Religion / Re: Is Faith Credulity? by ezme(m): 12:27pm On Jan 01, 2013 |
Uyi Iredia: Indeed faith is credulity. They both imply belief in something. However reason can't work without faith. Thing is reason seeks a basis for a belief while faith is the belief itself. I see reason and faith as being on the same pedestal. One certainly needs a basis for a belief and properly define (reason) that belief (faith). The kind of faith most Christians talk about seems to be the foolhardy one. You hear them talking about a helper that would "sow a seed of a car or a house into their lives" as they would like to put it.Logically this does not follow and usually never really happens. Some even believe they would stumble into a missing bag of money somewhere. An SSCE holder believing he would be made Manager SPDC west. Is this the kind of faith that should be encouraged in the Church? |
Culture / Re: Adultery By The Wife; Death Of The Kids, husband And The Tribes Of Delta State. by ezme(m): 11:36am On Jan 01, 2013 |
It think it was that way believing the fear of the woman losing her kids and husband would push her to confess and believe me to the best of my knowledge it is very real. This is one of the reasons there is a general belief that Isoko and Urhobo women don't have philandering ways. |
Religion / Is Faith Credulity? by ezme(m): 8:11pm On Dec 31, 2012 |
I was having a discussion with a friend and at a point I stated that I place reason above faith when I approach life and it intrigues and he seemed disappointed and said as a Christian I'm not supposed to say that as it rubbishes my Christian belief system. So I quoted this scripture; Proverbs 3: 21-24 21: My son preserve sound judgement and discernment, do not let them out of your sight; 22: they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck. 23: Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble; 24: when you lie down, you will not be afraid;when you lie down your sleep will be sweet. I also stated that these were written by Solomon(the wisest man ever recorded in the bible), but this made no difference to him. So I'm just wondering, can we categorize faith? Is faith credulity? |
Religion / Re: Do Nigerian Christians Lack The Word Power To Argue Logically? by ezme(m): 7:42pm On Dec 31, 2012 |
Goshen360: Our faith is not meant for argument but for transformation. Most of us Christians can argue logically but we don't engage in such because it doesn't win souls to Christ and we are admonished to refrain from vain arguments. Sometimes you get caught between people teaching twisted doctrines and you are moved to state that this isn't correct using the scripture as the standard. I have been accused of being confrontational in Church. Maybe arguing was a wrong choice of word, but I believe from discussions we always get to see things in perspective. |

Culture / Adultery By The Wife; Death Of The Kids, husband And The Tribes Of Delta State. by ezme(m): 9:27am On Dec 30, 2012 |
This particular tradition is common with Isoko and Urhobo people of Delta state. Where the adulterous ways of a wife results in the kids of the marriage falling ill, sometimes resulting to death and this trend continues until the Husband dies too should the wife refuse to confess and perform the necessary rites to appease the gods/ancestors. This is taken seriously as you would even hear staunch Christians say "they no dey serve God reach there, you must go village go run the sacrifices". From my investigation I realized that this is a sexist tradition as adultery by the husband has no consequences. I also got to know this is based on a particular wine drinking rite which is performed during the traditional marriage rite where these things are said. I would love for anyone has witnessed this or have been told about this based on oral tradition to shed more light on it. 2 Likes |

earthgreeners: TRV_IJN: The account is ur mumsie's yeah? Then let her sponsor you in her personal capacity.you may include her biz docs as proof of her occupation but if the biz isn't sponsoring you, then the biz's official bank account statement has no biz in ur application. Work on showing ties to her and other parts to bolster your application. I believe you are good to go with ur mumsie's savings account. adim02: @ezme since the account is ur mums than you dont have problem.Am a worker and i have current and savings account. My current is my salaries account,so what i do some time clear d whole cash in current to savings 4 at least 2weeks then back again to current which i will use come fall 2013. what your mum need is transfer from current to savings.Cash flows matters alot. adim02: @Ezme is in the check list which say 6 months bank statement cash flow. The thing is Mumsie has always been running her business with her savings account and now she just got it registered and with the impending cashless policy that would be hitting all other parts of Nigeria,I was suggesting she get another current account for the business but the snag there now is that it won't be 6months before the end of April when I would love to turn in my application. I would appreciate any suggestions from the House on this. |

okpara ugo: sir, i'm a Christian but I don't practice it like most of you do. The fact someone thinks a picture is satanic and demonic makes the person a Christian, such doctrines abound in most modern day churches (especially here in Nigeria). Demonic cartoons, demonic hair extensions, demonic music videos, demonic hairstyles, etc When you express fear after seeing a picture, the right adjective to use is "scary" not "satanic" or "demonic" 1 Like |

Can't we just appreciate art without being religious about it. Religion is a dogma it prevents you from thinking outside the box. Some Christians are worse than zombies.... everything scares you. Don't spend your life chasing shadows |

I think we should discuss this from information available on the uploaded denial document. First ticked reason; Sub-bullet 4 " Family ties in Canada as well as in home country" Does this mean having strong family ties in Canada and no strong tie in Nigeria may work against an applicant? I'm beginning to reason in that line as the larger reason is "you not returning after study" and "Family ties" is one of the factors for making such conclusions. |

You can't go camping, swimming or doing any other fun outdoor activity. The most dangerous specie of most animals are found there. |

Misleading story, Agbor is not even near Warri. It would cost you over #1,000 to make to Agbor from Warri. Stop giving a place a bad name just to get traffic. The fact you know most people would want to read when they see Warri doesn't mean the people living there are savages. |

earthgreeners: I understand you. i just feel I would benefit more from a structured course-program, than doing a private inquiry in just a small scope under supervision of a very large field. Its like doing a thesis on " Effects of process PAHs absorption by activated carbon" and someone else getting a course-based Msc waste water engineering. Who do you think would be a better fit in say a water board? |

mercylicious: For research based master, u might be lucky if there is a black professor in dt dept. They usually help out and with funding too if available. The program chair actually did his undergraduate study in same university (same department) as me. So my plan is to get a reference letters from the oldest professors, who probably taught him or were his seniors or course mates, and I hope that does the magic. If possible put a call through to him apart from the formal reference letter. PS: I need your email address 1 Like |
