cris83: So which one favors best in terms of job applications in canada?...research-based or course-based programs...contributions please

thing is when you see the program description, course-based is usually for people who intend on following a career path in industry. Some even state clearly that their targets are practicing engineers. That's exactly why I'm worried about URegina

well it all depends on ur future plans.....Everybody get him own...
Except for the duration, I think research based courses are better.

truth is research based is favorable for those who want careers in academia or research & development. Teaching is part of my plan but not my immediate plan, teaching would be after like 20years in industry

earthgreeners: Anyone applying for a Masters program @ the following universities for Fall 2013, please let's share ideas on admission and study permit application:

University of Manitoba
University of Saskatchewan
Memorial University of Newflnd

Thanks...

I had saskatchewan in mind but their chemical engineering is biochemical inclined and that is not my primary interest. But I'm yet to make a final decision

Because dem no give u no mean say dem no go give anoda person...

Actually I had course-based co-op in mind. All my applications will be for course-based, I really don't want to spend 18months trying to contribute to knowledge. I want to get more knowledge so i can get high cadre jobs.

Regina is quite competitive but I still got admisn with less qualificatn than ur in engineering too. I didn't submit any English language test.
I'll advise u to apply for taught masters cos u might never get research masters coming from Nigeria.
We may have to get Nigerian student of good academic standing to speak to a lecturer on ur behalf.
Pm for contact, specify its u on the pm.

Thanks so much for your gesture.I think there is is snag to when sending pm to someone for the first time. What I sent is the general "I would like to send you a message" via the Nairaland team so please check your spam and take note of my moniker.I'm expecting to hear from you.

Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 3 by ezme(m): 9:58pm On Nov 12, 2012
nivax21: @ezme.Mr siga is 100% right.ualberta and ucalgary engineering are highly competitive because of the oil boom over there.however there are other schools in Canada in that offer chemical engineering though very few like uni of British columbia, mcgill university, university of Toronto, university of waterloo, queens university, uni of western Ontario, mcmaster university, uni of ottawa, ryerson university, royal military college of Canada, dalhousie university...I've forgotten the remaining 2

I would love to relate with you personally, you seem to have all the information I may need and probably in same field. Please I won't mind having your email.

When you are dealing with uncertainties, you need to seek various opinion if u truly need critical solutions to issues..

Siga is doing a great Job here, but I think we shld try as much not to make it a one man show....

@earthgreeners, You could respond to my question above. I see ur moniker on other immigration fora too so I guess we all go around to seek information. With Siga now, it seems like a one man show because this is actually the first time someone is responding to an admission based inquiry. I remember someone telling me that I should look for my "kparapko" that people are in different stages as if it not the school route most people travelling here are using. People are talking to him presently cos he seems to have answers
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 3 by ezme(m): 8:18pm On Nov 12, 2012
As for that Ottawwa, those guys give admissions truely but my friends offer letter said he should be ready to spend $37000 per annum i think, and they don't send fee schedule. where do they think we would find that kinda money to show CDHC VO when applying for study permit. And funny thing is the money is actually about $16000 on their site for tuition
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 3 by ezme(m): 8:14pm On Nov 12, 2012
Siga: @ezme...i can tell u those schools are very very competitive....this is due to the Oil boom in those areas.....guys have flooded those schools and they only have few quotas for International students....I will advise you move away from those areas....u can secure admission into any other school....once u are done...u can relocate ...since you are looking into a Graduate study...its ok....remember...u all are gonna sit for same professional engr exam...so, u are cool....have u tried U of Manitoba...close to Alberta....or u try U of Waterloo, Queens, Mcmaster, York, U of T,Brock, Ryerson....there are tonnes...and these are very good schools....check their sites...see if they offer wat u want and go from there....and bro...some schools are better than others in some fields....keep in mind this ranking might be the overall grading....

