STENON:
Goodafternoon. I applied for my younger sister for 6 months visiting visa but she was refused. She is a graduate, worked with a private hospital in Nigeria for 1 year prior to January 2021. She left her job, moved to stay with my Parents as Home Care Assistant because they are old and now wanted to visit for holiday. I and My husband are sponsoring her trip but I was disappointed based on the reason for refusing her visa. Why are they interested in her bank details ??

So sorry about this refusal, the same happened to me when I applied for my sister who was not working and was being sponsored by me. In her case the reason stated was because she didn't provide a bank statement even though I was sponsoring and my dad who was her sponsor wrote a letter showed his statement and mine.

What I have discovered is UKVI are not particularly favorable to single, unemployed persons applying from Nigeria and in your case maybe the annual income was a little bit lower than they expected.

My advise if possible get a stable income to show strong ties and plan a short stay to start with.

Hello everyone,
I have been putting my skilled worker application together and thought to consult the elders before submitting.

My situation.
I have just completed my PGCE and started a job in July. Back home I have my family waiting to join me (My husband and 2 boys). My organisation didn't give me the normal CoS doc, but I got all info needed for application. The school ticked maintenance so I do not need proof of funds.
Docs I uploaded ;
1. Passport data page
2. BRP both sides
3. Marriage cert, Change of name
4. IELTS TRF
5. My sons' birth cert.

I like to know if there is any other doc I have to upload before final submission.

Thanks all.

Not familiar with the recent document list but ensure all the document listed on the generated checklist after visa application is submitted. That's the important bit. If they are coming from naija as well they would need TB test which is not on that list

H2B : Help to buy (for those wondering)...........

If it's possible, tried and tested....... Make we add am for our arsenal......... wink

Personally used H2B and know others who did, it's accessible to everyone on visa with NRPF. Its basically an equity loan where government owns 20% of the home regardless, so not a loss in anyway rather a business to them, ofcourse they make a loss if there is negative Equity on the property.

My Odyssey (My One-Day London trip)

I hope this brief mini-adventure helps and informs someone's future decision or dealings with the NHC London.

There have been lots of stories and opinions about passport renewal in the UK. A few of them were positive while many (if not most) reviews were shocking and sad. So, I was prospectively dreading the process should it be my time to renew.

If I had other viable choices, perhaps, I would have considered them. But going back to Nigeria because of passport renewal was a big NO for me.

I applied for my renewal on the 23rd of December, 2020 via the Innovate1 platform. However, little did I know that it won't be possible to pick an appointment date.

Wetin man pikin go do na...I paid; hoping and believing that I will be scheduled for an appointment really soon.

I was not surprised. My biometrics appointment was sent sooner than I expected...I am sure you are now surprised.

An email for biometrics dropped after 7 months, precisely on the 21st of July (some waited 10 months before getting their appointment). No thanks to the pandemic and backlogs of application.
The biometrics was scheduled for 27th July, between 11am and 1pm. Though, a 2-week grace period was stated in the email, I was not ready to take chances.

Since I live in one of the towns in far Northwest England, I decided to be a bit creative and take a few risks (thanks to my better-half for encouraging me)

I booked a same day return train ticket to London for 27th July.
Left my house at about 5:10am and arrived London Euston at about 10:10am.

It was my second time in London. The first was in 2019.
Booked a taxi straight to NHC... Wished I had trekked though. We were just moving at snail speed (traffic lights at almost every 100m). I can't begin to imagine the stress londoners driving a manual transmission go through in the city.

Got to NHC at about 10:48am. As expected, there were some mild naija drama outside the NHC office but nothing too serious. I was just happy to witness the drama as I missed a lot of it since I arrived the Queens land.

I was ushered into the NHC as soon as the staff confirmed my documents were complete. The crowd I met inside almost discouraged me as I practically wanted to ditch the whole process; obviously thinking when it would be my turn for biometrics.

To be honest, the process was quite fast. I left there at about 12:43pm. New Passport to be posted within the next 2 weeks (fingers crossed).

London Palava

Thinking about what to do with my spare time, it was necessary to activate my sight-seeing genes. I walked around and visited the London Eye. The ice-cream sold by the frozen yoghurt van in that area get as e be sha.

From there, I moved to Thames Clippers smiley, swiped my card and enjoyed about a 45-minute River Thames boat cruise to North Greenwich Peninsula (passing under the London Bridge, Tower bridge, showing us the tower of London, the Shard and other historic places).
Arriving at the peninsula, had to visit the O2, Emirates Air line cable and experienced some 4D Rollercoaster.

Then, I decided to take 2 bus rides (108 and 15) from the peninsula to Charring cross. From there, I moved to Trafalguar Square where I rested for a while. It was there I also saw the National Gallery.

Finally walked back to London Euston station after window shopping. Train left Lodon Euston at 18:23. Arrived my humble abode at about 23:30.

Do I wanna live in London... NO! NO!! NO!!!‍♂️‍♂️‍♂️‍♂️‍♂️‍♂️‍♂️
Let the Londoners continue the lord's work there.

Will I be visiting again.. YES! YES!! YES!!! Probably with the family this time.

