Familiar storyline..... Young people who probably never traveled by air lost their lives on unsafe roads, not their corpses are being flown by air back to their families, it's not the first time.
Lost half the capacity of the proposed plant for it to be bankable, and the reduction in the budget to 'bankable' is only a fifth of the initial budget? Na wa o
donlet: As a fresh graduate in Nigeria after the NYSC, is relocating to canada through study Visa to do Msc and possbily getting a canadian PR after graduation better than trying to get a job here in Nigeria.
We all know it quite difficult to get job here but the cost of education in canada too is a factor one has to consider.
What is your take on this?
Let's share opinions.
Is a job in Nigeria available and guaranteed? Is the funds or avenue for studying in Canada available? Those are the things to consider.
Finding gainful employment in Nigeria is like looking for needle in a haystack even for the most skilled graduates. And in my experience, if you want to leave the country it's always best to leave as early as possible, so that you'd spend your youthful years pursuing a future you can picture. Once you get older, it'll become more difficult to get a study visa for example.
So if the employment you talk about is not yet available and guaranteed, please by all means go for the abroad study, unless the means to do so isn't available too.
Please I need your advice on this, which do you prefer and reasons if possible. A job in a multinational that pays 300k and trainings in Europe and the other opportunity is a Masters degree program in France.
Please which of the two would you stick with?
If the job is available and guaranteed, and it's something you'd like to do, I'll advice you take it, already there are prospects for you to grow and improve, via the trainings you mentioned. It usually takes more than a master's degree to begin a life in these European nations, that's to say, while the master's is good exposure, etc, on its own, it won't take you anywhere, you'll still have to fall back on your natural abilities, skills and connections at the end.
The fact that an enemy, rival, a business or crime partner gone sour can just routinely use the Nigeria security agencies against you, albeit dastardly and unlawfully is very scary! Why would a security agency commit arson and murder for whatever reason?

I looked up the cost of enrollment for HSE 1-3. It's almost around 400K. Considering the economy, is it wise to spend that kind of money on training?
How lucrative is having a HSE certificate in the job market?
Which jobs are readily available for HSE holders?
Unless you are already employed, there is very little case for spending that money on HSE certification, worse still if it's not like NEBOSH IGC for example, then it's a local scam.
You just think what exactly you are going to do with that certification, if there's no definite end goal in sight, don't waste the money.
Modified: I did not even see the HSE 1-3 before now, please don't do it...don't waste your money, it's scam, if a company hires you, it takes only weeks to bring you up to speed on HSE.
What is the father's role in all of this? There's not been any mention of complicity on his part, but they've been dragging the old man around with the offender, the Uduak guy is an adult, why is the father being dragged along, or am I missing something?
Has anyone worked towards or tried conceiving a particular gender and it worked?? Kindly drop tips, advise e.t.c.

There's this Chinese sex determination chart I came across once, have you seen it before? It predicts the sex of the baby using the age of the mother and the month of the year during which the pregnancy will be conceived.
Dunno the science behind it or how accurate it can be, but when I came across it I did try to fit the birth dates of myself and my siblings, and it all coincided, a friend also confirmed same with his children.
Also fertility doctors and other medical experts in the area could be of help, as they are experts in the field, have you tried talking to them?
Interesting, read every single line. May God bless him and his path...this is raw ingenuity and determination.
For the many people up here proudly typing that they did not read, why do you have to comment on a post you haven't read? How does that even make any sense, what are young people going to change from this rotten attitude?

I totally understand, you're doing great...you have apptitude, there's no need for hopelessness at all, keep waking up everyday and trying, seek out relevant people and opportunities, your glory is near!
mannatech: As the heading states, I'm 33yrs old and I have never had any job experience before.
I studied tourism and leisure management only at the national diploma level. I finished with upper credit.
I'm not really conversant with the job market and considering applying for jobs.
I know my age might possibly be an hindrance to my chance of being able to land one.
I was hoping peeps familiar with, those who are or were in my shoes can offer advice in what ever form.
Thanks
There's hope for everyone, plenty hope!
It's a bit disconcerting that tourism doesn't thrive in Nigeria, but leisure does...at least you must have heard about Obi cubana and his chief priests this past week ....just kidding.
But really, depending on your natural abilities, you could do well in events management, catering, hotel management, rentals, barman, or abroad tourism agent, all which are related to your course of study and booming in Nigeria regardless of economy. It might take a little working out out of the box, so don't expect suit and briefcase interview, you should go out there, talk to people, meet people who are into what you'd like to do....and if you're not interested in the leisure industry, you can apply same formula in that which you're interested.