The problems is these options you are giving me don't actually have process control as their research area of specializations. Most of them are polymer and biochemical engineering inclined and truly my passion lies in process control. As for MUN, I really don't want to leave mainstream process control/process systems engineering. The websites of some of the schools are not even encouraging at all. York seems to be way up the list. I would come back again but lemme look at the waterloo again. Thanks for your response
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 3 by ezme(m): 7:39pm On Nov 12, 2012
Mr Siga, I can see the change you have brought into the room, before now if someone is asking questions around securing admission. It very rare you get any response. Most peeps are interested in medical calls/TRV news. I'm happy with the new trend, so I would love to throw my question at you or anyone who can help with this. I'm interested in pursuing graduate study in process control. I find the program at University of Alberta and University of Regina a perfect fit for what i want but when I saw the profiles of some Pakistani and Indian peeps in another forum that got rejected, especially by Regina,"Fear catch me bros". My question is what are the chances of getting into these schools with a Nigerian first degree? I can only document a 79% CGPA (chemical engineering), though I intend to write GRE to help give a better reflection of my academic strength.

For a better picture
IELTS: 7.5
B.Eng: 79% (2009/2010)
WASSCE: Aggregate 9
Not presently working as an engineer.

Please suggest any good schools because if going by their websites you would stop looking at the www.4icu.org/ca ranking when you get past the 30th ranking school
Religion / Re: What Do Christians Think About Greeting One Another With "Holy Kiss(es)" by ezme(m): 10:26pm On Nov 08, 2012
kissing as a form of greeting is not an African culture....So we can let that slide...There are many cultural practices that happened in the bible that we are actually taking literally. If Jesus was an Isoko man, he would have broken kolanut with visitors and the Kolanut would have been supported with money and the money shared by everyone present. Believe me of this happened in the bible, we would not have only the tithing doctrine to complain about.

Sunchris: Muskeeto, may yuh never have peace in ur life. And may yuh perish in the bossom of hell like yur boko brothers. U are a confirmed candidate of HELL. May yuh die soon and join ur DECIEVER (that prophet that was poisoned to death) in the hell. Idiot!

How different are you from the muslims who went out protesting because of a movie that mocks Mohammed?
I share your christian faith, but most times I wonder on what foundation the faith of most christians is built.
You now think it your duty to fight for the Lord?
Don't reduce the God you worship to a mere idol.

As for blaming the devil, I'm past that stage. The devil can't be responsible for all the wrong choices I have made in my life and he cannot be responsible for that of the other Nigerians that placed our country in it's present state.Unless you mean to say the devil is omnipresent and omniscient. And in that case he is as powerful as God

Religion / Re: Your Thoughts About What Happens On Emmanuel Tv by ezme(m): 7:04pm On Nov 06, 2012
The exorcism bit of it leaves me with questions though. I like horror movies and so most times I end up watching exorcism movies. From my experience with these movies, the exorcism is never completed in a day and most times you see possessed individuals inflicting bodily harms on themselves speaking in foreign languages they have no history of being exposed to. The exorcisms are usually performed by Roman catholic priests with a Physician being present. Some cases possessed people eat insects, vomit roaches and they are outrightly very violent. At SCOAN, the demons are usually given a few minutes of fame where they respond to questions like they are on a red carpet.Voila, after 2mins and a bit of rolling on the floor, the evil spirit is out. No broken ribs,no bodily wounds and not even a scratch. Maybe violent demons are not in Africa. Just my thought though....

Education / Re: Letter To All Nigerian V.cs by ezme(m): 10:52am On Oct 31, 2012
shegzy: LETTER TO ALL NIGERIAN V.Cs

Sir, one of the problems in many, if not all Nigerian universities is that some of the Vice- Chancellors (V.Cs) are too far away from their students despite the fact that they are on campus with their students! They often erroneously believe that getting close to their students is condescending. Whereas, getting close to the students will create mutual understanding as communication gap will be bridged.

To underscore my points, how many V.Cs operate an open-door policy in which their students have direct access to them? How many V.Cs give out their mobile line to student for direct communication? In this information and communication age, how many of our powerful V.Cs are on the Facebook or any other social network medium with which their students can pass information across? If President Goodluck Jonathan can find Facebook useful in sharing information with Nigerians, why are our V.Cs still hiding in the comfort of their offices?

Apart from matriculation and graduation ceremonies, many Nigerian V.Cs are not visible, hence, many students don’t know their V.Cs throughout the four years spent on campus. This is not good. V.Cs should manage our campuses by opening up to the students, wandering about the campuses to know what is going on; if possible, sit for a few minutes in a lecture room to listen to the lecturers.

I am propelled to challenge all our V.Cs this way as a result of my recent encounter with the University of Ibadan (UI) VC, Prof. Isaac Folorunso Adewole. I had heard so much good reports about Prof. Adewole since he was appointed, but l never met him or saw him physically because of protocols built around him.