Lots and loads of places that could not be visited because of time

Nice and positive story to read..you sef try oo, all that waka in 6hrs..welldone.

Good day, please I have gotten 2 jobs with NHS now after going through numeracy and literacy assessments and MS Teams interviews.
But the bottle neck is now is that they are refusing to grant me COS even after attending their welcome sessions and filling the forms they sent to me.
Please is their other way I can get COS or a visa to work in the UK
.........,....................
Post granted: Clinical Support Worker &, HCA

Did you apply for jobs that stated Tier 2 sponsorship applicants are welcome? If yes, you can point it out to them the job advert encouraged you to apply because of this. Even at that it may not yield anything, but one can only keep trying.

If No, ensure jobs you apply for states Tier 2 applicants are welcome. All the best in your search

Hello everyone,

Please, does anyone know if NMC is actively recruiting midwives the way they are recruiting nurses from overseas.

A lady said she has writing the CBT and is now on the NMC register but when she applied for jobs, recruiters said they are not employing overseas midwives.
I just want to be certain because a family member who is a midwife wants to apply but it is held back b because of what the lady said.

Please anyone with info about this should help me out. Thank you

I believe it is NHS that is recruiting and not NMC directly (I could be be wrong for midwives though). It's a bit tough right now because of Covid and the whole Nigeria restriction with recruiting but I know a couple that has got offers in the past couple of months. Just keep searching on NHS jobs and trac jobs and hopefully interviews will start pouring in.

Good morning Fatima,

Thank you for the information.

I am in the process of applying for a spousal visa. The hOme Office requested for NARIC. Although, I am doing a Masters at the Cass Business school and therefore have IELTS Academic and of course an admission letter, I still want to do this NARIC things so to cover all the tracks. I have my transcript, certificate and can request for the University of Ibadan letter stating I was taught in English, I will like to know the process with NARIC.

Do I send the 3 documents to NARIC as you stated, pay the required funds and wait for their response? Home Office gave me 14days to respond.

Thank you,

Bolaji

Please any one with correct information may also respond.

Yes that's all you need, but I am not certain all will be ready in 14days. I would have advised IELTS UKVI but that can't also come out in 14days. Can you request for an extension or what happens after 14days?

No you can obtain Naric instead. Slightly cheaper but can take longer. All you need is a copy of your transcript, certificate and letter from school stating you were taught in English.

Do you allow pets in your home and also what about cleaning etc. Is the only cost associated with house swaps just insurance or any other hidden cost?

They're much of a muchness - Butlins and Centre Parcs is much more better than both. If forced to choose between both, I'd choose Haven through gritted teeth. The only upside of these places is the built in entertainment and sometimes, they're a bit hit and miss.

Look on Airbnb and Booking.com for a full house and negotiate the rate and create your own entertainment. On BDC, you can sometimes find the contact details of the owner and contact them directly.

We now almost exclusively travel through house swaps - wish I discovered it earlier!

More details please at the bolded. How does it work

True! But like Ralph Lauren mentioned he needs to grab his calculator especially considering family size and needs.

Remote working may be more beneficial to someone who has little kids, especially if they are not of school age. He can easily combine childcare with remote job, even if it pays less on the long run it mag leave him with higher disposable income than the 68k job

so many factors truly but that gap of 15k/23k sha grin grin

Guys reason this for my elder bro which makes sense. He is living in bristol.

The job offers are:

London company - Fully remote 45k
London company - 2 days a week in the office 68k
International company located in wales - everyday in the office, 20 min drive from his home 60k

Which is more value for money after transport etc.

would be inclined to advise the wales job. Asides transportation cost, housing and cost of living in london alone will take a lot of the 68k.
But if he wants London living then Option 2

We have trashed some points here numerous times.......

I have emphasized topics about insurance vs licence validity........

The insurance company simply made his insurance policy, null & void.......

I personally think the horse already bolted....... If he is meant to pay the bill, he should request the invoices of repair..........

I feel would be a difficult battle, but worth a fight...... They would state ignorance is not an excuse ......

Was his neighbour in the car, during the accident? If the neighbour was, a possible whiplash claim might still be added/already added......

NB : A couple of years ago, after a shift at Kent & Sussex hospital, got to my car hopped in, drove down the road, I could hear a flap at the back of my car.......

Unbeknown to me, the lady that parked behind me, rammed my rear mercilessly....... Luckily for me, I saw them walking away from their car (about 4 of them)...... I accosted them, the lady admitted hitting me, we exchanged details (took pictures etc etc).........

Lady got home, explained to her father...... Story changed..... She denied responsibilities....... grin

My insurance company already gave me a courtesy vehicle, so I no send (that's why I pay insurance) (it's their battle)...... tongue

I drove this courtesy vehicle for 11 month's, YES 11 month's........ grin

Bill was over £22,000..... War started, it eventually ended in court.... My vehicle was written off and judgement was got against the other insurance company (they had to pay that bill)....... cheesy

Thankfully, neighbour wasnt in the car. WOW at second bolded statement, 11months driving Lexusgs grin, gbese.

i thought we hammered on the bolded in the past.

sometimes its cheaper to just buy a new car rather than do some repairs. Plus you will be paying for the car repairs, i am sure the neighbour was given a replacement/rental vehicle while his car was in the shop, you will be paying for that too.