If I may ask, what have you been into before now, before or after your ND since you haven't worked before?
Paulson2020: Good day buddies, please help a brother with an advice., What lucrative business can one start with 700,000k mid twenties and not yet married, was advised on opening a betting shop and how lucrative is the business currently pls help a brother... Any suggestions or ideas are highly welcome.. thanks.
It's good you're looking for a business to start by yourself, and not where to invest money, so good...that means you're on the right track. So first of all disregard any suggestions of investment or get rich quick percentages on this thread.
As for businesses you can start, you have to ask yourself what businesses you can run and what is needed in your locality? Not an easy task but that's the way to go, Mr A might suggest what works for him in Kano and you try to do same thing in Lagos and fail woefully. Furthermore, it might help people who have something to chip in if they know a bit of your background and where you live.
That being said, there are 3 things you can't go wrong with, agriculture, production and trade (depends on the product). Those are high level, but think around them, it's hard to pinpoint one thing to suggest to you straight up.
Ekomatrix1: I have this girl I have been dating for 4 years and we are planning to get married to this year. But I notice she does not like to sacrifice. I mean, she is kind of selfish.
she is studying and i send her money aside the one the parent gives to her but if i request for a video call, she would ask me to send her data, if she comes to my house and i don't give her TP not minding that i gave her money some weeks/days back she would be angry.
Yesterday i booked a ticket for her to come to lagos from anambra, after booking she asked me to also send her some feeding money for the journey. I refused and asked her to take from the 20k I sent to her last 2 weeks, she then said " WHO PAYS FOR TP AND NOT GIVES FEEDING MONEY?
Long story short, I had to cancel the ticket. I have constantly complained about her selfishness but no improvement .
what should i do?
You do know that there would surely be those times in life where you could be at a low and need your partner to hold things up for the family, bills, etc....sometimes for extended periods? Now ask yourself, can a woman like this support you at such times, or is she more likely to gossip away and drive you into depression? In the end it's your choice, but marriage isn't something you enter with a scarcity or 'one-ity' mentality, plus and minus well.
mugnmuffin: First, I want to apologize for the statement insinuating that Catholic Christians are less Christian compared to Pentecostals. That was not meant to be a generalization. The reason why faith is my principal concern is because, as a Christian, there are certain ethics and codes of conduct a person adopts and practices that guide their actions and decisions. It is the crux of the matter for me.
Many of the comments are asking for elaboration especially with regards to other aspects besides spirituality. Some of the red flags in terms of his attitude and behavior that give me cause for concern are how he relates with ladies; I found that he cheated on me a couple of times. Some of my friends who are married assure me that it is nothing to worry about because “men will always be men”. However, I feel like overlooking that means ‘settling’. Also, he tends to act like we’re competing for career success. I’m a banker and he works with a company and is well paid. From comments he makes when I make attempts to pursue growth, like take courses or attend conferences to network, his response shows that he thinks it’s a waste of time and resources. I don’t always expect him to give me financial support, even if encouragement. But he feels I should be content with my current status. It scares me that he may staunch my progress after marriage. I’m no saint myself, but I know marriage is a lifetime affair and just because I didn’t look before I leaped into the relationship doesn’t mean I shouldn’t at this point try to make amends.
So how is it that you didn't mention any of these in the original post? You have said the truth on the original post, are you now bringing these points because of criticisms from people, which you asked for? You should really move on, ideological differences are irreconcilable in marriage, don't make both yourselves miserable.
abnot: Cool. Work on your profile within the law and try not solicit assistance if you can. I mentioned to my high school friend that I applied for a PR and if it comes through I’ll land for three weeks to do some networking and return to naija to build on the network. Somehow he felt I was planning to stay in his house for that three weeks and didn’t respond to my message. He shared that thought with someone. And I told that person to remind him that in Johannesburg I lived at a service apartment (sandton Skye ) when his sister visited . In New York I lived at a concierge apartment in Manhattan . In Scotland as a student I lived at a 2-bed apartment when he came to spend a week with me .How does he now think I won’t be able to accommodate myself for three weeks in CA. It’s just funny how some of our people reason once they land in CA but that’s the reality so prepare yourself. One of the recent migrants who left Nigeria in 2020 told me he won’t be able to attend his sister’s wedding in October due to the security situation in Nigeria. I told him if raising ticket money was a problem he should say so and not make those in Nigeria feel like they are in war front lol (was joking with him but ). Learn the french and do your thing. Don’t rely on men
mugnmuffin: Dear Nairalanders, I have an issue that has been on my mind for weeks now. My fiancé and I have been dating for over three years. I love him and he loves me too. We are physically attracted to each other. We’re both catholic but since I graduated, during my service year I gave my life to Christ, got saved and left the Catholic Church. So I’ve been a Pentecostal Christian since then. He on the other hand is still catholic. I subtly try to nudge him to consider getting saved, i.e acknowledging Christ as lord and savior and becoming born again but he is content with his laidback Christian life.