However, at a christening ceremony of a new born baby of Mr & Mrs Sunday Saanu, the VC’s media man, which I attended, I was lucky to have met my VC at the occasion. I was shocked when l saw the UI VC along with his wife, attending the ceremony. Mr Saanu introduced us to the VC as students at Ibadan. I was dazed with the humility displayed by our highly respected VC. He shook hands with all of us and exchanged banters. Prof. Adewole was lively, friendly and amiable; he even took photograph with us. I was more than happy and excited. When he was leaving the ceremony, he gave us “transport fare” as an expression of his love for us. It was as I was dreaming.

Since then, my impression about him changed. I now know that if our VCs can be closer to their students, there will be less tension on our campuses. I have been carrying the picture I took with my VC around and my friends are envious just as my fiancée now respects me more because she sees me as VC’s friend.

Prof. Adewole is even on Facebook. I have added him as my friend. This is how our VCs should open up. We want to interact with them in order to have solution to our problems. I therefore say kudos to Prof. Adewole for setting a good example for others to follow. He should keep up the good work he has started at Ibadan. Indeed, if Prof. Adewole continues this way, he will see that nobody will demonstrate against him throughout his tenure. Our political leaders should learn lesson from this. When we would have voted for them, they have this habit of hiding away from us until election time. Our leaders should be visible and available.

Nice write up, I have to commend you on this. I understand the feeling when the authorities seems so faraway and out of touch with the reality facing students. I understand your genuine intention to bring this anomaly to the fore and also share your experience with your Vice Chancellor with us.I got a little bit worried when I saw you leave all your contact details. I was politically active during my days in school and when I see write-ups like this, it smells so much of dual intent. It seems more like a political move to me on your part. I won't be surprised if you are running for office presently or have future plans to do so within your school. Student activists usually have personal agenda... Once again, nice piece.

I had to post this again here, after putting it in the literature session just for those who can relate to it to appreciate it. A friend thinks its a direct diss to dragnet but it just an innocent poem.

Graduation is greeted with a gleeful face.
To conquer the world, my young heart yearns.
The Clarion call is next in line,
A worthy service to the Motherland.
An engineering role is all I desire.
Job boards subscriptions paying-off,
Applications going out in their hundreds

Waking up to my beeping phone,
Comes the acquaintance with a friendly foe.
Dragnet it is, trying to get to me.
You come with words.
Yes, you bear an invitation,
My preferred test location is all you require.

The aftermath is me switching cities.
It would cost a fortune to make it to CHAMS city.
In our thousands we invade the city.
In fifty-two minutes our fate to be decided.
With ticking time, I click away.
My hopes of landing this job, lingering on

Waiting on my phone to beep again.
It’s been four weeks and still no word,
Anxiety building with each passing day
Job boards abound with rumours of second stage
Stalking my email, my hourly routine.
“excuse me boss, you have a message”
Dragnet it is, another recruitment.

Joagbaje:

God only accept prefect things. NO spottetd, wrinkle, blemish, blind either for tithes of offerings .

Leviticus 22:22
Blind, or broken, or maimed, or having a wen, or scurvy, or scabbed, ye shall not offer these unto the Lord, nor make an offering by fire of them upon the altar unto the Lord.

Deuteronomy 15:21
And if there be any blemish therein, as if it be lame, or blind, or have any ill blemish, thou shalt not sacrifice it unto the Lord thy God.

People only gave what is needed in the temple as tithes And offerings. Anything outside that is given in cash .

Heb 7 only stated the end of levitical order. We are back to the Melchizedek order . One major thing Melchizedek was known for was tithe.

brother Jo, these verses are talking about offerings not tithe, why are you going in circles?

You cannot force the one-off action of Abraham on everyone,

I didn't know what to make of this story until people living around the refinery started saying the fire has been out for 2months. I was opportune to have an internship placement at that refinery back in 2010, and one thing I know for sure is the extended period of downtimes we had over there. We even sometimes flare gases just to pretend to the outside world that the refinery is working. So if Ekpan residents are saying the fire has been out for 2months then OP you are a liar and have just been busted. My worry now is the motive behind your lying.

BLUE VALENTINE - Made me realize that love could be overrated.Love alone would not make a relationship work, level of education of parties in a relationship affects the union. It takes a real man to accept to be the father of a child you know isn't yours right from the first trimester.
