yemmit90: I saw your Pen in one of your threads. You can easily break down/reduce the high of the fence at the back. Have you ever called the engineer to know if it's possible? .. I would have done that, but the fence demarcate our compound from another's compound, and they won't like it. |

sukkot: you didnt need that lengthy piece to explain one verse. when people start writing lenghty stuff for one or two verses its because they dont know it and are throwing in lots of fluff to bulk up the piece. all you needed was 5 lines tops .. If you say that, what will you say about new testament writers that write chapters upon chapters just to prove that Jesus is the saviour? What do you say about preachers that can focus on one verse for chapters? Like someone have already said, some christians forget their brain at home every sunday. They hate reading. They don't want to stress themselves reading long bible topics. .. If you have problem with what is written, pinpoint it and let the op explain more. Make a point. |

yemmit90: See man, I gave you an honest and practical analysis of what we normally spent on raising each broiler. I could also see that you're not a business minded person. How do you know it's on paper when you've not done it before? Tell me a business that is not involve risk? Besides, what do you mean by 'going through all that stress because of 100 gain'? I pity you! Guys are making millions through the so called #120 profit/bird, and you're here claiming big boy. Tell me the names of Hatcheries that currently sell 250/bird?
I do other businesses, and I can tell you there's no businesses on earth that's devoid of risks. And let me make a clear correction on the misconception about Broiler bird. Broilers are as strong as any other bird if you take proper care of them. Good hygiene and a well ventilation PEN is the main secret of this business. .. Good hygiene and a well ventilated pen - I love that. Miss them in the name of reducing building cost and labor and you'll pay for it with mortalities. |

Lesgupnigeria: If You can get the video evidence, then half of the problem is solved or you can get them on tape how they were harassing you for money. At first,it will be challenging and difficult but if you can persevere and overcome the challenges, the farm is going to be a huge success. .. That's the only choice they'll leave me with. They've been doing it for a long time and you don't expect them to obey the law without a fight. |

jasper7: It's not advisable to seek problem with "area boys" especially if you plan to run a profitable business there. Depending on what the money is for shaa. There are factors that shud guide you and things you should know before taking any drastic action. Firstly, as a manager, you must ne familiar with the term or concept of "Nuisance value", most of this area boys have nuisance value. Settle them and they don't only leave you alone but also look after ur investment for You. Refuse to settle and they would bring the thiefs to ur place or even steal it themselves or overlook when the thief comes. But if you are from the area, at least you shouldn't worry about all that. .. If we're talking about small amount of money here, it would be a different thing entirely. But we're talking about not less than N200,000 here. That's what you'll illegally give to some holligans who think they're above the law. How much are my starting the business with? They'll be leaving me with no other choice than that of a tiger that found himself back into a corner. |

Agriculture › Area Boys Harassing Land Owners: Your Experience by FarmTech(mod): 5:52pm On Nov 14, 2014 |
In this thread, I'll like us to share experience and profer solution to this issue of area boys harassment of farmers and land owners. Whenever you want to build any structure they'll appear and start demanding for large amount of money - an amount that is enough to start a farm business. My Experience Before my poultry farm was built, we have to pay this people N300,000 for 3 plots of land. Now assuming we did not have the money, I'll be roaming about towns looking for job. This kept me thinking that some graduates have access to land and money to start up a business, but the fear of these people force them to go for job hunting instead. .. In Anambra state, the past govnor, Peter Obi, passed a law that illegalize the acts of area boys. The law states: " . Any person who collect or demand any fee (not approved by law) from any person developing or improving on existing development on land has a punishment of 5 years jail or N500,000 fine or both" .. "F. Any person who unlawfully destroys, remove, damage any beacon or structure on any land will go to 10 years jail or N1m fine or both" .. My father had another 2 plot of land which I'll like to develop into a rabbit and poultry farm, but I know that if I should step on the land to build anything again, these guys will appear and demand for 200k or more. For me, I'm not paying anything, I'd rather gather evidence of their activities with video cameras and sue them to court. .. That's my own experience and possible solution, now what do you guys think? |

Agriculture › Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by FarmTech(mod): 5:25pm On Nov 14, 2014 |
Trueigbo: they are a year plus 3months .. That's about 15 months old. If they started laying at 5 months, they've been laying for 10 months now. Generally, they normally lay for 52 weeks before they're sold. That's about 12 months and. So you're birds are nearing the end of their laying period. Egg production normally drop during this period. If you're not making enough profit, consider selling them. |
Agriculture › Re: Your Questions And Challenges About Farmlands by FarmTech(mod): 5:00pm On Nov 14, 2014 |
So you guys means that there is no better way of dealing with these bush boys? In Anambra state, Peter Obi passes a law that states that anyonee caught harrassing land developer will pay N500,000 or be jailed for 5 years or both. |

kayelm87: @ Op why don't u start with point of lay instead of breeding them from chick. am also a starter pls how much is the cost for keeping 1000 birds .. Budget roughly N800 per bird, though mine was slightly higher. And pls, make sure their house is well ventilated. The dwarf walls should not be too high, 30cm is ok. Don't build it as an attachment to a fence. I'm just telling u some mistakes that cost me a lot. |

Agriculture › Re: Cockerel Vs. Broiler by FarmTech(mod): 7:12pm On Nov 13, 2014 |
Cockerel takes time to mature (I think up to 6 months). Their feed is also cheaper. Broilers mature faster, about 2-3 months and they eat a lot. Their feed is expensive. Which one to embark on boils down to whether u have the market and startup capital. Starting broiler is more capital intensive. When it comes to mortality, broilers die easily while cockerel are as hardened as indigeneous fowls. |