Earlier this year, he asked to meet my parents and I let him. My parents like him especially because my younger sis is married and they have been waiting for me too. They’re glad I’ve someone. However, after the introduction,I regret it. I’m now certain that he’s not the one. I think about my spiritual life and how lukewarm he is about the things of God, I think about kids and how we’ll raise the, with such differing views about God and I’m discouraged. I feel like I’m settling because he checks all the boxes on the checklist of physical attributes. Another mistake I made is, I didn’t pray about this decision and that worries me because anything that involves him,I just act with pausing to ask God, but I always ask God about other aspects of my life. So it’s like my associating with him is a minus for my spiritual life and that’s a huge cause for concern.
At this point, I want to tell my parents I am not convinced it’s him but I’m afraid of the disappointment this will cause. *sigh* I’ll appreciate your thoughts, comments, criticisms...
Away from all the distractions on this thread, you did not mention any red flags at all....your having cold feet is not a red flag, at least not from the man. You knew he was a Catholic all this while and only hoping to convert him, even if you succeed in luring him to your new found faith, there are chances his head and heart won't be there, and he might regret it when the euphoria of the wedding dies down, and you both won't be happy in the marriage.
The general saying goes that you don't marry someone hoping to change them, if you cannot live with him now, as he is...please disembark.
My advice is that if you're not tolerant, please leave the man alone before you make both your lives miserable. Have you had this faith discussion with him?...or you're still silently hoping to "nudge" him over?
Blixon: I honestly thought I would find more mature comments in the family section.
Wonder what kind of mature comments you're looking to see, well event planners here have told you how it goes down, but just like a few people here, I'm taken aback by how someone can come up with this your thought process, your idea of making memories or having a memorable day is hiring strangers who you don't know from Adam and who you'd probably never see again to flood your wedding and create an illusion? How will that make you feel good at the end of the day? I had the impression that people do things like this because they have people to impress. I do hope you have the financial muscle to achieve your dreams.
As my two cents, anything is possible...you can even hook up with pretty Mike to supply you preggo ladies or breastfeeding mums, all na glam.
Rissamenti: We are alive. Stop relying on what you read in the media that overblows everything negative.
How many of us have been hurt, or personally know anyone that's been hurt in any violence?
Less than 1%, I'm sure.
Make we hear word abeg.
I detest media sensationalism too, but having the mindset that because you're alive and safe from the deaths and violence means it's all well is a wrong mindset.
You'd be amazed how 1% suddenly becomes hugely significant if you are directly affected.
But then I agree that not every space online must be used to express one's dissatisfaction, howbeit justified.
These are 2 of the top midrange smartphones to buy in 2021 under $250. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro is priced at N124,000 or $248 while the TECNO Camon 17 Pro is priced at N125,000 or $250. The Redmi Note 10 Pro comes with a 6.67-inch AMOLED Display that has a 120Hz refresh rate, while the TECNO Camon 17 Pro comes with a 6.8 inch IPS LCD panel with a 90Hz refresh rate. For the Build quality, the Redmi Note 10 Pro is better compared to the TECNO Camon 17 Pro has it has Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection at the front and rear while the TECNO Camon 17 Pro has a plastic rear and no protection at the front. For the processor, the TECNO Camon 17 Pro comes with the Mediatek Helio G95 Processor, while the Redmi Note 10 Pro comes with the Snapdragon 732G processor. For the cameras, the front and rear cameras on the Redmi Note 10 take better pictures than the TECNO Camon 17 Pro. The battery life on both the TECNO Camon 17 Pro and RN10P is impressive.
Redmi Note 10 Pro definitely offers more value for your money than the TECNO Camon 17 Pro in nearly every aspect, which begs the question, "Why should anyone pick up the Camon 17 Pro?" Be sure to get to our conclusion before you decide which to buy between them.
see screenshots from video below.
