be best imagined. They were forced out and beaten up and not quite done, the baying crowd of CPC fanatics slaughtered them and set their bodies alight. It is not the kind of death you will wish on your enemy. Let no one try and palm this off on the usual suspects; the Almajiris. Yes there must have been street urchins amongst the killer squad but these were CPC and Buhari loyalists who were out to sort out “the opponents” of their leader. It did not matter to them that these young people were on a National service, as far as they were concerned, if they were not one of them, then they must be the enemy.

There are parallels between the killing of Obi et al and what happened in Kenya at the tail end of 2007 when Kenyans went to the polls in a bitterly fought election. The incumbent Mwai Kibaki’s reelection was disputed by the main opposition leader Raila Odinga. In no time Kalenjin militias in the Rift Valley fanned out in a murderous search of Kibaki’s supporters and kinsmen. They burnt down their houses, looted and killed Kikuyus who were seen as Kibaki’s supporters. Kibaki’s Kikuyus soon retaliated and at the end of the orgy of violence, over 1,100 Kenyans had been killed.

Just like we have seen in Nigeria before, the Kenyan government sacrificed justice at the altar of political expediency. The Kenyan Government made feeble attempts bring to trail the perpetuators without much success and the International Criminal Court (ICC) at The Hague was forced to step in. Charges have now been filed against 6 politicians, ex head of Police, a radio DJ and Government ministers for inciting the violence

The killing of Obi in Bauchi won’t be the first time people have run amok in the North. Far more people have been killed in Plateau state alone than in Kenya. People are killed at the drop of a hat in the North and Middle Belt and the Government appears helpless. We must now call on the ICC to intervene and try and break this cycle of the mindless slaughter of the innocent people in the North. The facts are all there, just as in Kenya; people were incited and primed to wreak maximum havoc in the event of results not favoring them. Even after the elections we had the likes of Alhaji Buba Galadima of the CPC still going on BBC Hausa service to spew hate. I have previously written about the climate of hate that surrounded CPC rallies prior to the elections and frankly it is no surprise that violence broke out. What is surprising is that yet again, the security forces were caught flat footed. How could they not have known that CPC supporters were going to embark on an orgy of violence?

It is doubtful if President Jonathan has the political spine to bring the murders to book. I suspect the killing of Obi and that of many others in this latest orgy of violence will be swept under the carpet by the Government for the sake of political expediency or “national unity”. We need to tell the government that there is no more room under the carpet. The blood of Obi (and others) is calling for justice. It would be most disappointing if appeasement rather that justice is pursued by the government, killers must be brought to book and not rewarded. If the Government feels this is beyond them, they should then allow for the ICC to step in.

I wonder as well.  Instead of this Igbo vs. Yoruba nonsense that Ileke-Idi and Justcash are participating in, they should be asking where the money source come from as well.

How can he afford such a venture? I did not hear that he was using angel investors.

A million people (unconfirmed) would come out because of the inability and incompetence of Nigerian leaders (of which the current president is one) in dealing with carnage on the streets. There were several incidents in Jos last year and none was dealt with decisively. The buck stops with the C-in-C. What kind of message does that send to would be rioters?
I am sorry but I am getting tired of this excuse. Did they come out when Yar'Adua was put in power? We did not hear a word from the North, even though that election was clearly rigged. The blame stops at Buhari.

The relationship between the Yorubas and Igbos is really a love-hate relationship. But on the whole, both still rather live with each other than any other major ethnic group (its just that they'll never admit it).

I grew up in the east and in all my life there, I've never heard of Igbo/Yoruba conflicts either in the east or the west, truth be told. Whatever anyone reads here on the contrary, isn't painting what really happens in real life. I grew up having yoruba schoolmates and friends and it wasn't something awkward.

The problem are the Northerners especially the Hausa/Fulani/Kanuri. Their medieval mindset coupled with a false interpretation of their religion, is the major problem here.
That is true. I continue to have Yoruba friends. And I never had a problem with them and they never had problem with me. Sometimes we make stereotypical jokes, but they are simply harmless fun.

You can never joke around with a Northerner.

Hmm.

truth be told, there is no Southern Nigeria. A northern NIgeria kills together, but Southern Nigeria continue to fight amongst themselves. You know what I want to see in a Southern Nigeria? Working together to develop a "Southern" Nigeria despite ethnicity.

SE is more worried about SE'ners  in the North, SW is more worried about SW'ners in the North. . . .  see how Nigeria is separated? Tell me, what's stopping the SW/SE/SS/MB leaders from working together to stop the North? You think if there was a South Nigeria, the killing would have extended this far?
The fight is TRIVIAL. We do not kill each other.

As if anybody is arguing against this.

Would the SW want to be helped by the North? Who said we can't do it alone? In all honesty, nobody would want stop the SW to stay, so all we our leaders needa do is put their foot down! Although other regions seems to see the SW as a place to be, they'd still want their freedom from the North.

Se;lfishness is causing the North to want this union. Nobody else want to stay in this union; oil is running out.
I support a Southern union. I see good qualities in the SW. People think the Igbo are very different from the Yoruba and vice versa, but that is not true. There are some commonalities amongst the two groups as well as other Southern groups.

We value our lives and stress education. The North is the region that continues to HOLD US BACK!  angry