And all these shops know how to delay repairs and inflate figuresnespecially when insurance companies is involved.

Sadly the incident happened around that time so, learnt the hard way. I believe thats what has happened as well.

Sis!! What happened? Why did they say you are owing them?

My sister na so we see am o. It happened or happening to my brother.

He moved here with his family late 2019 and as a family of 5 up north, we thought having a car was necessary now (probably wished we waited now grin).

He got his car shortly before the pandemic and got his insurance with go girl with his naija licence. As expected he couldn't renew or attend any exam for his practical exam due to cancellation and no date available and DVLA granted10months extension till October 2021 which he thought it will be sufficient to pass.

During this time, go girl renewed his insurance automatically but unknowingly to us a Provisional Licence supersedes your international licence. Na so he lost control during that yeye february snow to go hit his neighbours car and then insurance got involved and its been one mayhem to another. They cancelled his premium and then after a while demanded the balance of his insurance and now we got bills totalling £9800 that they incurred on fixing the other car.

The annoying thing it was just a minor dent to the fender and the car is a 2011 ford worth £2,900 (according to the insurance coy). So how they spent almost £10k fixing it is beyond me.

Hmmn, imagine been slammed with a £10k debt from your car insurance company early on Monday morning.

Please any recommendation for a good insurance claim expert or lawyer? Person never make the £10k profit since getting here sef.

Advise to new migrants coming to the UK and planning on driving with int'l Licence, please think twice before getting that car oo, do you really need it?

Can you pass your driving test within a year of getting into the country and note that once you obtain a provisional licence it SUPERSEDES your international licence and according to the law, there must be a co-pilot with minimum of 3years validity beside you afterwards.

Any accident or dent that involves the insurance company can result into cancellation of your policy, increase in premium and unexpected debts by the 3rd party involved.

lol….. this a very simple common sense biz for lovers of dogs.

Firstly get a dog friendly apartment then proceed to this website https://www.pets4homes.co.uk/ search for English bull dogs…. Carefully go through the features of the dog…. Only purchase the ones that are KC registered ( not cross breed and certified by the Kennel club). You could get a puppy of this type for £3000 or above…. Insure the dog with a vet which costs £40-£50 monthly and you get their feed which is £50, meaning basically in a month you spend £100 on each dog if you have more than one. The Dog will be fertile to give in at 18months and it delivers it puppies within 60 days, kindly mate with the same KC registered male British bull dog, depending on how lucky you are your dog could produce 6 to 12 puppies like my friend’s dog gave birth to 12, each of this puppy have been sold for £3000…. Kindly multiply 3000*12= £36000 on just one dog oooo let say he has three of same dogs u see he is in big money. Note he only spent £3000 for the 18 months including all miscellaneous with his precious time in nurturing the dog.

If you have a male British bull Dog KC registered bull dog just put them up for mating. You get paid £500 for this.

Wow the profit margin on dogs, na wa oo. Lots of opportunities sha, d fear of dogs won't even allow me consider it

Greetings my elders,

Quite an educative thread. Just finished reading from 500 - 672 and i say thank you to all you guys for your immense contributions to helping people integrate into the UK culture.

I am due to come to the University of Sheffield this Sept for a postgraduate course in Data Science while my DW will be my dependent - no kids yet. I need your help as to the best way for us to settle down in the UK.

I have looked on UK job sites and I see that there is a lot of jobs around Data Science and i believe it is on the shortage occupation list - 2135. I already have more than 5 years IT work experience and a recent 2 years work experience as a Systems Analyst here in Nigeria. As regards getting a job i know i would need to temp work as an assistant in a supermarket or amazon so as not to breach my term time work limit.

As for DW, she studied Microbiology in Nigeria and has worked in an hospital for 3 years as a health worker although she was basically in the children and midwifery department - NPower . Based on fatima04 input, I was hoping she could get a temp job as a care assistant for about 3/4 months before transitioning into the Health Care Assistant roles via NHS. Or can she get a job directly as HCA with her current study and work experience?

Our eventual target is for her to become a Nurse. Will she be able to transition into a Nurse even if she has to go via this route:

A level 4 Cert in Nursing
https://www.reed.co.uk/courses/nursing/299893#/

& top up Nursing course from University of Derby
https://www.derby.ac.uk/online/nursing-courses/nursing-studies-top-up-bsc-hons-online/

or just she continue to take other courses in HCA until she gets to Management Consultant level 7 as stated by fatima04?

One more thing, can a couple be allowed to stay in a studio or we can go for a one bedroom?

If she gets a job outside of Sheffield, will she be able to rent an accommodation alone so as to boost her credit score in terms of payment of bills, council tax etc?

Thank you for your input

If the bolded is her experience and target then she can pursue Msc Nursing with NMC registration. She can practise as a nurse once she is done.

It all depends on the LL or letting agent, and sometimes the price of both is within the same range. Running 2 homes will be quite tough with bills etc, she maybe better off commuting by train.