The Redmi Note 10S, which has the same mediatek chipset sells for wayy cheaper than $250, I have a feeling that these people take advantage of the class thinking and strange consumer behaviour of Nigerians to make money from products they couldn't sell anywhere else. I can see people in the comments wailing that they'll buy the tecno, whether they truly mean it or they're part of the paid influencers running amok here remains to be known.
Now, this is because someone took it upon herself to raise awareness about him, who will shout for the many other innocents who have been nabbed and labelled "gun men" without any weapons? Who?
I am inspired to write this because of a recent video I stumbled upon on youtube, which reaffirmed a viewpoint I've always had.
Nowadays, manufacturers of smartphone seem to be doing everything possible to take away the ability to repair their gadgets, should any minor damage happen to it from the users, this is aimed at forcing such consumers to buy the next new thing.
Two most popular ways they do this is by making the components integrated or expensive, or restricting the parts supply or expertise for repairs. In both cases the result is an impossible/difficult to repair device or a very costly to repair device (so much that sometimes, you're just better off buying a new one - which is their aim anyway).
This is firstly unhealthy to the pockets of low income earners, and unnecessary spending to even people that can afford new devices all the time. Looking at the bigger picture, this practice also leads to generation of large amounts of e-waste, resources used to make these products are quite finite, I won't delve into the children who are dying in congo...so that big brands can make hyped components. But of course the makers don't care...they're here for profit, no matter the cost to the planet.
So when next that new latest device is launched, and all the hype, unboxing and review around it starts raving and you start feeling pressure to buy...take a minute to research into the reparability of the device, simply put if this my phone falls and the screen breaks, will I be able to change it? How easy or costly will it be?
That will help a lot in buying sustainable brands and products, Nigeria is only a section of the market and nairaland is even a more micro section of this market, but factoring reparability into buying decisions and spreading the word could go a long way to forcing this manufacturers to stop seeing users the way drug dealers see addicts...
Edit...
Since someone mentioned it, there are ways to find out if a smartphone is easily reparable before you buy.
The supplier's repair service, does the maker of this device have committed parts and repairs service from the outset?
History of that particular brand, the older generations and versions of phones from this maker, how durable were they? If they got spoiled, were they reparable? And at what cost? etc.
My own method is teardown videos (this might be boring for someone who isn't tech savvy), but teardown videos on YouTube shows you bit by bit of how the components of every phone that comes out are assembled, this way it's easy to know how difficult it will be to uncouple a device or switch a part.
Another way could be to ask questions, ask a good phone repair guy, very good tech and repair people stay ahead of development, so they usually know what a new phone is made of, before they start breaking and needing repairs.
In any case, the idea is to buy things that are durable, and that can repair is they sustain a minor damage, better for your budget, better for our world.
Aycol1: Earlier this month, this company announced to its investor that it will be re-strategizing its operations and won't be paying ROI for now. Unfortunately the company keep beating around the bush and not transparent to its investor.. Can we say they are also MBA junior because investors tends not to know the faith of their funds.
By the way the name sounds, do you still need anyone to tell you it's scam? Any investment that doesn't produce value from which any ROI will be paid, is a scam, no matter how well packaged.
thesolutions: Xiaomi can never produce a top notch quality pictures. You are only deceived by your screen resolution. The pictures I took with my old Gionee M5 still beat the ones I took with the Redmi 9.
That could be true, but I wouldn't know, what I want in a phone is hitchless performance, durability and serviceability.
Everyone should remain in their weight class and provide satisfaction to their customer segments, I did enjoy my Tecno M3 that year too before the battery started to swell like fufu.
thesolutions: even if they could. not that they can't. At least, you are being rational. so, does understanding their market translate to poor quality phones or cost effective and pocket friendly phones? Because it seems like samsung has understood the market too with the A series that houses mefiatek chips, LCD Display, 720 x 1560 Pixels, 264 PPI and Octa-core Processor (2.3 GHz, 1.8 GHz)
But then somehow Xiaomi gives far top notch quality, for similar prices. When I say they understand their market, I wasn't necessarily talking about cheap prices o. They understand the psychology of their intended consumers, let them try to sell their phones elsewhere first.
thesolutions: Samsung phones with g70 processor are not 400k. If they are this superb with g70 processor and LCD screens, they will even be more superb when they use Samsung display and high end processor like they did.
You can argue from today till tomorrow, what I can tell you though is that the makers of Infinix, tecno, understand their target market...I give them that. They won't make those class of products, even if they could.
