Guy, I am not a fan of semantics. sad What exactly do you mean by 'that kind of "world class" hospital?' Is there a particular kind of world-class hospital, or does the word 'world-class,' have a different meaning? Nobody is talking about the size of the hospital, as I have never seen a world-class hospital located in a room-and-parlour structure, or within a bungalow. Different specialties exist in a world-class hospital, and the problem with this hospital is just the state govt's ineptitude. The hospital can work, if all those concerned decide to make it work! Simple. angry

Proper management and trained medical personnel can be obtained to run the hospital, if only govt decides to do things right. undecided It took 8 years to build that hospital, it was not done overnight, so why didn't they make adequate provision for the equipment and personnel during that time? The problem with the hospital can easily be fixed, if the state govt decides to tackle it squarely. undecided You do not need rocket scientists to restore that hospital to full functional status.

OK. your point which is not different from mine has been noted.

Besides there is a bright pink "f" by my moniker so lose calling me guy. Goodnite

I beg to disagree with the portion highlighted in bold type. sad We definitely need a world-class hospital in Nigeria. undecided Do you know how many patients have to go abroad annually to seek expert medical care, simply because we don't have adequate facilities locally to treat their cases? Don't you see the numerous appeals from sick patients for financial help to go to India, Israel and other countries, for surgery and other forms of medical treatment? The basic problem with this Ibom Specialist Hospital has been the nonchalance of govt and the management. If this hospital were sited in a place like Lagos, it probably would have been managed better.

There are so many doctors that find it difficult to get a place, to carry out their internships. sad And we have many Nigerian medical consultants abroad, whose expertise is badly needed here, locally. This hospital could have been a great example of Public-Private-Partnership (PPP), if only it was well-managed. Private hospitals like Lagoon, St. Nicholas and Reddington in Lagos, that do not have half of the facilities in Ibom Specialist Hospital, are thriving and doing well. So why can't this hospital be made to work? shocked

Hello

I dint say we do not need a world-class hospital in Nigeria. I said we do not need that kind of " world class" hospital. Note the quotes.

We cannot have a world class hospital overnight and you would agree with me that world class doesn't necessarily mean size or design of the building or dumping expensive modern equipment in it without proper management or training that is why I mentioned research and suitability.

My emphasis was on its workability and not just an avenue for wastage.

That's what happens when you put the cart before the horse

Instead of for government to invest in the capacity of their people intellectually in education, they are sharing money and building super structures to be managed by foreigners

This is a state where basic government functions are run by consultants from Lagos because the state Civil Servants are not considered competent enough.

Education is in shambles as one teacher teaches over 80 students in public schools and in dilapidated buildings.

The Toothpick factory newly commissioned is almost shutting down due to lack of capacity

Le Meridian Hotel foreign managers left 3 months ago citing debts as government officials use complimentary cards to check in, accruing over N650m debt for government

Erm

I do not think education is the answer especially theoretical as you seem to opine unless you are emphasizing skills acquisition.

However, I agree with the fact that we don't need super structures as this so called " world class " hospital. The problem with these so called projects is that they lack proper research as to their suitability to the Nigerian environment and also double as money siphoning avenues.

Its been such a hectic day.

I woke up as early as 5am to travel down to my farm at Ogun state. I got there around 9am.

Yesterday I paid some guys money to help me plant water melon only for me to get there today and they gave me stories. I later got another person to help do the job. Thank God it has finally been planted. Pls pray for me...that God should please give me a bountiful harvest.

I checked my cassava and maize farm. They are doing alright. It needs weeding. I gave a guy part payment to help do that. After which I'll need to apply fertilizer.

My tomatoes farm. Ewwk. This got me pissed off. I paid a guy money to help me weed. Only for me to get there and see that he hasn't touched anywhere. Yet this guy is insisting that he has weeded. Haba. When it's not that weeds grow overnight?. I shouted and shouted.(Now I have headache) Maybe because i'm a lady he felt he could intimidate me. I was able to collect part of the money sha.

I just left the farm
All I can say is, What a day!!!!

More grease to your elbow ( I heard that term is outdated but u knw wat I mean) smiley

I just love to hear about agriculture and I admire people like you who involve themselves in it
